This week the sports world was wounded. In one corner legendary boxer, working class hero and Olympic gold medalist, Smokin’ Joe Frazier was stolen from this world by liver cancer. In the other, Penn State’s prolific leader Joe Paterno was unceremoniously dismissed after failing to follow through after learning of a colleague’s sexual molestation of a child. With all this turmoil, the lesson this week is that we must be vigilant with our choices, because none of us are guaranteed the time to make it right. These type of lessons are never learned easily. The riotous Penn State students took to the streets to demonstrate their anger over the treatment of Paterno. Unfortunately, their premature impulsiveness only made them look insensitive and fanatical to a world where the stigma of coming forward as a sex assault victim is still a concern. We understand their hero was not treated with the respect that 46 years of service deserves, but part of maturity is realizing what is truly important. After the campus settled, many students gathered together at a candlelight vigil to show solidarity with the current 17 accusers. Reports suggest that far more students and faculty participated in the vigil than the riot. It is also important to remember that there are not only 17 victims. The families, teammates, coaches and Penn State community are feeling the fallout of these actions. Because so many attended in the spirit of support and reconciliation, I predict the Penn is still mighty and will overcome. The desire to overcome hardships was also clearly evident in the life of Frazier. Being raised poor, black, and uneducated was nothing new in the farm communities of the 1940’s south. After leaving home at the age of 15, Frazier used his God-given
talent and drive to become an Olympic gold medalist and Muhammad Ali’s adversary in one of boxing’s most storied rivalries. They fought viciously in the press and in the ring, but when Ali had his boxing license suspended in state after state, Frazier petitioned former President Nixon to have him reinstated. This epic match-up remains the cornerstone of modern boxing legend. Throughout his career there were several times when Frazier considered giving up. After injuring himself in the 1964 Olympics, he fought through the pain and brought home the U.S.A’s only boxing gold medal that year. Later, at the Fight of the Century against Ali at Madison Square Garden, Frazier battled back after a few tough rounds to win. He spent the next month in and out of the hospital battling hypertension and a kidney infection. There were countless times when the fight for Frazier was outside of the ring, but inside his own body. His liver cancer only took a few weeks from diagnosis to claim him. So, as these illustrious chapters in sports history come to a close, let’s not stay oblivious to the lessons both Joes have taught us. In regards to our fellow man’s welfare, we are our brother’s keeper. And if we want to be the best, we must be watchful and surround ourselves with the best. In the end our names will be either be praised or sullied by the company we chose to keep.

Sun. Nov. 20 – 2:00PM – Homestead-Miami Speedway – ESPN
Prior to the start of the season, the Ohio State University was in a world of hurt. Gone were Tressel and Pryor. A scandal marred their reputation. Penn State aka State Penn are now in a worse position. Gone are JoePa and their stellar name. Perhaps the three hours on the field will provide some relief for both teams. This will be a true test for Penn State since it’s their first road game since their nightmare began.
This is it, the last race of the season! Number 36 of 36. The Chase for the Sprint Cup has been an exciting one and now it’s down to two drivers. Carl Edwards is the points leader with Tony Stewart down by three. That’s all that matters. Both drivers have won here twice previously. Edwards won here as recently as last year. Expect all the drivers to give their best efforts in this one! Follow blitz weekly on twitter and facebook

Watch it at:
Urijah “The California Kid” Faber (25-5-0) vs. Brian Bowles (10-1-0):
Anytime that the little guys enter the octagon you can count on a fast paced, action packed fight. These two are among the best in the world in the 135lb division and this will be an exciting match. Faber has quite a bit more experience, but with the way the fight game has evolved, that really doesn’t mean much. Both fighters are well rounded with very strong submission games. I don’t see either fighter submitting the other here. I predict a stand up war with Bowles winning a split decision. Faber is an all-time great, but I think he has peaked already in his career where as Bowles is still growing.
Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva (33-11-1) vs. Cung Le (7-1-0): This one could be called the legend vs the myth. Silva is one of the greatest fighters of all time. Le has a ton of hype behind him but has not been very active at all, amassing only eight fights in five and a half years. He has beaten some good fighters but has never seen anyone like Silva before. The problem for Silva is that he is past his prime while Le very well could be in his. This fight will not go to the ground unless Le takes it there. Le is a very technical striker with an extremely unorthodox style. Silva on the other hand is a technical brawler. Unless The Axe Murderer (Silva) lands a huge shot, I see Le winning via KO in the second. If Silva does win, he should retire. I call Le in this one, unfortunately. Marcio “Shogun” Rua (20-5-0) vs. Dan “Hendo” Henderson (28-8-0): At 29 years old, Rua has the best resume in MMA for his age. This guy is in his 20’s and already a legend! Hendo on the other hand has an equally impressive resume but he is 41 years old. Rua is a devastating striker with a good Jiu Jitsu game. Henderson is an Olympic caliber wrestler with dynamite in his right hand. If this fight stays standing, Rua should be able to pick Hendo apart. Hendo will try diligently for a takedown though. Rua is no slouch on the ground, but the definitive advantage here will be to Henderson. Here is the way this fight will go: They’ll touch gloves, Rua takes the center of the cage and controls the striking. Hendo looks for a takedown and gets it. Rua is able to get up. Rinse and repeat for the whole first round. There will be more of the same in the second. In the third, Hendo will land a bomb that KO’s Rua. Dan Henderson by KO in the third.

