The Baer family’s impact in the Federation is profound, spanning generations with an overwhelming commitment to the Federation’s work. The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County would not exist without Jimmy Baer and his wife Margie, who were visionaries that saw the need for South Palm Beach to be an independent Jewish Federation separate from the one in Palm Beach.

“It is companies like Baer’s Furniture that sustain our community,” said Geil Bilu, B&P Icon Event Co-Chair. “Their consistent support and community involvement are essential for fos-

tering local initiatives and improving the lives of our fellow residents.”

B&P Division sponsors included Berger Singerman, Haven Home Health and Hotwire Communications- Fision. B&P Industry Icon Event sponsors included Baer’s Furniture Company Inc.; BDO; Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith – Attorneys at Law; and Marsh & McLenna. The event’s exclusive magazine sponsor was The Boca Raton Observer and its in-kind sponsor was Southern Glazers Wine & Spirits.

The event was made possible by the dedicated efforts of Overall B&P Division Chairs Geil Bilu and Sandy Gerstein, and Industry Icon Event CoChair Shari Cohen.

Baer’s Furniture, a fourth-generation family-owned business, has graced beautiful homes for almost 80 years, and South Florida for well over 50. Founded in 1945 by Melvin and Lucile Baer, their vision extended beyond mere commerce. The funds were raised through signature fundraising events, including the Golf Challenge, Walk the Walk, and a luncheon featuring Food Network star Chef Alex Guarnaschelli. Funds were also raised through an Annual Appeal to members of Boca West Country Club, donations from donors throughout the area, and a raffle drawing.

“All of this was made possible due to the hard work and dedication of our Board of Directors, members of Boca West Country Club, and donors in our community,” said Pamela Weinroth, Executive Director of the Foundation.

“We have raised a total of $19 million since the launch of Boca West Children’s Foundation in 2010.”

Richard Zenker, Chairman of Boca West Children’s Foundation Board, said “The funds we grant to our charity partners directly help children and families in need, from providing backpacks with food, to diapers, beds, aftercare, tutoring, summer and sports camps, counseling, college scholarships, and so much more.”

The Boca West Children’s Foundation was launched in 2010 and came about as a desire by the thousands of volunteers from the Boca West Country Club to give back to children in Palm Beach County. “The Pap Corps’ remarkable fundraising continues to have a profound impact on Sylvester’s ability to translate cutting-edge research into life-saving treatments for patients,” said Susan Dinter, Chair. “Dr. Moskowitz remarked that he often references The Pap Corps when he speaks with other cancer centers, none of which have a similar dedicated support organization. Early in my banking career, I had the difficult task of communicating to one of our customers that our loan committee had decided to decline his loan request. When I met with this individual, I thought I had delivered the bad news with gentleness and sensitivity.

However, I soon discovered there was a problem. The next day the customer called and asked, “So, when do I pick up a check from my loan?” I groaned inwardly as I realized I now needed to communicate the bank’s decision again, more directly and assertively this time.

There are many dynamics involved in the communication process, but one simple model distills it into a few essential parts: The Sender (or Messenger); the Message; the Receiver (or Recipient of the Message), and Feedback (or Response from the Recipient). The Sender conveys the Message to the intended Recipient in some manner, whether in person, in writing, or in visual or audi-

FAITH

The Illusion Of Communication

tory form. Then the Recipient (hopefully) responds in similar fashion to confirm the Message has been received.

One way of defining communication, as a friend of mine likes to say, is “the successful exchange of meaning.”

In other words, the Sender and Recipient are in agreement about what has been said and the intended meaning. When this does not happen, we have a failure to communicate.

That was what happened with my interaction with the bank customer. I meant one thing, but what the customer heard and understood was something very different. As playwright George Bernard Shaw observed, “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”

What is the remedy? How can we be certain to achieve the successful exchange of meaning? We could take numerous courses on communication theory and principles, but one of the best

sources for learning how to effectively communicate is by reading the Bible. Here are some of its insights:

Speak the truth. Delivering hard news, even though it may seem difficult, requires directness, truth, and compassion. As Zechariah 8:16, in the Bible’s Old Testament, teaches, “These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts.”

