I’m a millinery, fashion accessories and lighting designer from Jakarta, Indonesia. I was born in Medan in 1970 the third child and youngest in my family. I Graduated from high school in 1990 and started working as a sales person at Kim Thong, one of the first bridal designers in Indonesia selling tiaras. One day I was at the factory production and came across some tools like wires, acrylic and solder and started playing around with the tools. I experimented by making tiaras in the Victorian style. I started promoting my tiaras to different bridal designers and slowly started my own atelier producing millinery and haute accessories. My style is intricate, dramatic with an edge. For the past 20 years I have been focusing on collaboration with designers in the Indonesian fashion industry. In 2014, I decided it was time to spread my wings internationally and thus I decided to appoint an international fashion director and brand ambassador Faye Liu who is based in Hong Kong to promote my brand. I started collaborating with international celebrities on special projects and promoting my products overseas. I am pleased that my accessories are now sold to clients in the Middle East, China, Hong Kong and USA. My long term goal is to build Rinaldy A Yunardi into a luxury international lifestyle brand. I would like to leave a legacy for the Indonesian fashion industry spreading our work across the world and to nurture the new generation.

â€&#x;

The Collection is all about inner beauty, hence the faceless vision.

THE MODEL BEHIND THIS SHOOT IS GG. ALSO KNOWN AS @PLAAASTIC ON THE INTERNET. SHE IS A FASHION BLOGGER, PHOTOGRAPHER BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, A HUSTLER. SHE IS SOMEONE WHOM I REALLY LOOK UP TO A LOT. TILL TODAY I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE THAT I ACTUALLY GOT TO WORK WITH HER AND IT WAS DEFINITELY THE HIGHLIGHT OF 2016.

ASIA, FASHION For me, I’m all about perspective and I feel that Asia’s major role in fashion is to bring out a different perspectives and look into the fashion industry. FASHION, SPORE Minimal but bold. I live in a tropical country where it is summer all year around. Hence a lot of us tend to look out for clothes that packs a punch without excessive layering.

For the theme of the shoot I wanted to keep things simple whilst maintaining her signature grungy aesthetic. I didn’t really have to give her much direction as she is a natural at posing in front of the camera.

INSPIRATION Instagram. A lot of bloggers post their outfits there and it is a good platform to seek style ideas from. MY NAME IS LIONEL LIM, I’M A 19 YEARS OLD AND I AM A FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER BASED IN SINGAPORE. BESIDES DOING PHOTOGRAPHY I AM ALSO A FULL TIME FILM STUDENT FROM TEMASEK POLYTECHNIC.

Usually during my test shoots I would not have a stylist or makeup artist with me. But for this shoot I had a wardrobe stylist involved and had a bunch of clothes that had to be photographed. It definitely was an interesting experience.

My interest in photography started with my best friend. We would always conduct small little photoshoots together and back at that time I did not know what I was doing at all. Gradually, I realized how creative you can be with photography and fell in love with it.

As of currently I am working with modeling agencies and doing test shoots for their new faces. I’m really having a lot of fun doing that as I get to meet all sorts of people and work with some of the best faces in Singapore. One thing that I hope can happen in the near future would be that I would love to be on print or be represented by a talent agency.

A lot of people have mentioned that my style of photography is very similar to the European style. Personally I like to keep things simple and let the model be the main focus of the image.

I feel that Asia’s major role in fashion is to bring out a different perspectives and look into the fashion industry.

LAMDAGI MI SA MGA MAHITUNGOD SA IMONG KAUGALINGON?

Inspiration speaks to everyone at different octaves and I don’t perceive it as ever quite the same for you and I. Personally, I value the ordinary and simplistic fleeting moments that are muses for me. Jolene Lai. b1980. Currently based in Los Angeles. Studied painting at LASALLE College of the Arts, then graphic design at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA Extension).

With Asia rising as a new art hub, I could see it playing an important role in promoting the notion that not only successful and pioneer artists are important, but that the advocating for upcoming and vanguard art practitioners are equally vital and essential. This will not only emphasize what is already recognized, but also breathe a new form of creative energy into the art world.

GI UNSA NIMO PAGSUGOD SA PAGPANGLITRATO UG ASA NAGSUGOD IMONG INTEREST NI INI.

IHULAGWAY ANG INDUSTRY SA ART SA IMONG NASUD.

I am a single child whose playtime consisted of a lot of drawing on large pieces of paper laid on the floor. I remember wanting to be a comic illustrator when I was a kid. I guess my shy and introverted personality hindered me from joining the other neighborhood children who were playing outdoors.

Buzzing, flourishing and constantly evolving. ASA ANG MAAYONG LUGAR SA IMONG LUNGSOD KUNG DIIN MAKA KITA UG INSPIRASYON BAHIN SA FASHION UG ARTE?

I was often at home sketching with my dad or by myself. The act of drawing transports me to another plane where imagination and fantasy come to life. I think it is this specific nostalgia that I could not attain from non art related work, that creeps into my mind from time to time and eventually guiding me to where I am presently.

Singapore’s void decks. These are communal spaces that one can still find under some of the older apartment buildings in the country. It is a shared area that often stays vacant, but when occupied, could house events varying from wedding celebrations to funerals processions. I associate the void deck with a sense of absence and presence. When empty, it is an echo filled structure, with its supporting pillars casting long shadows on the cement ground. At times, it is a glimpsing window that offers a sliver of a stranger’s everyday.

