Mayor Susan Haynie Re-Elected for Another Three Years The residents of Boca Raton have spoken. Susan Haynie will continue to serve as the mayor of Boca Raton for another three years after defeating Al Zucaro by 1,112 votes. Haynie received 6,410 votes and Zucaro earned 5,298 in what was the closest, and most anticipated, race of the night. “I’m honored to have another three terms,” said Haynie. “This whole election was a referendum on the state of the city and a majority of the residents have supported the direction the city is moving in.” See page 3

Rick Allen of Def Leppard will be exhibiting his “Drums for Peace” art collection Saturday, March 18 at Wentworth Gallery in Boca Raton during a stop on the North American Art Tour. The drummer first showcased his art in 2012. It included 300 pieces, which were quickly sold out. In 2013, he unveiled more art with the title “Rock-On-Canvas.” Now he will be making appearances at Wentworth Gallery locations in both Fort Lauderdale and the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton.

Schmidt College of Medicine were recently inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (AOA), a national medical honor society advocating for excellence in scholarship and the highest ideals in the profession of medicine. • The Rotary Club of Boca Raton West held their Award Party for the Dictionary Project Essay Contest on Saturday, March 11 at Logger’s Run Park in West Boca Raton. For the past five years, The Rotary Club Boca Raton West has been trying to make third grader’s lives easier, by bringing together three local schools, Coral Sunset, Waters Edge, and Del Prado as all third grade student in those three school receive their own personal dictionary. The Dictionary Project begins in September, near the start of the school year, with members of the Rotary Club going to the three schools and speaking to the kids about the importance of dictionaries, and the essay contest that they will participate in. Students from Del Prado Elementary, Coral Sunset Elementary, and Water’s Edge Elementary, all had an opportunity to write an essay on Soccer. The Boca Raton Tribune, Ultimate Soccer Store, Boca Raton Football Club, Barcelona Elite Boca Raton, and ReMax all sponsored the Dictionary Project and were all part of the Award Party. One student from each school was chosen and won a Kindle Fire. • The Boca Raton Garden Club will feature their annual “Treasures and Plant Sale” on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1. The event will offer many plant and gardening tools and accessories as well as “gently used treasures” ranging from clothing and jewelry to dishes and collectibles.
• Cold River Records has signed Placer Creek Music Publishing writer, Maggie Baugh, to its artist roster. Community FAU Launches New Shuttle Route to Connect Boca Raton and Jupiter Campuses By: Brittany Sullivan Need a ride to Florida Atlantic University’s Jupiter campus from the Boca Raton campus? Have no fear – there is now a free mode of transportation to get you there. Beginning Monday, March 13, the University’s new intercampus shuttle bus will drive students from the Boca campus to the John D. MacArthur campus in Jupiter. “This complimentary and convenient shuttle route will enhance the lives of so many of our students who travel back and forth between both campuses,” said Stacy Volnick, FAU’s vice president for administrative affairs and chief administrative officer. The new route will operate Monday through Friday and will commence

Haynie received 6,410 votes and Zucaro earned 5,298 in what was the closest, and most anticipated, race of the night. “I’m honored to have another three terms,” said Haynie. “This whole election was a referendum on the state of the city and a majority of the residents have supported the direction the city is moving in.” Haynie gained just 55 percent of votes, and acknowledged residents are split over traffic and development issues. “We have a divided community,” added Haynie. “Many residents have concerns but we will address these issues and we will work together to make Boca Raton a great city to live in.” How does Haynie plan to unite a divided city in which at least 5,298 residents are unhappy? “The city council is open and we are happy to work with everyone to find consensus. We will address the
impacts of the development, we will conclude them and create a vibrant downtown, that’s nothing to be afraid of.” Voters in Boca Raton also re-elected Scott Singer for another three years on the council’s Seat A after winning 71 percent of votes over his opponent, Patricia Dervishi. Andrea O’Rourke will fill former Councilman Mike Mullaugh’s term-limited Seat B. O’Rourke won 48 percent of the vote over opponents Emily Gentile (12 percent) and Andy Thomson (40 percent).