Communicate with compassion. If we are not careful, speaking the truth without sensitivity can be as painful as hitting someone with a hammer. Therefore, without compromising the truth we need to convey, we should strive to communicate it with appropriate sensitivity. “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to be-

come in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ” (Ephesians 4:14-15).

Truth leads to freedom. Delivering unwelcome news is one of the most difficult tasks we must perform. Relationships are important, and bad news can jeopardize a valued relationship. However, we do people a disservice when we attempt to withhold the truth from them or express it in a way that might easily be misunderstood. As Jesus told His followers concerning the Word of God, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32). Truth will always set us free.

David Waldshan Educational Endowment Fund To Expand Education of Holocaust and Human Rights

Boca Raton, FL – Ben and Liz Waldshan recently established the David Waldshan Educational Endowment Fund at Florida Atlantic University to expand education and deepen knowledge of the Holocaust and human rights. The fund will amplify the mission of the Arthur and Emalie Gutterman Family Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education to provide professional learning opportunities to educators in South Florida by teaching the history of the Holocaust to combat prejudice, hatred and indifference. The gift was made in memory of Ben Waldshan’s father, David Waldshan, a Holocaust survivor.

“The Florida Atlantic Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education, championing education as our best hope against hatred, is a perfect fi t for us to honor my father’s greatest wish: to ensure that atrocities like the Holocaust never happen again,” said Ben Waldshan. “In today’s current environment, where antisemitism is troublingly on the rise, we feel it’s more important than ever to support the center for its hard work and to accelerate its impact.”

The Waldshans live in Boca Raton and Ben is part of the Gutterman Family Center advisory board at Florida Atlantic. The center is based in Florida Atlantic’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and serves K-12 teachers as well as Florida Atlantic students through professional development workshops, the annual Holocaust Summer Institute for Educators, intensive travel-study opportunities, and community programs. Research has demonstrated that learning about the Holocaust in school is pos-

itively associated with citizenship values in adults. Studies have also shown that Holocaust education facilitates the development of students’ tolerance and intolerance, as well as their prosocial behavioral skills.

“This endowment gift represents a commitment to education and supports our mission that education is our best hope against hatred,” said Linda Medvin, director of the Gutterman Family Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education.

The Gutterman Family Center will be part of the future Kurt and Marilyn Wallach Holocaust and Jewish Studies Building to be built on Florida Atlantic’s Boca Raton campus. Construction of the building is estimated for completion in the fall of 2025.

“I greatly appreciate the Waldshan’s gift honoring Ben’s father that will support the vital Holocaust education programs we offer in the college,” said Michael Horswell, dean of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. “As we expand the impact of the Kurt and Marilyn Wallach Building for Holocaust and Jewish Studies to include the recently announced Craig and Barbara Weiner Holocaust Museum of South Florida at Florida Atlantic University, their generosity ensures generations will continue to learn the lessons from the great misfortune that Ben’s father survived.”

For more information about the fund and the Kurt and Marilyn Wallach Holocaust and Jewish Studies building, contact Laurie Carney at lcarney@ fau.edu.

Florida Division of Emergency Management Encourages Preparedness as 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season Begins

Tallahassee, FL – The Florida Division of Emergency Management (Division) marks the official start of the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season, June 1, and encourages Floridians to prepare their families and their businesses.

“I have spent the last month traveling around the state, making myself available to all county emergency managers to discuss concerns and best practices ahead of this hurricane season,” said Division Executive Director Kevin Guthrie. “Under the leadership of Governor DeSantis, the state is equipped with the resources it needs to support communities during a potentially very active season, but preparedness begins in individual homes and businesses. I urge all Floridians to finalize their plans now – once a storm forms and threatens our state, it’s too late to prepare.”

Throughout the month of May, Executive Director Guthrie personally traveled to all 10 Division-designated regions of the state to meet with county emergency management officials and discuss preparedness and coordination efforts ahead of the 2024 hurricane season. These roundtable discussions allowed Executive Director Guthrie to directly address community concerns and unmet needs, ensuring ample state support stands at the ready if a storm threatens Florida this hurricane season.