My works are a documentation of interesting urban spaces which I artfully manipulate to form whimsical ‘playgrounds’ for the female characters I come up with. The characters incorporated into my paintings often lean towards the feminine. I find the body structure of a woman more sensual, alluring but yet fragile and vulnerable all at once and that is attractive to me. A friend once commented how much he hated loneliness yet cannot do without it. I didn’t quite understand this paradoxical statement he had made then, but in recent years found myself reflecting and relating to his thoughts. In some twisted way, this melancholy of mine manifested itself into the characters of my paintings. The figures often appear caught in a moment of reverie and silent in their musings.

creating works that pay a lot of attention to intricacies. The first theme I worked on for awhile was texture. Close up observations of tree barks, fabrics, cement, rusted surfaces, kept me fascinated for a long time. It was also the constant way I saw and painted various textures that led me to my style of painting (images that are composed of many random shapes of colors). Despite loving the abstract patterns that textures offered, I knew from the get-go that I had a deeper passion towards illustrative art that came with a bag load of whimsy. The longing for some form of whimsical narrative concept in my work eventually spurred me to experiment with the figurative. It was the idea of trying to marry illustrative figures I created with my style of painting that I derived where I am presently. ADUNA KA BAY UMAABOT NGA MGA PLANO?

Allegory was a solo exhibition held at Galerie Sogan & Art (Singapore) in 2012, which comprised of several oil on canvases that focused on subject matters strongly influenced by popular Chinese fairy-tales and myths. The essence of each mythological character’s origins were portrayed and reiterated in a vanguard manner. To quote some examples, featured in this series of works were characters like Meng Po (Lady of Forgetfulness), Zao Jun (Kitchen God), Chang’O (Goddess of the Moon) and Guan Yin (Goddess of Mercy). It was my intention to create a platform through this exhibition to invite viewers who might be curious about contemporary visual arts related to Chinese mythology.

My upcoming solo exhibition Beside You with Thinkspace Art Gallery, Los Angeles, which will take place beginning February 4th to February 25th. I have had a few solos with them in their project room, but Beside You will showcase a larger body of works consisting of 16 paintings. In addition, a complementing art installation will also take stage. This is a media that I am exploring for the first time, which will provide art supporters a refreshing viewpoint of my development as an artist. Everyone is invited. So if you enjoy art or just want to experience something you haven’t already tried, you should definitely mark those dates on your calendar.

UNSAON NIMO PAGHULAGWAY SA IMONG ISTILO SA PAGPANGLITRATO?

UNSA IMONG TUYOG TUMONG ISIP USA KA ARTIST?

Because the artworks I create lean toward tendencies of capturing particular moods and atmospheres, I would portray them as visual aesthetics that stir emotions or feelings that can only be personal and understood by the individual viewer. I think I am detail oriented by nature and that is what probably led me to first be intrigued with

I don’t know if there is an ultimate goal. I have a tendency to fidget and be restless, so ideals are always meandering. That plays alright for me because on the contrary, it is these twists and turns that help shape priorities. Hypotheticals - Don’t like them, don’t do them.

My real name is Dinh Hung but everybody know me under the name JinHoon, based in Saigon - Vietnam but almost my booking come from another countries ( Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Italia, Korea, China...). My work is not only styling work, i am an art director, casting director, photoshoot producer. My latest art work and casting is Runway Model Search Asia 2017 held in Malaysia.

The message of this editorial is that women can control everything, even love. The shoot is all about models. This is the very first time my editorial has many models who comes from different Asian countries. Heyyone from korea, Josh Yen and Danny woo from Malaysia, My Duyen from Vietnam. I love to work with asian models, for me they can deliver not only the perfect styling but also the true emotion via pose, feeling, eyes....

Fashion is my blood - when i was a child, i love to wear nice and took a picture with my family members. When i grew up, for living I’ve worked the hotel industry but one day I realised, I can’t waste my time anymore. it’s time to fight for something I really love. then I quit my boring job in a 5 star hotel and started a new chapter in my life.

Nowadays Asia’s major role has more and more developed in fashion. Because many Asias countries bring their own culture into fashion which make itself becomes unique and diverse. K- Fashion has proved that Asia can wow the world.

I began with posting and sharing all the fashion editorials on magazines I loved on facebook. And then, a young photographer asked me to join his team to do the photoshoot. This shot was all about male potrait with creative make up lay out. the images came out and we got a lot of good feedback. I had co-opreated with a lot of young photographer before i reached my #madeinvietnamteam. At first i worked without any fee, opportunity was just a learning time. I collected a lot of fashion magazines, fashion books from my friend or bought them myself. I was doing research on internet, fashion blogs, saving a lot of ideal concepts from famous photographer to my computer. Finally, i realise that I wanted to do something totally different to another stylist in Vietnam. I know k-culture wowed the world not only by music, drama series tv, but also in fashion. That’s why I want to bring our Vietnamese culture into fashion with a new vision, young and fresh. And it’s becoming the signature in my styling work.

Our fashion scene in my country is still young, but there’s none stop improvement. The young and talent fashion creators are working harder to show the world that Vietnam can have it’s own mark on the Asian fashion map.

Modern oriental is my style. I do love our culture so much, I love the energy of young people, love the lifestyle around me.... So I wonder how fashion shoots will be, if i bring it all into my concept. And I’ll become one of the very first stylists to introduce culture and lifestyle via a fashion vision.

My work is not only simple fashion stylist, I work as creative direction. My ultimate goal is with my #madeinvietnamteam - we can build up the professional agency where we can support Vietnamese models, creative talents and guide them to work as professional, make the clean Vietnamese media by their true talent not based on relationship at all.

i really don’t know another can find any inspiration but myself seek in vietnamese culture, human and lifestyle around me. Anything, anyone can be my inspiration and my styling work is based on that. Because of that makes me unique among art and stylist in vietnam. My exciting plan is create a my own art book which introduces all my styling work. I would love to introduce many talent models around Asia who i had the opportunity to work with, introduce about Vietnamese fashion and culture too. #supportlocalmodels #supportasianmodels are my main message in this art book.

The story of the “Bad Romance” editorial is all about love. The sexy styling leads to the dramatic love, it’s put in oriental place. The modern girls can choose her right man, the right man knows how to reach what the girls really wants.

