Come nasce una copertina Il non viaggio Il tema del viaggio di questo numero di Blossomzine doveva essere Gerusalemme e tutti gli articoli compresa la copertina dovevano ruotare intorno a questo tema, ma il viaggio, causa lockdown e Covid -19 in questo 2020 non c’è stato, quindi dovevo trovare un nuovo tema da abbinare alla cover.

La copertina è in

collaborazione con Cactusmania, un vivaio di Ventimiglia specializzato in piante grasse e succulente dove da molti anni vengono coltivate oltre alle più tradizionali cactacee anche delle piante particolari e bizzarre.

L’idea del tema Il tema di questo numero è… spaziale, vi porteremo sui pianeti e vi faremo scoprire noti paesaggi desertici

The missed trip The theme of the journey in this issue of Blossomzine was supposed to be Jerusalem and all the articles including the cover had to revolve around this theme, but the journey, due to the lockdown and Covid -19 in this 2020, couldn’t happen, so I had to find a new theme to match the cover.

I realized it in

collaboration with Cactusmania, a nursery in Ventimiglia specialized in succulents, where for many years particular and bizarre plants are being cultivated in addition to the more traditional cactaceae.

californiani dove negli anni Cinquanta venivano ambientati i film americani di sci-fi e B movie.

Il brief della copertina è nato così: abbinare delle strane cactacee alla mia idea di pianeti del profondo cielo.

Nel primo video vedrete che sono andata in vivaio da Cactusmania e con Annarita Manera abbiamo scelto le piante più curiose e singolari per colori, forme, foglie e sagome.

Partendo dai Notocactus

Leninghausii (foto 7) più tradizionali abbiamo poi scelto le forme bizzarre e verrucose delle Adromischus marianiae herrei (foto 9/10) e i globosi Astrophytum myriostigma dalla forma di stella dal colori azzurro pallido e grigio. ( foto 10).

desert landscapes where the American sci-fi and B movies were set in the 1950s.

The brief on the cover was created with this intent: to combine some weird cacti with my idea of planets in the deep sky.

In the first video you will see that I went to the Cactusmania nursery and with Annarita Manera I chose the plants most curious and singular for colors, forms, leaves and shapes.

Starting from the more traditional Notocactus Leninghausii, (photo 7) we then chose the bizarre and warty forms of the Adromischus marianiae herrei (photo 9/10) and the globose Astrophytum myriostigma with a star shape in pale blue and gray colors (photo 10).

per farmi spiegare e raccontare del pianeta rosso per eccellenza Marte e di come stanno studiando e cercando dati attraverso sonde spaziali, lander e rover.

Mi ha anche suggerito gli ingredienti per creare il terreno marziano rosso della copertina.

La creazione singolare dei set delle fotografie che vedete è stata decisamente un viaggio astratto, adatto a questo periodo, dove il dover spaziare e volteggiare con la mente su altri pianeti mi ha portato una suggestione particolare che vorrei trasmettervi.

La cover La copertina è ambientata su Marte, con la terra rossa, una pietra mastodontica e una sfera di ferro arrugginito sullo sfondo come fosse un altro pianeta da scoprire e in primo piano delle piante succulente folli.

Particolarissime le piante fotografate si chiamano Lithops ( foto 1), sono delle succulente che sembrano dei sassi viventi, infatti, il nome Lithops deriva dal greco lithos (pietra) e opsis (aspetto), la particolarità sta nel fatto che la pianta è costituita da due foglie

accoppiate, divise da un taglio centrale, da dove poi nascono le nuove foglie e dei fiori bellissimi.

I personaggi anni Cinquanta In questi set speciali ho intenzionalmente inserito anche delle figure e dei microscopici personaggi, per raccontarvi delle piccole storie, storie disparate ambientate come nei film americani di serie B in ecosistemi lunari, marziani… extraterrestri, ma con una luce particolare da teatro di posa dei film Hollywoodiani.

Dai paparazzi in cerca delle bagnanti “disinvolte” ai poliziotti e ranger in cerca del grande occhio nascosto nel terreno.