The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1 and runs until November 30 with the historical peak of activity occurring in September. This year, two disaster preparedness sales tax holidays coincide with the beginning and peak times of hurricane season. Governor DeSantis announced the first twoweek disaster preparedness sales tax holiday, beginning June 1, here.

The Division urges all Floridians to have preparations in place for their personal and family needs in the event a

storm threatens their community.

Preparedness efforts and resources include:

Get Educated, Get Informed

Learn about community disaster plans and community warning systems. Every household is encouraged to have a battery-operated or hand-crank weather radio to ensure they can continue to receive alerts from the National Weather Service in the event of power outages or damaged cell towers.

Register to receive life-saving emergency weather alerts at FloridaDisaster. org/AlertFlorida.

Make a Plan

Make a list of personal household needs and resources for meeting them in a disaster environment.

Include all members of the family, including children, in the disaster preparedness planning process, so that everyone knows what to do in the event of an emergency.

Pets are part of the family, too –identify a safe place to take pets if you cannot bring them with you during an evacuation. Never leave household pets behind during a hurricane or tropical storm.

Make a family plan at FloridaDisaster.org/PlanPrepare, and make a business plan at Business.FloridaDisaster. org.

Inventory Home Possessions

Make a record of your possessions – in writing or video – to help claim reimbursement in case of loss or damage.

Reduce Home Hazards

Have defective electrical wiring and leaky gas connections repaired.

Place large, heavy objects on lower shelves.

Have cracks in ceilings and foundations repaired.

Make landscaping hurricane-resistant by trimming trees and plants down and putting any items inside that may turn into dangerous projectiles in high winds.

Prepare an Emergency Kit

Every household should have a fully stocked disaster supply kit with at least seven days of items for each household member, including consideration of children, pets and seniors.

Florida’s Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday begins tomorrow, June 1, and provides residents with the opportunity to purchase supplies tax-free during one of two 14-day Disaster Prepared-

ness Sales Tax Holidays.

For a full disaster supply kit checklist, visit FloridaDisaster.org/Kit.

Safeguard Important Records and Documents

Keep copies of important family records and other documents (birth and marriage certificates, Social Security cards, passports, wills, deeds, insurance cards, etc.) in a safe deposit box or other waterproof location.

Know Your Zone, Know Your Home

Visit FloridaDisaster.org/Know to learn if you live in an evacuation zone or low-lying flood-prone area.

Know your home’s ability to withstand hurricane-force winds.

Follow all evacuation orders issued by local county emergency management officials.

If You’re Halfway Full, You’re Halfway There

During hurricane season, vehicles should always have at least half a tank of gas or be halfway charged to ensure they have enough fuel to evacuate as soon as possible without worrying about long lines at gas stations and to avoid gas shortages prior to a storm.

Evacuate Tens of Miles, Not Hundreds of Miles

Evacuations do not have to be hundreds of miles away – they can typically be tens of miles inland to a location that can withstand hurricane-force winds and remain out of reach from life-threatening storm surge.

Unforgettable Day at the Student ACES Golf Tournament: A Celebration of Camaraderie, Competition, and Charity

Boca Raton, FL – FORE!!! Just as expected, it was shouted quite a few times during the Student ACES Golf Tournament at PGA National’s Fazio Course on Friday May 17, 2024.

It was a day to remember, fi lled with excitement, friendly competition, and a strong sense of community spirit. With over 100 participants, the event was a resounding success, bringing together golf enthusiasts –and those who have never even picked up a club – for a common cause.

From the fi rst tee to the fi nal putt, the air was fi lled with laughter, cheers, and the occasional groan of a missed shot, all contributing to an atmosphere of camaraderie and enjoyment. Old friends reconnected, new friendships were forged, and everyone left with a smile, knowing they had been part of something special and something that supports the mission of Student ACES – to create CHAMPIONS an acronym for the organization’s core values: Command Respect, Honor Your Word, Aspire to Greatness, Maintain Courage, Possess a Work Ethic Second to None, Inspire Others, Own a Winning Attitude, Never Settle, and Sacrifi ce for Self and Team.