RIN ISHIKAWA (25) TOKYO

ASIA, FASHION

With photography, I started doing photography because my dear Israeli friend whom I met in the Philippines told me “If you say, you are a photographer, you are a photographer” That’s how I became a photographer. If you are reading this and you want to do something, just have the courage to say “I am” It may be uncomfortable at first, but you start to realize how you shift your life “becoming” Therefore, believe in yourself first!

Asia’s major role in fashion is being brave in being vocal. Recently, people do not consume solely based on brand or quality. We consume on the message behind the product. We are being conscious consumers because we have the power and the information to determine how to wield that power. For instance, Nordstrom cut ties with Ivanka Trump’s brand because consumers consciously chose to not to support what she represents. People started deleting Uber application once consumers found out that what Uber represents are not aligned with what they support. Therefore, consumers are being more aware of their power to change the world by consciously choosing what to consume. This brings the importance in having a message. Hence, Asia’s major role in Fashion should be using their network in not only delivering fashion, but a message that unites and understand people.

I got into photography because I love body. I love how we all have one body, but we all have infinite ways in expressing ourselves. Is this not beautiful? Photography captures our infinity. My style, I would say, “surreal” “infinite”.

JAPAN, FASHION

The intent behind my art is for people to feel serene by feeling part of the world

My fashion scene in Japan is diverse. We love the extreme. We do not discriminate people who are dressed in what society labels “abnormal”.

I want people to feel loved because we are always been loved by the world. I want people to feel timeless because we fully live in the present of “now”. I hope my art reminds people to feel beautiful and complete because we are the amazing mother earth!

INSPIRATION, JAPAN Shibuya, Omotesando, Harajuku, Akihabara

I loved how our photoshoot was boundless; no judgement, but infused with love. It is natural and beautiful because it wasn’t fear / doubts/ ego based shoot. I hope our lives can be based more on love by consciously choosing to do so.

If possible, I want people to feel surreal and to feel there are so many possibilities out in the world if you look at different angles.

Sing from your heart and connect the dots.

SIYATH RANATHUNGE (24), COLOMBO.

FASHION, SRI LANKA

When I was working as a journalist it was interesting to discover photography side parallel to journalism. Starting as a photojournalist I soon discovered my passion for fashion photography.

As a country with a growing economy, the fashion industry is also shaping up with the global trends very rapidly. There’s a long way for Sri Lanka to go for it to become a fashion destination, but we can see it heading in that direction. More people than ever are conscious about fashion.

I like to photograph my subjects in a soft manner, bringing out their emotions and personality. However I believe my pictures are mostly emotion driven than personality driven.

INSPIRATION

The inspiration was driven from mixing up young upcoming designers and their view towards fashion along with the seniors in the industry.

Well, the ancient ruins which dates back thousands of years are very inspirational. They were filled with art from a different era.

I personally love the shoot for how it has variation in fashion and in scenes. The location had so much variety it was stunning to shoot there.

NEXT

ASIA, FASHION I think Asia was exposed to the fashion industry later compared to rest of the world. But Asia is full of culture and can shape the industry in it’s own way. That’s what I believe what Asia is going to bring to the fashion industry - the culture and history which is quite unique to Asia.

There are quite a few shoots lined up, parallel to colombo fashion week. Most exciting plan for the future would be to travel the world in summer and take pictures of most beautiful women and most talented fashion designs. I believe in myself as an artist. So I’d love to focus on my work to be memorable for generations to come.

Life isn’t fair. The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.

Asia is the light and salt of the art world. It’s one thing that makes me proud of being an Asian artist actually. Looking at its historical background like Japan (which I really love), it’s just deeply rooted with so many arts. I’m not a credible person to talk about history but I guess those ancient Western explorers must have been really amazed by how artistic Asia has been during their visit and possibly brought with them a slice of Asia upon returning to their respective countries. So I believe that Asia has long been an inspiration and heart of the art realm since the beginning of time.

INSPIRATION It’s anywhere outside the four walls of your bedroom. It still depends on the artist though. For my photography, it would be somewhere isolated and rural. I’d love to go places where I think people have never been. Though I’ve never done this yet but it’s always been my desire to go to places like the mountains of North Luzon where people’s lives are pure and basic or even the so-called danger zone at the outskirts of Mindanao. I believe these people deserve to get their stories heard.

ART

MY NAME IS KEVIN LENDIO, 23 YEARS OLD. I’M CURRENTLY IN ETHIOPIA DOING VOLUNTARY WORK AT AN INSTITUTION AND ALSO HELPING OUT MY SISTER AND HER FAMILY IN DOING MISSIONS HERE. I ATTENDED THE UNIVERSITY OF SAN CARLOS IN CEBU CITY. IT’S WHERE I HAD A FORMAL INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY AS IT WAS A PART OF OUR CURRICULUM IN ADVERTISING ARTS. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, I DID MY OWN EXPLORATION.

Honestly, it’s a shame that I can’t say much about my own country’s art. But one thing I love about Philippines is its being diverse and open to so many ideas. It’s the paradise for artists who wish to do more and not experience a hint of boundaries that would limit them to explore their own craft. I would say it still goes back to our history because we’ve been influenced by various cultures but, even though, we still managed to maintain our own identity as crafters.

I take photos of moments and daily lives of people in every place that I’ve visited. It’s the bona fide state of humans that really catches my fancy.

97 blnc-mag.com

I was in high school when I got my first phone with a camera. It wasn’t the best but I was amazed by the awesome feature it has which is the “macro” where I can sort of like imitate a DSLR blur effect in the background, you know, the depth of field. It just amazed me that I started taking photos of random things around the house like a basketball ring or a doorknob, or a fly on the table. So yeah, it was a fun and memorable start. Thanks to my late Samsung E590!

This place is dangerous...” and all that stuff. Like my first travel to Vietnam, people told me how angry and aggressive these Vietnamese could get (clearly I know where this imagery comes from – the Vietnam War). So I went anyway. Yet honestly, it got me afraid. Then I realised it was not true at all. In fact, it’s where I got one of the best moments and friends I’ve had. So it’s the fear factor that other people or even you are trying to inject in your mind that could limit you to move forward. I learned that where there is fear, there is no love. You don’t want to be that kind of artist who only picks the cherry. Go take that durian! We’re supposed to be the ones to see the good in everything.

