President’s Report
The Workers Club Group would first like to thank Pat Collins on his achievement of 12 years’ service with us, thank you for all you have done and thank you for your commitment to our vision.
Hello Members, When you read this report elections for the Board of Directors has been completed and AGM has been held. I am pleased to advise that the Board was re-elected with Murray Searle being elected as a new board member as Pat Collins did not stand for re-election this year. The members voted for the Executive at the AGM and the positions remained unchanged being President - Kay Kelly, Snr Vice - Jack Miller, Vice - Terry O’Loughlin and Treasurer - Jim Buckley. I would like to thank the members who took the time to vote and show their support. The Board is very passionate about the Club and are proud to represent you and do what they think is right for members and community. Pat received his Life Membership last year and has devoted 12 years into the Club. Pat is an honourable, trustworthy gentleman and I personally thank him for his help and participation over the years. Pat was presented with Clubs NSW Fellowship Award at the AGM. Exciting times are ahead for our Clubs as we have been working on diversifying into new projects which in the future make our Club able to proceed without the heavy reliance on gaming. The Government has been challenging us to work towards this and yes gaming is still the bloodline of Clubs but your Board and Management are working hard together to achieve results in other areas to bring revenue into our Clubs. I was extremely proud alongside my Board colleagues and Group CEO to officially open part of the Sports Precinct on Saturday 2nd March. We were privileged to have Member for Greenway Michelle Rowland and Member for Prospect Hugh McDermott as well as Blacktown City Mayor and State Member for Blacktown Stephen Bali join us. I know how busy they are and we are grateful they could take the time out of their busy schedule to share this occasion with us. The area we opened is home to Workers Rugby League and Cricket with the Workers Soccer Fields and Grandstand in close proximity. The area also consists of a children’s playground, landscaping and a walking pathway which will be an additional asset when we build our over 55’s Resort. The opening of the new Workers Soccer fields and grandstand on Wednesday 27th March was another proud and exciting occasion where the Board cut the ribbon with State Member for Prospect Hugh McDermott and Club CEO.

Thank you Matt and your committee for organising this event and making it a success. I know Soccer will make good use of this area. The Sports Complex has taken many years of planning with meetings and consultations with Council and Sporting Bodies concerned. It has finally reached fruition and I would like to thank the Board of Directors, Management and staff for making this happen. A special thanks to Garry Allen and his staff who have worked tirelessly on this project and continue to do so. We also have 3 bowling green, baseball field, netball court, tennis courts and 33 Sporting Clubs under the Workers flag. I thank all the committee members who keep these Sporting Clubs running. The opening of this complex will go down in Club history and the history of Blacktown City and of which as members you can also be proud of. I have been told It is the largest privately own Sporting Complex in Australia. We will also be preparing a time capsule which will contain memorabilia to mark this historical event and show Clubs progress. Hugh McDermott placed the original jacket owned by Albert Lobley who was first Secretary of Blacktown District and Workers Soccer Club into the capsule. It will be opened in 50 years time. I won’t be here to see this but hopefully our offsprings and future generations will have some interest and will become our members. Thank you to Staff and Management for your commitment. Our members are of top importance to us and like to see a smiling face and feel welcome. You do this on a daily basis so they are happy to return.
We are proud to see Pat acknowledged and awarded the Honorary Fellowship award from our Industry Body – ClubsNSW. Pat has now been inducted into the Honorary Fellowship Club. The Club recognises Directors who have served for 10 or more consecutive years on the Board and who have voluntarily stepped down. This prestigious award has never been presented to a Director of the Workers Club Group and is rarely presented across the entire industry so the recognition of Pat and the years of hard work and dedication he has provided Blacktown Workers is to be truly admired. Pat Collins was appointed as a Board Member on 13 November 2007 but has been a member of the Blacktown Workers Club since 10 July 1984. Pat has brought his experience to assist in astute decisions on business development and growth that complement the social and needs of the local community. ANZAC day Workers Sports Anzac Day - Australia’s National Day of Remembrance. Originally this day was dedicated to the soldiers who fought for us, the Australian & New Zealand Army Corps in World War I but now we remember all Australian & New Zealand Soldiers who have fallen in military operations over the years, it’s imperative that as Australians we use this opportunity to pay tribute to the sacrifice made by these soldiers. Unlike any other public holiday, we say thanks to those who have risked their lives for the sake of our freedom. The holiday falls on the 25th of April each year, which marks the day that the corps landed in Gallipoli in the First World War in 1915. Traditionally Anzac Day is known for moving dawn services, marches and it is also a time to walk alongside ex-servicemen and women and thank them for their service. This year we set up a special memorial for our local heroes who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. This is only a select few local heroes, but we would like to take this opportunity to not only thank but to remember all the men and women who sacrificed their lives for us all around the world. The day was a great success, with Two Up being played, great food deals and happy faces throughout the venue. Anzac Day celebrations will continue to be a great annual event for the Sports Club.