STARS Stars Break Even on Road
The Dallas Stars hit the road last week for probably the toughest week of away games they will see all season. They managed to scrap out a 2-2 record, with convincing wins against Carolina and Washington to start the road trip before losing back to back games on consecutive nights to two tough opponents in Pittsburg and Detroit. The Stars were outplayed in the last two games, but hopefully they came away with something more than two losses and no points. “Playing Pittsburgh and Detroit, we’ve learned some lessons now,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “I’d rather learn them at 11-5 than at 5-11. Our motto in that room is to get better every day
and that’s what we are going to try to do. At least we’re measuring ourselves against the best, historically, in the league than the bottom.” “I can tell you truthfully – I won’t tell you what – but I’ve gotten better over the last three days, watching these teams play and seeing some of the things they do and some of the things we can improve in our game. It’s been a good learning experience.” This will mark the first time this season the Stars have lost two consecutive games. At this point last season they had already had two three-game losing streaks. Stars backup goaltender Andrew Raycroft fell to 0-3-0 on the season. All three of his starts have come on the road and on the second night of a back-to-back. Raycroft hasn’t won a game since January 9 of last season. So goes the life of a back up goalie in the

NHL. Gulutzan made a controversial decision to sit starting goalie Kari Lehtonen against the Western Conference foe Detroit, opting to play him the night before against the Eastern Conference Pittsburg Penguins. “That’s exactly what his job is. I talked to Rayzor at the beginning of the year and in actuality he
has one of the tougher jobs of anybody there,” said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. “He gets the tougher games and the back-to-backs usually. I thought for the most part, he was OK tonight. We never gave him a chance. There was far too much rubber at the net for him to deal with.” The Stars were uncharacteristically bad in the third period against Pittsburg and Detroit. They were outscored 2-0 in the third in Pittsburgh and then outscored 3-0 in the third in Detroit. The Stars have now been outscored 19-17 in third periods this season. The Stars were outshot 72-47 in the games against Detroit and Pittsburgh. The Stars were 1-2 on the power play against Detroit and are 8-28 (28.6%) on the PP over their last eight games. The Stars were 4-4 on the penalty kill, marking the fifth time this season they have not allowed a power play goal in a game. The Stars return to the friendly confines of the AAC for five of their next six games, where they have a 5-1 record this season. Follow blitz weekly on twitter and facebook

TCU Ends Boise Home Win Streak Casey Pachall’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Carter with 1:05 left and ensuing go ahead two-point conversion to Josh Boyce gave TCU a thrilling 36-35 win over Boise State and ended the Bronco’s 35-game home winning streak, which had been the nation’s longest. Boise State’s Dan Goodale booted a 39-yard field-goal attempt wide right as time expired to preserve TCU’s victory against the fifth-ranked Broncos. Pachall threw for a career high 473 yards, completing 24 of 37 passes and five touchdowns, including tosses of 75, 74 and 69 yards in the first half. But his most important throws came in the final minutes when he rallied the Horned Frogs (8-2, 5-0) to a stunning victory that spoiled any Boise State hopes of playing for a national title. The game was the last conference matchup between these two perennial BCS busters and was

Mustangs Limp South to Face Houston After hearing pregame pep talks from the great Navy legend Roger Staubach, and Dallas sports super fan former President George W. Bush, the Navy Midshipmen took to Ford Field and beat the SMU Mustangs 24-17. The loss was the fifth in a row for SMU against the Middies. June Jones has
a back-and-forth battle from the start, with Boise State jumping out in front early and TCU storming back to take a 20-14 lead at the half. TCU coach Gary Patterson made a gutsy call with the two-point conversion on his team’s last touchdown with just over a minute left in the game. Patterson said the decision to go for two points was easy considering the circumstances. “We’re not going to win this if this keeps going,” Patterson said. “So, the only way we’re going to be able to do it is to steal it. We were able to get the play and get the points and we were fortunate that they missed a field goal. It’s just as simple as that.” The win gives the Horned Frogs the inside track on the league championship in their final year in the Mountain West. TCU wraps up the season with home games against Colorado State and UNLV.
faced Navy several times while he was the coach at Hawaii but has yet to beat them as the head of the Mustangs. The loss drops the Mustangs record to (6-4,4-3) and sends them to limping off to face the conference leading and 11th ranked Houston Cougars Saturday for the Big ESPN Game day broadcast. Not the best way to go into a week facing another team that nobody on this current Mustang roster has beaten. SMU seemed to have a good game plan in place against Navy but mistakes tipped passed and untimely penalties did in the Mustangs in as Navy wore down the Pony defense with the triple option they run so well. Head coach June Jones thought that if they could make the Midshipmen punt three or more times they would win the game, which the Mustangs were able to do but it was the turnovers in the passing game that ended costing SMU in the end. JJ McDermott was 26-36 for 249 yards but threw two interceptions on key drives and missed a wide-open Terrance Wilkerson running free for a touchdown. After the game when asked about the play McDermott said, “that was my fault” about the play. Mistakes and poor play will get SMU drilled Saturday in Houston. The ponies are about to play their toughest game since Texas A&M opening day. Houston is coming in fresh off of a Thursday night beat down of Tulane 73-17. Yeah, you read that right 73 not 37. Houston is lead by Quarterback Case Keenum and running back Charles Sims on offense. Keenum has thrown for 3951 yards and a ridiculous 37 touchdowns versus three interceptions. Sims averages almost nine yards a carry and has nine touchdowns on the season. This looks like a tough spot for Bowl eligible SMU this week. If they play like they did against Navy it will get ugly.