My center is always the people, life and culture. It’s what I believe that makes this world beautiful. It’s the same uniqueness of every country that drives people to buy a ticket and cross the seas. I take photos of moments and daily lives of people in every place that I’ve visited. It’s the bona fide state of humans that really catches my fancy. I want to take photos of simple events that tell a bit of their story.

FUTURE I’m praying to get back to school this year! Hoping to finally get the decision from a foreign university where I’ll be taking Visual Journalism. It’s nerve-racking and exciting! But yeah, it’s worth the wait. I need this for a head start before moving on to the real game.

Watching documentaries always inspire me. The boldness of international correspondents and visual journalists are like fuels that make me go “Just do it!” Photographers like Timothy Allen, Steve McCurry and Kevin Carter just to name a few of the many good photographers that I find very motivating.

My ultimate goal as a photographer is to take that one shot that could change the world (haha). But to be realistic, I just want to get to that level of maturity where my photos could do more than just speak a thousand words but also move a thousand lives, or more.

It’s just the funny thought that before I get to visit a new place, I always get warnings from people like “Hey Kevin, you should be careful.

OTHERS MAY SEE MY WORK AS “DARKNESS & SADNESS”. MY WORK HAS A HINT OF MIXED VIOLENCE AND SADNESS. I CREATE WORKS INSPIRED BY EVERYTHING IN MY LIFE.

Fashion in Thailand is multicultural. The community has an identity unique and influenced by another country cultural, fanaticism the artist and the culture of technology in this moment. Become to diverse cultures and charming of Interest.

My name is Pisuto Srisuwan (25). My friends call me “James”. I’m a photographer based in Bangkok. I graduated at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi. I participated in Thailand Photography Contest (2012), L’Officiel Thailand, New Talents Fashion Advertising contest (2013), Nylon Thailand, Your Own Private Issue contest (2013) and I have been working as a photographer at Billboard Thailand & The Hollywood Reporter Thailand.

So Thailand is multicultural. You can see fashion in everything, like the street fashion at Chatuchak market and Siam area. There are lots of teenage’s street fashion things going on by young designers. And you can find the Chinese influence in China Town. This shoot is inspired by by the stories of the new Asian generation growing up in Chinese families. They return to live in, but life has changed to the technology age.

The first time I got interested in documentary photography, I focused on portraits. I like the diversity in people’s emotions. The most interesting thing I find in fashion photography is working with other people: the outcome is this composition of the work of such a diverse set of people. All photographers have rules, perhaps it’s just inexplicable: the final image is the identity, the character of the photographer. The emotional, tone of the visual elements, style clothing, hair and makeup, almost everything communicates together.

I find that most of my inspiration comes from music, cinema and surrealism art, combined with the aptitude for retouching and an interest in in fashion. This became my my style. I like to find new inspiration to apply to my work. In the future, I will develop and study my craft more. For this time I focus on expanding my work. In the future, I’m not sure if I will be a famous fashion photographer or not. But now I feel happy while I’m working. One day I hope I can tell everyone that I can do it. I don’t care what anybody thinks. I will do the best in my life, my dream will come truth. That is the ultimate goal of my life.

Each continent has it’s own identity in its approach in fashion. Asia’s uniqueness is with it’s rich multicultural background infused with the modernity of fashion, Asia has rich heritage in its fashion. Each country have their own signature style. Countries like Thailand is known for its silk which is elaborated and decorated with jewellery in their traditional outfits and can be seen inspired in many of the designs in the present day.

The secret of success in life is to be ready for your opportunity when it comes. 107 blnc-mag.com

Miguel Alomajan is from Manila, Philippines “I don’t have any formal studies in Photography nor in Fashion, I just love to read magazines, I remember I stole the first magazine that I read that really opened my eyes in fashion. Ever since then I loved fashion”.

FASHION, PHILIPPINES The fashion scene in The Philippines, I believe its getting there, we are getting there, social media played the biggest part that made us see the world on a computer, we got more competitive than before though I must say there are a lot of spaces to fill in but slowly we will get there.

It started when i was in junior high when I joined (I had no choice) a photo contest, entering the contest with a borrowed camera and realised it wasn’t that bad. So from doing paintings i shifted to do photography. My style, I will say its relatable, I don’t want to “box” it with technical terms but my works mainly produced by experiences and inspirations. I wanna show how strong typography is to an editorial set, it’s like giving a statement and power to the clothes.

INSPIRATION I always seek inspiration through geometric places and unconventional art, my first love is mixed media and I always incorporate it on my shoots.

IF ITS NOT SELL-ABLE, IT IS NOT A GOOD PHOTO - YOU ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS YOUR LAST PERFORMANCE.

I really love paper coutures and typography, in this set I got fascinated with the texture of the teared paper with a Korean characters on it. It’s Korean because my model is Korean, it’s awkward if i put Chinese characters, i think that’s the memorable part :)

I want to explore and find opportunities abroad, I did a shoot in Hongkong and its a whole different kind of experience, I loved it.

ASIA, FASHION

The goal is to always express my own vision on a certain project, because its like inserting and transporting your art to life vise versa. At the end of the day I wanna say its mine.

In terms of culture & discipline, philosophy and aesthetics, a good example is the hand writing, its very distinct and creative, it has its soul and it moves.

The fashion scene in The Philippines, I believe its getting there, we are getting there.

I cannot forget what I see, a beautiful and sexy woman appearing in a uncoordinated house. Shabby rooms, leaking toilet, cockroaches wandering in the kitchen, the bedroom is under ten square meters, the room can only accomodate a bed and two simple wardrobe. On the streets, rubbish was spilling over.

