Blue Machinery appointed as new dealers for Morbark

We are delighted to announce that Blue Machinery have been appointed as the exclusive distributors for the Morbark brand across the UK and Ireland. The new agreement means that Blue Scotland, Blue Central, Blue Southern and Blue Ireland will now supply Morbark’s industrial product range within the regions in which they operate.

Based out of Winn, Michigan, Morbark LLC has been innovating and manufacturing durable, high-performance equipment since 1957. With more than 60 years of ideas, invention, and phenomenal growth, Morbark is now widely recognised as the number one brand globally.

Morbark’s industrial range includes a wide collection of premium horizontal grinders and chippers which complement Blue Machinery’s current portfolio of world leading brands, including Doppstadt and Fuchs – A Terex Brand. These new product lines will help us to bolster our offering to customers within existing recycling markets, who require machines with higher horsepower and throughput, whilst also enabling the planned expansion into the forestry sector. As well as being able to supply Morbark’s range of mobile machines, Blue Machinery will also be able to offer static, electric grinders and chippers.

Blue Spares have now become the authorised supplier of genuine OEM parts across the UK and Ireland for the full Morbark industrial range. They have parts stocked ready to

service existing Morbark customers from both their Warrington and Stirling depots, which collectively hold an inventory of over £5million. Their dedicated team of parts experts offer customers 24/7/365 availability to keep their machines up and running.

Blue Machinery acquired the dealership from previous distributors Steel Viper and are working closely with them throughout the transition period. The teams from sales, service and spare parts are all undergoing a training programme on the Morbark product range. Director at Steel Viper, David Harper, comments: “It’s been a pleasure supplying the world leading Morbark brand over the last 6 years, however, we recognise that Blue Machinery provide an opportunity to take the brand to the next level within the market. Our existing Morbark customers will benefit significantly from Blue Machinery’s localised service, sales and spare parts. I would like to thank all our customers for their continued business and support over the years, and we wish Blue Machinery every success for the future”.

4 Blue Mail | Winter 2022

Managing Director at Blue Scotland, Austin Carey, comments: “We are delighted to have concluded commercial terms with David Harper at Steel Viper to become the new dealers for Morbark. In October Blue Machinery’s regional directors had an excellent visit to the very impressive 1,000,000 square foot Morbark facilities in Michigan. We met the Morbark senior Management team and had time to discuss where the opportunities exist in UK & Irish markets. Our strategy is to expand our existing customer base by entering the forestry and sawmill markets where we will be adding additional products to complement the Morbark range. Our six regional depots provide a national footprint, meaning that we are well positioned to stock a large inventory of machines and spare parts to give maximum uptime to our customers. We have an excellent opportunity to heavily penetrate the market, and we plan to allocate extensive resources towards establishing the brand and fulfilling its potential in the UK and Ireland. We are excited to meet all the existing Morbark customers and welcome some new ones along our journey.”

Michael Stanton, VP of Sales and Marketing at Morbark, adds: “The addition of Blue Group, which has a long history of offering premium support for both sales and aftermarket, aligns with our desire to be partnered with the very best organisations globally. We look forward to working closely with Blue Group, who will provide the opportunity to grow our brand across the UK and Ireland”.

Trio of Powerscreen machines go to work at Tilbury 2 for KKB

Based in Rochester, Kent, and supported by satellite sites to provide nationwide coverage, KKB Group are specialists in providing niche services to the remediation, recycling, plant hire, plant sales, specialist demolition hire and civil engineering sectors.

6 Blue Mail | Winter 2022

In 2021 KKB Group were appointed to carry out crushing and screening of all incoming aggregates for one of their clients operating out of Tilbury 2. Tilbury 2 is London’s fastest growing port and the UK’s largest construction materials aggregates terminal. The site acts as a hub for materials required across London and surrounding areas, with the riverside location enabling the easy import of raw materials and facilitates the use of the River Thames as a delivery route for processed construction materials.

The company run a large fleet of crushing & screening equipment, recently investing in a trio of new Powerscreen machines from Blue Machinery Southern. A 1300 Maxtrak cone crusher, a Chieftain 1700X screen and Chieftain 2200 screen were delivered to the Tilbury 2 site in November. The new machines are processing blasted sandstone, which arrives pre-crushed before being fed into the 1300 Maxtrak. The Chieftain 1700X and 2200 are producing single size aggregates to be used in asphalt and concrete production.