Rick Allen of Def Leppard to Showcase His Art Collection in Boca Raton By: Michael Demyan Rick Allen of Def Leppard will be exhibiting his “Drums for Peace” art collection Saturday, March 18 at Wentworth Gallery in Boca Raton during a stop on the North American Art Tour. The newest collection includes numerous pieces of art such as paintings, jewelry and drums, which will be available for purchase. Each buyer will also be presented with a limited-edition commemorative “Rock It” artwork, signed by Allen. A portion of the earnings from the event will be donated to the Warrior Resiliency Program, which is sponsored by the Raven Drum Foundation, a charity Allen co-founded with his wife, Lauren Monroe. “We are honored to present this extraordinary collection in our galleries throughout the country, and to continue our efforts and our tradition of giving back to the men and women who serve our nation so selflessly,” Christian O’Mahony of Wentworth Gallery said. “Our goal is to bring exposure to Project Resiliency through artistry.”

Allen became a member of Def Leppard at the age of 15 in 1978, but in 1984 he lost control of his car while driving in the United Kingdom, which resulted in a serious accident and the loss of one of his arms. The drummer did not let that stop him however and continued his career. He also decided to use his tragedy to be an inspiration for others by reaching out to cancer patients, military veterans and children with special needs, among others. Through his work, he has received two Humanitarian Awards from Best Buddies of California, along with the Wounded Warrior Project’s Carry It Forward Award. “My life has been a journey of transformation and my art reflects the many facets of dreams and perceptions that have shaped me to be the person I am today,” Allen said. “Each piece has a story and a connection to my life from my roots in England, my life changing car accident, journey to America, travels around the globe and to my deep connection to Wounded Warriors and their struggle to heal.” Allen will first be attending the event at Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale before arriving at the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton at 6 p.m., where he will stay until 9 p.m. It is suggested that those who wish to attend RSVP by calling the Wentworth Gallery at 561-338-0804. Boca Raton Police shred event bring in 41 tons of paper The numbers are in and the residents of Boca Raton did their part to prevent identity theft and help the environment at the same time. On Saturday, February 25, 2017, the Boca Raton Police Services Department and Microshred Corporation partnered to host a free shredding event. After a long and divisive campaign, Boca’s voters finally have their say Thank goodness the hard fought campaigns are over. The voters in Boca Raton and Delray Beach have spoken loud and clear through our longstanding system of free elections. That is how American democracy works. The people, at least those who are registered and armed with their ballots, had the last word on Tuesday. And after the supervisor of elections tallied the ballots, the voters decided that incumbents - Mayor Susan Haynie and Council Member Scott Singer – should represent them for another term. They also tapped newcomer Andrea Levine O’Rourke to join the five-person council. Throughout the campaign season, candidates took jabs and hurled insults at each other, similarly to what we saw in the most recent General Election. And while Boca Raton has had some tacky campaigns previously, this was among the most vitriolic I have seen in a while. I applaud those voters who exercised their god given right and duty on Tuesday. When I interviewed the candidates earlier this year, most realize that local elections are the most important in terms of impacting people’s lives. Let us face it, it is the city council members and city commissioners who have
a much bigger impact on your daily life. They have more clout than Donald Trump, your state and US senators or representatives ever will. As I have said from time to time, city leaders decide what your tax rate will be, they determine what can or cannot be built in your neighborhood and yes, they have a large say on your quality of life, such as the quality of your roads, sidewalk and neighborhood parks. They even have control over the garbage and trash pick-up. Our northern neighbors sent a resounding message when they elected Shirley Johnson and Jim Chard to the Delray Beach City Commission. Delray Beach black voters have, for the most part, stayed home during March elections. Only a small percent of the city’s electorate has turned out in the past two years for city elections. But this year, apathy, became a thing of the past. Spurred by the City Commission’s failure to appoint one of two black residents to fill the unfulfilled seat of Commissioner Al Jacquet, who resigned in November after he was elected to Florida’s House of Representatives, voters rallied and used the power of the ballot. With fire in their eyes and determination in their hearts, they went back to grassroots politicking. They held weekly strategic meetings, knocked on doors on
weekends, they made phone calls and crisscrossed churches to meet and convince voters they were the best choice. On Tuesday, their efforts paid off. I was somewhat concerned that none of the candidates in their campaign rhetoric, at least the ones where I was present, addressed youth issues. But again, I am reminded that politicians very rarely devote attention to youth issues because youth do not vote. Several of the more than 120 parents, including more than 70 percent whom are registered voters and voted, asked me who they should vote for. While I never tell a parent how to vote, I educated them on who has their child’s best interest, based on the information I gather about that candidate. Political novice Anneze Barthelemy, a social worker and chaplain who trailed Johnson, said she was motivated by the experience to get more involved in her community. In fact, she plans to find the pulse of the community by attending community meetings and meeting with small groups, so she can someday be there representative. I declare that one day, Barthelemy, will be on the Delray Beach City Commission. As a young law school student, Jacquet showed promise early on that his calling was in politics. I called it when he entered the race for the city commission
seat, and today, he in in Tallahassee. And when Johnson ran unsuccessfully some years ago, I saw something in her that I rarely see in elected officials over the last five or so years. I dubbed her “Commissioner” then and told her that someday she will receive the official title. In a few days, she will be taking the oath of office. In the wake of Tuesday’s election, I suggest we do an autopsy. We have a lot to learn from the past seven months. I plan to address some of the lessons learned in a future column. However, one that comes to mind is, Now that the people in both cities have spoken, I encourage our newly elected officials to lead with integrity, courage and fairness. And I challenge the voters to hold them accountable for what you elected them for – solving problems. It’s time now time to begin healing the wounds and move forward peacefully as one wholesome community. Until next time, reach out and use your talent to help someone in your neighborhood. Today they need your help, because tomorrow you could be the one in need.

