FROM OUR PRESIDENT STRONG BUSINESS EQUALS A STRONG COMMUNITY For over 63 years, the Boca Chamber has played a role in enhancing the community of Boca Raton and its surrounding areas. We work hard to ensure that local commerce is advancing, that South Palm Beach County’s charitable needs are met, and that our city has a thriving economy that allows for low taxes, award-winning parks and beaches, and A-rated public schools. Last month, we graduated the next generation of community minded leaders, our Leadership Boca class of 2015. A number of these recent graduates are volunteering at many non-profits, and in some cases sitting on their boards, and helping raise awareness about different causes. On page 11, you will read a special message from Leadership Boca’s Chair, Jennifer Jager, which will give you a glimpse into the impact that Leadership Boca has on the community. During the month of August, non-profit Chamber Members join forces with for-profit Chamber Members to hold fun-filled communitywide events, known as Boca Chamber Festival Days (BCFD). BCFD is the Boca Chamber’s outreach and support to the non-profit community with the goal of raising awareness and funds for the non-profit member’s philanthropic efforts. On page 7, you can read more about BCFD and learn about how you can get involved and make a difference. This May, we hosted the 7th Annual YEA! Southeast Region Saunders Scholars Competition, where hundreds of business and educational leaders, students and parents gathered to hear America’s top young entrepreneurs, ages 11 to 18, pitch their business plans. The winner, our very own Jordan Zeitz, was flown to Washington, DC to compete in the Finals round at America’s Small Business Summit. Jordan competed to win a fifty-thousand dollar college scholarship and the opportunity to appear on ABC Television’s hit show Shark Tank. We are proud to announce that Jordan received third place in the nation! You can read more about the YEA! program on page 16. Lastly, I invite you to two of our upcoming signature events. Wine & all that Jazz, one of Boca Raton’s largest wine tasting parties, on August 22nd and the Annual Celebration on October 24th, where we will pass the gavel from Chairman Randy Nobles to Chair Elect Jerry Fedele. Both of these events are held at the Boca Raton Resort & Club and bring business and community leaders together in celebration of economic prosperity. There are both “not-to-miss” events! Moving Forward,

STORM TIPS TO BE HURRICANE-READY Preparing For a Storm: A Guide for Your Business Businesses today must plan for more than just supply and demand. Hurricanes, floods, fires and other potential hazards pose serious threats to businesses everywhere. The tools and information and links provided below are designed to help you stay prepared and to ensure the continued health of South Florida’s economy. Hurricanes generate a series of threats to lives and property. The most obvious is the threat posed to buildings, equipment, and people by the high winds which characterize such storms. Two keys to weather safety are to prepare for the risks and to act on those preparations when alerted by emergency officials. These are essential pieces to the Weather-Ready Nation. FPL is one of the companies that knows the impact that a major storm can have on your business, in fact they have a plan and urge you to prepare so you and your employees can get back to business safely and as quickly as possible. Below is a guide they provided that they hope will help get you started:
Plan ahead: • Ensure your employees’ contact information is up-to-date and that you have a plan in place to communicate after the storm passes. • Determine if your business is in a flood and/or evacuation zone and review evacuation routes; identify an emergency temporary site. • Identify what you need to secure your building or office. • Review your insurance coverage; photograph or videotape your building or office – inside and out. Before a storm: • Gather supplies to secure the exterior of your office and protect interior furniture. 4
• Fully charge all portable electronics. • Make multiple back-ups of computer files and data, and store records off premises. • Record a special voice message informing employees and customers the status of company operations. • Close your offices with sufficient time to allow employees to secure their own homes; inform clients that you’re closing early and when you plan to reopen. After a storm: • Watch for downed power lines. Call 911 or FPL at 1-800-4OUTAGE to report fallen power lines that present a clear and imminent danger to you or others. Do not attempt to touch any power lines. Always assume that every power line is energized. • Stay connected with us, report an outage and get updates at FPL.com , which is also accessible on mobile devices. • In case of interior water damage, immediately turn off your circuit breakers, disconnect all electrical appliances and turn off all wall switches. Remember, never stand in water while operating switches or unplugging any electrical device. • If you use a portable generator, read and follow all the manufacturer’s instructions and safety guidelines. For more storm and safety tips from FPL go to www. FPL.com/storm. You should also refer to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Ready.gov/ hurricanes for comprehensive information on hurricane preparedness at home and in your community.