Based on the 1300 Automax, the 1300 Maxtrak mobile cone crusher excels in the production of sub-base or aggregates, provides excellent cubicity, throughput and reduction ratios. With throughput up to 350 tph and a highly fuel-efficient direct drive system, the 1300 Maxtrak is a leader in its class.

Built on the success of the original Powerscreen Chieftain 1700 incline screener, the new model has many new features that offer customers greatly increased throughput with significantly improved fuel efficiency. One of the new benefits is the patented 4 bearing screen box configuration as standard, giving an extremely aggressive box with 17.5% more G force than its predecessor. For those preferring a 2-bearing setup, the new 1700X can easily be quickly converted to a 2-bearing machine, giving exceptional versatility. Powered by a Stage V compliant CAT 4.4 engine, the 1700X screener consumes on average between 10 and 15% less fuel.

The Powerscreen Chieftain 2200 3 deck screen is designed for operators who require large volumes of high specification products with maximum versatility. Its patent pending drive system allows switching between 2 and 4 bearing with bolt-on parts. By splitting up into two individual boxes, the Chieftain 2200 3 deck can run aggressively without the constraints of a larger box. The machine is equipped with heavy duty single shaft screen boxes with adjustable stroke, angle, and speed.

Andy Shaw, Contract Crushing and Aggregate Recycling Director at KKB Group, adds his thoughts on Blue – “We have been building a great relationship with Blue and Matt Scott, I have no doubt that the purchase of these machines for our crushing & screening fleet will stand us in good stead. After a comprehensive UK market review of available equipment and taking into consideration productivity, fuel consumption and cost, Blue machinery was our preferred bidder. The availability of parts and product knowledge at their Spares company was a big factor for us”.

Screen all year round with MDS

With the recent spell of wet weather in November, many had to park up their screens whilst waiting for the rain to pass. Where most other machines fail during the wet conditions, the MDS range of trommels excel, allowing you to process material all year round.

8 Blue Mail | Winter 2022

The range consists of 3 tracked trommels and 2 static trommels, primarily used in such applications as recovering rocks from overburden, cleaning off sticky clay from rocks, riprap/armour rocks, processing blasted rocks up to 800mm in size, recycling steel waste and incinerated bottom ash (IBA).

Casey Plant recently purchased their second MDS 412 Trommel from Blue Central. This unit was fitted with a chassis riser which allows higher stockpiling, whilst also allowing Casey to manoeuvre their wheel loaders around the machine more easily. Ian Todd, UK Sales Manager at MDS, commented: “One of the key selling features of the M412 trommel was the low transport height. The M412 sits right under 3.1m and though this is a great advantage when transporting the unit from one location to another, dealer and customer feedback was that it left overall stockpile heights shorter than what was needed on all the conveyors. Our engineering team had a close look at this issue and came up with a solution - the Chassis Riser. This option is now available on all future orders for the M412 and for the new M413 unit.”

The M412 trommel may be the smallest in the MDS range, but it boasts an impressive output of up to 300 tonnes per hour, with an effective screening area of nearly 100 sq. ft. The machine has recently been out on hire to the Sirius Group, working on a major remediation project. Service Manager at Casey Plant, Jonathan Mills commented: “Our customers have been very impressed with the M412. We see a lot of potential for the unit, especially on remediation work. It handles oversized, wet and sticky material, which comes up very clean. Having a clean material means that we can crush it easier and quicker”. The M412 drums can come in two configurations. Customers have the option of a drum frame with changeable screens or a fully welded drum, although the drum cleaners only work with fully welded drums. Jonathan at Casey Plant, adds: “The unit is powered by a Cat 2.2 67hp engine which is very economical on fuel and its compact size means it is easy to transport from one customer to another, so all in all, we are very happy with the M412 and with the service and support we have received from Blue Central.”

Blue Machinery represent the MDS brand across Scotland, North England and Central England. Both Blue Scotland and Blue Central have MDS Trommels in stock and available. Get in

10 reasons to run Rammer breakers in your fleet

Blue Machinery and Murray Plant (A Blue Scotland Company) are the exclusive UK dealers for the Rammer brand. This includes the full range of Rammer Hammers, the world’s leading and most respected brand for hydraulic hammer attachments.