Integrity is a Non-Negotiable! Integrity is a necessary quality for every human encounter, especially in transactions between people. When it is practiced, the results are inevitably positive. When it’s lacking, persons involved with those interactions remain in doubt, or become fully aware of what’s missing. As a result, a negotiation cannot proceed as it should! There are many things in life where compromises can be legitimately made without robbing anyone from what is due unto them. Integrity, however, is an element that cannot be compromised, for it’s on the basis of its presence in any life that guarantees its final, honest success! Sadly, in practically every realm of daily living, integrity is not being taken as

seriously as it is necessary. The word of one that should be as precious as gold, is often being falsified. Promises are made and not kept; a product is introduced to others as being of high quality when, in reality, it is not. Integrity is associated with truth but today truth is no longer viewed and practiced by some with the solemnity and accuracy which it demands. In fact, there are people who have dethroned truth from something so basic and high in life as it should remain. Others, even question the very possibility of truth, as originally defined! From my title above, I happen to be among those who still firmly believe that integrity is a non-negotiable in all facets of
life, especially when human communication is being conducted. If a product being sold is to achieve the benefits others can have from it, as announced by the seller, integrity needs to be a key element in the negotiations. Deception is one of the opposites of integrity. Tragically, so much in contemporary society is carried on with a deceptive motive, regardless of the damage it shall bring whether to one individual or to several more persons. Yet, we all know that where truth prevails in any small or great activity, the results will always be positive and rewarding. And the benefits of integrity are not only for one of the participants of any interactions, but for both. It must be real in

small things first before they can be seen in major transactions. It relates to one’s word of mouth, or written communications, as well as regarding the actual delivery of what was ordered and purchased. There shouldn’t be any fear in the practice of what is true and right. Therefore, integrity is nothing for anyone to fear, but to observe with interest and to fulfill in both great and small things. If more integrity is observed in any society, greater shall always be the benefits harvested by the members of that community, and the final rewards are equally great and beneficial to all!

