name. During his racing days, he found himself alongside snowboarding legends such as Peter Bauer, Shaun Palmer, Jeff Brushie and Craig Kelly. As a Burton team rider, Gerfried even surfed pow with Jake Burton from time to time. Gerfried’s passion for boardsports was the foundation on which the Blue Tomato Snowboard School was founded in 1988. The school quickly grew to be the largest snowboard school in Austria at that time and was the start for a true success story that continues to this day.

1991

”Gerry‘s Garage“ - the most famous garage in the area. It was small, just under 25 m², but Gerfried sold everything a snowboarder could wish for. From his mum‘s garage he sold snowboards, boots, bindings, snowwear and streetwear. Riders from all over the region flocked to the shop as snowboarding became more and more established. Soon it became a community.

1994

THE FIRST BLUE TOMATO SHOP

In 1994, the first official Blue Tomato Shop evolving from ”Gerry‘s Garage“ opened its doors. For the first time, there was a real snowboard shop in the area – the news spread like crazy. The selection gradually increased, while the reputation grew and grew. The shop sold everything from hardgoods, snowwear and streetwear to cool accessories.

1999

THE FIRST WEBSHOP

The massive potential of online trade was recognised early and the first basic Blue Tomato webshop was launched in 1999. Today we count up to 125,000 daily visits.

BLUE TOMATO BOOKS

2002

We launched our first print catalogue. Now, we have Summer, Streetstyles and Winter Books sent to 900,000 people in four different languages.

2012

BLUE TOMATO CONTINUES TO GROW To best serve our customers, we continuously update our online shop and we frequently open new shops across Europe.

TRICK TIPS Hello my name is Julia Brückler, I‘m a Blue Tomato Team Rider and today I‘m going to try to teach you some tricks.

BS 50-50 ”So a BS 50-50 is a pretty basic ledge trick. All you got to be able to do before you start practicing that is a good Ollie. That‘s the basic trick for pretty much every other thing, so make sure you‘ve got those.

try to move back. Once you are comfortable with that, go to a ledge. It should be a small ledge, the smaller the ledge the easier it‘s going to be and approach it with a slight angle you can almost go parallel. But a little bit of an angle makes it easier I think.

It might seem really difficult at first but once you figure it out it‘s not that hard. So in my experience what really helps is if you just look for a line or something on the floor and just put yourself right in front of the line and try actually jump backwards. It‘s really going to help you to figure out that movement of jumping back because that‘s something that you probably have not done before. It can be a line, it can be a shoe lace, it can be anything it really doesn‘t matter and really try just pop backwards like a parallel shifting up the board.

Then just think of what you did on flat ground. At first I would say just really don‘t aim for the edge, just try to make it onto the box. If you‘ve made that, that‘s like a super big goal already. Make sure as always that you‘re centered over the board. Don‘t lean back to much, don‘t lean forward to much or you going to slip out and we really want to try to avoid that. Once you are comfortable with just jumping onto the ledge obviously you can start aiming for the actual edge and get into that grind. Always you can either go fast and grind it till the end or you can just pop off early.

The key to that are your hips. Obviously you have to use your shoulders a little bit for the rotation but it‘s mostly in your hips. You kind of like shift your hips backwards a little bit and just

How you do that: You just have your back foot on the tail, push down a little bit and do like a little shoulder twist. So you can pop off and be happy.“

BS 5-0 ”A BS 5-0 is a pretty basic ledge trick.What you should be able to do before that? Obviously Ollies and BS 50-50s. If you don’t know how to do BS 50-50 yet, no problem at all. There is another video, just go on Blue Tomato‘s YouTube and just search for the BS 50-50 tutorial, because that is really really the basic trick that you need before you should start the BS 5-0. For the BS 5-0 the foot positioning is pretty much the same as the BS 50-50, the angle is the same, all you want to do differently now is obviously you want to lean in the right position. So what you got to do is you have to shift your weight to the back and also you have to put your back foot really onto that tail. The tricky part is you want to push down and lean back a little

bit so you get into that position but you don’t want to push down and lean back too hard because then you going to slide out and we definitely want to avoid that. So that is something that you will just have to try a few times to get more comfortable. Then once you get comfortable with jumping onto the ledge, just try to go a little bit faster with every single try and then as with the BS 50-50 you can either do it till the end, you can also start with doing it really short first just go like quick or you can just do it longer and you can pop off to the side if you want. All you got to do for that is just open up your shoulders a little bit and you going to automatically like pop off. That’s it, that’s the BS 5-0.“

BS TAILSLIDE

That‘s the BS Tailslide.“

For a BS Tailslide I approach the ledge pretty parallel. I have my front foot a little bit shifted back and I also have my front foot turned a little bit. I don‘t know if that is something you want to do. I would recommend just pretend you are doing a BS 180 and that is how you going to put your front foot. Your back foot is just going to be like centered in the middle of the board so you can get a good pop.

The part most people are struggeling with is the timing. You want to make sure you pop first and only when you have like Ollied high enough that is when you going to turn. Make sure that your back foot and especially your toes are really really nicely in the pocket, this is where you going to push. Then of course you going to lean forward, you got to really really push back so you actually got a good sliding motion and when you get that done and you want to pop off, all you going to do is open up your shoulders again roll away and be happy.

”For a BS Tailslide obviously you should be able to do a BS 50-50, a BS 5-0 would help too and also would be really important that you got a good BS 180.

SKATEPARK MARIBOR Since 2019, Maribor has the largest skatepark in the region. The park is unique and creatively combines the street section with a bowl and a snake run. There’s something for everyone here. The skatepark is completely managed by a local skateboard crew that welcomes visitors from different sports and regions of the world. Besides a skate school, events like the És Game Of Skate, National Championships and this year for the first time the Best Foot Forward Tour are held.

SKATE HALL INNSBRUCK The Skatehalle Innsbruck opened its doors in 2011 and since then it is the biggest indoor skate location in Austria. On 2,000 m² the hall offers the skateboard scene a balanced mix of street park and classic park elements like bowl, miniramp, wallride and much more. The modern infrastructure of the skate hall allows for various types of events and is therefore also a regular venue for top international skateboarding events. The 2,000 m² are open all year round and the entrance fees are affordable for everyone!

SPACEFORSKATE MUNICH After more than 12 years, the first indoor skate hall opens in the heart of Munich, directly in the Kreativquartier near Dachauer Straße. For everyone. For skateboarding. THE CRADLE THE CRADLE SKATEPARK BRIXLEGG The infamous “The Cradle Skatepark” in Brixlegg, Austria is well known for its big bowl and cool events. The local skatepark crew got together during the lockdown last summer to connect the upper part of the bowls to the streetpark. Thus, the whole park is now rideable all around.