The Mean Green came to play last week against Troy and walked out with a win. QB Derek Thompson threw for 331 yards and two touchdowns to help lead UNT to an important victory. RB Lance Dunbar left the game early with a knee injury, but James Hamilton took over and answered the call. UNT and Troy went back and forth until the fourth quarter when UNT took control of the game on both sides of the ball. This was a big step for the team to keep a winning record in conference and

The Oklahoma Sooners appear to be back on track after their embarrassing home loss to Texas Tech earlier this season. Though they lost star wide out Ryan Broyles to injury, this team still packs quite a punch. The Baylor Bears have already qualified for a bowl berth with six wins thus far, making it their first time to have back-to-back bowl appearances since the 1991 and 1992 seasons. The Sooners offense starts with helmsman and Heisman candidate Landry Jones. He has plenty of weapons at his disposal and will make use of them. The accurate quarterback has completed over 64% of his passes this season. He has 28 touchdowns so far this season while being sacked only three times. He’s smart and will make the right reads. With Dominique Whaley out, RB Roy
the hope of postseason alive. This is the kind of teamwork and effort that will be needed this upcoming weekend as they play host to the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky. Western Kentucky comes to North Texas holding the second best conference record at 5-1, trailing Arkansas State whose conference standing is a perfect 6-0. Arkansas State was the Hilltoppers only conference loss and it was only by four points. This WKU team usually comes to play. They are coming off a drumming by the #1 team in the country LSU, but they did put up a fight in the first half. At this time RB Dunbar is still questionable for Saturday, whether or not he goes, the rest of the team must be ready to get after it again. It would be a plus to have Dunbar in the backfield, but the offense showed last week it can rise to the challenge without him if need be. UNT’s defense is going to be tested this week and must find a way to stifle RB Rainey of WKU. If WKU comes in here flat after playing LSU and is not focused, they may find out this isn’t only a new stadium in Denton, but a new football team as well. Coach McCarney must keep this team in the motion of moving forward and not stalling, keep the Mean Green’s intensity level high, and stop Rainey from running up and down the field. UNT could find itself in a nice spot and with a feeling of a great accomplishment come Saturday night. Fire the canon boys and knock off the Hilltoppers!
Finch has steeped up superbly. The shifty back can break a long one and possesses soft hands out of the backfield. The loss of Broyles in a physical game against A&M certainly changes the passing attach for the Sooners. He had a great rapport with Jones that will be missed. Wide receivers Kenny Stills and Jaz Reynolds must step up to provide a balanced Sooner attack. The defense is still a force to be reckoned with and will be chasing Robert Griffin III all night. That pressure could create scoring opportunities for this hungry group seeking another Big 12 title. Mr. Everything, Robert Griffin III, is the key to this Baylor Bear team. As previously mentioned this team is bowl bound and a win over Oklahoma would go a long ways for the school seeking recognition as a legitimate Top 25 team. RGIII can do it all. Pass, run and even be useful a part of trick plays if called upon. His stats are comparable to Jones’, which are impressive. When RGIII doesn’t have the ball in his hands, look for RB Terrance Ganaway to carry the load. The big back can take it the distance as evidenced by his 80-yard run against Missouri. Wide receiver Kendall Wright is a difference maker and his number will be called early and often. The Bear defense is nothing to write home about. Baylor has to hope for a shoot out and a fast start to remain competitive in this one.

COWBOYS
Cowboys 5-4
Bills Fall, Redskins Up Next
The Dallas Cowboys (5-4) massive 44-7 destruction of the Buffalo Bills (5-4) was the best show they have put on all season. Everything seemed to fall into place like a perfect puzzle as the offense, defense and special teams each clicked on all cylinders. Quarterback Tony Romo hit his first 13 attempts and finished 23 of 26 (88.5 percent), setting the Cowboys franchise record for single-game accuracy. For the second consecutive week, Romo had no interceptions and was not sacked. Running back DeMarco Murray had 20 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown and added 35 yards on six receptions. The Cowboys scored their most points since September 9, 2007 and their 37-point margin is bigger than any regular-season victory in Dallas under legendary coaches Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells. “We are learning a little bit about who we are and what we can do and what we are capable of doing,” Romo said after facing the defense that leads the NFL in takeaways and had the second-most interceptions. “I like the direc-
By Jay Betsill @thefamousjay tion we are going.” The most memorable moment of former Cowboys head coach Chan Gailey’s homecoming to North Texas may well have been the Bills only touchdown of the day, a three-yard pass to David Nelson that was highlighted by his running the length of the sideline to give the ball to his girlfriend, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders fouryear veteran Kelsi Reich. With the confidence that comes with such a lopsided victory, the Cowboys begin a threeweek stretch against some of the dregs of the NFL beginning with a trip up to FedEx Field to battle their NFC East rival Washington Redskins (3-6). In an attempt to spark the Redskins struggling offense and snap a four-game losing streak, head coach Mike Shanahan made a surprise switch at quarterback in going with Rex Grossman over John Beck. The Skins offense continued to struggle as they fell to the hapless Miami Dolphins 20-9, marking the first five-game losing streak of Shanahan’s coaching career and
for the Redskins their longest losing streak since 2001. Washington’s defense fared little better as Dolphins running back Reggie Bush had two rushing touchdowns and former Cowboys quarterback Matt Moore went 20-of-29 for 209 yards through the air. “You go with more of an experienced guy that has dealt with these situations,” Shanahan said in explaining his switch to Grossman. “I didn’t want to put John in a situation where we had a number of guys down, and with his experience, especially over the last two weeks, I didn’t think that was the right thing to do.” There is no doubt that the Redskins will treat this as a playoff game with the intensity of this rivalry and coming on the heels of Dallas’ tightly contested 18-16 victory on September 26 at Cowboys Stadium, the Skins will go into Sunday’s game with plenty of confidence. Dallas will have to be cautious to not look beyond the Washington game. With the New York Giants losing on the road in San Francisco in Week 10,