COMMITTEE BRIEFS AMBASSADORS
TOURISM
Inside Scoop of the Ambassador Group
An Update From The Tourism Committee Chair
By Michael Church, 2015 Ambassador Chair and Lise Orr, 2015 Ambassador Co-Chair
By Ellen Korelitz, Tourism Committee Chair
The Boca Chamber Ambassadors are a select, motivated and informed group of Chamber members who take great pride in representing the Chamber. Ambassadors are committed to expanding their knowledge of Chamber affairs and are reputed as very reliable sources of information. They serve as the backbone of the Chamber’s membership and marketing outreach efforts. These efforts include: staffing regularly scheduled Chamber functions, attending ribbon cuttings, meeting and welcoming every new Chamber member at the New Member Orientation meetings and obtaining possible new member leads for the Chamber’s Membership Department. Every year, the Boca Chamber Ambassador group selects a non-profit organization to sponsor during Boca Chamber Festival Days (BCFD), which is the Boca Chamber’s outreach to the non-profit community. This year, we are proud to announce that we are sponsoring the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation during BCFD! The Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation is a public bone marrow and blood stem cell registry headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. Gift of Life facilitates transplants for children and adults suffering from life-threatening illnesses, including leukemia, lymphoma, other cancers and genetic diseases. Ambassadors meets once a month at the Chamber. If you are interested in learning more or becoming an Ambassador, please contact Chasity Navarro at cnavarro@bocachamber.com for more information.
I am Ellen Korelitz, Director of Marketing and Business Development for Town Center At Boca Raton. I am thrilled to be the chair of The Boca Chamber’s Tourism Committee and want to thank the wonderful, dedicated and committed professionals who serve on this committee and work towards building and promoting our world class, fun and experiential tourist destination. This committee has an ambitious agenda. The threefold strategic plan for 2015 is to work with Discover The Palm Beaches (our county-wide Tourism Agency), work with the City of Boca Raton and work with each other to further build and communicate all opportunities that drive tourism. The first initiative is for Discover The Palm Beaches to provide statistics, resources and information to committee members. This information enables the group to make educated decisions when marketing to leisure and corporate travelers. The second initiative is in its beginning stages of working with the City of Boca Raton on branding and signage concepts in hopes to incur more visits from the drive-traffic from Miami or Orlando. And the third initiative is for the committee, represented by key iconic businesses, to work with each other to bring people to our city and create positive, memorable experiences while they are in Boca Raton. The intent is to execute the 2015 tourism as a true contributory committee and make a notable impact on Boca tourism altogether.

LEADERSHIP BOCA LEADERSHIP BOCA 2015 A Message From the 2015 Leadership Boca Chair By Jennifer Seremetis Jager, Leadership Boca Chair 2015 Leadership Boca 2015 was, as always, an amazing experience. This year’s participants joined us from a number of industries, each bringing with them distinct perspectives and areas of expertise. They were exposed to the great assets unique to our community, as well as the great needs of our neighbors. From our first day visiting some of Boca’s impressive corporations, to our last day discovering the cultural treasures nestled within our community, these emerging leaders got a comprehensive understanding of all that Boca Raton has to offer. They met with legislators and had a chance to voice their concerns, visited the news set at WPTV and even got a behind the scenes glimpse at Palm Beach International Airport. They discovered new passions, and were inspired to volunteer for a number of impactful local non profits. They also made connections that will serve them personally and professionally for years to come. If you’re interested in developing your leadership abilities, networking with prominent members of the Boca Raton business community, getting more involved in the non profit community and unearthing cultural and environmental attractions you never knew were in your backyard, I encourage you to enroll in Leadership Boca 2016. COMMUNITY TRUSTEE SPOTLIGHT
YMCA OF SOUTH PALM BEACH Which includes: The Peter Blum Family YMCA of Boca Raton & The DeVos-Blum Family YMCA of Boynton Beach
How long have you been in business? The YMCA in Boca Raton opened its doors in 1972, so it has been 43 years that we’ve been delivering vital programs and services to help strengthen our community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. What is something we might not know about the Y? Most people do not realize that we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Volunteer led and volunteer driven, we fundraise annually to help strengthen our communities. We do this so everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, is able to participate in life-changing programs such as swim lessons, sports, after school care, camp and many more.
Chamber works to create more opportunities and business connections that benefit everyone, and as trustee members we appreciate that! The Chamber truly champions creating business partnerships and is a nonprofit in which we are blessed to belong. What new plans do you have in mind? We are currently working on a new strategic plan for our Y. This means potential expansion into new service areas, expanding our current locations, or providing much-needed programs and services to underserved areas in our community. This process involves feedback from our members, the community at large, business partners, volunteers, staff and YMCA of the USA. We are poised to expand our world-class YMCA organization to our worldclass community. It’s truly exciting to be part of what’s happening at the Y.
What is the main goal of your business? The mission of the YMCA is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. A Y is built to be a reflection of its community and to meet their needs. Our Y is a great example of how we are meeting the needs of our community through our many programs. Diabetes Prevention, Drowning Prevention, and our YBIKE program are just a few of the examples of programs that our Y delivers to help the South Palm Beach County community live healthier, happier lives. What’s makes your YMCA Association different from all other Y’s? Our members, volunteers and staff make our Y’s unique. Most people do not realize that they have some of the best YMCAs in the nation right here in Boca Raton and Boynton Beach. That is due to our amazing volunteers and members. Our members share what they want and our volunteers work with the staff to deliver it to the community. What are the greatest advantages of doing business in South Palm Beach County and being a member of the Boca Chamber? The Boca Chamber is widely accepted as one of the most active and successful Chambers around. The www.bocachamber.com

