She has over nine years of childcare experience, seven of these have been as a Nursery Manager. Jordan has the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for the Children and Young People's Workforce- Early Years and she is now working towards her Foundation Degree in Early Years Practice. right through to Mother's Day Tea and Father's Day Breakfasts. Each of our rooms within the nursery are age related starting from our baby room which we like to call 'Ladybirds' , to our toddler 'Caterpillar' room, to then onto our preschool 'Butteries' room. Once you register your child with us we will work with you to have as many settling in sessions as you need, so your child and you feel happy and comfortable. We would be delighted to show you around our nursery so you can see for yourself what we can provide for your child. To arrange a visit please call 01908 277356.

We take babies from three months old and children stay with us right up until school age. Our practitioners appreciate and understand the worry that every parent has when they return to work, so we take great pride in building strong relationships with our parents. We send regular observations to you through our online learning journal. This enables you to see images, short video's or observations of what your child has been up to at nursery. During your child's time with us we encourage regular interaction sessions from our parents, this includes: Parent Evenings

LOCAL NEWS The Conservative party is ready to move a motion to replace Labour's Pete Marland as Milton Keynes Council leader The Tories became the largest party following last Thursday's local elections, but they have only a slender lead which doesn't command a majority, with 24 seats compared to Labour's 21, with the Liberal Democrats on 12. The previous administration had seen Labour and the Tories tied on 22 seats each, with the Liberal Democrats opting to keep Mr Marland in his position and working with Labour. And it may be that the Lib Dems have further sway this time around - but the Conservatives are making moves to gain control of the council already. Discussions remain ongoing between the three parties, but Tory leader Cllr Alex Walker - who at just 26 years of age could become the youngest MK Council leader ever - says that the largest party traditionally takes control in Milton Keynes. And he

confirmed that the Conservatives will move a motion to remove Cllr Marland at the annual council meeting on May 16. Should that vote be successful there would then be a vote for a new Leader. At the same time though, Labour and the Liberal Democrats could still form a coalition, which would likely keep Labour and Mr Marland in charge. Councillor Walker said: "I am delighted with the result. Residents backed our vision of change giving us three outstanding new councillors and the most votes across MK. "We are ready and raring to tackle the big challenges MK faces such as on homelessness and the dire state of our roads. "My new front bench team are working with officers so we are ready to hit the ground should we take control." But Liberal Democrat leader Cllr Douglas McCall has claimed that

the Conservatives have put no offer on the table for them. He told the Citizen: "I have received phone calls from the other two leaders. The Conservative party have decided to offer us nothing, which is an interesting negotiating stance. "Labour have offered to work with us in a coalition. "We will discuss the offers on the table." Meanwhile, incumbent leader Pete Marland has said that he will not 'hold on by his fingernails' to leadership. He said: "Ultimately nobody has an overall majority on the council. The Conservatives are the biggest party but they are a long way off from having a majority. "Milton Keynes is always split, but I'm not going to hold on by fingernails. If the Liberal Democrats don't want to work with us then that is their decision."

NUISANCE NEIGHBOURS Nuisance neighbours are usually associated with loud parties and overflowing rubbish bins. But even if you think you’re a law-abiding citizen, you could be breaking the law when it comes to the people next door. Whether it’s picking fruit from a neighbour’s tree which hangs over your fence, to hoovering after 8pm, it’s possible to become an accidental law breaker, says Property Litigation & Dispute Solicitor, Danielle Clements, of Gorvins Solicitors. GUIDE TO ILLEGAL NEIGHBOURLY BEHAVIOUR – THE NEIGHBOUR’S CHARTER • If you intend to attach your washing line / garden hose / plants to a neighbour’s wall or fence obtain consent first. It is your neighbour’s property so their consent is required. • Bubbling hot tubs which are relaxing for you may not be for you neighbour and could constitute a nuisance due to noise. • Only cut back tree branches to the extent that they overhang your land. Cutting back into your neighbour’s property is illegal. If the tree has a