the Cowboys find themselves one game out of first place heading to Washington in spite of being above .500 for the first time since September.
Cowboys Dominate Bills in Pivotal Game A few weeks ago the Cowboys were dismantled by the Eagles in every way possible and the outcome was evident in the first quarter. Fast forward two weeks later and a very solid Buffalo Bills team came to Cowboys Stadium in what many considered pivotal in the quest to go on a winning streak. There was considerable respect for what the Bills had produced. Well now the Bills know how the Cowboys felt. By the end of the first quarter and the Cowboys ahead 21-0 it was evident that this was going to be a bigger than anticipated Cowboy win. And it was as the Cowboys defeated the Bills 44-7. Every aspect to the game was lopsided and the Cowboys were more than solid in every category. Highlights on Offense: 1. Jason Witten becoming the third ranking tight end in the history of the NFL in terms of receptions. 2. DeMarco Murry putting together another 100-yard game with 135 yards. 3. The offensive line contributing good run blocking and impeccable pass protection for Tony Romo. Many receivers contributed with Laurent Robinson again showing us great value to this team in the absence of Miles Austin. 4. And certainly a great day by Tony Romo as he was 23-26 for 270 plus and did a won-
By Joe Avezzano www.hattricksdallas.com derful job of running the attack. Highlights on Defense: The defense took away big plays from the Bills and produced four turnovers. A 4-0 edge in turnovers will win many games. The secondary is playing very well. Here’s why. The addition of Abram Elam at safety gives the Cowboys better play at that position then they had last year plus his knowledge of the system. This has allowed Gerald Sensabaugh to play his position and not worry about much else. Alan Ball is more productive at corner and can give Terence Newman some rest which helps Newman be healthier than he’s been for a long time. His two interceptions today were very big towards the outcome of the game. Using Danny McCray

and Barry Church as nickel linebackers helps the mobility of the sub packages. The return of Sean Lee helps everyone and so the Cowboys were able to limit the Bills to 271 yards. In the kicking game Dan Bailey continues to be reliable on both field goals and kickoffs. He is the kicker of the now and future.
What does all this mean? The Giants lose to the 49ers so now the Cowboys are one game behind New York for the NFC East lead. The teams are getting ready to start sprinting to the end of the season. First one to 10 wins usually gets you in the playoffs. At 5-4 the Cowboys possibly have to go 5-2 in the last seven games. They don’t ask you how but only if you’ve won enough to get in the playoffs. With two games against the Giants down the line they promise to be for all the NFC East marbles. Do what you are capable of doing against Miami and Arizona and it will all be set up nicely. Stumble and you probably eliminate yourself. So it was a very good day for the Cowboys. And if you return home to Buffalo just realize that the Cowboys know how you feel. Joe Avezzano can be heard Tuesday nights at 7pm on 95.3FM and on all Cowboy postgame shows on 105.3 The Fan. He can be seen on Channel 21 on Wednesday nights at 7:30pm. Carmine’s Pizzeria: Carmine’s Pizzeria has been taking care of loyal and new customers for years. They specialize in thin crust New York style pizza. Enjoy it by the slice or an entire pie. Their smallest size is 14” – and a large 20” will feed 4 to 5 Blitz Weekly readers. Carmine’s also offers a thicker crust Sicilian pizza. With over 25 toppings to choose from, a variety of cheeses and a white sauce, Carmine’s can create a pizza for whatever you are craving. 1565 W. Main Street, Suite 210, Lewisville, (972) 956-0705; carmineslewisville.com, $10.99 to $21.99+ Campisi’s Restaurants: The legend of Campisi’s claims that there wasn’t any pizza in Dallas until they introduced it in 1946. The restaurant has a rich and interesting history. Jack Ruby dined at the original Campisi’s the night before he shot Lee Harvey Oswald. Several locations are currently run by third and fourth generation family members of the original owners. The menu is traditionally Italian, the portions are huge and the pizza is served in old school rectangular slices; very East Coast. Go for the ambiance, and the history. Multiple Locations, Dallas; campisis. us, $7.25 to $11.95+

