To our dearest 2021 graduates, You are a special class, our very very first group to hurdle this pandemic that has literally stopped the entire world on its tracks. When we started, we were not even sure how this new method of learning would fare especially since this field of ours, fashion, requires a lot of hand-holding to start and relies on an individual’s dexterity to succeed. Much to our surprise and awe, you have all accomplished the unthinkable. We couldn’t be more proud of you. Congratulations again to the FIDA Class of 2021! To your parents, family, friends and supporters… great job! Onwards to your careers in this brave new world. All the best and God bless you

SAM LIM
My name is Sam Lim and the title of my collection is Pop: Undone. This collection is inspired by the Pop Art Movement of the 50’s and 60’s translated into high street wear. It uses bold colors and cartoon imagery to show that. The details of the collection focuses on the definition of pop art, being an ironic commentary on what fine arts should be. The Collection is a contrast to what is normally presented on a runway where you can see finished garments and very clean lines. It also focuses on bold, vibrant colors showing that fashion can also be fun and playful.

NICOLE LOPEZ I am Nicole Lopez and the theme behind my collection is Contemporary Architecture. In order to portray the theme I chose, I decided to make use of flounces, pleats and layers to mimic the structure of the architecture which served as my collection’s inspiration.

PEARL CLAIRE BUSTOS
I am Claire M. Bustos also known as Pearl. I am 23 years old from Maramag, Bukidnon. My Graduation Collection is entitled “Shinju” inspired by a combination of the traditional and modern Japanese architecture. “Shinju” is a Japanese name meaning “Pearl”. It tells a story about a Japanese mafia clan that hides their illegal business under the cover of pearl trade. Most importantly, it tells a story about the clans - the first female Mafia boss and how she used fashion to empower herself in a world dominated by men.

JOSEA BITO-ON
My collection, entitled Delicate Daydreams, is my interpretation of finding beauty and light in the otherwise mostly morbid and/or eerily surreal visual art masterpieces of 19th Century Romanticism. It puts to center stage the floral borders and pastel hues and color themes that usually act as mere supporting characters on the canvas. I fused the simple and straightforward silhouettes of the1960s MOD fashion era, with the fine and dainty detailing of the early 19th century, complete with intricate needlework, cording, quilting, handpainting and dyeing. These garments are proudly sustainable, made from upcycled materials like used flour sacks, thrifted linens and old upholstery covers. In a nutshell, this whole collection is heavily inspired by one of my favorite quotes which says, “If you look for the light, you can often find it, but if you look for the dark, that is all you will ever see”.

MILES OLIVER
I wanted to showcase a collection that is tough, yet feminine. Joan of Arc is a representation of female empowerment, and that quality is what I want to imbue into my designs – women who wear my clothes will feel like they can conquer the world.

ESTINOPO With my theme Baroque, I wanted my collection to have a feel of luxury and sense of power. I want the wearer to be enriched with power but in a beautiful way. It goes to show that even though it has been here for a long time, Baroque can still feel “new”. I wanted to create designs where the main focus would be details which were different from the minimalist collections today. The details inspired me to imagine myself in their era and to be dressed like them. I wanted to take this feeling and give it a modern twist.

XUPERY IAN
From Mettle and Stone This collection is inspired by Gothic architecture and the contrast between old and new. As an architect, I am interested in forms and shapes, and this propelled me to experiment with different textures and silhouettes in my pieces.

LILIA VALLEJO
On 27th day of December 1998, a future artist was born, registered in the name of Lilia Mae Vallejo, me. At a young age, I knew the future I would like to pursue. Influenced by my grandmother’s career, I started to develop sewing skills at the age of 10. Young, I know, but I think that made me become what I am today. For me, starting early was an advantage as I had more time to gradually mold myself. Turning 23 this year, this woman holds designs that are capable of capturing audience attention and these ideas, ready to be sketched, are dying to crack open the shell that is keeping them unseen. Drawn by chance, I was given the opportunity to design and create masterpieces inspired by the Renaissance Era. However, before Renaissance there was the Dark Age, the era that paved the way for the incarnation of the Renaissance. As we all agree, in order to understand the present, which is Renaissance in my collection, we must have a glimpse of the period that came before it. Hence, for a complete reference and a better story line, I decided to incorporate a glimpse of the Middle Ages to my collection. My Renaissance collection shows a theme that embodies the rebirth of civilization--new hope, after the Middle Ages’ turmoil and a series of major events concerning Greek philosophy, the Dark Era, light and dark choices of intellect, literature, painting, and art. To sum up, this collection will be portraying the beauty that the Renaissance era can offer with a tranquil touch of modern fashion. A garment that does not seek attention, but a masterpiece that attention demands.

LYLY STUDIO
I’m Lyanna of Lyly Studio (lee-lee studio), a Fashion Styling and Communication Graduate. My collection is entitled “Tastefully Mundane.” I wanted to style pieces that were relatable and substantial to the times now. The pandemic has greatly affected us mentally, physically and spiritually but one thing that has binded us in a common thread was how uplifting mother nature was. And I wanted to incorporate that energy to the clothes and to the styling in this photo shoot. You will see the rich earthy tones and details of what we see in our most mundane days. Some pieces were thrifted and reworked to give a more playful and tasteful twist to our timeless basics. One lesson that has widened my eyes is that even our most mundane days don’t necessarily mean it’s boring, it can be tastefully mundane and delightful. And I hope my message came across through these visuals.

ETHAN LIMOTAN On Dec 2018, I had to quit my day job to fulfill a promise. I promised myself that I will have to be a fashion designer by the time I turn 30. So I had to juggle my time with my night work schedule and study during the day. Then the pandemic happened and the world stopped for a minute. I took advantage of the time and finally the day has come that I can present to you my graduation collection. “The Unclean” It is my interpretation of breaking away from the idealistic standards of society in our modern age with reference to the stories of the unclean people and how they are perceived as morally impure, vile and dirty.

ARLENE PACE
It all started with a woman who couldn’t seem to break free from her shell – a talented woman who is too shy to show it off to the rest of the world. But she believed that you cannot grow in your comfort zone. So this woman has emerged from her shell because she believes in herself. This woman is me: Arlene Caacbay-Pace. And I am honored to be representing Fleur, a blooming beauty. This collection is inspired by the Art Nouveau movement which is characterized by its use of a long, sinuous, organic line and is inspired from both organic and geometric forms. This involves elegant designs which flows naturally resembling the stems and blossoming of plants.