6

preservation order you cannot cut any branches. • Do not just throw back HEDGE/TREE trimmings from overhanging plants without speaking to your neighbour first. Despite the plants belonging to them this could be considered to be garden waste fly tipping. • Do not take fruit from a neighbour’s tree even if it overhangs your land – THIS CONSTITUES theft. • Ensure any CCTV cameras around your property do not point at part or all of a neighbour’s land. This could in some cases breach privacy laws under the Human Rights Act and possibly lead to allegations of harassment. • Smoke – whether from a wood burner in the house, a chiminea in the garden, or a barbecue – can constitute a nuisance. • Keeping chickens might seem like the “good life” and a good idea but the noise, odour, flies and vermin can be deemed to be nuisance behaviour. • Be mindful where you position children’s trampolines to ensure that the noise is not too disturbing but also

to avoid children (and adults!) being able to see into neighbours gardens and affect their right to privacy. • Bright security lighting if it shines directly into a neighbour’s property can constitute light pollution or a nuisance • It is recommended by environmental health officers that noisy DIY should only take place between 8am and 6pm on weekdays, Saturdays between 8am and 1pm and never on a Sunday. Similar recommendations are in place for hoovering and other noisy domestic appliances. • If you are parking a caravan or motorhome on your drive give some thought to whether the position of the vehicle might affect your neighbours right to light and constitute a nuisance. • Do not use a neighbour’s unsecure Wi-Fi connection without their knowledge i.e. ‘piggybacking’. Criminal charges can be brought against you under the Computer Misuse Act 1990 / the Communications Act 2003

LOCAL NEWS A caring 13-year-old has started her own charity called Girl Pack to provide sanitary products to females who cannot afford to buy them. Paige Pilkington puts together little packages containing two packets of sanitary towels or tampons, a pack of new briefs and a small bottle of lotion. She distributes them for free at her school, Milton Keynes Academy, as well as through the Woughton parish council hub, Moorlands Family Centre and local churches. “They are vital to some girls who are missing school because they come from a low income family and can’t afford sanitary products. They are also vital to homeless women,” said Paige. She had a stall at a recent church fair to raise funds to buy more supplies for Girl Pack. Her efforts raised £173. Her mum Ellie said: “Paige’s hard work and commitment has astounded every one she has met. We’re so proud.”

LOCAL NEWS SAXON BRIDGE PARTNERS WITH BUZZ2GET TO OFFER ITS CUSTOMERS CAR BUYING CONVENIENCE

Milton Keynes based car superstore, Saxon Bridge, is looking to local technology to provide an even friendlier customer experience on its car sales forecourt from this May. As a family run business Saxon Bridge prides itself on its personal service and understanding its customers. Their friendly staff know that although its customers may have questions or need help and advice, they may also want to take their time and have a good look around at their leisure. To give its customer another option when they are at the showroom, Saxon Bridge has teamed up with local business Buzz2Get and is launching its unique service this May at their Wolverton branch. As a customer, by using your smartphone and scanning a code on a car you like the look of, you are taken instantly to that car on the website without having to search for it online or head back to the showroom, you can then read the independent AA report, work out costs or read and save the full details for later.

Our business is cleaning carpets and upholstery. Kleen & Fresh aren’t the type of cleaners you commission on a weekly basis, they’re the people you contact a few mes a year for that deep clean.

Then when you are ready, at the push of a button, you can request the keys, ask for further help or book a test drive for now or later on. Brett Whiles, Saxon Bridge Managing Director said: "We are not implementing technology just for the sake of it, we genuinely believe in a relaxed car buying experience, coupled with good old fashioned one to one service. What Buzz2Get allows us to do is to give our customers the space and time to look around whilst also being on hand when they need us. This is also going to be invaluable for both customers and staff at our new Mount Farm site, which launches in May, as there will be at least 500 cars available at any one time and being spread over 4 acres we don't want customers to have to walk back to the showroom just to

Recipe

Cook with

Chloe This is a classic and again great for the kids. This is a Nigella Lawson recipe that I have tried and tested over the past couple of years and it never fails to earn me ‘Brownie’ points with the kids. (Might do Brownies next …?) Bit of a crunch, but gooey fudgness on the inside – 2 batches are always best as after ‘taste testing’ there is never many left over. Makes approx 14 cookies Enjoy.

Chocolate Chip Cookies Ingredients:

Method:

• 150g Soft unsalted butter

1. Preheat the oven to 170°C/150°C Fan/325°F. Line a baking sheet with baking parchment

• 120g Soft light brown sugar • 100g Caster Sugar • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract • 1 Egg (Fridge Cold) • 300g Plain Flour • ½ Tsp Bicarb Soda • 1 x 326g Milk Chocolate Chips

TIP: The cookie should be baked only until the edges are slightly golden and the top looks a little wrinkled – They will be soft but if cooked too long, they will be dry.