The authenticity is taken so seriously here that Grimaldi’s imports “New York water” to enhance the dough. Capiche? Multiple Dallas Metroplex Locations; grimaldispizzeria.com, $9 to $16+
Joe’s Pizza, Pasta & Subs: This family owned and operated establishment has been serving the Carrollton area for over 12 years. They offer New York-style pizza without the New York attitude. Their lunch special is excellent – two massive slices and a drink for $5! They also offer a Sicilian deep dish pizza for those with hearty appetites. We recommend topping off your meal with a cannoli; Joe’s has one of the best in the Metroplex. The homey atmosphere and New York memorabilia are awesome. 1904 E. Belt Line Road, Carrollton, (972) 416-6555; joespizzasubs.com, $9.25 - $16.95+ LA Gourmet Pizza: On McKinney Ave. sits a beacon for those of us out there who believe that pizza can still be awesome. With a Hollywood themed mural and fast-paced environment, LAGP is a ‘different’ place. Once the first taste of sliced bliss hits your palate it’ll be apparent why they are a mainstay of Uptown. Light and airy, the crust almost hovers over the plate. The sauce is not too rich, while definitely not boringly bland, and the cheese ties all the flavors together. 2709 McKinney Ave., Dallas, (214) 981-9337; lagourmetpizza.com, $7 to $14+
Dough Bro’s Italian Kitchen: The conveniently located Dough Bro’s casual dining ambiance has an upscale feel to it. While in line you’ll witness the “assembly zone” in full effect. From an open kitchen, they create your pizza in front of you. Select one meat and three vegetables for toppings – and there’s no more “per topping charge,” which is nice. Have a sweet tooth? Try the cookie pizza. They sell $1 Ziegenbock all day on Tuesdays. 5181 Keller Springs Road, Dallas, (469) 248-0058; doughbro.com, $7.25 - $14+ Grimaldi’s: Grimaldi’s traditionally excellent coal-fired brick oven pies are crisp, smoky, bold and distinctive. They are also delicious. Handmade mozzarella makes all the difference for their pizzas, with that ingredient practically oozing to the very edge. This place is so Italian that if you put your ear to the sauce you can actually hear Dean Martin singing “That’s Amore.”
NEXT Wood Fired Bistro and Vino Bar: It’s new and nifty, with one of the few authentic, Italian-made totally wood burning ovens in the Metroplex. The pizzas are thin and crispy beauties, with ingredients like ricotta cheese, caramelized onions (really caramelized, not merely wilted) and white truffle cream. Chef/owner Ying Aikens and her wine guru husband Tom have brought their years of catering experience to the Colleyville scene, giving Southlake area burb dwellers something much more special than they’ve had before. 5003 Colleyville Rd., Colleyville, (682) 325-4046; nextwoodfiredbistro. com, $7 - $12+ Zini’s Pizzeria: We’ve listed the mothership, but they also have locations on Greenville Avenue and Cedar Springs Road; all are the places for late-night meals. Try a slice or an entire thin crust pizza. We recommend the “100 Pounder Pizza,” 100 slices of pepperoni and a pound of fresh mozzarella. Zini’s has excellent desserts – lots of variety here – including tiramisu, cheesecake and chocolate fortune cookies. They also serve Mexican Coca-Cola. 2639-C Elm Street, Dallas, (214) 571-9299; zinispizza.com, $9.69 to $11.85+

The Dark Knight has been running the streets of Gotham a long time. During that time, he has had his hands full with the likes of Joker, Riddler, Two-Face and many more, but he has also had his fair share of women, too. Right now, Anne Hathaway is taking over the role of Catwoman. I began thinking about the other sirens of Gotham that we need to see on the big screen in tight, sexy, long legged outfits. Here are my open casting calls for the sirens of Gotham City.
Catwoman A n n e H a t ha w a y Move over, Michelle Pfeiffer; there is a new pussy coming next year in The Dark Knight Rises. Anne Hathaway is about to become one of the sexiest women in Hollywood (maybe the world), once she puts on black leather and starts giving it to Batman with a whip. Known for her work in Alice in Wonderland, The Princess Diaries, and The Devil Wears Prada, Hathaway should be just the eye candy needed to keep nerd boys up at night thinking about becoming men.
Poison Ivy Fa m k e J a n s s e n Man-hating Pamela Isley, better known as Poison Ivy, is obsessed with plants, and, thanks to her mind control pheromones, men are obsessed with her. Famke Janssen fits this roll perfectly. Just look at the work she did in Nip/Tuck and in GoldenEye. Just thinking of her in green skin paint with a few well-placed leaves is enough to make any man’s head explode. It may be just what is needed to push a Batman movie to a NC17 rating.
Harley Quinn Sh e r i M o o n Z o m b i e Harley Quinn is one of the newest women in Batman’s life. She is an over-the-top jester who is head-over-heels in love with The Joker. Only one woman, Sheri Moon Zombie, can only play this crazy, sexy psycho. Sheri may be the only person alive that can smash a man’s head in with a 30-pound mallet, give a sinister laugh, and dance like a stripper - all at the same time. We know she is crazy, being married to Rob Zombie. Trust me she will give you the best nightmares that you’ll never want to end.
Batgirl/Oracle Mila Kunis For Batgirl/Oracle, we call on Mila Kunis, best known for her role on That ‘70s Show and more recently, Black Swan. Mila has what it takes to pull off the look of Commissioner Gordon’s daughter, Barbara Gordon, turned Batgirl turned Oracle. Oracle is Batman’s sole source of information establishing herself as Batman’s intellectual equal. Truth be told, we all just want to see her in black tights… mmm...mmmmm.
Talia al Ghul Olivia Wilde Ra’s al Ghul’s estranged daughter, Batman’s love interest and mother of his son, Talia al Ghul is the leader of a world-wide criminal empire. Ranked #1 in 2009 by Maxim’s Hot 100, Olivia Wilde has the look of an international vixen that could kick your ass to next week leaving you begging for more. Maybe best know for her role as Dr. Remy ‘Thirteen’ Hadley on the Fox TV show House, Olivia has proven herself ready for the big time comic movies with roles in Cowboys & Aliens and Tron: Legacy.
Vicki Vale A l i La r t e r With suspicions regarding Batman’s identity, Vicki Vale will stop at nothing to find the truth. Which brings us to Ali Larter, a Cherry Hill, New Jersey, native who has been in such movies as Obsessed, Resident Evil: Afterlife, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. She might be best known for her role on the television hit, Heroes. This ass-kicking blonde bombshell has the look of a reporter that will relentlessly pursue any and every story. She may not wear tights in the movie, but it is a safe bet that she will be wearing a lot less.

