1ST PLACE MARK WEBSTER “ANAMORPHOSIS FROM THE OUTSIDE IN”
From the CEO....
It was a wonderful opportunity to see the San Francisco Modern Museum of Art before it’s temporary closing (June 2) and the special exhibit “The Girl with the Pearl Earring” at the de Young Museum before it moves (June 2). While visiting, I was rewarded with the beauty of two amazing spaces, while reflecting on the stunning artists that exhibit at Blue Line Arts each month. Though smaller in scale, the gallery features artists who’s work measures remarkably in comparison. In June, Blue Line Arts will present Art Deco Reimagined through a partnership with the Sacramento Art Deco Society and Layered and Stitched through a partnership with Studio Art Quilt Associates. These shows are surely going to inspire us and reward us with renewed enthusiasm for yet more unique works of art.

Just ahead, the deadline for the annual membership show, Masterpiece Medley will consume the gallery with works of art from our esteemed membership artist. The show will again be cataloged and preservedplease don’t miss your opportunity as an artist to show your work; it’s likely to be our largest membership show to date. As well, I’d like you to join me in thanking Walmart for hosting another fabulous golf tournament (June 3) benefiting Blue Line Arts and the Children’s Miracle Network at Catta Verdera in Lincoln. It’s sure to be an amazing event, and much welcomed support from our community partners. Finally, it’s with great disappointment that I share the postponement of Starry Starry Night. Due to an artist scheduling problem that recently arose, Starry Starry Night featuring David Garibaldi has been postponed to September 27. We will honor tickets already purchased, if a refund is requested, we would be happy to provide a full refund. We appreciate your continued support and interest and look forward to seeing you at the gallery. I look forward to seeing you this summer as we kick off another feature of spectacular work.

ARTIST MEMBER PROFILE James Hirschinger and Imi Lehmbrock-Hirschinger are the ultimate artistic couple. For the past forty years, they have worked together as artists and educators throughout the United States and as far away as Germany. As the founders and owners of Ibex Fine Art, they now specialize in bringing great art to commercial settings throughout the Sacramento Valley and beyond. Imi spent ten years working with clay, but ultimately found her passion in painting. Her explorations of microscopic worlds and aerial landscapes led to the style she is known for today. Her colorful large-scale oil paintings depict the patchwork geography and winding waterways of the Sacramento Valley, encapsulating the sense of awe one often feels when flying over California’s sprawling agricultural landscapes. James shares Imi’s appreciation for the natural world, but prefers to focus on the details. His photographs depict the otherworldly geography of 14 • Blue Line Arts Magazine • bluelinearts.org
places that often go unnoticed or unvisited, like the pitted, moon-like sandscapes of Point Lobos or the vivid stripes of light that populate a gently undulating lake at sunset. His architectural photographs call the viewer’s attention to the unique juxtapositions of line and color that characterize the urban environment.
James Hirschinger & Imi Lehmbrock-Hirschinger James and Imi have been involved with Blue Line Arts for several years, and were heavily involved in the design and planning of our current space at 405 Vernon Street. They are tremendous fans of the Blue Line Arts Artist Directory webpage for its success in helping them reach out to clients throughout the world. As steadfast advocates for education, they are also enthusiastic supporters of the unique visual art and music programming that Blue Line Arts has made available to children Placer and Sacramento counties. To see more work by James and Imi, check out their portfolios in the Blue Line Artist directory at www.bluelinearts.org. -Lauren Hostetter Membership Coordinator

ADULT WORKSHOP SERIES The Art of Color in Cloth: Constructing Small Batik Watercolor Quilts with PIXELADIES If you ask quilt artists why they work with fabric, they’ll almost always tell you it’s because they can feel and touch it. You’ll also notice that the interplay of color is just as important in this medium as it is in others. Watercolor quilts have a long tradition in the art quilt medium. They show gradual color changes to give an impressionistic feel. On the other hand, batik fabrics are noted for their pattern and color variations. These local artists have designed this workshop to allow participants to work with fabric while gaining greater understanding of how color works as a design element. Each workshop participant will create an 8 3/4” x 11 1/4” art quilt out of pre-cut and pre-fused batik fabrics. The finished art quilt can be matted and framed or hung as is.
