FOREWORD The meek silence of the beast in the woods doesn’t mean it’s not there and its desire to bare the beauty in the unknown has remained endless. The night is a tale of secrecy and the sheeps are suddenly howling. Listen and be broken. Go seek an unknown path alone instead and leave a trail. Exist on your own terms. The passages are endless and the pack of wolves are prowling but keep your eyes on your prey. It’s a hard catch but sometimes it will submit itself. Be the unknown and attack it upon sight and majesty shall begin.

When did you start to call yourself a photographer?
I think it was a gradual realization that this is what I will be doing for the rest of my life. I’ve been in higher education studying photography and fashion for over four years now, and have been creating images for even longer: it probably happened somewhere in the middle of all that.
What / who were your subjects when you first started out? My subjects at the beginning were mainly friends, and girls I spotted at my high school. I remember being obsessed with wanting to photograph this girl who was studying in the classroom in front of mine: she had the most amazing waist long red hair, and was so beautifully awkward. I never
How do you decide on locations and subjects?
I mostly use the studio as a location: I like my space to be abstract and universal. I’m interested in spaces which act as a stage, and in the artist’s studio. I choose my subjects on the basis of the work I’m doing: I love working with dancers, they have the most incredible ways of communicating by using their bodies! I’m also interested in working with unusual beauties, models with striking faces.
What is the difference between working on a female and a male subject?
There’s not much difference: I see all bodies as abstract objects. I’m mainly attracted to working on the female body at the moment, as the politics of its

representation are fundamental to my work.
How would you describe your style (in photography)?
Is there someone you’d love to work with or shoot soon?
I think my style is currently undergoing such a fast period of transformation which makes it hard to describe it in just a few words. I believe this question is probably best directed towards the audience than myself
What has been your most unforgettable shoot and why?
I work with so many amazing and special people every week, and it’s these collaborations which make all of this work worth while! If I’d have to choose someone to work with, I think it would be an incredible choreographer such as Michael Clarke or Sasha Waltz, or the Tanztheatre Wuppertal dance company. But really I have so many names on the list of people I would love
Such a difficult question! Every shoot is special in its own way. I think what really defines a shoot is the process: there’s nothing more unforgettable than one of those shoots where everything: the team, the fashion, the model all click together and the magic of seeing your vision comes to life in front of

your eyes.
I think there are so many concepts to push and to work with in fashion right now, I see it as my main focus for an indefinite time! But I would also love to work on some more personal bodies of work in the future, and maybe to go back to working on new time based projects (I recently presented the
Where do you look for inspiration?
My main inspirations are performance and multimedia artists from the ‘70s, such as Bruce Nauman, Joan Jonas, Helena Almeida, as well as contemporary dance (Pina Bausch and Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker are such important influences in my work). I am also currently obsessed with “lost” female artists from the early 20th century: members of the avant-garde movements such as Valentine de Saint-Point, who was a true pioneer in performance and dance, and is mostly forgotten today!
Will you always be a fashion photographer, or are thereother things you want to do?

What does this editorial mean to you?
For me images must go beyond meaning and articulation. If I would be after a meaning I would be writing say, a book, instead of producing images. Having said that I was thinking about this quote around the time I was producing the editorial: “the man who suffers is a beast, the beast that suffers is a man.” G. Deleuze
In what ways did this shoot surprise you? Nothing worked as planned but we worked through it nonetheless.
What are your biggest strengths?
A wide spectrum of perspectives and diverse thinking.
Where do you see fashion photography taking you? Towards story-telling and new technology of image making.
What do you love most about photography?
I think there’s nothing special about taking photos, everybody can do it... like riding a bicycle. But then if everybody can do it and there’s no preexisting artistic identity in the image produced, how would an individual distinguish him/herself from the others? What I like the most about photography is that it brings up this simple and challenging question.
What would you say is your signature style?
I don’t consider myself having a signature style. I take each project on its own and most of the times I aim at learning something through the process, either technical or directorial. “I” or a style comes the last in my projects, if they come at all