One would not associate such a dump together with a movie star, but in reality this is her residence _ because she has yet to become famous. 虽然得过奖,但奖项没有带来太多好处。幸运之神没有 降临,最终还是挨家找经纪公司,希望有个机会。 While the film has won an award, it did not bring much material benefit. The god of luck did not appear, eventually an agent was found, hoping for the better. When there is a film to be made it was routine coming home early in the morning, and on an empty stomach, but more frightening is that when there is no flim to shoot, often idling for months, sometimes a year, during which finding a job to sustain life is the only option. Without much acting experience the income is very low. How nice it is to change all the branded possessions to money, the will to buy a Louis Vuitton bag is gone. Buying a dress for a few dollars is now a joy. Destruction of a dream is in sight. Sticking to the dream could mean an empty stomach, but ultimately there is compromise. To lay down one’s favorite art, to do that which is scorned upon. The opportunity is gone, and the chance, and surprises too.

In the end, to lay down one’s dream, to bow to reality.

JOHN YUYI (25) TAIPEI, SHIH CHIEN UNIVERSITY FASHION DESIGN. EXHIBITIONS IN NYC, PARIS & TAIPEI.

ASIA, FASHION provide a different culture scene to major fashion world.

At the beginning I just thought it was a fun post, I was selling the temporary tattoos, I made them into a pattern, and then I started my swimsuit collection and I did a temporary tattoo post about social media to promote my page. Then in NYC I did a project called “face post”, just for fun with my friend, and then it became more and more serious. It became a series.

TAIWAN, FASHION small market. taiwanese style. and low pay. difficult to survive. INSPIRATION Fashion inspiration... i think still on instagram, hahaha.

AV I was in Tokyo. and I was pretty productive. and I never shot a guy, and I’m very into Japanese culture. And porn industry is famous. So I wanted to shoot a theme about the girls in AV industry. and I wanted to put the image on a guy.

NEXT secret <3 I’m looking forward too! And also I wanna do a project about “face”. GOAL

NOODLE PIERCINGS

Just getting used to the fact that people call me an artist. So I don’t know yet.

When I saw the instant noodles on the table, I came up with that idea. so basically my ideas are from my daily life and observation.

CHARGER SHOELACES

The idea of charger shoelaces project is when I was taking subway in NYC and I was watching the guy’s shoes sitting in front of me.

I am a 26 year old oil and mixed media artist named Lauren Hana Chai. I’m originally from Hawaii, went to art school in San Francisco, received a couple awards from AAU’s annual Spring Show, and have shown in exhibitions in numerous cities in California and Texas. I am currently living in Austin, Texas but I’M returning to my home, Hawaii, is in the near future. I THINK ASIA’S MAJOR ROLE IN ART IS TO PRESERVE AND CONTINUE TO SHARE THEIR CULTURE, AND NOT JUST SHARE THEIR PAST BUT ALSO THE PRESENT AS IT IS EVER CHANGING AT A FAST SPEED. MANY ASIAN COUNTRIES ARE NATIONALISTIC SO KEEPING THOSE CULTURES ALIVE, EXPRESSING THE PEOPLE OF THOSE SOCIETIES AND CONNECTING AND SHARING IT WITH THE WORLD SEEMS LIKE THE MAJOR ROLE FOR ASIAN ART IN MY OPINION. The USA has a large mix of art, just as the people here are all mixed together. NY of course is top in the contemporary modern art scene, the west likes things a bit more conservative. Within all of the country you could find some beautiful art by immigrants or kids of immigrants, as well as some amazing art of Americana. I started drawing ever since I could hold a pencil, really. It was a form of escapism and expression as communicating through art was always much easier for me than speaking. I did a lot of Photoshop paintings when I was in high school, and originally studied Illustration for 3 years, until I decided that I’d rather create art that I wanted to create instead of what a client tells me to. UNLESS I’M INTERESTED, IT JUST DOESN’T COME OUT RIGHT! The mixed media brings together different elements which is a reflection of my identity, a clash of traditional and modern, eastern and western. I paint issues such as taboo, feminism, sexuality, violation and oppression. I also explore the abstract Korean cultural innate trait called “Han”. Aesthetically it is brightly colored, collage style work.

The Artifact Series is about using traditional items such as the hanging scrolls or the folding screen and painting my modern day interpretation. The hanging scrolls show the juxtaposition of the traditional representation of the Asian female with the modern day interpretation. All the models are my friends that I know personally in order to have their identity represented as an Asian American woman of today and capture the essence of who they are beyond their heritage. The folding screen which is called byungpoong in Korean is used as a part of a ritual honoring one’s dead ancestors. I took this and painted Korean comfort women who are the women and young girls who were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese imperial army before and during WWII. Most of the women were from occupied countries in Korea, China and the Philippines as well as some occupied territories. This painting is to honor the comfort women, keeping their story alive and told. I will be making a video art of myself actually performing the ritual with this screen in the future. This series was an experimentation as I’ve never worked with building these scrolls or fans or screens before. I’m not used to being an exacting person which is a very important skill to have in making these things so it was very difficult for me. It made me have an even greater appreciation for the artists who have and do create these actual artifacts as it is a beautiful craft that requires years of practice. MY NEW SERIES IS AN EMBODIMENT OF EVERYTHING THAT I PAINT INTO ONE. THE TRADITIONAL KOREAN ASPECTS WITH THE EROTICISM, THE “HAN” AS WELL AS ABOUT MY MOTHER WHO IS CURRENTLY MISSING. IT INVOLVES COLLAGE, MANY MANY LAYERS AND MORE ABSTRACT MARKS AS THIS IS A REFLECTION OF WHO I AM, MY IDENTITY IN THIS MODERN SOCIETY.

This paintings is to honor the comfort women, keeping their story alive and told. 149 blnc-mag.com

MY DRAG NAME IS “MISS MIDLEVELS“, IT’S THE PLACE WHERE I’ AM RESIDING IN HONGKONG, IM A MAKEUP ARTIST BY DAY AND JUST BEING MYSELF AT NIGHT, AND A DRAG QUEEN IN SPECIAL EVENTS.