Dai vigili del fuoco con le divise antincendio alla classica famiglia in villeggiatura, dalle figure dei bagnanti del XIX secolo fino ad arrivare agli astronauti ed alle sonde spaziali.

of Turin, to make me explain and tell about the planet red for excellence: Mars, and how they are studying and looking for data through space probes, landers and rovers.

She also suggested the ingredients for creating the red Martian soil in the cover.

The singular creation of the sets of the photographs you see was definitely an abstract journey, in tune with this period, where having to wander and twirl with my mind on other planets gave rise to a particular suggestion that I wanted to convey to you.

The cover The cover is set on Mars, with red soil, a mammoth stone and a rusty iron sphere in the background as if it were another planet to be discovered and some foolish succulent plants in the foreground.

The plants photographed are called Lithops (photo 1), succulents that look like living stones, in fact, the name Lithops derives from the Greek lithos (stone) and opsis (appearance), the peculiarity lies in the fact that the plant consists of two coupled

leaves, divided by a central cut, from where the new beautiful leaves and flowers are born.

The characters of the fifties In these special sets I have also intentionally included figures and microscopic characters, to tell you about some small stories, disparate stories set like in some American B series movies in lunar, Martian... extraterrestrial ecosystems, but with a particular light as that of a theatre setting of some Hollywood films.

From paparazzi in search of “relaxed” female swimmers to policemen and rangers in search of the big eye hidden in the ground.

From firefighters in their work uniforms to the classic family on holiday, from the figures of bathers of the nineteenth century up to the astronauts and the space probes.

Planetaro di Torino

Torino ha la sua città delle stelle chiamata Pino Torinese che ospita un Parco Astronomico al cui interno si trovano l’Osservatorio Astrofisico di Torino e Infini.to – Planetario di Torino, Museo dell’Astronomia e dello Spazio.

Ci potete raccontare qualcosa del vostro museo, quando è stato istituito e come è stato realizzato architettonicamente?

Al suo interno lavora un gruppo di persone composto da esperti in comunicazione della scienza, appassionati e studiosi di Astronomia e Spazio, che realizzano le attività quotidiane e portano avanti progetti nazionali e internazionali.

La struttura che racchiude il Museo è molto particolare e richiama un oggetto celeste realmente esistente: un sistema binario costituito da una stella gigante rossa e un buco nero.

La sfera che racchiude la sala del Planetario rappresenta la stella, mentre il cono di cristallo, che dall’ingresso scende fino

Turin has its own city of the stars, it’s called Pino Torinese, it houses an Astronomical Park where the Turin Astrophysical Observatory and Infini. to (Planetarium of Turin, Museum of Astronomy and Space) are located.

Can you tell us something about your museum, when was it established and how was it built architecturally?

Infini.to was founded on the hill of Pino Torinese on September 27, 2007 as a divulging center dedicated to Astronomy and Space. It is a modern science museum which hosts numerous interactive installations and a latest generation digital planetarium.

Inside the center works a group of people

composed of experts in science communication, enthusiasts and scholars of Astronomy and Space, who realize daily activities and carry out national and international projects.

The structure that contains the Museum is very particular and recalls a truly existing celestial object: a binary system consisting of a giant red star and a black hole. The sphere that encloses the Planetarium room represents the star, while the crystal cone, which from the entrance goes down to the -3 floor, reproduces the astrophysical jet of a black hole located on the top floor of the Museum.

Una volta varcata la soglia del Museo, avvolti dai suoni dello Spazio e muovendosi in una struttura unica e affascinante, i visitatori possono sperimentare in prima persona la scienza e “giocare” con essa. La regola principale del Museo è: vietato NON toccare!

Parte integrante della struttura è la Terrazza sul cielo, uno spazio esterno con una vista stupenda

che all’imbrunire si trasforma in una terrazza osservativa e, grazie alla guida dello Staff e con l’utilizzo di telescopi, è possibile ammirare dal vivo le meraviglie del nostro cielo.

In quale modo riuscite a farci viaggiare nello spazio? Di quali moderne tecnologie dispone il simulatore del cielo stellato?