But beyond the enjoyment and the competitive spirit, the Student ACES Golf Tournament had a profound purpose. Every swing of the club and every hole completed helped raise funds for Student ACES, an organization dedicated to creating CHAMPIONS. By participating, golfers not only enjoyed a challenging and rewarding day on the greens, but also contributed to a cause that inspires young student-athletes to continue to lead.

The funds raised will go directly towards programs that support the development of leadership, character, and academic excellence in high school student athletes. This year’s tournament was a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared vision of making a difference.

Hats off to winners: Ariel Browning, Bo Schlechter, Chad Freeman, Ryan Fowler from Everglades Farm Equipment.

Almost Two-Thirds of Home Fires Are Due to Human Error. Here’s How to Prepare

(StatePoint) The threat of a home fire is greater than most people think. In fact, 40% of people believe they are more likely to win the lottery or get struck by lightning than experience a home fire, yet residential fires are the most common disaster people face in the United States, according to the American Red Cross. Here’s how to help prevent fires, and how to prepare for the worst:

Be Informed: The National Fire Protection Association reports that 60% of home fires are due to human error. It’s important to realize that humans are flawed. We forget things, we mess up, and we’re often distracted. Accepting the fact that a house fire is a real possibility is an important step in the right direction. There are simple actions you can take to help prevent accidents. For starters, cooking is the leading cause of house fires. Never leave cooking unattended. Keep the cooking area free of flammable items such as potholders, towels and packaging, and always maintain a 3-foot safety zone free of pets and kids.

Update Your Smoke Detection Devices: While taking safety precautions is critical, having the latest fire safety technology can provide an extra layer of de-

tection. Pioneers in the home safety field are providing new solutions that give homeowners more control over their safety, and like many technologies, today’s smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have come a long way. In fact, the new Kidde Detect devices provide over 25% faster smoke detection (29% faster average smoke detection based on internal testing of smoldering wood fires for Kidde 9th Edition vs. leading competitor 8th Edition products) that’s three times more precise (in terms of consistency and range of obscuration rate, based on internal testing for Kidde 9th Edition vs. leading competitor 8th Edition products). This is a critical improvement, as statistics show that people have less than

2 minutes to safely escape a house fire, so every second counts.

Tech expert Marc Saltzman explains, “This technology is revolutionary because it features enhanced sensing technology to reduce nuisance alarms.”

“Nuisance alarms,” also known as false alarms, refer to when smoke alarms beep but there is no threat of fire. They are often caused by cooking activities and lead many consumers to disconnect their devices out of frustration. Upgrading your safety devices to Kidde Detect Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors means your alarms are more likely to remain installed, so both you and your

home can be as safe as possible. All Kidde Detect devices include a self-testing feature that when combined with routine manual testing and maintenance, ensures the alarm is always operating as expected (self-testing is not a substitute for a manual push test of the alarm), and the devices go above and beyond the latest UL 8th edition standards to meet 9th edition. Once you have your new detectors, be sure to install them on every level of your home, in hallways, and both inside and outside every sleeping area.

Be Prepared: A working smoke alarm can double the chance of escaping from a home fire safely, but that’s just the first line of defense. It’s also important to create a home fire escape plan. Kidde’s fire safety toolkit is a great resource to help families prepare for a fire emergency.

For more fire safety tips and information on how to upgrade your devices, visit Kidde.com.

While many people assume that a fire can’t happen to them, the truth is that everyone makes mistakes. Having the right life-saving tools can help protect you and your family.

Don’t Toss Those Old Sneakers. Do This Instead

(StatePoint) What if there was a way to reduce waste, create economic opportunities and improve global health?

Thanks to social enterprise Sneaker Impact, and its partners like Rack Room Shoes, now there is. Here’s how it works:

Anyone can recycle their gently used sneakers at any Rack Room Shoes location by simply dropping them into the collection boxes found in each store. The sneakers are then shipped to Sneaker Impact’s headquarters in Miami, Florida, where they are sorted for distribution.