Also some teams are also famous. Soccer started in England in the 1800 and then more and more people started playing it in different countries. Do you know where the first world cup was played? Well I do. It was played in 1930 in Uruguay. When people play soccer most of the time they have to get rid of the ball quickly because there could be someone coming after you and you have to kick to one of your team-mates before the guy steals the ball. In this world there are many
good soccer players. Here are some: Messi, Ronaldo and Ibrahimović. These are really good people who play soccer. These athletes are professional players. They have practiced for a long time before they were a professional soccer player. All around the world soccer is actually called football. We all know what football is, but people who speak different languages call it football because in soccer you use your feet and you can’t use your hands, because soccer means you use your feet. Soccer is a fun game, but it can also be a challenge. In conclusion we all know soccer is fun and like I said sometimes it is a challenge, but all through everything, it a fun sport.

Did you know that soccer is considered the national sport in more than 100 countries and that every weekend billions of soccer fans watch it either on TV or in a soccer stadium? Soccer has been in my veins thanks to my entire family has been playing soccer since many decades ago; truly, it is my biggest passion for I practice almost every day. No doubt, no matter which language you speak or which country you come from, soccer is inside our hearts. To begin with, my mother always tells me that I have started to love soccer since I was in her belly because I used to kick her so much that she would think I could become a soccer player. Everybody in my family plays soccer. May father have been playing since he was as little as I am now. He is always telling me that in Peru, where my family is originally from, soccer is everyone’s passion, and many times the Peru national team has played excellent games worldwide. Also, my mother loves soccer too. She started to play soccer in college and always says, “It is never too late to practice a sport”. Secondly, how can I become a great soccer player and improve every day at every game? My mommy always says, “School works to develop my intelligence for academics; after that, it is Soccer Time! Then to improve, you can practice with an academy or with a family member, do some drills like quick pass 1-2,

juggling, and ball control too. At the field, the position I play in is usually offense and also sometimes defense. Last game, I was running up and down the field with a lot energy; then, my friend tried to score a goal but the goalie blocked the shot. Then, I got the rebound so I took a powerful shot, the goalie could not block it, and next I shouted GOAL! Most definitely, I must tell you that soccer is the most beautiful sport in the whole planet Earth. Wherever I go in my city and other cities too, I find children and adults having fun no matter which native language they speak: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, Creole, Chinese, Japanese, etc. Last summer, we traveled to Peru to visit my family after a big while. One day, we went to a park and some kids invited me to play a pick-up game without knowing me at all. We had a blast! It did not matter if I spoke Spanish or English because we created great plays and celebrated awesome goals. Soccer really unites us all in one unique language. Finally, I would like for everybody to understand why I love playing soccer so much, and also why millions of fans enjoy so much even watching it on TV: Soccer unites families, friends, cities, and better yet, whole countries all over the world. So, let me give you this advice from the bottom of my heart; get a soccer ball, gather friends, and start playing right away for you will find friendship, happiness, sportsmanship, but above all GOAL!!!

