Blue Tomato x Zumiez Best Foot Forward For the third time Blue Tomato and Zumiez brought the Best Foot Forward Amateur Contest Series to Europe, giving skateboarders the opportunity to compete internationally. Since 2007 Zumiez is looking for the best and most promising amateur skateboarders, while providing them exposure on a global level. The Best Foot Forward Tour can be a kick start for a professional career in skateboarding. The winner of each stop receives an all-expenses paid trip to the Zumiez Best Foot Forward Finals in the U.S., where they will compete on a global level, get in touch with the top brands of the industry and connect with other riders and sponsors. Overall top three finalists will win an all-expenses paid one-week road trip, including video sessions at famous skate spots, access to the top private skate parks, exclusive experience with industry leading brands and their top pros, sponsorships and much more. Many winners of the past years have reached the top of the skateboarding world. Skateboarders like Jack Olson, Alec Majerus and Chris Wimer have won the Best Foot Forward Tour in previous years. Two of the most successful former winners are Tom Asta and Ishod Wair, who are now competing in the top class of skateboarding.

Which size deck for me?

When you look for a skateboard deck, width is the most important determiner. It is measured in inches and always appears in the product name. The right size of board for you will depend on your height, your shoe size and what terrain you want to ride. Generally speaking, narrower widths are for smaller riders, women and kids. If you are taller, heavier or have larger feet, a wider deck will be more stable for you.

Which skateboard concave is the best for me?

If you look at a deck from the front, you can see curve between the edges this is the concave of the board. It affects how your feet stand on the deck and the performance of your skateboard. Broadly there are three types which differ in height. Low concave - stability for bowls, mini ramp and vert A low concave is better in the halfpipe, mini ramp and for pool riding. It has the most stability for riding big features such as the halfpipe or just cruising. Medium concave - ‘just right’ A medium concave is ‘just right’ for a lot of riders. It is still easy to flip but has more stability for riding mini ramp and vert. High concave - great for flips A high concave is the most aggressive curve. It is easier to exert pressure on the edges, making technical flip tricks easier.

"Hi guys, I'm Marco Kada, Blue Tomato Team Rider, and I'm going to show you how to Ollie, Kickflip and Treflip "

“You have to be in a pretty basic position with your feet and then the main thing is to put a lot of pressure onto your back foot until the tail hits the ground. Then you need to immediately push forward your front foot so your board gets into the air.

When you are about to land, just make sure to have your feet in the same basic position to land safely.

“Make sure your front foot is a little bit on the outside of your board and a bit in front of the front bolts. Your back foot should be in the middle of the tail. As always, just make sure to put a lot of pressure on your tail and as the skateboard hits the ground, flick your front foot with a lot of power to the left (or right, if you are Goofy). Don’t do it too much to the side but more in a leftish (or rightish) direction in front of you so it does the (Kick)flip.

When you see the griptape again, make sure to catch the board and land properly on it.”

“It was pretty hard for me to do Treflips properly and it took me a lot of time to get them safe. Actually, your back foot is in the very right pocket of your board. Make sure your toes are hanging a bit off the board so you have the foot really in the pocket to be able to

put a lot of pressure into it and scoop the board around. Make sure your front foot just does a little flick because the rest of the flip will come automatically. After the board flips, make sure to catch

it first with your front foot and then put your other foot on it again. That’s it! It may take some time to learn them properly, but if you have them safe, they are really fun to do.” Have fun!
