“Circus” (2020) show us a collection of sensual and surreal photos inspired by the work of Guy Bourdin. There’s a kind of drama about Rodríguez´s work, and a sexuality about his images. The characters of Circus who are trapped in their own love affair, pose to the camera with elegance and self-confidence in a nature context. They are fresh and vivid representations where you can breathe the sexual tension between the protagonists. Thus, the man is represented as a beau who courts a lady with a beautiful and voluptuous body, and she becomes the daring cause of the inspiration. There’s a certain sort of artifice to the work of David Rodríguez and the way he uses to light the scenes, because his lighting creates kind of a dreamscape.

IAN INOY I’m Ian Inoy, a multi-disciplinary artist from the Philippines whose works focuses on marine and aquatic patterns and figures. The main goal of my art is environmental awareness and protection specifically marine life. I’ve been really fond of life underneath which may have resulted to having to grow up near the sea and pursuing free diving when I became older. To tie it up to why I’ve mentioned and showed my artworks, my inspiration to pursue this art style came from sad experience encountered while diving. It saddens me how fast our oceans are dying and continue to be polluted. That being said I made a promise to continue on opening the eyes of audiences who would view my artworks. I know it is not as big of an action as others but I feel like it is a strong step towards what I want to achieve. Walking you through my style, my artworks uses scraps I personally collect from friends, family and garbage bins. I create 3-dimensional structures out of these scraps and disguise them to look like real coral reefs. You can check out more of the artworks on my instagram account: www.instagram.com/ianinoy

It is sensual and metaphorical representation of the feeling of love between partners (lovers). As it happens in life, the photographs are divided into stages but at the same time all of these periods are chaotic or often confused, because it’s also similar to what happens in life. Finding oneself inside the feeling of love and the interweaving of this with the construction of relationship, the attempt to build it or the absence of relationships at all (when people are still involved in the feeling itself) is divided for me into four main categories, which I reflect in this series. These categories are extremely conditional, since it is impossible to classify love, but I emphasize my personal thoughts. The first stage is dedicated to the feeling of perfect, absolute happiness, this is the period that I calle “Birds”. The key sensation is like euphoria, lightness, complete emotional absorption. The next stage, called by me as “Waves”, is a period filled with nascent anxiety, doubts, signs of melancholy, fear, but all of this is mostly suppressed, mixed with the moments of former overwhelming joy.

99 B L NC M AGA Z I N E

The next stage is called “Glass”, it is that very vague and complex period, when a clash of flaws is being revealed, those things that are hidden under the veil at the very beginning and now they are exposed, the possibility or unwillingness to accept them can be seen now, when one reflects in the other and sees oneself in a partner and all further actions within them are connected with “repulsion-attracton” process and the ability to cope or inability / unwillingness to do it. Next comes the stage “Membrane”. I’ve chosen this title, because according to the definition of this word, “membrane” is a thin elastic tissue that is separating and connecting or enveloping anything in a living organism. In the development of love, everything happens in the same way - something that unites at the same time pushes people away from each other but also makes that kind of connection that is becoming stronger and deeeper in its special way, even if lovers are apart as a result of a relationship or just a desire to create it.

This series shows a virtual collaboration with the Fashion Queen: Lupe Castro and it conveys my admiration towards her persona. The photographs were taken through a video chat platform during the confinement because of the corona virus pandemia. In the images, we can see her as a pop culture icon sorrounded by some arty books, and together with a plastic person that is my main fetish in photography. Lupe Castro has been into fashion since she was a little girl, she can remember her excitement to see her mum’s dresses in the 70s; and to me it was curious to hear this anecdote because the inspiration for this shooting was from that decade. Having a determined and strong personal style, she aspired to share it with others as a way of living. She has educated and worked in this industry showing her respect for the classical big brands but also supporting emerging designers. She has fought for combining asthetics with ethic and sustainability, in order to promote eco-fashion and vintage. London, Paris and Tenerife are important landmarks in her professional life, organizing and attending to fashion events. She has been a constant defender of the Canarian scene, and she points at creativity as the only possible next step. Lupe and me share a passion for art that I hope you can feel in this physical distance simulated reality experience.

Seigar is a philologist in English, a highschool teacher, and a curious photographer based in Tenerife. He is a fetishist for reflections, saturated colors, details and religious icons. He feels passion for pop culture that shows in his series. He considers himself a travel and street photographer. His aim as an artist is to tell tales with his camera, to capture moments but trying to give them a new frame and perspective. Travelling is his inspiration. However, he tries to show more than mere postcards from his visits, creating a continuous conceptual line story from his trips. The details and subject matters come to his camera once and once again, almost becoming an obsession. His three most ambitious projects so far are his “Plastic People”, a study on anthropology and sociology that focuses on the humanization of the mannequins he finds in the shop windows all over the world, “Response to Ceal Floyer for the Summer Exhibition” a conceptual work that understands art as a form of communication, and his “Tales of a city”, an ongoing urban photo-narrative project taken in London. He is a self-taught visual artist, though he has also done a two years course in advanced photography and one in cinema and television. He usually covers public events with his camera showing his interest for social documentation.