Obituaries Robert Beasley 1930-2017
Robert Wm. Beasley passed away on Saturday, March 4 after a two-year battle with cancer and he had contracted pneumonia when he was put into a rehab center. He was burried on March 8 at the South Florida National Cemetary at 6501 State Road 7 in Lake Worth, Fl. Robert, (Bob) Beasley was born in Union City, New Jersey to John and Elizabeth Weber Beasley in 1930. He was a Lt. in the United States Airforce, and a graduate in Industrial Engineering from Rutgers University. Bob worked for Grumann Aircraft, Rowe International and Comweb Technology as a Manager of Computer Hardrive Installations in Colleges. Bob and his Wife Charlotte Beasley met in 1997 and were married in 1998 at the very beautiful Madison Hotel in Madison, New Jersey. The couple had a wonderful life together after moving to Boca Raton and became involved with many community groups down here. They travelled to Istambul, Turkey, Athens Greece andd the Greek Isles on their honeymoon. The couple has also joined Via Mizner Country Club where Bob was a Senior Tennis Champion several years. He was the father of Pamela and Glen Beasley and the grandfather of Melanie Beasley and had three great grandchildren. Bob will be sorely missed by all that knew him. Two Females Sought in Jewelry Thefts
Boca Raton Police detectives are looking for two women responsible for two separate high-end jewelry thefts that happened last fall. The first theft occurred on October 24 2016, but was not immediately discovered, at Neiman Marcus, 5860 West Glades Road. After reviewing surveillance video, Neiman Marcus security saw an employee showing two females numerous pieces of jewelry. At one point, one female distracted the employee. Meanwhile, the second suspect took a Borgioni diamond bracelet and walked out of the store, while the first suspect continued to speak with the employee. The second theft happened on November 26 at Mayor's Jewelers, 6000
FAU Nursing Programs Ranked in Latest ‘U.S. News & World Report’
West Glades Road. An employee told officers that two females entered the store and looked at various items before asking to see engagement rings. The employee took out a collection of rings. One suspect tried on one ring, while the other suspect looked at the holder containing the other rings. One suspect said she needed to get her husband, and both suspects walked out of the store. The employee then looked closely at the rings and saw one ring had been replaced with a fake diamond ring. The surveillance video showed the same two suspects. The suspects are both black females, heavyset, one suspect 30-40 years old, with short hair; the second suspect 50-60 years old wearing a pink wrap on her head during both thefts. The Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University has received a ranking of No. 44 for its Doctor of Nursing (DNP) program and No. 45 for its Master of Science Nursing (MSN) program by the U.S. News & World Report 2018 Best Graduate Schools Guidebook. The College’s MSN is the second-ranked program in Florida and the top-ranked DNP program in the state. “We are delighted and honored to be recognized among this elite set of nursing schools – both public and private in these latest rankings by ‘U.S. News & World Report,’” said Marlaine Smith, Ph.D., R.N., dean of FAU’s College of Nursing. “We remain driven in raising both the visibility and stature of FAU’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing and these new rankings coupled with our exceptional faculty and staff as well as our outstanding students are indicators that we are making great strides in the delivery of education, research, health care and community outreach.” A total of 532 accredited institutions were eligible to be included in the rankings of master’s or doctoral nursing programs — 292 were included in rankings based on a weighted average of 14 indicators for the master’s program rankings and 186 qualified for the DNP rankings. The magazine evaluated a number of criteria for the rankings, including acceptance rates, average GPAs, student/ faculty ratio, degrees awarded, peer assessments, quality of faculty, enrollment

Each year, U.S. News & World Report ranks programs in business, education, engineering, law, nursing and medicine. The data come from statistical surveys sent to administrators at more than 1,970 graduate programs and from reputation surveys sent to more than 16,500 academics and professionals in the disciplines. FAU’s College of Nursing excelled in the percent of faculty active in nursing practice, number of master’s degrees awarded, number of teaching and practice grants, percent of faculty with doctoral degrees, affordability, and percent with distinguished fellowships, placing the College in the top 30 of the ranked schools in those categories. It brings certified nursing assistants and home health care aides into seniors’ apartments and houses to help them with bathing, toileting, feeding and other daily requirements. Social workers also check in regularly to make sure the senior is comfortable or in need of additional services, such as a psychologist or a house cleaner.

