Tbflorist Il mio lavoro a Petersham Nurseries non è mai noioso ogni giorno è diverso. Gestisco un team di 12 persone, mi occupo sia della scelta delle piante e dei fiori recisi, sia della creazione delle composizioni floreali per eventi e matrimoni durante l’arco di tutto l’anno. La creatività è la parte che preferisco del mio lavoro. In vivaio abbiamo un bellissimo “giardino di taglio” che mi permette di scegliere fiori freschi tutto l’anno. Quest’anno abbiamo
piantumato un cutting border interamente bianco, così anche durante i mesi invernali avremo a disposizione fogliame e fiori particolari. Amare i fiori significa, per me, creare matrimoni incantevoli. Durante l’estate, abbiamo matrimoni ogni settimana e ognuno ha uno stile diverso ed esclusivo, dovuto anche alla stagionalità dei fiori. Potenzialmente, uso il giardino come un modello, infatti nelle mie scelte sono spesso guidato da un fiore
My job at Petersham Nurseries is never boring – every single day is different. I manage a team of 12 people and I am also the plant and cut flower buyer, I also create flowers for many events and weddings throughout the year. The favourite part of my job is the creativity. I adore working on weddings and love working with flowers. We have a beautiful cutting garden at the nursery, which enables me to pick from the garden almost all year
round. This year we planted an all-white cutting border, which will give us flowers and foliage during the winter months. I love creating flowers for weddings. During the summer months, we have weddings every week and each one is different, as I work on a completely seasonal basis. I use the garden as my template, sometimes being driven by a particular flower or plant. In June it is all about Roses, in

chestnuts are showing the first yellow leaves, and the Virginia creeper is starting to turn red. Slowly, Summer fades away, and the countryside wraps itself in mist, russet leaves, and wood smoke. Autumn, with its rich colours, whispers in my ears to make the most of each sunny day, and go

la rivincita dei fiori di carta “Non faccio copie di fiori ! Sono una libera interpretazione dei fiori reali. Il mio lavoro si basa sull’istinto, sulla creatività, nel momento stesso in cui inizio a modellare la carta crespa si apre un mondo intero fatto di fantasia e inventiva. Ho passato gli ultimi 27 anni della mia vita a lavorare con i fiori freschi, per matrimoni ed eventi, e ora creo le stesse cose ma di carta. Una novità, una nuova tendenza, una nuova sfida. “ Lui i fiori li conosce davvero bene, stami, petali, foglie, piccioli, sono scolpiti nella sua mente e mentre lavora si lascia trasportare dalla creatività. Magari parte con l’idea di un fiore particolare
e poi in corso d’opera, arriva la magia, perché la realizzazione finale, può assomigliare ad un raffinato fiore di gardenia, ma potrebbe anche ricordare un gelsomino, gigante, come fuori scala.

