PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello Members, Once again it’s that time of the year when Christmas hits us in the blink of an eye. The year 2017 has had highs and lows. My lowest was to hear of the passing of our Director Les Winters. I had left for an overseas holiday with my husband a few days earlier and was devastated when I heard and found myself in the position of being unable to be there to show some comfort and support for Kerry and his family.

Our Club was honoured recently at the Leagues Club Australia conference when we were named winner of the John Knipe Award. This prestigious award is awarded annually to a Member Club for an outstanding Community or Charitable Initiative or Project which promotes or serves charitable/sporting/humanitarian ideals to benefit the community either locally or further afield, and which is also conducted independently of the ClubGRANTS funding process.

I lost a friend who I have known for more than half my life, well over 40 years. Les was always an inspiration to me and a guiding hand through our time together serving on the Board.

20

His time spent operating the barber shop endeared him to a vast majority of the Blacktown community. His caring and loving nature, honesty and integrity made Les the wonderful, kindhearted man he was. I never heard him speak unkind words about anyone and was a perfect gentleman in every way. His love of the Club and members shone through on a daily basis. His decisions were always for the Club and its members. Everyone who knew Les could see this passion. A lot of history that cannot be replaced has gone with Les as we have lost our longest standing Director. He will be missed so much. This left a vacancy on the Board. Under our constitution, next in line was invited to the Board. I am pleased to advise that Robert (Bob) Vincent has returned to the Board after a short absence. Welcome back Bob. Our CEO Neale Vaughan also left the Club after 13 years due to health issues. I wish Neale all the best and thank him for his time at the Club and the help he gave me as President. It has been a busy year for the Club with the Sporting Precinct in full swing and heading towards completion in 2018. We have received DA Application approval for both soccer and league grandstands and they will start taking shape shortly. We have also been working hard with meetings, research and consultations on our Resort Living Complex and Aged Care Facility which is close to getting the final tick to allow us to move forward with DA Application. Just a few more checks, prices and fine tuning to be done so we feel confident as a Board to make this decision on your behalf. It will be an amazing addition for our Clubs.

We received this award for our contributionto White Ribbon and Domestic Violence. I was proud to accept this award on behalf of our Board, Management, Staff and you, our members. To all our members who have lost loved ones and friends during 2017 I convey my deepest sympathy. It is a sad for all concerned but I hope you can all find friendship and some happiness as you move through this sad time. I would like to thank my Board colleagues, Management, Club Staff and members for the support you always show me. This is our Club and together we have the strength to make it better. We are a team. A special thank you to all Board partners for allowing the Club to take a lot of time away from their families as the Club continues to grow and prosper into the future. On behalf of Board of Directors and everyone working at the Club I wish you and your families a very Merry Xmas and Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year and hope to see you around any of our three Clubs enjoying your leisure time. Until next time, Keep Smiling and be kind to each other