Finding Good Ideas When Old Ones Will Not Do I had an unusual dream recently. In the dream, I was walking down a country road and it was beginning to get muddy. The farther I walked, the muddier it became. Before long the mud was over my shoes, then up to my knees. After a while I was trudging along in mud up to my waist. In my dream, I looked around and saw there were about a dozen people with me; we began to argue about which way to go and how to get out of the mud. Before long a young man came jogging by and asked us why we were all stuck in the mud. I looked at him and noticed he was about 20 feet away on a paved path. I quickly got out of the mud and joined him on the pavement, soon found a hotel where I had been staying, and was back to safety. I woke up from the dream before I could learn whether I went back to rescue the other people stuck in the mud or if they followed me to the pavement. However, I immediately recognized the metaphor. We often get stuck in the mud and expend so much energy trying to make some progress that we fail to see that there is a clear path, an easy way of escape, not far off. Sometimes this is literally true, even for entire communities and whole towns that have become stuck in the mud. The poorest county and the richest county in my state of Kansas, for example, are connected by a four-lane highway. However, the poor people stuck in the mud cannot see the nearby highway that could take them out, or they are simply afraid of the unknown they might encounter down the road. I have heard it said that one of the worst things in the world is a good idea – if we have just one. We become so committed to a single plan, whether at
work or in our personal lives, that we fail to see a better way close at hand. I can remember several times where I felt “stuck” or lacking a solution to a problem, and always appreciated having someone close by who shows me a way out. We need to express thanks to those who have been willing to share their knowledge and insights to keep others moving along on a good path. Here are some thoughts from the Bible about how to free ourselves from unproductive ideas: It helps to seek fresh viewpoints. Often ideas that keep us stuck are paradigms, described as our unique ways of processing the information available to us. Sometimes the solution is to solicit help from people “outside the paradigm,” that offer a different perspective or suggest different ways of approaching the problem. “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed” (Proverbs 15:22). Be open to new ideas. One definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing the same way over and over, while expecting different results. Trusted advisers can expose faults in our thinking and suggest better, more productive alternatives. “Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise” (Proverbs 19:20). There is always a way to escape. Sometimes the “mud” in our lives is a harmful or destructive habit. The Bible calls it “sin.” We might believe we are stuck, with no way of extricating ourselves from it, but we are promised that is not true. “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it” (1 Corinthians 10:13). About 60 people were in attendance, followed by a luncheon at Stallone’s in Boca Raton. Walt Disney has certainly gotten its money’s worth out of the tale of “Beauty and the Beast.” The original folk tale dates to 1740, but it was Disney’s 1991 animated version that really took off, with songs by Howard Ashman (lyrics) and Alan Menkin with additional songs by Tim Rice. The 2017 live action version features songs from 1991 movie and the Broadway stage version plus new songs and a lavish setting that is purported to be the most expensive ever at $160 million. Former child actress Emma Watson plays Belle, the Beauty of the title. We watched Emma grow up in eight Harry Potter movies, starting in 2001 when she was 11. She is now a woman of 26, but she still looks like a teenager. Contrasted with hulking Dan Stevens as the Beast she seems fragile and delicate. Belle is a bookish girl who lives with her widower father Maurice (Kevin Kline) in a small French village. The bookish aspect of her personality is played down in this movie version, written by Stephen Chbosky (“The Perks of Being a Wallflower”) and Evan Spiliotopulos (“Hercules”) and directed by Bill Condon (“Dreamgirls”). The heroic and courageous character of Belle is played up. This comes into play when Maurice gets lost in the woods and ends up at

the Beast’s castle, where he is imprisoned. When Maurice’s horse turns up riderless in the village, Belle hops on him and gallops off to face the Beast herself. As in the traditional tale, the Beast is really a Prince who has been cursed by a witch, who has also turned his servants into animated household objects. This is where the Disney movie really shines thanks to CGI animation that offers much greater expression than the costumed stage version. The A-list cast includes Ewen McGregor as Lumiere; Ian McKellan as Cogsworth; Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts; Audra McDonald as Madame Garderobe; Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette. Some people have been upset by the implied gay vibrations of LeFou (Josh Gad) for his best friend Gaston. It is really much ado about nothing. Gad is funny and adoring. Luke Evans’ Gaston is a huge improvement over the cartoon and the stage show. He is much more virile and menacing in this version, which underscores the courage of Belle and the selfsacrifice of the Beast. I wasn’t thrilled to see yet another version of this time-honored fable about the triumph of love over physical appearances, but I was pleasantly surprised. You may be too. Three and a half stars