Cuore pulsante di Infini.to è il Planetario, un vero e proprio simulatore del cielo: ciò che si vede non è reale ma ricostruito.

Un luogo magico che, grazie alla proiezione della volta celeste e degli oggetti che la popolano su uno schermo semisferico, crea un

An integral part of the structure is the Terrace on the sky, an outdoor space with a wonderful view that turns into an observation terrace at dusk and, thanks to the guidance of the Staff and the use of telescopes, allows to admire live the wonders of our sky.

How do you manage to make us travel in space? What modern technologies does the starry sky simulator have?

The beating heart of Infini.to is the Planetarium, a real sky simulator: what you see is not real but rebuilt.

A magical place that, thanks to the projection on a hemispherical screen of the celestial vault and the objects that populate it, creates an immersive and engaging effect.

The Planetarium inside the Infini.to Museum uses digital computer graphics, Digistar6, produced by Evans & Sutherland, an American company among the

effetto immersivo e coinvolgente.

Il Planetario che si trova all’interno del Museo di Infini.to utilizza una grafica digitale computerizzata, Digistar6, prodotto dalla ditta americana Evans & Sutherland, tra i più avanzati al mondo.

Grazie a questa tecnologia e con l’impiego del Digital Universe, una base dati del cielo costruita sulle osservazioni dei maggiori telescopi dalla Terra e dallo Spazio, è possibile sorvolare Sole e pianeti, osservando da vicino spettacolari dettagli tridimensionali, seguire satelliti e sonde spaziali, avvicinarsi ad ammassi stellari e galassie lontane, andare virtualmente a “spasso” per il cosmo e viaggiare

nel tempo fino all’inizio del Big Bang.

Molti degli spettacoli proposti vengono prodotti completamente dallo Staff di Infini. to, dallo storybording alle realizzazioni 3D in computer grafica, dalla scelta delle musiche alla creazione del video finale che viene successivamente narrato dal vivo con il pubblico in sala. Questo rende anche lo spettacolo un momento interattivo e coinvolgente.

Il planetario diventa inoltre, in alcuni momenti dell’anno, un vero e proprio palco stellato accompagnando performance musicali live o spettacoli di teatro e scienza.

Qual è la vostra strategia

Many of the shows proposed are produced entirely by the Infini.to

staff, from storybording to 3D computer graphics, from the choice of music to the creation of the final video which is then narrated live with the audience in the room.

This makes also the show an interactive and engaging moment.

The planetarium also becomes, at certain times of the year, a real starry stage accompanying live musical performances or theater and science shows.

What is your communication strategy both inside the museum and on social channels; how did it change, if it did, in this particular period of Covid-19?

Infini.to nasce per raccontare la Scienza e l’Astronomia al pubblico e il suo obiettivo è farlo per tutti, grandi e piccini, neofiti ed esperti. Anche la sua comunicazione, soprattutto quella che passa attraverso i canali social del Museo, va in questa direzione.

La pagina Facebook è nata non solo per segnalare la struttura e gli eventi organizzati, ma per raccontare la scienza e chiacchierare con il pubblico anche in maniera digitale.

Tutto questo è stato potenziato in un periodo in cui siamo stati tutti costretti nelle nostre abitazioni. La nostra voglia di raccontare le meraviglie del cielo non si è mai fermata e il nostro gruppo di lavoro ha messo in piedi un canale digitale nuovo che arriva fino nelle case del nostro pubblico… e non solo.

Abbiamo creato video e attività per i più piccoli, raccontato il cielo attraverso software che tutti noi possiamo

utilizzare sui nostri computer per esplorare il cielo o con un planetario digitale portatile, tirato fuori telescopi e binocoli osservando il cielo dai nostri terrazzi con dirette live o ancora inseguito comete nel loro passaggio ravvicinato alla Terra.

leaf and petal design I tuoi collage sono eccezionali. Sono ambientati in mondi surreali, ma nello stesso tempo hanno un gusto retrò anni ‘50 e ’60. Ci puoi raccontare come è nata questa idea?