18

2. Melt the butter and let it cool a bit. Put the brown and white sugars into a bowl, pour the slightly cooled, melted butter over them and beat together. 3. Beat in the vanilla, the cold egg and cold egg yolk until your mixture is light and creamy. 4. Slowly mix in the flour and bicarb until just blended, then fold in the chocolate chips. 5. Scoop the cookie dough into an American quarter-cup measure or a 60ml/quarter cup round ice cream scoop and drop onto the prepared baking sheet, plopping the cookies down about 8cm/3 inches apart. You will need to make these in 2 batches, keeping the bowl of cookie dough in the fridge between batches. 6. Bake for 15–17 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges are lightly toasted. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks.

Gardening

your garden in june June 21st is the longest day of the year, and the extra light and warmth encourages the garden to put on an extra burst of growth. It can be a variable month, with chill nights and rain, but the chances of frost are slim and the garden may never look better; regular upkeep will ensure a long summer of interest.

Jobs for the garden : Hoe borders regularly to keep down the weeds : Position summer hanging baskets and containers outside. Make sure they are well watered preferably using collected rainwater, or recycled grey water whenever possible. : Mow the lawn weekly and apply a selective weed-killer which kill weeds but not the lawn. Be careful if you have wild flowers growing in it as it may mistake them for weeds. : Plant out summer bedding and fill gaps in borders with annuals : Stake tall or floppy plants. Sweet peas can be trained onto their support to create a good display : Prune spring-flowering shrubs and cut back/clean and divide spring flowering perennials : Check roses for mildew, aphid, black-spot or other insect or disease problems and if they appear, take steps to control them straight away : Harvest lettuce, radish, other salads and early potatoes. Earth up the rest and promptly plant any potatoes still remaining. : Pinch out side shoots on tomatoes and tie in as required : Shade greenhouses to keep them cool and prevent scorch

Topical Tips – Using Annuals These are the plants that give masses of colour to your garden for just one season. You can grow them each year from seed, usually starting in a greenhouse or coldframe or get them ready to plant straight into the garden. The professional growers have then take care of the sowing, pricking out and feeding for you with a result of a nicely branched plant, blooming and ready to put in the garden. Annuals are very versatile, they can be planted in containers and hanging baskets, mixed with your shrubs and perennials to fill gaps and give extra colour or can even be used to change the look of your garden from year to year. Cosmos, antirrhinum and sun flowers all add height, sweet peas and morning glory love to climb while geraniums, petunias, impatiens and pinks give colour at the front. Most annuals will flower all season long, until cold temperatures or frost put an end to their display.

LOCAL NEWS

Celestra’s Muddy Stars support Neonatal Unit at Milton Keynes University Hospital A LOCAL company from Milton Keynes has partnered with Milton Keynes Hospital Charity to create booklets for parents who have babies born too early, too small or very ill. Last year IT specialists Celestra took part in the Nuclear Races – one of the UK’s toughest obstacle courses – in aid of Milton Keynes Hospital Charity’s neonatal unit fund. This is the third time a group of 30 guys and girls called the ‘Muddystars’ have entered the races for the neonatal unit at Milton Keynes University Hospital. Thanks to their hard work and determination they raised an amazing £3,536. This week the charity revealed how the donation has been spent – on two products that will enhance the experience families and patients receive on the neonatal unit. All new parents on the neonatal unit will be given an early babies parent handbook, which acts a practical guide for parents with premature babies – and is particularly useful if a parent finds themselves in the unit unexpectedly.

26

The hospital has also been able to produce bespoke baby diaries, which allow parents to document their journey on the neonatal unit – including key milestones such as ‘the first time you held me’ and ‘the first time I came out of the incubator’. The diary also features a Graduation Certificate! Staff on the unit, as well as parents, have been involved in the production of this diary from start to finish. Senior sister Karen Rice said: ‘The diaries will provide memories for loved ones for years to come and something for families to treasure. As donations to our neonatal unit are about making a direct difference to the hospital’s tiniest patients and their loved ones, we are most thankful for Celestra’s amazing contribution and fundraising efforts.’ Celestra were able to see the finished product last week and were delighted with the end result. Celestra Marketing manager Glen Irving said: ‘It’s great to be involved with the neonatal unit, which has supported members of our team here at Celestra in the past. We understand the vital work that this unit does first hand in supporting families and it’s a pleasure to help where we can.’ Photograph: Staff from Celestra holding the neonatal unit baby diaries.

We've chosen this work because this year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. Our choir will continue rehearsing each Wednesday through July, before taking a summer break in August. Rehearsals resume on Wednesday 5th September, in preparation for a concert jointly with Bedford Choral Society and Milton Keynes City Orchestra in Milton Keynes Theatre on Sunday 14th October.