When I used to live in the Middle East, where being a gay is considered a crime, we still did drag on a special event like birthday parties of holidays. But we did it inside a private place, like hotels or someone’s apartments. One time while the party was on going, we got a bit too noisy and the neighbours reported it to the police and the cops came to inspect. We were so nervous and we removed our make up in 2 mins. We could have gone to jail if we got caught.

Honestly, there’s a fifty shades of drag , and it doesn’t just limit to the LGBT community , I know women and straight men who do drag, its the way to have fun but there are what we called “professional drag queens“, which they do it for a living, in my case being in drag is not just my way of escaping reality but it also allowed me to create a fantasy and visualised a dream, In my own way the process of doing drag is my transcendental meditation, it calms me, and Its a journey to me inner self and embracing who I am unconditionally.

FASHION & ART in HONGKONG Its Massive! Its fast moving, you need to be in season with your fashion! Hongkong is the NewYork of Asia pacific! Art is great too! There’s a Hongkong art week and Art Basel in march and a lot of galleries and one of the biggest galleries in Europe and US has a branch in Hongkong so we got to see some famous paintings.

I have been doing it for a long time, since I was residing in Cebu, but I didn’t know the term ‘drag queen” I used to perform in small towns and fiesta, and I stopped and focused with my professional career. Since I arrived in Hongkong I found my tribe of dragqueens, then and I didn’t know it was a huge and celebrated community. It is fun and exciting .

NEXT I’m in the process of creating a drag dance album, were are recording right now and we will do music videos hopefully. Well I’m just keeping this as it is, as long as I’m still having fun.

In my own way the process of doing drag is my transcendental meditation, it calms me, and Its a journey to me inner self and embracing who I am unconditionally.

IT WAS MY FATHER WHO GOT ME INTERESTED IN PHOTOGRAPHY. HE JUST GAVE ME ONE OF THOSE KODAK KROMA CAMERA FOR MY FIRST OUTSTATION SCHOOL TRIP & I REALLY GOT HOOKED TO IT. HE GAVE ME ONE FILM ROLL AND ASKED ME TO BE VERY SELECTIVE ABOUT WHAT PICTURES I WOULD TAKE AND NOT GO ABOUT TAKING PICTURES OF ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING.

Case in point being Rei Kawakubo, Issey Miyake, Manish Arora, Kenzo Takade, Dai Fujiwara, Yohji Yamamoto, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Junya Watanabe, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Guo Pei, Xander Zhou. The list is endless. Even Asian designers based in the west have a very unique sense of fashion which have made them famous around the world. We’re all familiar with Jimmy Choo, Vera Wang, Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung, Naeem Khan, Phillip Lim, Nicola Formichetti, Elie Saab etc and their breathtaking work.

Although I partially listened to him and went on to use three film rolls on that trip, I didn’t do half as bad as he thought I would and that was all the encouragement I would need.

INDIA, FASHION

I don’t think I have a style yet, as my photography is still evolving. But I do have preferences when it comes to doing a shoot. I love using natural light, I love shooting outdoors & I love photographing men & sooner than later I want to completely dedicate my time to photographing men and shooting menswear designers.

Appreciation of fashion and design and those creative minds behind a collection has grown immensely in the past few years in India. We looked towards western fashion for inspiration and wanted clothes from those designers about 2 decades back, but that is barely the case now. While we take extreme pride in our culture & tradition and that reflects in the garments designed by designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Ritu Kumar, Tarun Tahiliani etc, there’s also a new wave of designers who are responding to the consumers constant need, of something new, with bold, fresh & quirky designs. Huemn by Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty, NorBlack NorWhite, Masaba Gupta, Kanelle, Anavila, Shift by Nimish Shah, Miuniku, Bodice by Ruchika Sachdeva, DRVV by Dhruv Kapur, 11.11 CellDSGN, Karleo by Karan Berry and Leon Vaz, Sailex, Ka Sha by Karishma Shahani Khan, Lovebirds are a few (or maybe a lot) of my favorite new brands.

My friend Vona and me just wanted to do a playful, colorful shoot combining textures and textiles which would say India but in a cool way. The entire team was left stranded after the third look as we had to move from the location we were previously at. So mid-shoot, half the team started walking around to look for a new location to park all our stuff. And it was a hot, sunny day. After a couple of makeshift locations we finally found a friend who lived in that area who allowed us to use his space for changes. It was a nightmarish one hour before we resumed the shoot. Definitely taught the entire team a thing or two about production planning.

I personally feel that the north eastern part of our country is a brilliant place to get inspiration from. There’s a whole lot of culture & a whole lot of flora & fauna packed in those seven states and it feels like a little universe of its own.

ASIA, FASHION I feel Asia brings a certain level of creativity to the global platform in terms of design and technique that the rest of the world strives to match.

May sound really cliched, but I really believe in the saying of ‘Live & Let Live’

Live and Let live!

ASIA, FASHION

My interest in photography started to breed in my college era. I went to this photography class once in a week. There was where I started to learn the basic of photography and how to manually control my camera.

Culture. For my own opinion, culture plays a vital role in Asian’s daily life so does in photography. Each of the country in Asia has very distinctive culture and history of their own. Everything in our life is pooled with culture. Works, News, Networks, Foods, Technology, Education, Family and Friends. It’s an invisible system that has been builded into Asian.

Before I step into this career, I took 2 months to do backpacking around South East Asia. Where I went, I take photos; Where I stopped, I take photos. My camera been witnessed the beauty of Mother Nature with me. After the 2months trip, I decided to fully focus in photography instead of doing design.

MALAYSIA, FASHION To be frank that fashion scene in my country is remaining cliche. I can hardly find a primitive fashion brand in Malaysia even some of them acknowledged that they are. But in fact, we’ve seen the same concept and design few months ago from the other country. It’s kind a sad that people in our country is acting fuddy-duddy to fashion. Their fashion inspiration always come from those famous influencer from social media instead of wearing the style that fits them well.