Ci sono diversi fattori.

Prima di tutto sono un’artista materica, colleziono centinaia di riviste, libri, cataloghi e cartoline vintage.

Analizzando bene il materiale degli anni

‘50 e ‘60, notai che la corsa allo spazio e le immagini di fantascienza erano molto popolari.

Mi ricordo che in un vecchio numero di National Geographic trovai una scena retò di una spiaggia e nelle pagine seguenti le prime immagini di razzi e di astronauti. Mi è venuto naturale giustapporre queste immagini mentre le ritagliavo.

Your collages are unique and are set in surreal worlds, and at the same time they have a retro 50s and 60s taste. Can you tell us how this idea was born?

It is really a culmination of several factors.

Firstly I’m a material driven artist who has collected hundreds of vintage magazines, books, catalogues and postcards. Looking through this source

material from the 1950s and 1960s, the space race and science fiction imagery was really popular. In a vintage magazine such as an old National Geographic, you might find a retro beach scene and then on the next pages, early pictures of rockets and astronauts. It’s easy to juxtapose those sorts of images when they are cut out in front of you. Secondly, I’ve been influenced by a

stata influenzata da un movimento retrofuturistico-surreale di collage emerso nel 2012, lo trovai affascinante e da lĂŹ ho sviluppato il mio stile.

Collezioni riviste e giornali, quante volte li hai sfogliati? Avrei una curiositĂ , come riesci a ricordarti dove sono le immagini che hai visto, hai un metodo di archiviazione particolare che ci vuoi raccontare?

Ho una biblioteca dove tengo la maggior parte dei libri e riviste; sfoglio costantemente il materiale e spesso contrassegno le pagine con dei post-it colorati.

Moon Bathing

Raggruppo per tema i libri: montagne, architettura, fiori e paesi. Invece per le riviste le tengo raccolte di in ordine di data, ho anche un indice per alcuni titoli, archivio le singole pagine in cassetti, in modo da poter raggruppare gli stessi temi come deserto, paesaggio, spazio, fiori, gemme, animali, ecc.

Sei riuscita a fare della tua arte un lavoro, hai al tuo attivo molte collaborazioni internazionali; quando hai incominciato ad usare il web e come ti sei approcciata al mondo della vendita online delle tue opere? ( trovate le

On my shelves, I have books grouped by theme such as mountains, architecture, flowers or by country. I keep magazine collections in date order and have an index for some titles. I also tear out pages when I see them and file them in drawers, so I can group the same elements together such as desert, landscape, space, flowers, gems, animals, etc.

I prefer to do the artwork rather than the sales, printing and shipping myself. I rarely do limited editions and prefer to make my art accessible and affordable for everyone.

Vero! All’inizio della mia carriera ero un musicista, il mio primo passo nel mondo dell’arte floreale è stato quando ho scoperto la bellezza della connessione tra musica e piante. Sono entrambe effimere e uniche.

Riesci sempre a realizzare tutto quello che immagini?

Cerco sempre di ottenere e raggiungere il mio scopo.

Come è nato il progetto Exobiotanica -Botanical space flight? perché ha dell’incredibile. Dalla tua prima idea quanto tempo è passato prima di realizzare il primo lancio nella stratosfera dal

deserto del Nevada?

Un anno fa, appena prima del progetto Exobiotanica, sono stato in Amazzonia e ho creato diverse opere d’arte floreali con piante piene di vitalità, sono andato nella fitta foresta dove ho potuto concretamente sentire il gemito della madre terra.

Questa è stata un’esperienza per me strabiliante poiché ho veramente “sentito” il richiamo della terra nelle mie composizioni.

Per questo strabiliante progetto EXOBIOTANICA una delle maggiori fonti di ispirazione è stata la mera curiosità, mi sono chiesto: “Cosa succederebbe se mettessi dei fiori nel globo terrestre, cioè proprio nel cielo?”

Yes, I was a musician to begin with. My first step into the world of flower art was where I discovered the beauty in the underlying connection between music and plants. They are both ephemeral and unique.

I always try to achieve.