Rammer are known for their range of powerful, productive and durable hydraulic attachments that are suitable for carriers in the 0.6-120 tons operating weight class. Here are 10 reasons to run Rammer breakers within your fleet.

1. Unmatched innovation & reliability

Rammer have been manufacturing hydraulic hammers for over 40 years and have been a world leader since their inception in 1978. The Rammer brand reputation is built on quality, reliability and innovation.

2. Two product lines using two different technologies

Rammer’s offering is split into two product lines using different technologies. The ‘Excellence’ line is suitable for all applications and is mainly targeted at more specialised users. The ‘Performance’ range is ideal for contractors and customers working with less demanding duties. Rammer has a solution for every customer.

3. Rammer hits harder

Rammer breakers have FBE (Fixed Blow Energy). The breakers have a built-in pressure control valve which maintains hydraulic pressure levels to ensure that every blow delivers the maximum power possible for optimum productivity. When every hit counts, Rammer hits harder.

4. RD3 remote monitoring

RD3 is a remote monitoring device that attaches securely to your Rammer hammer and monitors daily work hours, impact periods, service intervals, GPS location and much more. RD3 is available as standard with the Excellence line and as an option on Performance line. They can also be retrofitted after your hammer has been delivered. Rammer have brought hammers into the digital age.

5. Vibration & sound suppressed

The ultra-modern and low-wear design on Rammers medium and large range of breakers results in less vibrations and significantly lower noise levels compared to other breakers on the market. This protects the operator and the carrier, whilst allowing you to work on sites with strict rules on noise pollution.

6.

No tie rods / VIDAT tie rods

Rammer’s small breaker range are built without tie rods, allowing for ideal guidance of the piston and optimal alignment of the tool. Whilst the medium and large range feature VIDAT (vibration dampened, external tie rods). Both set ups allow for fast, safe and easy maintenance without the need for special tools.

7. Models specifically design for the UK market

Rammer have developed three models specifically for the UK market. The 111, 222, 333 models feature a slimmer design allowing them to operate effectively in narrow and confined work areas, such as trenches. These three models also feature a pressure release system for fast and safe hose removal for quick couplers, light weight for broad carrier adaptability and 30% fewer parts and no tie rods for less maintenance.

8.

IBP (Idle Blow Protection)

Rammer’s medium and large range of breakers have Idle Blow Protection (IBP) technology. IBP ensures the hammer cannot be operated until pressure is placed on the tool. This eliminates tie rod stress, reduces oil overheating and protects against blank fires.

9. Membrane Type Accumulator

The Rammer range also feature Membrane Type Accumulator which eliminates nitrogen leaks, ensuring constant maximum impact power and eliminates the need for recharging in field.

10.

Simple lower tool bushing replacement

You can rotate or replace the lower tool bushing in the field by removing the easy-to-use pin. The replaceable lower tool bushing decreases your maintenance costs, whilst reducing your operating cost and cost of ownership.

We have excellent availability on Rammer breakers within each of our three regional businesses. Get in touch with your local dealer to find out more:

The Inventhor 9 turns heads at Growing Beds

Established in 2002 by Mark Evans and Isobel Wootton Evans, Growing Beds Recycling Services (GBRS) is a leading provider of organic waste recycling services and solutions.

14 Blue Mail | Winter 2022

Fully Licensed by the Environmental Agency, the company works with local authorities and private firms across the UK to provide high quality recycling and processing techniques to help meet today’s ambitious recycling targets.

Situated close to the M1 and A1M motorways near Bedford, GBRS specialise in green and wood waste recycling, composting, biomass production and contract shredding. The company have run both high-speed and slow-speed Doppstadt shredders as part of their green and wood waste recycling operation for many years. However, due to continued growth of the business and an increase in material arriving at their facility, they decided it was time invest in a larger machine with higher throughput.

Previously running three machines between their green and wood waste processing, they decided to look at the Doppstadt Inventhor 9 slow-speed shredder. After taking the machine on demo from Blue Central they soon realised that their three machines could be reduced to one, increasing their throughput and efficiency, whilst reducing their servicing, spare parts, and fuel costs. After a few days of demonstrations, GBRS decided it wouldn’t be going back!

