From the CEO....

April was quite an eventful month, and May has so much more to offer! Once again, artists who donated to the 6th Annual Lottery for the Arts deserve a warm thank you! Your commitment to the arts and supporting Blue Line Arts serves as the backbone of the organization. This year, the work was the most remarkable yet. We hope you will continue to keep Blue Line Arts in your future. Once again, our music series has proven to be something you all want. Ricky Berger was a fabulous story teller, and watching and listening to her perform was unforgettable. Don’t forget to save the dates for more music beginning in August. =

The second annual America’s ClayFest opened in April and runs through May with more than 75 stunning pieces of clay work, from around the globe. Combined with ClayFest, the Susan Cooley-Gilliom Artist in Residency Teaching Program hosted through the Placer Community Foundation brought world famous clay artist, Tip Toland to Blue Line Arts-with two incredible workshops and lectures. Several other clay work, in conjunction with America’s ClayFest can be seen as well. For a full portfolio of clay visit our website at http://www.bluelinearts.org/exhibits/exhibits.html. Finally, please visit “Vestiges” by Marianne Bland, showcasing her one woman show in the WestPark Gallery Wing. As a resident from the community, you’ll recognize familiar scenes and locations. Her work with color and detail sings. As a tribute to our youth artists, Cooley Middle School will show their best works once again, transforming their ideas into art. These creative students’ work is something that will leave you wanting more! Visit us today. Julie Hirota

CURATOR’S CORNER I took the Tip Toland workshop at Blue Line Arts and it made me realize something about making art. For some reason artists think we should be able to do make art the minute we become an “artist”. If we compare the art disciplines to fine art, you find musicians “practicing” scales, writers “learning” how to spell and put sentences together. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves when we try to make a piece of art without the knowledge of how to use a medium or how to come up with ideas. Comments from a curator- study the masters and practice a lot. You can’t break the rules until you know what they are.