How was the Exobiotanica -Botanical space flight project born?

Because it seems incredible.How long it takes from your first idea till the launch into the stratosphere from the Nevada desert?

I went to Amazon, Brazil a year ago before Exobiotanica project, and created art pieces with plants that were full of aliveness in dense forest where I could hear groan from the earth.

This was a mindblowing experience since I really felt that I was arranging the plants onto the earth.

For this EXOBIOTANICA project, one of my inspiration sources was curiosity – I asked myself, “what would it happen when I arrange flowers on the globe, from up in the sky?” as a concept that is completely opposite of what I did in Brazil.

I’m very glad to be able to create such opportunity at that time, and that was the begging of “In Bloom” project.

The concept of ‘In Bloom’ project is installing flowers to the place where normally flowers cannot survive,

Il bouquet che avete lanciato è straordinario, era notevolmente grande, aveva un diametro di un metro e mezzo e pesava 6 kg., che difficoltà hai avuto? su che base hai fatto la scelta e la selezione di quei particolari fiori?

Ho associato vari tipi di fiori che normalmente

non vivono insieme nella natura, girasole, orchidea, giglio, foglie di calathea, gerbera e heliconia per citarne alcuni, ho abbinato i fiori del sud con quelli del nord, fiori del deserto e quelli di montagna, perché questo era il bouquet della Terra.

Sono curiosa, ad una temperatura di -43,9 ℃ com’è stato vedere come hanno reagito e come si sono comportati i fiori nella stratosfera?

Quasi sempre uso fiori e piante locali per la grande scultura, quindi, ogni luogo potenzialmente ha la sua vegetazione e il suo carattere. Negli anni ho creato opere d’arte particolari per diverse pubblicità e con alcuni importanti marchi, il progetto “ flower shop KIBOU “, un negozio di fiori mobile aprirà a Tokyo questa estate.

Come ti ho già accennato, voglio continuare a inseguire la bellezza e le molteplici possibilità che offrono i fiori attraverso la mia personalissima espressione d’arte.

of some brands, and “flower shop KIBOU” project which is movable flower shop will open somewhere in Tokyo in coming summer.

As I mentioned, I want to keep continue to pursue the beauty and possibility of flowers through various ways of my expressions.

The Moscow Museum of Cosmonautics is one of the most important points on the map in Russia! It holds the title of the country’s largest scientific and technical museum. The history of the museum began in 1964, when

The idea to create a museum at the base of the monument belongs to the chief designer of the Soviet Union Sergei Pavlovich Korolev. Korolev was the mastermind behind Sputnik, Laika and the efforts of putting the first humans in space. The museum

Così tante persone che fotografavano, si divertivano, è stato un grande momento per noi del museo e un grande momento per condividere la storia della nostra conquista allo spazio.

La casa-museo del capo progettista Sergei Korolev è il nostro museo gemello, è situata a circa 5 minuti a piedi dal museo principale.

Korolev fu il progettista anche del primo satellite creato dall’uomo, per i cani Belka e Strelka e successivamente

The museum’s annual attendance in 2019 was more than 753,000 people. At our museum we hold weekly seminars and meetings with cosmonauts and astronauts, lessons for school children, lectures, concerts, performances, movies and book talks.

During the 2018 World Cup that took place in Russia, our museum was one of the main attractions for foreign tourists among Moscow museums.

We were visited by more than 17.5 thousand people from all over the world! Countries such as Peru, Brazil, Italy, Spain, China, America and many more! Everyday it felt like being in a crowded carnival. So many people taking pictures, having fun, it was a great time for us in the museum and a great time for us to share the history of space.

The house-museum of the chief designer Sergei Korolev is our sister museum. Located about a 5 minute walk from the main museum.

Movea design Ci puoi raccontare come nasce la tua passione per le piante grasse?

La mia passione per le piante grasse è nata nel 2012, quando mi sono trasferita per amore nel Salento. Sono stata letteralmente folgorata da queste enormi piante sparse ovunque e dalle loro bellissime forme, a volte curiose e particolari.