Simon Curtis’ My Week With Marilyn Boy Meets Girl Meets World
ilyn would go on to film her most beloved classic: Some Like It Hot. The story, however intrinsically entertaining, would be nothing without the magic of the actors; Curtis repeated that it is “a story about cinema,” at its heart. While Michelle Williams (previously of late Heath Ledger-babymama fame) probably wouldn’t have crossed my mind to play the lead, she does an immensely convincing job; there are scenes in which it is very easy to forget that it’s not Marilyn herself on screen. “She was understandably nervous” about taking the role, Curtis explained when asked about how Michelle felt about the honor, “… she wanted to do it but sort of had to talk herself into doing it.” Kenneth Branagh (Valkyrie) plays a fabulously anxiety-ridden and Shakespeare-quoting Sir Lawrence Olivier, while Judy Dench charms as “The Sweetest Grandma on Earth,” Dame Sybil. “First love is such sweet despair, Colin,” she proclaims, gently, thus wrapping up the boy’s experiences, and the film, in a single phrase.

Immortals
What if your very first love – and subsequent first heart murderer – was Marilyn Monroe, a superstar seven years your senior, married, and falling to pieces in front of your face? This is what faced 23-year-old Colin Clark in My Week With Marilyn, BBC heavyweight Simon Curtis’ biographical film that’s been swirling in a vague cloud of Oscar buzz. The film is based on the late Clark’s diaries detailing the period of time in which he served as “Third Assistant Director” on the set of 1957’s The Prince and the Showgirl, starring Monroe and Sir Lawrence Olivier. It is Colin’s wide, boyish eyes that guide the action of the film and it’s his innocent role as liaison between the leading lady and the rest of the world that allows for such a uniquely honest look at the icon that is Marilyn Monroe. Rather than a mere regurgitation of commonly held notions, the story turns out instead to reveal the hole into which this profoundly wounded human being has fallen. Marilyn fights not only the immense pressure of the public eye, but the even greater challenge within herself to simply “be.” It is this element that Curtis most wants viewers to take home afterward. “[Michelle and I] grew to really, really admire Marilyn during the making of this film,” he said, during a special public Q&A following the screening. “She had such high hopes, she was so determined to be taken seriously as an actress […],” and despite the initial disappointment of The Prince and the Showgirl, afterward, Mar-

In ancient Greece, 1228, B.C., the evil dictator King Hyperion has assembled a massive army in his quest to reign over heaven and Earth. In search of the legendary Epirus Bow, he will stop at nothing to unleash the sinister Titans and cause certain doom for all mankind. With two worlds once again on the brink of all-out war, Zeus, ruler of Mt. Olympus and father of the gods, has secretly been grooming Theseus, a lowly slave to lead the resistance and defend all of humanity against the bloodthirsty tyrant. Theseus played by Henry Cavill gives a solid performance as the righteous young peasant who carries a small chip on his shoulder after growing up without ever knowing his biological father. His mother, unfortunately, is best known as the town trollop. Although she is a steadfast believer in the gods, Theseus has yet to be converted. Veteran of the stage and screen John Hurt plays the old man, Zeus, and gives the film a strong foundation with his robust story telling skills. A realistic father and son dynamic is evident in their give and take when the old man prods Theseus about getting married and vice versa about his Medicare eligibility status. The normally surefire Mickey Rourke in his role as King Hyperion was off the mark. While he definitely looks the part of an ageing battle-scarred monarch, his deep, throaty voice was difficult to understand at times and his constant on screen chomping bordered on nauseating. Director Tarsem Singh provides plenty of breathtaking views with the Oracle played by the seductive Freida Pinto and Isabel Lucas’ natural portrayal of the Greek Goddess Athena. The chemistry between Theseus and the Oracle Phaedra was electric and both offered great sacrifices for one another. One of the surprising aspects of the film was the scene-stealing performance of Stephen Dorff as Stavros, the small-time thief who has a habit of speaking his mind even if it gets him into trouble. Although he has a tendency to go shopping for five-finger discounts, he is a battle-tested warrior and has a quick wit that is hard to come by in such oppressive times. There are of course, influences from 300 with the Greeks and their dark underworld battle foes. For those looking for a film as ground-breaking and powerful as 300, however, this is not it. Although the early tidal wave of fossil fuels is impressive and the unofficial beginning of the better CGI sequences, it is still not enough to overcome the disappointingly slow building elements of character development and motivation. Another influence was the Star Wars trilogy with a struggling rebellion needing a new hope and the young apprentice being asked by an ominous ruler to join his empire.

Politics and music have always been strange bedfellows. Much like a parent-child relationship with one constantly at odds with or chastising the other, politicians and musicians often find themselves in position of polarity with one another. The irony lies in the fact that they are both saddled with the task of ‘changing the world’. At this particular moment in time, our nations is being bombarded with enough politicians and sound bites to fuel Jon Stewart’s, Conan’s, and Leno’s writers until the second coming. But I propose a new way to get to know our candidates and even our President in a new and quite possibly more honest way; Playing their debates and speeches on mute with a musical number of their choice melodically portraying the message that they are painstakingly trying to convey. . Lets take a look at the playlist: Herman Cain Don McLean American Pie Cain could slice his perfectly baked and scrumptious American pie into 9 slices, hand it to 9 people, and watch 9 people get sick of having it shoved down their throat. Not to mention all the other American Pie that he’s allegedly got himself into. Herman’s dj may also consider playing The Bad Touch by The Bloodhound Gang.