Engineered for the most demanding of tasks, whether you’re shredding waste wood, domestic waste, bulky waste or mixed construction waste, the Inventhor 9 can do it all. Doppstadt are widely recognised for their innovative designs, and you’ll find innovations everywhere you look on the Inventhor 9. Its VarioDirect Drive continuously transmits power to the shredding drum so that the engine always runs at optimum operating point, and the reverse cleaning cycle removes any blockages from around the drum, reducing maintenance and downtime.

GBRS use the Inventhor 9 daily to shred their green waste when it arrives onto site, which is the start of their PAS100 composting process. When it’s not working on green waste it will be used to process wood waste on site, and it has also recently been used to shred bulky waste. The machines’ specific settings allows the company to change the set up when moving over from one material to another. This is imperative when working on their wood waste as they must meet strict product guidelines to produce biomass fuel for their clients.

Owner at GBRS, Mark Evans, sat down with us to discuss his Inventhor 9 and the role it is playing within his operation: “We have been blown away by the performance of this machine, it regularly shreds a busy yard free of green wase within a day. We have also been using it to shred bulky waste, and the machines’ ability to process whatever we throw its way has been very pleasing.”

When asked about the features on the machine, Mark said: “We really saw the benefits of its self-cleaning mechanism when it was processing bulky waste on a recent contracting job. The machines’ new casing concept makes accessing all areas incredibly easy. We have benefitted from being able to free material trapped around the shaft as a result of this. Making the change from red to white diesel and having to accept these increasing prices has been tough, however, the Inventhor 9 is much more efficient than the shredders we have ran in the past and it’s doing its part to help the business financially”.

Finally, Mark went on to comment on the service provided by Blue Machinery: “The machine has had very little down time, but on the rare occasion that it has been, Blue’s aftermarket team were top class as always. I have known Sean and the Click here to see the Inventhor 9 working at Growing Beds

Fuchs and Powerhand provide the perfect combination for SCD

18 Blue Mail | Winter 2022

Founded in 1985, Sandbach Commercial Dismantlers Ltd (SCD) specialise in scrap services, demolition and skip hire. Starting out as a small car breaking and scrap merchant operating out of Sandbach, Cheshire, the company has since branched out to become one of the fastest growing independent demolition contractors in the North of England.

Looking to improve the car processing side of the business, SCD became interested in the Powerhand range of vehicle dismantling attachments as a possible solution. Already running Terex Fuchs material handlers, with a good working relationship with Blue Machinery, they decided that they wanted to fit a Powerhand system onto a Fuchs MHL320F.

Once the decision was made, Powerhand and Blue Machinery Central worked with Fuchs to develop a first of its kind MHL320F/Powerhand combination. The set up consisted of a Powerhand VRS180 pincer grapple and VRS200 clamp arms. On this occasion, Fuchs developed a specially modified undercarriage to work with the Powerhand system.

Traditional methods of removing high value materials from endof-life cars and vehicles can be labour intensive and costly, often making the process economically unviable. A four or five-tine scrap grab will allow extraction of the engine, however, much of the valuable materials are left behind.

The Powerhand VRS offers an excellent combination of power and dexterity. The clamp arms allow the operator to pin the vehicle down, keeping it steady for the precise extraction of materials. The grapple features a pincer shape which is slim enough to navigate tight areas. High power hydraulic cylinders and a high-speed rotation unit gives VRS the power to strip end-of-life vehicles with ease.

A determining factor behind SCD’s decision to purchase the machine was its ability to extract copper wiring loom from their vehicles. The slender design of the grapple creates a straight line of sight from the operator to the vehicle, making wire extraction from tightest gaps an effortless task. The high-speed vane motor rotator on the VRS grapple means wiring looms can be twisted up like a rope, making the loom stronger so that a greater amount can be extracted. The multi-tool on the VRS clamp arms can be used to remove unwanted plugs from the wiring loom, leaving only the high value wiring to be recycled.

This impressive machine was on display on the Blue Machinery stand at the RWM Letsrecycle Live show in September, before being delivered to the customer.

Founder and Owner at Sandbach Commercial Dismantlers, Allister Boote, commented: “We’re very happy with the machine and how it has performed so far. The value we are now extracting from our end-of-life vehicles has grown significantly. A big thanks to Adam and the team at Blue for making it happen”.