Tell us about your creative background and story as an artist...
I started to draw since I was young, if im not mistaken...It was the good old cartoon network days, and that time I started to draw their cartoon characters. And never that day I stopped drawing. Until I reached high-school, I still continue to draw. But that time it wasn’t cartoon characters anymore and my style changed. It was more on depressed kind of looking, subject and characters. And the time I graduated high-school in Bulacan, I transferred to Manila to pursue college and decided to take up fine arts major in Advertising in Far Eastern University. That time I was fascinated with Fashion and Art. In 2011 a photographer approached me if could do a shoot for a shoe brand (pony) and after that year I tried to go see for a denim brand (Lee) and fortunately got a chance to walk for their fashion show in Glorietta. And in 2013 a local underground magazine (nouveau magazine) called me if I could be part of their premiere issue, and I said yes. And have the chance to work with Sebastian Castro. Also, I’ve been In some music videos, indies and mainstreams. But after those experience, I realized and asked myself “what am i good at”?... somebody is dictating me on what to do on the set...and I get depressed if someone would criticize my look and the way I walk or the way I posed. Soo I decided to go back on a thing i know that no one’s gonna dictate me nor be paranoid on what people say on your photograph. Now i really can say that it is the calling. On that moment, without me noticing. I’m starting to meet and hangout with the people in the industry. And one night, while Im having my beer in Cubao (Today x Future). Austin Castañeda approached me and told me, if I can be in “The Awkward show” (an Art Exhibition). In that time he wants me to collaborate with some of the known underground artists in Manila. That is my first exhibit in 2012, and in that time, that is the point where I wanted to be serious in this profession. That is why in 2014 I decided to transfer in Cebu to widen my knowledge and to know how artists live in all the cities I’ve been. And that is why I decided to enroll in University of San Carlos and took Fine Arts major in Painting.
What medium have you explored and which do you most enjoy?
I tried oil Paint when I joined (Espina Arts Award) but I can’t control the strokes. Although oil paint is really fine. But the medium I love to use is Acrylic, water color and pencil.
What is your creative process? I call it “The French Process” drink coffee and hit a stick of cigarette
What motivates you to create such bautiful illustrations?
Great people and talented crowd, people who share ideas and who are devoted on what they’re doing.
Where do you look for inspiration?
Family and friends
Where do you see your work in ten years? Hopefully magazines, fashion houses and Hot Galleries
A word of wisdom to share with us?
Dance to the beat of your favorite song. And be like a coffee, sometimes it’s cold, sometimes it’s hot, it’s creamy and black, and they’re not. Always be balanced and create something unique........and dance again.
And I have no regrets in transferring and risking a new name in this new City I am in.

Tell us about yourself?
Everything around me, really. I live near downtown and the south bus terminal. Imagine that, I can easily go out on a Sunday, alone to get those creative juices flowing.
Hello I’m Kwncy, a graphic designer. I like to take photos both in film and digital. I’m ambitious and adventurous. I wish to travel the entire Philippines with just a backpack and a camera before I see the rest of the world.
What do you love most about photography?

young and obscure yet fun.
What would you say is your signature style?
I always like to visually portray stillness, nostalgia & melancholy, dark & cool tones in my work.
What are your creative process?
In what ways does photography challenge or stimulate you, as an individual?
express visually.
I don’t have an exact creative process. An idea usually comes from an object, a material or a scene you see or experience on a daily life. Then from there you’ll just let it simmer until you’d get to the exact emotion you want to
Photography took me to places, going out confidently alone. Made me appreciate the simplest things around. Made me curious, even to the deserted places, it triggers my urge to explore more. It made me took risk a lot, trespassed a lot of walls or doors just to take the perfect picture.
What are your tools of the trade?
I don’t have that much I only have a vintage pentax and a vivitar lomo camera. my digital photos are usually from my ipod or from my father’s camera stocked in a silver attache case in his studio which I can’t use anytime I want that’s why I pick my film most of the time.

What are your biggest strengths?
What does this editorial mean to you?
I think my biggest strengths are patience and ability to be inspired from a small details around myself, if it’s music, cinema, trees, kitchen etc.
Every editorial is part of me, this is my creative outlet, idea and expression, once again I can enjoy the time and relax while doing what I like.
What projects are you working on now?
What does this story say about yourself as a creative?
At the moment I am working on autumn themed, classic, retro male fashion editorials, trying to show the old school gentlemen in the new modern world.
This story talks about my time spending in front of pc, the times when I mange to cheat and have some grate time while gaming online and at the same time getting inspirations for my upcoming works.
In what ways did this shoot surprise you?
Where do you see fashion photography taking you?
The shoot itself and the backstage surprises me, how can I manage to work at the worst times, like the whole idea was way different and the clothes in the beginning had to be avantgard, but due to misunderstandings I had to do everything on my own, I am surprised the way my brains work using stuff I find in studio and improvise.
It’s taking me forwards, new places, new people, much more experience and knowledge to absorb.
A word of wisdom to share to us?
Do it because you love it, not because you think it’s a chance for a fast money!
Tell us about the editorial?
The editorial is an experiment and improvisation of me and a model. The model is muay thai fighter, who went to professional modelling and want’s to discover his strength in way different and glamorous occupation. At the same time I decided to experiment with my fondness of online gaming, most of the games are violent, but for me they are an art form, so we united for battle against stereotypes.

