SUMMER CAMPS AND WORKSHOPS AMERICA’S CLAYFEST III

Work by Susan Cooley-Gilliom Artist in Residence and Teaching Program recipient: Sergei Isupov ‘Seeds’

From the CEO.... Blue Line Arts has been packed with phenomenal exhibits and exciting events this Spring! We were honored to display the private collection of Russ Solomon, Tower Records founder and long-time advocate of the arts. The vividly colorful works of Gary Pruner and Jack Ogden brightened the gallery, while works depicting the Tower Records first buildings filled many with nostalgia. =

Year after year, through the generosity of our artist community, the caliber of works continues to rise and so does the success of the annual Lottery for the Arts. The sold-out evening was filled with friendly competition, helping Blue Line raise over $32,000 for programming and you! We were thrilled to have internationally recognized artist Sergei Isupov call our children’s gallery home. Made possible through the Susan Cooley-Gilliom Artist in Residence and Teaching Program, over the three weeks of his stay, Sergei provided inspirational work. His workshop on expressive sculpture received exciting reviews from attendees. Sergei’s work is currently on view in America’s ClayFest III through May 30th.

Continuing the tradition, in partnership with the Art League of Lincoln, we are proud to display America’s ClayFest III, premiere art competition. This year’s exhibit features both national and international artists. The exhibit runs side by side with Purposeful Pottery, as well as in coordination with exhibits throughout our region to celebrate the art form of working with clay. I look forward to a summer full of programming and museum-quality art. I thank all of you who have been so active in our events and in giving this year. You are Blue Line Arts!

Thank you,

Julie Hirota CEO, Blue Line Arts

QUESTIONS FOR THE CURATOR Hi Folks! Send any questions you have about the “Art” world to tony@bluelinearts.org and I will try my best to answer them. If I can not I will find the answer amongst my friends and contacts.

Q&A What is the best way to photograph a 3D piece of art? Well, the best way is to hire a professional. But if you do not want to do that here are the basic rules.. 1. Put the work of art on a contrasting piece of paper. Dark on light, light on dark. 2. The paper should not be wrinkled and should be clean. 3. Make sure you have a tripod when you take the picture, you want the image to be as clear as possible. 4. Have the light come from the top. You want it filtered in some way. I use a florescent light, but then I color correct in Photoshop. You can use sunlight, but make sure it is not direct. You do not want harsh shadows. 5. Fill your lens with the artwork. Do not make us work to see it.

The most important thing about the picture of your 3D artwork is it should be a clean and clear as possible, without any distractions. 7 • Blue Line Arts Magazine • bluelinearts.org

GOOD BYE FROM KATHLEEN Thank you to the entire Blue Line Arts community. It has been a crazy journey from starting out as an intern to reaching the gallery manager position. I am truly blessed to have had this experience and will miss everyone from the artists, to volunteers, and patrons that have made this experience both astounding and educational. I will never forget Blue Line Arts not to mention the amazing staff and all they have taught me. Special thanks to Julie our CEO, for taking me on as a marketing intern in the very beginning when I had no professional experience. I will truly miss this community of remarkable people.
