“My involvement with the Chamber has occurred on several different facets. It began with being part of The Leads Group #1, to participating in The Economic Development Committee Meetings, and hiking my peer circle by becoming a Trustee member. These are a few of the teams/committees I participate in on a monthly basis, including lunches & evening networking events the Chamber co-sponsors in an effort to meet other business professionals, learn about them, tell them about me, and mutually help our business grow. I believe The Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce has dramatically elevated my business without question or doubt! It is accurate to state that about 30% of my current referrals are being derived directly from said organization. The Boca Chamber is extraordinary on it’s own and I know I speak for all of us who participate in it when I say that they provide great opportunities to make new connections for the sole purpose of growing our businesses and establishing lasting relationships.” - Hugo Vargas, Mortgage Consultant

“Daszkal Bolton has been an active corporate member of the Boca Chamber for many years. We’re proud to be trustees and to have our managing partner, Michael Daszkal, serve on the board of directors. My individual involvement with the Chamber began when I started with Daszkal Bolton more than two years ago. While local to South Florida, Boca Raton was a relatively foreign city to me. The Boca Chamber has been a great way to connect with others in the business and notfor-profit community. It wasn’t long before I lost count of how many enjoyable events I was attending. I am proud to have recently joined the ranks of Leadership Boca alumni (class of 2015)—an experience I readily recommend. Having attended the last couple of rounds of business plan presentations, I am also excited to serve as an instructor for the 2015-2016 YEA! program in the coming months.” - Lewis Greenberg, Director of Marketing, Daszkal Bolton LLP
SEPTEMBER
“When I first started Plum Productions, all I had was an idea. I had a lot of experience in corporate video production, but virtually no contacts, and no experience running a business. On a whim, I joined the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce in hopes of gaining clients and learning a thing or two about the business world. It was the best decision I’ve ever made for my business. The Chamber offers many free educational seminars that really helped me develop my company, and once I got networking Plum Productions started to snowball. Now, six years later, the Boca Chamber continues to be one of our best referral sources. I’m amazed at the caliber of clients we’ve acquired through our membership. For Plum Productions, the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce is easily the most effective organization to which we belong. Thank you Boca Chamber!” - Jennifer Jager, Creative Director, Plum Productions

EDITORIAL TOP 5 THINGS EVERY SALES PERSON SHOULD KNOW Tips on How to Sell in Today’s Business Environment
What’s the new normal when it comes to developing business? This is not the old ‘ask a few questions, give your features and benefits and trial close’. The 70s wants their slick sales guy back. Today you need to be smart, curious and a true consultant to sell. Here are a few things that today are imperative in business growth. Tell the prospect its OK to break up….Rejection is a result of trying to sell someone your product or service as opposed to tell them what you are calling about, let them know it seems that because of what they do you could potentially work together, but (pull back) you don’t want to assume that you are a good fit. What you’d like to do is ask a few questions to see if the two of you are a fit and if not, we decide it’s a NO then we only wasted a few minutes? Sound OK? This allows you to give a NO as an option right upfront. Mining for customers is different today. Networking is the true key to finding and keeping customers but most people do it wrong. Networking events are not for direct prospecting! Go to an event and look for Strategic Alliances, people that you can refer business back and forth to as opposed to hitting your potential prospects so hard. We all know building business on referrals is the best way to do business so lets network for good alliances that you can refer business to and that is a good source for your referrals. Research should be used for credibility. Research is essential today before you pick up the phone and call anyone. No excuses! The most important reason to do your research is to create good, quality questions to ask them to engage your prospect in conversation and truly understand their needs. If you need to discount to get the business is almost always a result of one of these things. a) The customer doesn’t truly trust you/ your product or service so there is only price to use as a differentiator or b) you haven’t truly understood the need for the product. I know need seems simple but it isn’t. What are they trying to say? What impression are they trying to leave, how do they want to be seen? Listen and shut up!! If I could teach people that are in sales/business development to ask questions and listen there would be a lot more success in business! Telling isn’t selling…but it comes from a good place. We are excited about what we represent and want other to be excited too but excitement doesn’t sell, questions and true engagement does. When you ask a question, wait for the answer and whatever the answer is, especially if it may be something your product or service can help with, the best next question is, “tell me about that”, then SHUT-UP!!!