Tell us about yourself
Describe your aesthetic to us, and what you try to achieve through your work...
Well, Hello Im Matt, for no rational reason, I dreamed of being an astronaut when I was in elementary days. I learnt photography when I was in college and continue learning everyday.
In my work I constantly try to show my vision of the world and how it is portrayed in its finest state. I truly believe that we can experience true hapiness if were open to all there is to feel.
What keeps you motivated as a creative?
Ive learnt that staying motivated is difficult. From experiences, comparing yourself and your work to others doesnt do anyone any good. Instead, creating your own niche and going in a direction that you feel is natural is what we should be doing. Other that that, try something new, whether by working with new people or exploring a new place on your own, you might see things differently.
What does your photography say about yourself?
Its hard to say, but I strongly believe photography itself is a great medium. I hope that I am able to embrace a story behind the images and give the garmets and model a voice as well.
In what ways does photography challenge or stimulate you as an individual?
A word of wisdom
I would like to say that vision is more important than technique. Find out what is your speciality and try to focus on that. It will get you further than you could imagine!
Im interested in transcience and how we define beauty and how it changes over time. I believe in this digital age, it can do anything we want in an instant. I shot digital, I love digital, digital is here now. Its the medium.

I’m proud to say that my good friend back in college who now prefers to be called Soika Vomitter has come a long way. His habit of engaging into social commentary has been translated into everyday artworks more and more Cebuanos enjoy. Since 2012 he has been a part and actively involved with local and national exhibits including the recent Meeting of Styles here in Cebu. Back in the day we would frolic around inside and outside the campus sharing our thoughts about the educational system, debating over what type of government would be ideal and life’s progression in general. Soika is one of those people who bring mental stimulation into every conversation and is one of the most passionate artists I’ve personally met. This article was also a chance for me to peek into what has been going on since our graduation last March 2014.
I had the urge to take my art back in the streets. I was just fooling around but I discovered the true beauty of street art. It gave me the freedom I always wanted. 82

When I met him about 4 years ago, Soisoi (as his close friends and peers would call him) was mainly focused and influenced on surrealism and mixed media. Students who would pass by the painting quarters of the campus would be left in awe and shock as subjects were portrayed in obscure shapes. He also dabbled into street art back in 2008 but expressed that he never truly found his freedom as an artist back then. He’s been back into street art for over a year now and his recent works are a fine example of Lowbrow Abject Art/Urban Abject Art, which is also dubbed as pop surrealism. Passion and fascination is what drives Soisoi to create, specifically abjection and its impact to human mental and emotional condition. Those who know him personally would already know how he likes to express his social commentary through everyday conversation and his personal works most especially. When I asked him what his viewers would likely get to witness, he wanted them to get to know more about the malignant diseases of society. Diseases such as questionable standards and painstakingly keeping up with the norm.

“Back in early 2014, I had the urge to take my art back in the streets. I was just fooling around but I discovered the true beauty of street art. It gave me the freedom I always wanted. Although there were risks such as getting caught by the police, the kind of freedom I wanted was having no restraint from the type of art I wanted to portray and which social issues I wanted to express. No one would tell me how to do what I wanted- whether I wanted it to be abstract, proportional or non-proportional and even if I wanted to create installation art. Anything is possible in the streets, and that’s the freedom I want.”
85
BLNC ONLINE
I’m sure you’ve absently gazed into some of his artworks at several occasions during your daily commute here in Cebu. He now likes to work with acrylic and latex paint and considers one of his mentors back in college Nomar Miano as one of those who pulled his heart and soul into consistently producing art. His later college years proved to be a turning point this difficult period taught him to balance his personal dilemmas and his passion for art. He hopes to produce more art and hopefully become an art instructor someday. Although the local art scene is slowly progressing day by day, artists like Soika recognize that for local art to reach its full potential, Cebu should have more art schools, active galleries and enthusiasts alike. For him, evolving and adapting to change wouldn’t matter as long as these would inspire him to become a better artist and have a better understanding of life. Thus his parting words for aspiring artists: “Seek truth, be true and never stop wondering.”

Tell us about the editorial?
A word of wisdom to share to us?
Bright, clean and colourful. this editorial is special becaouse, I got my best friend as the model and Matt as the stylist. We rounded up all the clothes and took the photos in under an hour. Everything was just right. I envisioned it to be Corky and fun but also mysterious.
“Never underestimate the power of connections.” Connections are the best human resource you can have. I know it doesn’t sound pretty but if you don’t put yourself out there no one will notice you.
What do you love most about photography?
What are your biggest strengths?
Photography is my outlet to a busy week of working or going to school on a weekday and on the weekend you have something to look forward to after that shoot when you edit. It’s just a simple joy that something your really passionate in doing will give you that kind of satisfaction.
Maybe just maybe I’m very well in adjusting to my environment. Like when I go out to meet important people and on the next hour I go hangout with my retard friends, and I know how to put my self in any situation.
What would you say is your signature style?
I picked up my style from people i observed working with. but eventually i know I’m still on that process of developing my style I’m now more focusing on beauty editorials. i just love fixing the little ditails and justing to make it
What projects are you working on now?
Well for now all my works are just client based. But I’m working and gathering a team to make a production for a food blog, because I love to cook, eat and talk about food. You know I really miss working on my own projects rather than all clients day in, day out. It restarts the creative cycle.
more visually good..
Where do you see fashion photography taking you?
When I first started only as an assistant it opened me to endless door of possibilities. I had countless works published in the local newspapers and I also got in a reality tv show where we shoot fashion editorials in a time crunch. I could say its been taking me to meet all this talented and creative people in the industry and it is still taking me to that wild ride.