Newt Gingrich Chumbawamba Tubthumper The king of getting knocked down and getting up again Newt seems completely oblivious that the rest of the country believes he has no chance whatsoever to sit in the Oval Office other than as a visitor. There are many reasons to say no to drugs, but it might be hard for some people to take notice of an overdramatic PSA depicting a toothless heroin addict turning tricks on the corner. People are in too much denial to take it seriously. So, instead, consider the other dangers of drugs and alcohol: Marijuana—This drug is very dangerous, especially since it will make you go to Café Brazil at four in the morning or want to over-eat large amounts of Dutch Moon Cookies and Taco Bell chalupas. If you’re not careful with marijuana, at the end of the night you could end up with a stomachache and a cold bed. Cocaine—This is the drug that over-stimulates the ego, which can be very dangerous. For one thing, it can make you think you’re smart when you’re not, which can result in you jabbering away like a rabid monkey while chain-smoking cigarettes. Also, cocaine will give you the false impression that you are the coolest badass--”I’m too sexy for my shirt...”--when in reality no one is listening to you and you’ll forget every brilliant thing you said the next morning. Ecstasy—In contrast to cocaine, Ecstasy will bring out your sweet inner child. However, this can also be dangerous because it may cause you to fall in love with anybody you come across, including your taxi driver or the counter guy at the gas station. Things can also get treacherous at clubs or raves, especially when you start thinking that rubbing up against other sweaty strangers is good idea. And if you start thinking house music is actually ‘not that bad’ then you’re really in trouble. LSD—The problem with Acid is that you might have a bad trip, which would feel not unlike a short-lived schizophrenic episode. A bad trip could also happen at any time. One minute you could be climbing trees in the yard at two in the morning and the next you could be thinking you’re a crucified Jesus as your parents tell you you’re going nowhere in life. The best thing to do at this point is to watch The Lion King while drinking hot cocoa. Pills—Painkillers and anti-anxiety medication can be very dangerous, especially when you’re running errands. You could end up leaving the mall with a shopping bag full of neon orange and green ill-fitting underwear you won’t be able to return, or even worse, you could fall asleep in the parking lot or forget you’re driving all together. Alcohol—While it may be the only legal substance listed, there is nothing more irresponsible than bingedrinking, which could cause you to suddenly morph into a slobbering man-beast who urinates in public, swears at old ladies, and gets into heated political debates with nine-year-olds. Also, it is not uncommon to wake up the next morning with no recollection of the night before and feeling like you have a severe head injury. On top of that, your friends will relish in recounting how you stumbled home with a big-boned woman that your roommate swears had a pronounced Adam’s apple.

The SPECS Engine Type 3.6L V6
2012 Cadillac SRX:
Horsepower 308 @ 6800 rpm
Style Meets Sense
By David Goodspeed dgoodspeed@blitzweekly.com
The Cadillac SRX is all new for 2012 – under the hood that is. The current generation luxury crossover came to life a couple of years ago after a complete transformation that brought SRX from a “don’t-callme-a-wagon” wagon to a modern sport-luxe utility. Sharing the same platform as the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain, the 2012 SRX now sports one engine offering, that being a peppy direct-injection 3.6-liter V-6 that cranks out 308hp and 265 lb. ft. of torque. This is sent to the front or all four wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox with a driverselectable Eco mode for enhanced fuel economy. SRX models sporting the AWD chassis gain a limited-slip rear differential that allows power to be distributed to the wheel with the best traction. The new SRX bespeaks modern
Cadillac and features state-of-the-art amenities and sharp styling cues. It offers a quiet, confident ride and handling while not giving up too much driving enjoyment. Cadillac packages the SRX in “collections” as opposed to trim levels. Our recent tester arrived sporting membership in the Premium Collection with AWD running gear and very stylish new-for-2012 bright finish 20-inch aluminum wheels. A tire inflation kit replaces the spare tire. Occupants are bathed in luxury with leather surfaces everywhere and ventilated and heated seats and this year the heated steering wheel is thrown in although that is one item we did not have the opportunity to test as summer was heading into extra innings. A large 8-inch touchscreen is at the center of the dash as well as your infotainment world inside the SRX and nearly all-physical adjustments in the crossover Caddy are power-assisted. Should the scenic view switch from the side windows

to overhead; the SRX has that covered thanks to the Ultraview power sunroof. Our test model also featured a dual screen rear seat entertainment system with its own DVD player and wireless headphones. The SRX seats five in comfort and offers ample space in the rear for storage that includes a movable cargo fence with additional cargo space available under the cargo floor for total concealment. Pricing for the 2012 Cadillac SRX begins around $35 grand for a base model with our loaded AWD Premium Collection tester coming in at $51,055. Fuel economy from the new SIDI 3.6 is 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway.