Da li a poco, insieme al mio compagno Cosimo, abbiamo preso spunto da questi cactus per creare un complemento d’arredo originale, per la casa, per l’ufficio o per un negozio. Inizialmente

è nato tutto come hobby, poi con il passare del tempo è diventato un vero e proprio lavoro.

Hai mai visitato un vero deserto?

Can you tell us how was your passion for succulents conceived?

My passion for succulents was born in 2012, when I moved to Salento for love.

Ho avuto la fortuna di visitare il Sahara in Tunisia, un viaggio che ho affrontato molti anni fa, in sella ad una moto Enduro come passeggera.

I was literally struck by these huge plants scattered everywhere and their beautiful shapes, curious and particular sometimes.

Un’esperienza tosta e faticosa da tanti punti di vista ma senza dubbio emozionante e indimenticabile.

Ricordo che per arrivare da una città all’altra

Shortly thereafter, together with my partner Cosimo, we took inspiration from these cacti to create original pieces of furniture for the home, the office or

percorrevamo diversi chilometri di strade asfaltate, circondate dal deserto dove improvvisamente spuntava dal nulla qualche dromedario. E come non dimenticare quelle oasi che si intravedevano all’orizzonte in mezzo alla sabbia, vi assicuro che non era un miraggio… che spettacolo!

Come ti è venuta in mente l’idea di realizzare in stoffa diverse tipologie di piante, spaziando dai cactus alle pale dei fichi d’India fino all’aloe?

Siamo partiti da un concetto molto chiaro, per avere

un prodotto unico e originale ti devi saper distinguere sul mercato.

Volevamo realizzare delle piante artificiali fatte completamente a mano, morbide al tatto e piacevoli da vedere ma che al tempo stesso avessero un effetto realistico, quindi, l’idea di crearle in tessuto ci sembrava perfetta.

Cactusmania: la storia della mia famiglia.

Io sono Annarita Manera e grazie al lavoro e alla passione di mia mamma Neris e di mio papà Bruno tanti anni fa è nata Cactusmania.

La nostra è la storia di una famiglia che da sempre vive con le piante, la mia mamma e il mio papà prima coltivavano asparago ornamentale e poi hanno deciso di coltivare succulente e cactacee.

Il nome Cactusmania

nasce senza troppo pensarci negli anni ’80.

Come tutte queste manie l’azienda è partita con pochi bancali con le semine di Mammillaria e pian piano si sono aggiunte delle collezioni.

Io di certo mi sono punta da piccola perché la passione per le piante grasse ce l’ho da sempre.

La mia vita e la mia passione per le piante mi hanno portata a vivere in Costa Azzurra

My life and my passion for plants led me to live on the French Riviera as a florist when I was very young, then I went

Ho sempre avuto una grande passione per le piante e i fiori così come per le forme e per i colori.

Cercando di trasmettere questa passione all’azienda sono nati numerosi progetti che ci hanno portato a piantare giardini di piante grasse in Costa Azzurra,

vendere piante in Corea, cercare ispirazione in America Latina.

Da sempre lavoro con le piante e da tempo gestisco il lavoro di Cactusmania, un lavoro fatto di grandi soddisfazioni che condivido con la mia famiglia e con il personale che lavora con me.

La nostra è una squadra fatta da persone molto diverse e questa

Mangave® il fenomeno del momento!

Una pianta perfetta per i tempi moderni e per i giardini del futuro grazie alla colorazione delle foglie unica e sempre diversa, grazie alle forme scultoree e alla facilità di coltivazione.

E’ una pianta grassa che non teme il freddo, una perenne che non teme l’asciutto: questo è il sogno che sta alla base delle Mangave®!

Sono in grado di gestire senza problemi sia il sole che l’asciutto, i colori spettacolari saranno

più evidenti se le piante saranno esposte al pieno sole, hanno bisogno di un contenitore capiente perché hanno delle radici forti.

Se si bagnano regolarmente e se sono tenute al caldo crescono molto velocemente.

Se invece vengono lasciate in zone aride ti stupiranno per la loro grande capacità di resistere all’asciutto per molto tempo.