What do you love most about photography?
Finding the light, observing, documenting, creating and especially telling a story.
What would you say is your signature style?
My friends always tell me that the photos I take have a “mystical” feel to them. I do like my personal shoots to be mysterious. Most of my shots look kind of candid, and I subconsciously choose the photos I hadn’t meant to

Fun fact: my name (Phoebe) means “light” and my family name (Espejo) means “mirror” (reflected light = camera). I don’t know how it happened, I don’t think my parents expected their daughter to grow up a photographer, but hey, parents’ naming game is on point!
do, because they’re a lot more interesting.
I’m an introvert, so it’s hard for me to express myself in words. I cringe at myself every time I answer questions from an interview, I never seem to get my thoughts across clearly, this is the same for any artist I think, and it’s easier to express yourself with art – like photography.
In what ways does photography challenge or stimulate you as an individual?
A word of wisdom
We observe, we create. There’s so many things we can do with photography – we can take snapshots of things happening everyday – recording it, remembering it, and we can also create worlds that don’t exist but suddenly do because of photography.
I grew a wisdom tooth but I don’t think I’m wise enough so I guess I’ll say something pretty cliché but true all the same. Do what you love and love what you do!

Tell us about yourself?
Hi there Im Rap a photographer by heart and I love taking photos its been a passion of mine ever since! Im a loud person when i shoot but quiet when idle! I like to give energy to my models ! so that the ouput is out of this world! Sometimes I think of myself as a charger giving every one energy booster to the shoot.
What are your biggest strengths?
I guess my biggest strength is that im really open to ideas workin on this editorial with Mac and Milky we just talked about it on the day of the shoot. Then viola! Im really open to collborations and ideas from other people not only my own
What projects are you working on now?
What does this editorial mean to you?
Right now im mainly working on shooting advertising for corporates and medicine ads! haha (to the jobs that pays the bills) but I mainly do beauty shoots and portraits, i love beauty!! cant get enough of it.
Having this editorial is like getting the duality of a model through contrast, its like there is an abstract of a yin and a yang on a story of powerful images in one.
What does this story say about yourself as a creative? I guess its all about balance to me, without the proper balance and the proper guidance you might have a difficlut time producing outputs that represent you or what you do, I am a firm believer that effort beats talent. No matter how good you are, without effort no resort
A word of wisdom to share to us?
Keep shooting, just endure and persevere. Even if you’re down to your last breath, as long as the magic is still there, keep shooting! Sacrifices have to be made and it will all pay off tomorrow.
In what ways did this shoot surprise you.
I guess working with different cultures though my team is purely Manila based however our models are brazilian and russian I noticed that both have differnt cultures, and its quiet a challenge.

Tell us about yourself? and your style in taking photographs? Hi! I am Martie, a happy-go-lucky person, an advertising arts student from USC. Photography is a joy of mine, aside from photography i also like graphic design. I love to learn and work with many things through art and fashion.
I can say that my style in taking photographs is conceptual, artsy with a touch of fashion. i just simply want to make ordinary photographs extraordinary.
In what ways did this shoot surprise you?
It surprised me in a way that the result has become so catchy to look at.
What are your biggest strengths?
I still cant say what my biggest strengths are but i consider photography as one of the working progress that i am still mastering. Im still in progress with working on the things I love
Where do you see fashion photography taking you?
Someday, I hope fashion photography will take me anywhere around the world of art & fashion meet creatives that i can collab with and be friends!
Why do you used bold colors in this editorial?
I used bold colors beacause for me it simply brings the best in a picture, and set moods , feelings and stories that the viewers can relate, feel and imagine.
that would be really great.
A word of wisdom to share to us? Never stop trying, continue learning.
What does this editorial mean to you?
It means to me that the presence of color sets every scene to bloom, lightens the whole place and there’s a certain peace, pureness and work of art.
What does this story say about yourself as a creative?
It speaks different variations of emotions and feelings that humans can feel, its like a painting on a canvas - an expressed, mixed, textured, design of art. it’s our feelings; it’s us being who we are..