I’m a visual storyteller. My pictures capture story in a painting way. You have to talk to the people and understand how’s the concept goes and how you gonna draw their story in your picture. 貳零壹柒 means 2017 in Chinese. It’s a shoot that combining oriental with edgy high fashion’s wardrobes. Which shows the contrast between western and eastern yet the harmony of balancing these two styles.

INSPIRATION This is a very subjective question tho. Different kind of personal get inspired at different places. For me, I love to travel around to get for inspiration. You will never get to see different things and hear different stories if you’re being stationed at one spot.

During this shoot, I kept adding strange props on to the model. It literally confused the team but eventually the pictures turned out really good with those props. I might say it complete the whole story/picture. Thanks to the team for such great work on this shooting. Everything is just on point. They the greatest team I ever work with.

I would like to explore more direction in fashion photography. In fact, I’ve started to work on some fashion videos in terms of directing and video shooting. Hopefully it helps on bringing my career into another stage in photography.

I feel Asia’s major role in fashion is plain advertising. In Asia, it is not so much on the art and storytelling but its more about how do you sell the brand in a commercial way. The fashion scene in my country tilts towards fashion commercial. A good place to seek inspiration I would say is NYC, as most of the direction comes from NYC. I’m mostly self taught but i did learn a fair bit from my photography master. It started by pure chance: from a simple test shoot for 2 of my korean model friends which led to me doing more photoshoots. However, my interest actually only peaked 1 and half year after that shoot. My style: Raw, sensual, moody. ULTIMATE GOAL AS A FASHION PHOTOGRAPHER To be a celebrity photography like Chen Man. To do an photo biography (More of like a journey, her route to stardom) for a good friend of mine (artiste).

To experience, to learn and to grow. Not just as a photographer but as a creative.

LISA MAM X PEAP TARR Lisa: I got into Street Art from mainly hanging out with Peap, I was inspired by Street Art in Paris when I was younger and I would see it all the time when I was visiting family there, but when I really started to paint on the streets in Phnom Penh city was with Peap, and we just keep painting together because of our styles really complimented each other and our personalities clicked it is like Yin and Yang and than eventually we got married haha. Peap: Haha Yes Lisa and I found love for one another through Street Art, I guess its very romantic haha. It is also us wanting to visually explore and express our culture to the world through the influences of urban culture we grew up with as well which is heavily the elements of Hip Hop culture. For myself I really got into graffiti as a teenager growing up between Australia and New Zealand where I was born in Auckland City but later on as I got older, I really wanted to communicate part of my culture which is part Cambodian and Part New Zealand so I fused the two together and come up with my own style of painting which I kept painting on the streets with my friends who were doing straight up Letters and combining my elements with their elements. Peap: When I came back over to Cambodia, Lisa and I met by a chance meeting through some friends and immediately we connected and we started our Street Art Adventures together and now we are Married haha Lisa: Both our style really do compliment each other since both Peap and I are inspired greatly by our Cambodian heritage and with Peap his Khmer and New Zealand heritage combined, I would say Peap is very masculine the way he paints since his art work is very bold with much thicker lines than mine where as my art work is much more feminine and I

love to work on intricate details, so we both bounce of each others styles and bring into one combined piece which sometimes people think its just one artist painting. It is very easy working with Peap since he is very adaptive to my approach of painting and I would have to say vice versa, I guess this is what makes us a great team. Sometimes Peap will spend time filling in the colours and I focus on the line work. Another time I’ll work on a new area and Peap will focus on the line work, it is like weaving in and out of each others work. Painting in the Maldives was one of the most amazing experiences both Peap and have done so far with our art. The owner of Kuramathi Island Resort in the Maldives invited us; he had seen our art through an Architectural Firm called Harper Architecture who we have done several smaller projects with in the past. Harper Architecture was working on some of the Architectural and interior designs on Kurmathi, they were working on a new section of the Island and the owner of Harper Architecture “Peter Harper” showed our art to the owner of Kuramathi Island Resort and he loved what we do, so soon we connected and worked out a budget and we were flown over to the Maldives and spent almost a month on Kuramathi painting. Some people think we may have just been taking our time because we were on a beautiful island but actually we painted everyday 7 days a week under the sun but we are not complaining at all since the owner of Kuramathi and all his staff treated us very very well, one of the best times we have ever had, doing what we love and surrounded by one of the most beautiful environments in the world. We put in a big effort into painting large Mural for Kuramathi; the main inspiration for our art in the Maldives is Ocean and the sea life surrounding us on Kuramathi Island Resort.

We just want to have peace in our life and keep creating our art and exploring the world with our art and spreading good vibes.

ASIA, FASHION

NEXT

Asia right now, as I see it and feel it is becoming a true destination for people from around the world to not only visit and holiday but a place where creative people and not just business types are able to thrive and survive creatively whether they be in the field of architecture, arts, music, film production fashion etc. It feels as though Asian creative people who were once inspired by the west are finding their own sense of identity and pushing their culture to the forefront, creating trends that the West is attracted to, this is how I see Asia’s major role in Fashion and all things creative.

This year has already started with some really cool projects in the works, which I’m going to have to keep on the hush for now haha but one that I’m working on right now which I’m truly excited about involves an international fashion label which will be out soon so keep up to date via my ig account www. instagram.com/mam_lisa_mam/ Plus Peap and I have some large mural projects that will be happening sometime this year as well. In Terms of art shows we really want to create a truly unique show which we are also working on , so we are both keeping very busy , we hardly go out anywhere much at the moment.

CAMBODIA, FASHION Cambodia right now is starting to become the new boom town or so we are told, but I do feel there is a creative surge in the atmosphere since both my husband Peap Tarr and I have been living good from our art ventures, one project leads to another, it is truly a great blessing. I’m also staring to see younger artist in their teen and early 20’s also starting to find ways of making a business out of their art, so I would say the future is looking bright for the Art community in Cambodia.