CAMPBELL ST REFURBISHMENT Last month we kicked off the modern refurbishment of the Main Club including the exterior and Ground floor. Following the survey that went to more than 20,000 Workers Club members, we have taken your suggestions and begun work to improve your club. INTERIOR CHANGES
THE NEW EXTERIOR LOOK
The “face” of our building is the first thing that we will be updating with a fresh new look and appearance to let people clearly understand that things are changing at the Worker’s.

Improving the Customer experience is the basis behind the plans for inside Blacktown Workers with work already begun. Staged to happen over the next year to minimise the disturbance to our members, the new interior look will add more in choices of food, beverage and promotions but also give a much nicer, “casual-lux” feeling where our members will feel spoilt but also comfortable. The new child play area will mean parents & grandparents can enjoy a coffee while watching the children play, the new lounge will mean mates can enjoy a beer and chat and the new Sports Bar will see state of the art TAB facilities for members to enjoy. Add in those extras such as a much more light and airy entry, a central point for member enquiries and tickets and even a new bar so our members get served faster…. And we belive its going to start to deliver all that you said you wanted.

About Our Community
THE DIFFERENCE WE MAKE Earlier this year on March 2nd we launched the new sporting complex at H.E Laybutt Reserve and the $30 Million investment will certainly have a great positive impact on the lives of local children playing Rugby League, Soccer and Cricket. Whilst the fields are highly in demand from all levels of sport, we were sure to make sure that the first ever game played on the fields came from our Under 6 teams so the memories made today can live for years to come. PROVIDING SPORTING FACILITIES LIKE NO OTHER No other business in Australia provides the level of commitment to sporting and sub clubs as the Workers. We own and operate Australia’s largest privately owned sporting complex at Workers Sports Club and an entire floor of the Club in Campbell Street as well as Shooting ranges and lake at Hubertus Country Club. Our fully owned sporting facilities include: • Rugby League Fields • Netball Courts • Indoor Bowls • Baseball Fields • Lawn Bowling Greens • Rifle Range • Snooker Room • Table Tennis Room • Fitness Centre

Each of these facilities come at a cost to maintain and operate, including the time involved in serving our sporting and sub clubs. We see it as an integral part of who the Workers is and our role in the local community to provide these facilities for our local people to enjoy.

The words "happy" and "hour" have appeared together for centuries when describing pleasant times. In act I, scene 2 of William Shakespeare's King Henry V the protagonist says, "Therefore, my lords, omit no happy hour. That may give furtherance to our expedition..." which means: “Now, lords, don’t let slip any opportunity that might be advantageous for our expedition”. We at the Workers Club Group take this quote to mean that Happy Hour is not just a time at a place but rather it is an opportunity, an expedition if you wish. Happy Hour may be a time to reflect, a time to appreciate all that is great in a journey or story to come. For us at the Workers Club Group it is not just 60 minutes of glorious prices, but it is a magnificent 120 minutes of pure enjoyment! This isn’t just a one off, no…no… this isn’t a secret, this isn’t just a marketing ploy. It is something that you and all members of the Workers Club Group can savour every day between 3pm – 5pm.

CORNER Miracle Babies
There are many community groups in our local area making a wonderful difference in peoples lives. Not many realise that standing quietly behind them in support and giving them the resources to succeed is one consistent community enterprise…. The Blacktown Workers Group. This year, we are proud to have supported many groups making a real positive difference. Listed below are just a few of those groups: • Rotary Police Officer of the Year Awards • Mt Druitt Hospital
In last year’s Blacktown City Council’s ClubGRANTS application round, the Blacktown Workers Club Group Donations Sub-Committee perused through all the candidates carefully and chose some very worthy charities to support, one being Miracle Babies.
• Access Industries for the Disabled Ltd • Miracle Babies Foundation
Miracle Babies submitted an application for their project ‘Blacktown Hospital Nurture Time – supporting sick and premature babies and their families’. The Committee realised that this project was a very important service for families in our community.
• Warakirri College Blacktown • Blacktown City Lantern Club • Western Sydney Local Health
Initiated in 2005 by Melinda Cruz and with the help of Liverpool Hospitals Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Miracle Babies Foundation was formed by a group of mothers of premature and sick newborns. All bonded together by their NICU experiences, they shared the same common desire of wanting to support other families of miracle babies and give back to the wonderful hospitals that care for them. Miracle Babies Foundation is Australia’s leading organisation supporting premature and sick newborns, their families and the hospitals that care for them. Every year in Australia around 48,000 newborn babies require the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Special Care Nursery (SCN). Of these, 27,000 are born prematurely and up to 1,000 babies lose their fight for life. The experience of having a baby entering the world not as expected or planned is life changing and traumatic for families and Miracle Babies are there to offer support, education and resources for families of premature and sick newborns from conception to birth and the years beyond. Miracle Babies also work in partnership with healthcare providers and professional organisations in education, training, funding, research and resources.