Da qui è iniziato lo studio, in collaborazione con l’azienda vicentina, di una cartella colori nuova, voluta da Andrea Merendi, con una paletta cromatica che ricorda i pastelli, gli sbiaditi, i macarons du Ladurée, dal gusto raffinatissimo e perfetti per le sue creazioni.
Davide proprietario eclettico di All’Origine, sempre attento alle ultime tendenze, lo ha voluto per i suoi eventi, sia al Salone del Mobile di Milano, sia nel suo showroom di Imola. foto qui sopra. La banoffee pie, "banana" and "toffee", è un dolce inglese creato nel 1971, Per prima cosa prepariamo il dulce de leche, è semplicissimo basta mettere la lattina di latte condensato in una pentola, coprirla d’acqua, portare a bollore e lasciarla sobbollire per tre ore facendo attenzione che la lattina resti sempre coperta d’acqua. Dopo tre ore, spegnere e lasciare raffreddare. Per la base frullare i biscotti fino a ridurli in polvere, unire il burro e versarli in uno stampo rotondo a cerniera foderato con carta da forno pressandoli bene con un
cucchiaio sul fondo e sulle pareti. Lasciare solidificare in frigorifero per un’ora. (foto 1) Versare sulla base il dulce de leche livellandolo bene. (foto 2) Distribuire sulla crema uno strato di fettine di banana. (foto 3) Coprire con abbondante panna montata. (foto 4) Decorare con del cioccolato fondente grattugiato grossolanamente. (foto 5) Tenere in frigorifero fino al momento di servire.
First prepare the dulce de leche, it’s quite easy, just put the can of condensed milk in a saucepan, cover it with water, bring to a boil and let simmer for three hours making sure that the can always remains covered with water. After three hours, turn off and let cool. For the base blend the biscuits till reduced to powder, add the butter and pour into a removable cake mould lined with baking paper pressing well with a spoon on the bottom and on the sides.
Allow to solidify in the refrigerator for one hour. (Photo 1) Pour on the base the dulce de leche leveling it well. (Photo 2) Spread on the cream a layer of banana slices. (Photo 3) Cover with plenty of whipped cream. (Photo 4) Decorate with coarsely grated dark chocolate. (Photo 5) Keep in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Ghirlanda di fine estate in paper cut Non esiste una vera e propria distinzione tra i termini ghirlanda e corona, si riferiscono entrambi a intrecci di foglie, di fiori ed erbe nati come ornamento del capo oppure usati come addobbo festoso per decorare gli ambienti o come omaggio ai defunti. La ghirlanda è in genere più grande della corona. Secondo Plinio il Vecchio (Nat. Hist., XXI, 4), la prima corona usata dai Romani era di spighe di frumento, legata al capo con una fascia bianca, fu segno distintivo dell’ordine dei sacrificatori dei campi. Dal dizionario etimologico latino, la parola corona, così come in greco korònè, è un intreccio di fiori ridotto a cerchio usato come ornamento della testa e se di fronde, è premio di
valore. Sempre secondo quanto riportato da Plinio, in principio la corona fu di semplice erba verde strappata dai vinti dal suolo di battaglia e offerta ai vincitori in riconoscimento di vittoria. Barnsley House Occorrono passione, buon gusto e tanta cultura per creare giardini che lasciano un ricordo nel cuore e siano degni di essere ammirati. Rosemary Verey è stata una grande giardiniera che nel Cotswold, una delle più belle campagne inglesi, ha realizzato un piccolo giardino di 4 acri per accompagnare l’elegante dimora di Barnsley House. Lo stile Verey coniuga le forme austere e formali del passato con il tocco più romantico dei cottage garden. E’ stato uno dei più apprezzati e influenti negli anni ottanta e
novanta tanto che il Principe Carlo chiese la consulenza della progettista per il giardino di Highgrove. Il giardino di Barnsley House è diventato un’ icona, lo spazio è suddiviso in quadrati e sentieri che si ispirano ai modelli del XVII secolo. Uno degli interventi più apprezzati e fotografati del giardino primaverile è il tunnel di maggiociondolo che gioca sul contrasto della copiosa fioritura gialla con la sottostante profusione di allium porpora. Lasciati ispirare dal mondo di Beatrix Potter
Non molto conosciuta in Italia se non dagli anni Novanta in poi, Beatrix Potter rimane indelebilmente legata alla fama a cui la consegnarono i disegni dei suoi animali. “Un libro di conigli”, così venne definita dalla Frederick Warne & Co. la sua prima pubblicazione. Tuttavia i “libri di conigli” le diedero ben presto un’immensa popolarità e l’indipendenza che desiderava. Figlia di una famiglia non aristocratica ma di upper class, Beatrix fu una donna indipendente e mai spaventata di vivere da sola o senza figli. Quando l’amore della sua vita morì, rimase a lungo da sola, sposandosi in tarda età con un avvocato conosciuto nella zona di Hill Top Farm, dove aveva acquistato un cottage e
delle terre, sfidando la famiglia che la voleva ben accasata. Un volto da bambina e una figura minuta, occhi grandi, pronti alla sorpresa e una bocca sempre piegata al sorriso tradiscono uno spirito che non accettava il dogmatismo vittoriano e la società patriarcale. Femminista senza clamori, giardiniera per diletto, illustratrice botanica e naturalistica, tra i tanti meriti, Beatrix Potter ebbe anche il merito di acquistare delle terre per sottrarle alla speculazione edilizia, conservare una parte del Lake District e alla sua morte donare tutto al National Trust. Ve l’aspettavate, da una che ha scritto “libri di conigli”?