GOAL Our ultimate goal as artist is to really live a good life and travel the world painting, meeting cool people, enjoying good food and drinks plus spreading Peace Love, Happiness and Unity through our art, I know it sounds dreamy, but that truly is what we love to do and plan to keep doing. MANTRA

INSPIRATION

I guess its very similar to what I just mentioned haha but we just want to have peace in our life and keep creating our art and exploring the world with our art and spreading good vibes.

One of the places that has inspired both Peap and I would have to be our Ancient capital Siem Reap which is Angkor Wat and all the surrounding ancient structures built around Angkor, this a place our ancestors built not only was it once a great empire in South East Asia but the intricate designs and details carved onto the walls of the Temples are simply beautiful and ever inspiring for us and many future generations.

FASHION, ASIA The major role of Asia in fashion is a mystery. Based on history and culture, we have many different elements to apply in the arts, clothing, photography and fashion. The mysterious parts of Asia are less to be seen in western fashion and that’s why western fashion has been tracing these for several years.

When I was a student, I studied mechanical engineering. I transferred to Shanghai for my second job. While I was in Shanghai, I used to look around the old parts of Shanghai and watch people’s lives in old alleys. Since that time, I brought a camera and my photography life got started from that moment onwards.

FASHION, TAIWAN

As a photographer, I like to keep things staying at natural and un-staged as possible as I can. I like the postures of the walking cycle, always! So I did not think too much before shooting this set, I just found three models to walk in the city with me and wear a coat. The shooting day was quite hot, autumn in Taiwan always comes late. I worked with sweaty models that day.

Fashion in Taiwan has been influenced greatly by the western world, as well as by Japanese, Korean and Chinese culture. Due to historical reasons, we forgot to pay attention to our own culture in the past, so you see copied styles all around Taiwan. But in the last 5 years, we started to focus on our own culture, so now we’re finding our own style in fashion back.

I am planning a set of shooting for makeup, hair art and clothing about traditional Taiwanese opera this year. In my mind, fashion photography is not only beautiful but also natural and cultural, close to life at the same time.

INSPIRATION City streets and mountain rivers.

As a photographer, I like to keep things staying at natural and un-staged as possible as I can.

People know me, not just in Thailand but all around Asia! I have friends from different countries now. I’ve been working with Storm Model Management in London. I got more jobs, meet famous people and do things that I’ve never done before. Now, I can say that I’m a model.

EVEN THE SMALLEST THINGS CAN BE SUCCESSFUL TO ME: SOME FOOD THAT I’VE NEVER HAD BEFORE, PLACES THAT I’VE NEVER BEEN BEFORE OR A JOB THAT I’VE NEVER DONE BEFORE. BUT TODAY I DO IT! THIS, TO ME, IS HAPPINESS. THIS IS SUCCESS. I ALWAYS TRY NEW THINGS THAT I’VE NEVER DONE BEFORE. I WANT TO KNOW MYSELF BETTER. WHAT I CAN DO? IS THIS RIGHT FOR ME OR NOT?

HOW For me it’s quite simple: sleep on time, drink a lot of water, do exercise, eat fruits and vegetables, take vitamins, think positively and maintain good friendships with everyone. I’m a person who appreciates the little things that come in my life, this then make me happy and healthy. The thing is: you have to be beautiful from inside to outside! I can’t swim, My ear on one side is bigger than the other and I’m quite a impatient person: I always go out. I love working more than staying at home. My favourite moment is when they announced that I had won Asia’s Next Top Model. My greatest achievement is I can help my family by doing what I love.

I still want to learn how to dance and sing. It started when I was young. I’m tall. I wanted to join the competition. All of my friends said I had what it took to be a model. They all supported me. And I really wanted to be a model so bad. I joined the model competition in Thailand. The agency asked me to work with them. I said yes.

I have one little younger sister. She is 8 years old. You know, we talk almost everyday. Sometime she asks me to teach her homework and she want to tell me about what she been doing. She always says “I miss you so much sis! When you gonna come home?”. It always make me cry, when I’m far away from my family. It makes me miss them and love them more than ever.

I decided to not study in University because my family had financial problems. I didn’t want to make it worse. I wanted to help them and make my dream come true.

The things that keep me excited is when I go casting. I have no idea if I’m gonna get job or not: I just keep waiting for the agency to email me. If I got it I’ll be so happy and excited. Clients always surprise me.

Then I won the Asia’s Next Top Model. It’s really amazing to became someone. I’m so happy.

My name is Noah PK Chen, I am based in Shenzhen now. I studied photography in KIAD, UK. There I got some domestic awards but I don’t think it’s worth mentioning. The greatest achievement for me.... To earn enough photography fee in order raise my 3 boys, hire and employee and in the end still have some extra money left to do my own experiments.

Steve Meisel, you can see he excels in all different styles of photography. I guess I am following his route. I don’t want to limit my work on certain style. However, friends are saying my work has its certain own style that I can’t recognise. MADE IN CHINA More than 80% of clothes and shoes are manufactured in Asia. I guess this is the basic fact that no one could deny.

I wanted to be a ornithologist when I was a teenager. In the beginning, I was taking pictures of bird, insects and some other wildlife. During that period of my life, I lived in a country called “Belize” in Central America. My high school art teacher loved my work, he encouraged me to explore photography further. He even held an exhibition for me in his art gallery. (By the way, he was the son of the county’s party leader, 10 yrs later he become the Minister of Culture and Education).

Independent designer’s era is coming, the young generation is getting very aware of what do they want. China soon will surpass the US and become the largest fashion market in the world. Shanghai Fashion Week will surpass Milan Fashion Week within a decade. So, who knows where the next fashion capital will be. China is a huge country. I guess a lot people would pick Shanghai or Beijing. For me, I would say Dali, Yunnan. It is a historical town consist with many different ethnic groups in the South-West part of China.

My clients always give me a lot of challenge on different fields and topics. My idol is