COMMUNITY CORNER PCYC Mount Druitt – Nations of Origin Another worthy application selected at the Blacktown City Council’s ClubGRANTS round is PCYC Mount Druitt with their project being ‘Nations of Origin’, rugby league. Nations of Origin is a multifaceted program which culminates during NAIDOC week annually. The leadership program has four (4) main components including reconciliation, cultural identity, education and sport. It is aimed at increasing school retention with all participants requiring 80% school attendance to be eligible to participate. All participating sporting teams must consist of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal young people with a ratio of 70:30 in the formation of the teams. Cultural identity is a focal point of the project with all teams representing their community under their traditional local Aboriginal nation name from their area, with uniforms adorned with totems of their Aboriginal nation. Nations of Origin is held at Raymond Terrace and is sanctioned by PCYC NSW, NRL, NSWRL and CRL bodies of the Darug Nation. The funding assisted the PCYC with the travel, accommodation and uniform expenses associated with the project. In July 2018, boy’s teams and a girl’s teams attended with a total of nine (9) teams made up of 90 youth from Darug East and Darug West, of who would not normally have an opportunity to compete in these types of events. The Nations of Origin tournament is the most prestigious event in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Calendars. It identifies how proud the participants are of their culture and promotes correct behaviours in young people when challenged in a competitive environment. The young players are mentored and coached on how to work effectively as a team and appreciate the quality and needs of others. These are important aspects to instil in today’s youth.

social outings focus on one of two things; what that particular client enjoys doing, or an area they wish to further their skills in order to build independence. Each client is paired with a dedicated support worker who understands their unique set of needs. Recreational activities such as bowling, bingo and even trips to Featherdale Wildlife Park, often provide our clients with experiences they may not usually have access to. Skill-based supports such as meal preparation, money handling, how to use public transport and how to purchase items at the supermarket, are ways our clients can actively learn new skills and further their journey toward independence. Our day program is centralised on creating a strong sense of community for our clients to develop their social skills and form new friendships with clients, all the while experiencing going into the city, visiting Richmond’s Secret Garden or (crowd favourite), going for a barbeque on the bank of the Richmond river in Windsor. TherapyCare also provides in home supports through Personal Care and Domestic Assistance. Domestic Assistance services are a great way for our clients to learn skills in home maintenance, such as how to launder their clothing. One of our biggest achievements has been successfully starting up an after-school Group Recreational Therapy Program. This program was established earlier this year by our experienced recreational therapists Chris and Nicole. Clients of similar physical ability participate in a variety of exercises and games, aimed at challenging them physically all while having fun and socialising. The first part of the session includes exercises to build strength and work on fine motor skills, such as coordination. The second half of the session builds on each client’s active listening skills through games such as bull-rush and Simon says. Over the few months, our Recreational Therapy superstars have made awesome progress and are able to complete activities that they weren’t initially able to complete. Why choose TherapyCare? Working in disability is a very rewarding job. The team and I take it very seriously that we impact the quality of life of everyone we come into contact with each day. I can honestly say every member of the TherapyCare team feels honoured and grateful to be a part of each client’s journey.

NDIS Service Provider TherapyCare helping you live independently
Author J.K. Rowling famously remarked, 'We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.' This philosophy has been my driving force behind establishing and building TherapyCare. As a prominent provider of National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) approved services in Western Sydney, we know working together to understand our clients and their unique abilities is key to providing exceptional care. Since our inception in 2016, we have been welcomed into many homes, heard many heart-breaking stories, and supported those living with disability to lead a life of greater quality. I’m fortunate to have a team of dedicated support workers who have helped craft our

services with the end goal being to assist patients in achieving their goals, no matter how great or small. They each take their respective roles seriously and understand that place in each clients’ life. How do we help? We’ve been fortunate enough to see many clients improve their quality of life and independence under our care. Jim Bryant who is living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), has been with TherapyCare for nearly two years now, receiving support services including Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Domestic Assistance. During his time with us, Jim’s mobility has improved dramatically. Jim’s MS and Neuralgia means he has physical limitations and lives with chronic pain. Managing MS is no easy feat, but with the help of support worker Natalie, Jim has a new found positive outlook to
making the most out of life, and as Jim puts it, the care he has received from TherapyCare has bolstered his confidence and capabilities. “I’ve noticed a massive improvement since joining the TherapyCare community. The range of motion in my legs has improved out of sight,” says Jim. “I trust TherapyCare because when I first met the team, they were happy, easy to talk to and all really understood what MS is. My support worker Natalie knows exactly what sort of symptoms I have from MS and how to work around them. I feel truly blessed to have met Natalie and the team at TherapyCare,” Jim concludes.
A lot of people hesitate joining services or therapies. We understand that it's not easy to invite someone into your home, into your world of disability. We know that there are certain barriers and expectations you may have, but if you do feel like you would like to improve aspects of your life, whether that's physical function, or your energy levels, or pain that you've been experiencing, know you’re not alone. A lot of our clients feel the same. We understand the vulnerability and the sensitivity around living with a disability. Our Group Profit before tax @ 31-Mar-2019 is $1.4M, which is pleasingly better than budgeted expectations & also better when compared to the same financial period last year (2018).