Feminist without clamor, gardener for pleasure, botanical and naturalist illustrator, among many merits, Beatrix Potter also had the insight to buy properties to rescue them from speculation, to protect a part of the Lake District and, at her death, to give everything to the National Trust. Il giardino di Beatrix Potter non ha delle particolari grazie, giochi di trame, di colore, di volumi. Non c’è nulla di sperimentale: Hill Top Farm vicino al villaggio di Sawrey nel Lake District è un cottage molto semplice e senza nessuna pretesa giardinicola. Solo avere un po’ di verdura, frutta e fiori, e rallegrare lo spirito. Forse è questa sua semplicità, questa purezza gentile a incantare i visitatori. Il National Trust ha conservato il giardino con tutta la meticolosità possibile, dato che Potter non lasciò alcun appunto. Rifacendosi ai disegni e ai bozzetti, sia la casa che il giardino, l’orto e il paesaggio circostante,
sembrano saltar fuori da un disegno di Beatrix, animati, carichi di tanta forza vitale da cederla ai disegni e renderli vivi. La trappola è dietro l’angolo quando si conservano beni posseduti da personaggi celebri: esagerare con i riferimenti e trasformare giardino e paesaggio in una cartolina.

Ed è il paziente lavoro quotidiano che si respira a Hill Top, non smancerie e carinerie posticce. Il giardino era per Beatrix Potter soprattutto un modo per avvicinare le tante creature che amava.
The National Trust has been meticulous in keeping this garden, since Potter left no written instructions. Referring only to her drawings and sketches, both the house and the garden, including the
Beatrix lived modestly and kept working her whole life and this patient daily work still reigns in Hill Top, with no fuss or fake niceties. The garden was for Beatrix Potter mainly a way to invite the many creatures she loved to come closer in.

Flowerona sono nati dopo una lunga chiacchierata con la mia amica Fiona Humberstone, di The Brand Stylist. Abbiamo intuito che anche gli operatori del settore verde, come i fioristi, potevano avvalersi delle nostre competenze in social media marketing per far crescere la loro attività. Ed ecco che nel 2014 è nato a Londra il primo corso di Social Media per fioristi. Parlaci dei Workshop. Prima di aprire il mio blog ho lavorato in una società come trainer aziendale, invece Fiona ha sempre tenuto corsi e workshop in passato. Flowerona is a multiaward-winning flower-inspired blog. You have over 20,000 followers on Instagram, run business workshops for florists and have a YouTube channel with lots of videos. How have you developed all these projects at the same time? I’ve been running Flowerona for over five years now, starting initially with the blog. I then set up an Instagram account. Being such a visual social media platform, I realised early on that it was definitely one I should concentrate building a following on. The Flowerona Workshops came about
after a conversation with a very good friend, Fiona Humberstone, The Brand Stylist. We could see how florists could really benefit from learning how to use social media effectively as a marketing tool to grow their businesses. So, we decided to run our first workshop, Social Media for Florists, in London in July 2014. Then a couple of years ago, I set up my YouTube channel. And yes, it is sometimes a challenge to juggle everything! How did the Flowerona Workshops begin? Prior to Flowerona, I worked in the corporate world as a trainer. And Fiona had run workshops in the past. I found the venue and Fiona found the