Gaming in Today’s Economy: How to Get the Most Bang For Your Buck The fact that we are living in a tough economic time is no mystery. Prices for games and systems have always been high. However, that sixty dollars that you’re about to throw down on a game may not have come as easy as it did in the past. So what do you do? How do you choose the right game? While the answer may seem like a no-brainer, many people forget to do their research. The game that you expected to buy on day one may have changed drastically from the first preview that you read in a magazine or on a website. If we continue to buy games at these prices, regardless of their quality, we are essentially saying to developers, “We don’t care about the quality!” when, in fact, we
care very much. Before buying a game, make sure the developer is one you are familiar with. Secondly, ask yourself, “Will I play this game again once I have beaten it?” Many games – the Call of Duty franchise immediately comes to mind – have near-limitless replay value, making the choice easier for some. But if you’re not sure, borrow the game or rent it. Our money is too valuable these days to be traded for an inferior product. Presented By: AlmostNerdy.com Release Your Inner Nerd

The CLOSER
FAREWELL TO “AMERICA’S FAVORITE GROUCH-IN-CHIEF”
Blasphemy Brewed by: Weyerbacher Brewing Company ABV: 11.80% This 750ml brew will punch you in the face and you’ll love it! The pour is murky reddish brown in color with little to no head. The scents are strong with lots of fruit (figs, cherries and raisins). The complex taste encompasses the fruit, as well as, bourbon and vanilla due to the oak barrel aging. Low carbonation and full body aptly describe this brew. It’s definitely a sipping beer if there ever was one! Por Larranaga Valiosos Wrapper: Cuba Binder: Cuba Filler: Cuba Strength: Medium-Full This brand is making a comeback and is released in limited quantities. The construction of this cigar is exceptional and the coffee, cedar and tobacco aroma is pleasant. The initial flavors of spice and roasted coffee bean will be noticed. The first draw will be superb. There is nothing that can be done to improve the quality of this cigar. I never watched 60 Minutes on a weekly basis, but on the Sundays I did always made sure to tune in during the last 15 minutes to see what topic commentator t had to gripe about. It goes without saying that what made “America’s favorite grouch-in-chief,” as 60 Minutes correspondent Morley Safer called him in a tribute that aired October 2, so popular with viewers for over 30 years was how people identified with practically all the topics he talked about. “I obviously have a knack for getting on paper what a lot of people have thought and didn’t realize they thought,” Rooney was once quoted saying in a November 5, 2011 article by the Associated Press. “And they say, ‘Hey, yeah!’ And they like that.” When Rooney died November 4 at the age of 92 as a result of complications following minor surgery and practically a month after delivering his final essay on 60 Minutes, I immediately searched the Internet; YouTube and cbsnews. com for a few of those ‘Hey, yeah!’ moments that struck a few chords with me over the years. Rooney’s February 29, 2004 commentary about the number of movie trailers and needless advertising audiences are inundated with before the film ever starts was one segment I identified with. “Now, movie theaters have started doing something even worse to delay the start of the picture you just paid to see: They show actual commercials,” Rooney said. “Don’t they understand that’s what we go to a movie to get away from – commercials?” How true. Today the notion that a movie will actually start at 11:10 a.m. is like saying your doctor will see you at exactly the time of your scheduled appointment. I could go on and on about many of the subjects I agreed with him like his February 26, 2006 commentary on “Man’s Best Friend”, for example.
“I think dogs are more dependable. They make better friends than people make. Dogs don’t disappoint you the way your people friends do.” Every now and then Rooney had reason to be serious, if not celebrate, as when U.S. Navy Seals killed Osama bin Laden on May 2. “There have only been a few times in my life when someone’s death has been the occasion for rejoicing,” he said in his May 8, 2011 commentary. “The demise of Adolf Hitler was a good day for the world and a good day for me. The death of Osama bin Laden this week was that kind of day for the world.” I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part. When Rooney signed off 60 Minutes last month with his final 1,097 essay (it would have been great if he had left us with a nice even number of 1,100), I assumed despite his age that he would a year from now return with a brief commentary. Perhaps this one would be about “retirement” speaking from behind that walnut desk Rooney personally built himself and had placed in his CBS office which he spoke about in a December 6, 2005 column called “Andy’s Favorite Place.” He did after tell viewers he wasn’t retiring. “Writer’s don’t retire and I’ll always be a writer,” Rooney said. His passing may well be the moment view-
ers and colleagues have dreaded. Rooney’s final request to his television audience before signing off was “if you do see me in a restaurant, please, just let me eat my dinner.” Somewhere in the Heavens, Andy Rooney is doing just that having dinner with his best friend, Walter Cronkite. I suspect, for all eternity, he probably won’t ever have to worry about anyone interrupting his meal, except maybe God.

What was the purpose of creating AlmostNerdy.com? I originally started Almost Nerdy as a t-shirt idea. The name “Almost Nerdy” came from an idea I had to describe myself and a group of my friends. We are all pretty regular guys that aren’t you’re typical nerds but we enjoy nerdy things like sci-fi, comics, costuming, Star Wars, etc. The idea was that we were normal guys that were in touch with our nerd side, but I guess in all honesty, we’re 100% nerds. By the way, we have new content daily so check us out. When is the best time to release your inner nerd? There’s really not a bad time to release your inner nerd. They tell guys
that we need to get in touch with our feminine side; I think everyone needs to get in touch with their nerd side. It’s fun. What’s the most misunderstood thing about nerds? I’d say that nerds are people too. We don’t all think that the Force is real and we don’t all speak Klingon. We like nerdy things. It’s really no different than someone loving a sports team and wanting to watch all their games, wear their jerseys, and deck their house out in sports memorabilia. We support our favorites in the same way. Who wins in a bare-knuckle bar fight to the death between Wonder Woman or
Catwoman? Wonder Woman no contest. Wonder Woman’s super strength would over power Catwoman and her indestructible bracelets and lasso of truth would be no match for Catwoman’s whip. Which superhero would you say is the nerdiest? I’d have to say Spider-Man, only because of Peter Parker. Peter Parker is the quintessential nerd. He’s a shy teenage science-whiz who struggles with his own self-obsessions with rejection, inadequacy, and loneliness. He also had no mentor and had to learn on his own that with great power also comes great responsibility.