Ultimate Soccer Store will host the first-ever Topps Match Attax Tournament inside a soccer store in the United States since the trading card game was first introduced in the US back in 2009. Already the world’s leading trading card game, and highly popular in the United Kingdom where it has been the highest-selling collectible card game for the last two years, Ultimate Soccer Store will host the Match Attax tournament at their Boca Raton store on Saturday, March 18 at 12 P.M. It is estimated that around 1.5 million people collect the trading cards in the UK, and 2.5 million people around the world. “We are very excited to be the first Soccer Store in the United States to host the highly popular trading card tournament,” said Ultimate Soccer Store

Owls Racing Takes Second at Formula South Invitational By: Kelsie Weekes Owls Racing, Florida Atlantic University’s Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) racing team, recently took home second place at the fifth annual Formula South Invitational hosted by Kennesaw State University Motorsports in Marietta, Ga. The team, competing with its OR-16 racecar, placed second in acceleration and endurance and sixth in skid pad. The team’s second place overall finish put them ahead of other teams such as the University of Florida, Georgia Tech and the University of South Florida. “Owls Racing continues to grow and succeed because of the knowledge and skills of returning members that gets passed down each year,” said Marco Cheraso, president of the club team. “We work hard, critique our work, make changes and come out stronger every time.” Six members of Owls Racing made the trip to Georgia to compete, including Obrien Lavin, Jeron Bornstein, Seth Chapman, Thomas Strickland, Joshua Mesnick and Mathew Burgos. The rest of the team stayed behind to continue work on OR-17, the team’s newest racecar. Along with Cheraso, those team members included Halle Mayne, Stephen

The Lynn University Fighting Knights improved their record to 17-7 after beating Molloy College by a score of 11-2 Monday afternoon at home. Lynn sent Victor Danza to the mound to start the game. It was his fourth appearance and third start of the season, with his last being a no decision in which he allowed four runs in four innings before the team went on to win 10-9. Danza got through the first without too much trouble, only surrendering a two-out double to Angelo Navetta before Michael Rahn hit a grounder to the shortstop for the third out. Molloy’s starting pitcher Kevin Hiss easily retired Patrick Dorrian to start the bottom half of the inning, but a hit and two walks loaded the bases for the Fighting Knights. Karl Ellison then hit a ball right back to the mound for an out, but it gave them their first run and advanced the other runners. Jake Rouse followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to three. The hit also extended his personal hitting streak to 18 games. Molloy tried to start a two-out rally in the top half of the second, getting two runners into scoring position, but Danza was able to get the final out to keep them scoreless. With Lynn up by five heading into the third, they were able to score two more runs through some strange circumstances. Ellison was able to reach first on an error and eventually scored on a balk by Hiss, which also advanced Rouse to third. Ben Fagan then walked and attempted to steal second base, which he was easily able to do thanks to a wild pitch which also
allowed Rouse to score. The Fighting Knights were holding onto a 7-0 lead heading into the fifth inning before Fagan connected for his first career home run, a two-run shot which improved their lead to 9-0. Molloy was finally able to break into the run column in the seventh when Anthony Galanoudis grounded out to second base, bringing home Sean Hogan. Danza was able to complete the inning and finished with one earned run allowed on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Philip Quinn came in to pitch the final two innings for the Fighting Knights in the eighth, allowing only a run to seal the 11-2 victory. Danza’s record improved to 2-0 and he lowered his ERA to 3.60 on the season. Rouse led the team from the offensive side with a 3-for-4 game, along with two RBIs and two runs scored. The loss went to Hiss (0-4). His final line was seven runs allowed, six earned, on five hits and three walks through three innings. The score reflects another strong offensive showing from the Fighting Knights, who now have a team batting average of .360 through their first 24 games of the season, along with 45 home runs.