Instagram ho trovato una location perfetta dove tenere i corsi e Fiona invece ha trovato il servizio di catering. I feedback dei partecipanti sono stati a dir poco entusiastici e ora siamo arrivati al quinto corso di Social Media per fioristi, che si terrà a Londra a settembre, e asiamo anche al secondo corso di Branding for florist, ovvero come promuovere
l’attività di fiorista attraverso lo stile e l’identità dell’azienda. Come si evolverà il blog nel 2016/7 ? che progetti hai? Indubbiamente continuerò a scrivere cinque post a settimana per il blog. Ma ho tra le mani un progetto molto speciale… e spero di rivelarvi i dettagli molto presto!

perché? Perchè arriva Her Majesty la Regina Elisabetta II, che con i suoi completini color pastello visita tutto il Parco del Royal Hospital dove appunto si svolge il Chelsea, visita i vari giardini in concorso, i vivai con le loro eccellenze all’interno del Great Pavilion, e stringe le mani ai vincitori dei vari premi assegnati. Il martedì il Chelsea Flowers Show apre ai membri della Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) e .. già non si riesce più a visitare, tantissime le persone presenti, e dal giorno dopo apre al pubblico, un vero delirio, in totale quest’anno sono passati 161,000 visitatori. Perchè tutto questo interesse per i fiori e i giardini, perché in effetti la manifestazione è davvero speciale e unica. I molti giardini in concorso, infatti il Chelsea Flower Show è suddiviso in varie sezioni e categorie, offrono spunti e idee nuove per professionisti come, progettisti, vivaisti e giardinieri, ma anche per tutte le altre persone appassionate di piante.

I giardini in concorso si possono solo vedere dall’esterno, sono recintati, come belissimi set teatrali, sono solo da
guardare e ammirare, ma vengono distribuiti volantini con le piante e le essenze utilizzate, e creano la voglia di ricreare un pezzettino di Chelsea a casa nostra. Tanti di questi giardini vengono poi donati ad associazioni benefiche od ospedali, o molto più semplicemente venduti a facoltosi clienti inglesi e non. Negli ultimi anni si assiste sempre di più al giardino NON giardino, ovvero alla creazione di un “pezzo” di paesaggio, tanto caro agli inglesi, che assomiglia alla natura e che non sembra invece progettato e studiato. Affascinanti angoli di bosco, paesaggi da rigogliosa campagna inglese, assolata campagna francese e aridi angoli da Sierra Madre, vengono proposti e apprezzati. Tutta la città è in subbuglio, a partire dall’elegante quartiere londinese del Chelsea che si trasforma in una sola notte e il lunedi mattina le vetrine dei negozi sono addobbate con fiori e installazioni creative di ogni genere. Spero di avervi incuriositi e magari l’anno prossimo di vedervi a Londra.

She sees all the gardens in the competition, the nurseries with their excellent displays inside the Great Pavilion, and she shakes hands with the winners of the various awarded prizes. On the Tuesday, the Chelsea Flower Show opens to members of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and… it already becomes difficult to visit the show, due to the huge crowd. The next day it opens to the public, and then it really gets frenzied; this year there were 161,000 visitors in total. Why all this interest in flowers and gardens? Actually because this event is really special and unique. The many competition gardens (the Chelsea Flower Show is divided into various sections and categories) offer inspiration and new ideas to professionals such as designers, nursery people and gardeners, but also for all other people who are passionate of plants. The competition gardens are only visible from outside. They are fenced off, like some magnificent
theatrical sets, and may only be looked at and admired from a distance. But flyers with the details of the plants and materials used are handed out, and give rise to the desire to recreate a piece of ‘Chelsea’ at home. Many of these show gardens are then donated to charitable associations or hospitals, or more simply sold to wealthy clients, including both English and international visitors. In recent years, we are seeing more and more gardens that are NOT really gardens, but more the creation of a “piece” of landscape, so dear to the British. These ‘gardens’ look like nature and do not seem designed and studied. Enchanting forest corners, English countryside lush landscapes, the sunny French countryside and arid corners of the Sierra Madre are created and appreciated. The whole city is in a flower frenzy, starting from the elegant London district of Chelsea that in just one night transforms itself, with shop windows featuring flower decorations and creative installations of all kinds on the Monday morning.