GOLDEN BELL GOLDEN BELL
Do you know what the Golden Bell Education Foundation is? The Boca Chamber’s Education Foundation, known as Golden Bell, is a 501c3 non-profit corporation that was created by the Chamber’s Board of Directors as a separate operating entity for the sole purpose of supporting the Boca Raton Public School System and administrating educational programs that promote business skills. 100% of funds given back are raised through donations, fundraising events and corporate partnerships. How are Golden Bell Education Foundation Funds Used? Who better to tell you than the teachers themselves… Over the past decade Boca Raton Elementary has been fortunate enough to receive grants from the Golden Bell Foundation, which have afforded us to fund programs to enhance literacy, math and technology programs. Golden Bell Funds have also been able to equip our classrooms with an array of books of various genres. “The students, teachers and faculty of Boca Raton Elementary are forever grateful for the support we have received from the Golden Bell Foundation. As a Title I School with approximately 80% of students on free or reduced lunch, our needs are immense, and increase yearly as education budgets decrease. We have the greatest needs of any school in Boca Raton and appreciate the support of the Golden Bell Foundation.” Boca Raton Elementary / Mary Jo Braisted
www.bocachamber.com
“The Golden Bell Grant program has been a true blessing to our school. Worm composting bins purchased from Golden Bell Grants over five years ago are still being used in the STEAM Lab for a vermicomposting project for students in grades K5. Books and supplies all over the building are helping our teachers and students achieve success through innovative programs. Thank you for your continued support.” AD Henderson University School / Jennifer O’Sullivan “Because of your generosity, students have had access to quality books that have helped them increase their reading levels and close the reading gap between them and their typical peers. This school year, I have seen two particular students in Response to Intervention in first grade go from not being able to read, to reading on grade level! Your organization has provided the groundwork we need to equip our beloved children to achieve college readiness and success in their future.” Sandpiper Shores Elementary / Mercedes Dybas If you would like to give back… Please contact Sonya Deros at sderos@bocachamber.com or SAVE THE DATE for one of the up-coming Golden Bell Education Foundation fund raisers!

FEATURE CULTURE IS COMMUNITY Get out and get involved this August!
The Cultural Consortium and its members are proud to partner with the City of Boca Raton to promote the exciting cultural opportunities that are available in our community. The Consortium started as an ad-hoc group 17 years ago, and nearly two decades later, has grown into a formalized nonprofit organization comprised of artistic leaders who are dedicated to creating synergy while demonstrating that Boca Raton is truly a vibrant cultural destination. The Consortium recently developed a new website with a unified, searchable arts calendar - www.artsinboca. org - to promote arts and culture in the Greater Boca Raton area, as well to facilitate artistic collaborations. The idea is to drive both residents and tourists to the site, providing a fundamental resource for local arts events, including performances, exhibits, theater, lectures, classes, concerts and dance workshops presented by the 15 member organizations of the Consortium. As President and driving force behind the resurgence of the Boca Raton Cultural Consortium, I expresses that with the right facilities and venues, the performing arts and other cultural entities can be the cornerstone of Boca Raton’s economy, especially considering its ideal location between Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach. I believe that we are close enough to draw audiences if we have the right facilities, but there is a vital need for more than a performing space; we need offices, rehearsal

Along with the Consortium, I am devoted to assuring that arts and cultural organizations remain an important part of the agendas of the City Council, the County, State, as well as local organizations like the Chamber of Commerce.
