Alas, the year is coming to a close celebrating exciting successes for the community. This year, we’re proud to announce our accomplishments thanks to the artists, students and community. We exhibited world recognized artists such as Greg Kondos, Mya Louw, Gong Yuebin and many more, along with the largest membership show in the history of the organization. By featuring our long standing 22nd high school show and 13th annual middle school show and the many youth exhibits that followed, Blue Line Arts was able to showcase more than 250 young artists.

Our partnerships with the Art League of Lincoln, the Crocker-Kingsley Club, the Roseville City School District, the Roseville Chamber of Commerce, Sierra College and Sacramento State University grew support for the arts in the community.

This year, we not only increased our volunteerism support with more than 100 volunteers and thousands of volunteer hours, we also fully staffed Blue Line to serve our members, artists and community.

The art in public places program grew as well-with member artists showcasing their work in Peg’s Glorified Ham & Eggs, the Roseville Chamber of Commerce, Oracle, Paramount Equity and Sutter Health.

Blue Line Arts emerged into the local businesses to feature great opportunity for artists and art lovers alike.

Finally, more than 26,000 participants were served and walked through the doors this year-a truly remarkable accomplishment!

JULIE HIROTA Julie serves behind the scenes and in the community as the CEO for Blue Line Arts, and joined the organization in 2010. Her experience in management in fortune 500 companies combined with her love for the community and the arts allows Blue Line Arts to continue to serve the region with programming for every student, artist, adult and grandparent.

KATHLEEN MAZZEI Kathleen is an art studio graduate from The College of Wooster and started at Blue Line Arts in 2011 as an intern. She’s a wood crafts expert, keeps the office in order as the Operations Manager and is the “glue” that keeps the wheels spinning at Blue Line Arts. If no one has the answer, Kathleen probably does.

KATIE CURLER Katie is an art history graduate from Sacramento State University and came to Blue Line Arts in 2012 as a volunteer working on youth exhibits.

Her experience from working at the Crocker Art Museum has brought great professionalism to our programming.

Katie’s vision ad the Educational Coordinator has given Blue Line Arts outstanding exhibits for the WestPark Gallery and mind opening youth educational programming-now the best in the region.

LORI CARDOZA Lori has a degree in nutrition and came to Blue Line Arts in 2012 as a dedicated volunteer, adding excellent service to our 3rd Saturday cocktail hour. Her work as a volunteer in her church has streamlined our volunteering programs and her enthusiastic smile is perfect as our Membership and Development Coordinator.

TONY NATSOULAS Tony is our expert Curator for the Coker Family Gallery and has been named one of the top 100 artists in the nation. His dedication to improving the quality of shows, highlighting cutting edge art and enthusiastically pursuing new ideas and works for Blue Line Arts keeps the gallery fresh with excitement.

LANG LEW Lang is our resident, volunteer photographer, prolific painter and mechanical engineer by profession.

His abilities to photograph the perfect moments at Blue Line Arts along with his diligent support of our IT systems have provided Blue Line the ability to promote our successes and keep our computers running.

Go to as many art shows as you can to not only look at art, but to see where peoples prices are at in your same level of career development as you are. Don’t have the precious artwork syndrome, where you don’t want to sell the piece because you are afraid you won’t make anything as good again. The next piece is always better.

WESTPARK WORKSHOPGALLERY “Feast for the Eyes” will feature artworks depicting culinary delights from 30 emerging artists. A theme seen throughout time beginning in the Renaissance era, food in art has been explored by the masters, such as Giuseppe Arcimboldo in his portrait of Emperor Rudolph II. Expect to see traditional portrayals of food as well as innovative uses of food as medium in this exhibit, which is sure to be a feast for the eyes!

We celebrated our five year anniversary at our Vernon Street location. Over 200 people joined us in celebrating this exciting occasion!

The party included invigorating speaks from both our Board President and CEO. Also unveiled was our name change to Blue Line Arts, which included the new blue dot that has come to represent our brand.

Spring brought out the dedicated Gregory Kondos and Mya Louw art fans, with the stellar exhibit of their artwork that was featured in the Coker Family Gallery.

In this exhibit, Louw’s original oil painting landscapes contrasted nicely with Kondos’ giclee prints.

Highlighted was also the release of Kondos’s first ever book written by Crocker Art Museum’s Chief Curator, Scott Shields. A Touch of Blue included an entire look at Kondos’ career as an artist with over 200 expansive images.

At the same time we were displaying Kondos’ work here at the gallery, he had concurrent shows at the Crocker Art Museum and Sacramento City Gallery, making for an intensive city-wide celebration of a local legend and one we were happy to be a part of.

The Exclusive Preview Night was one for the record books with over 300 people in the galleries to hear from both artists. We also sold out of Kondos’ book that night!

The annual High School Competition brought out over 50 works of contemporary art from local juniors and seniors. Three students walked away with top awards and bragging rights. Special thanks goes out the Myron Stephens, teacher at Granite Bay High School who’s passion for art carries to his vary talented students.

Ceramic works took over the galleries with “Totems & Plates“, “America’s ClayFest“, & “Ceracom”. Contemporary works made certain that every visitor received an eyefull of interesting.

Summer exploded with ongoing art camps. Education Coordinator, Katie Curler took a creative approach to fabric fun while looking toward finished products at the end of each day to satisfy every parent.

A favorite of the kids was the “Yarn Bombing,“ a contemporary art expression where an everyday object in this case a bicycle was wrapped in fabric.

JULY 2013

“Artistic Architects” expanded on the combined ideas of city building and animation in a week long intensive camp. Kids were questioned on the different styles and approaches to city planning, along with the ideal of public art around every corner.

The annual Robert C. Cooley Middle School was another dynamic example of a teacher in our community dedicated to expanding the minds of young students within our community.

This show is made possible by the amazing students ages twelve to fourteen from Jeff Blanchard’s class.

The Art in the Middle show highlights the students expressive ideas in linoleum block, and foam prints, as well as a few of our signature charcoal and graphite portraits to mention a few.

Hats off to another excellent show and can’t wait for 2014’s show.

One date change later, Starry Starry Night became the heavy hitter in the community.

With such names as Ed Goldman, The Republicrats, & performer David Garibaldi in support, it was no contest this fundraiser was the most sucessful event of the year.

Our annual fundraiser this year also celebrated its 5th year annivsery, growing in both the number of art works donated and revenue. Special thanks to attendees for showing up after just having another event two weeks prior. Not to mention the volunteers who came back out to support us as well.

Lang Lew is a self-taught photographer & artist based in Roseville, CA; he began photographing for Blue Line Arts in fall of 2011.

His work is seen across multiple local media outlets in both print and online and is a regular contributor to Placer Valley Tourism, Gold Country Media, Roseville Chamber of Commerce, Roseville Parks & Recreation, and Style magazine.

Michelle Andres is a coach, writer, artist and corporate refugee.

MOMENTUM Financial & Institutional Progress

In the life of an institution that opened its doors in 1969, two years is only a snippet of a varied history. But a look back at the last two years can also tell a journey all its own, and for Blue Line Arts, the story is of major hurdles, steady growth, and a gathering momentum toward the future.

Perhaps the most apparent momentum of our institution is the growth in the amount of visitors to our gallery. We saw visitation grow to over 26,000, up exponentially from years previous. Our strategic focus of the past year has been a critical investment in not only the staffing and facility needs, but a decisive approach to strategic partnerships within and outside of the arts community. A prime example is the collaboration with the Arts League of Lincoln for the America’s ClayFest exhibition in the spring. By partnering with this organization, we were able to bring a stellar, international ceramics exhibit to the region, doubling visitors attendance per day at our door.

Blue Line Arts is, at its core, a place of art, learning, and exploration. We are also a community non-profit organization with 2 full-time and 2 part-time staff, 2 contract workers, 100 active volunteers and interns, and 15 Board of Directors plugging away at an elaborate mission for the South Placer public. None of which would be possible without the dedicated volunteers and interns who completed over 1,000 hours in the past year, not to mention another 400 hours committed to our major events.

A look at the new year brings more exciting aims for Blue Line Arts; for instance, we will be launching an after-school art program with students at Vencil Brown Elementary School, a winter/spring music series, and a highly anticipated “Politically Incorrect” exhibit in the fall. As a non-profit organization, we look to the Board of Directors each new year for a strategic focus to reaffirm the mission of Blue Line Arts.

Two overarching key objectives take shape for 2014: • To strengthen the foundation of our giving sources and purposes.

• Demonstrate more effectively to the public our passion in providing quality contemporary art education for all ages.

As a resident of Sacramento since 1976, I consider Blue Line to be an easy, richly rewarding destination—and hope that my fellow ‘flatlanders’ will agree it’s worth the 25-minute drive. Art should never be provincial.”

As visitors to art galleries and museums, we’ve always had to fight the urge to reach out and touch the artwork we’re admiring, but this exhibit allows for the exact opposite--we’re encouraging artists to create tactile artworks for our visitors to enjoy. We’d like visitors to be able to pick up, touch, and play with your artworks to create a tactile artistic experience.

Where Do I Begin?

Decorating Workshop Presented by Lynne Pearce Hosted by

Sun. Jan. 19, 2014 4:30PM – 6:30PM Do you have a room in your house that you have been wanting to makeover but you just don’t know where to begin? Or maybe you just moved into a new house and you are needing a nudge to get you started in the right direction. Whatever decorating project you have been putting off, this is the workshop for you. Lynne will take you through the steps to create a master plan to help you design the room of your dreams. By using the same process she uses with her own clients, she will show you how to: 1. Fine tune your personal style so you can shop with confidence.

2. Create a functional floor plan based on how the room will be used, utilizing

your measurements and templates provided by Lynne.

3. Create a color scheme that you will be able to carry with you when you shop.

4. Avoid Lynne’s list of top 10 decorating mistakes.

5. Create a mood board that you will be able to take home with you to provide

inspiration as you complete your space.

The cost of the workshop is $45, which includes floor plan templates, color tools, Lynne’s list of Top 10 Decorating Mistakes and materials to create your own mood board. We ask that you bring pictures of your room, as well as complete measurements. If you have already started clipping or pinning inspirational photos for your room, feel free to bring those too. You will receive a $45 gift certificate upon completion of the workshop which may be used towards an in-home consultation with Lynne.

The class size is limited so reservations are required. Reservations will be confirmed when payment has been received. Payment is non-refundable, but may be used toward future workshops if unable to attend. For reservations and more information, send an email to lynne@lynnepearce.com.