• International Distribution: Usable sneakers are shipped to small businesses in developing countries. Local merchants revive and resell the sneakers, providing affordable footwear to children and adults in those communities. This initiative empowers local businesses and promotes sustainability by keeping sneakers out of landfills.

• Shoe Recycling: Sneakers that are not suitable for international distribution are delivered to a recycling facility in Florida. There, they are converted into energy that benefits Broward County and surrounding areas. Moreover, Sneaker Impact has been working on finding

an alternative, circular economy solution for all footwear deemed end of life. Since its inception, Rack Room Shoes has collected an average of nearly 600 pairs of usable sneakers each month. The retailer aims to raise awareness about the program and increase sneaker collections to create a lasting

social and environmental impact.

In addition to the partnership with Rack Room Shoes, Sneaker Impact donates $1,000 per month to Shoes That Fit, a national nonprofit organization that provides shoes to students in need in an effort to help them focus on their studies.

Visit your local Rack Room Shoes store to find a recycling co-branded box and aid in reducing waste and supporting communities. To learn more about Rack Room Shoes Gives sustainability efforts visit https://www.rackroomshoes.com/ responsibility/gives.

Whether you have kids with rapidly growing feet, or you walk and run often, you likely go through lots of pairs of sneakers. Thankfully, now there’s a great alternative to tossing them that benefits both people and the planet.

The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County and Secure Community Network Announce Hiring of Brandon Waller to Bolster Community Safety and Security

Boca Raton, FL — The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County and the Secure Community Network (SCN), the offi cial safety and security organization for the Jewish community in North America, today announced the hiring of Brandon Waller as the Community Security Director of South Palm Beach County.

Waller will oversee the safety and security of the over 200,000 Jewish residents of Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Highland Beach. In this role, he will administer the Federation’s community security program, which provides consultations, building and organizational assessments, training and drills, threat mitigation to Jewish organizations, and response coordination for critical incidents. Waller is assuming this role from Alan Poland, who was elevated to SCN’s Florida Regional Director.

“First, I would like to thank Alan Poland for his tremendous work in expanding and strengthening our security-related relationships and furthering our education on the best methods of making our community more secure,” said Jill Rose, Board Chair of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. “We are excited to continue this important work with Brandon Waller, and are confi dent that he will lend his expertise and knowledge to our community in ways that will make us stronger, more connected and more vigilant.”

“SCN is grateful to have Brandon Waller as the next Security Director of South Palm Beach County. With his extensive resume in law enforcement and security services, including experience with the FBI and SWAT, Waller is well equipped to reinforce the safety, security, and resiliency of the South Palm Beach County Jewish community

amid an unprecedented complex and dynamic threat landscape,” said SCN National Director and CEO Michael Masters.

Prior to joining SCN, Waller served as a Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from 2003 to 2024, serving at FBI Headquarters, the FBI New York Field Office, and in Toronto, Canada. He worked in a variety of programs, investigating violent criminal organizations, egregious internet threats, and international terrorism emanating from Africa. Additionally, Waller served as a SWAT Operator for more than 12 years while assigned to New York.

Most recently, he served as the FBI representative to an inter-agency committee responsible for coordinating multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional complex narcotics and gang investigations. Before his career in law enforcement, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Captain. Waller holds a bachelor’s degree in his-

tory from Binghamton University and a master’s degree in homeland security from Penn State University.

“I am honored to join SCN and serve the Jewish communities of greater South Palm Beach County, working to enhance their safety and security infrastructure and supporting the continuation of robust Jewish life,” said Waller, South Palm Beach County Security Director. “This jurisdiction has a well-established security program, and I look forward to meaningfully educating residents and expanding our relationships with local law enforcement and community partners.”

The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County is part of a growing network of Jewish Federations and communities that have partnered with SCN to launch or build upon existing community-wide security programs designed around an “all threats, all hazards” approach to preparedness, safety, security, and resiliency. Each program is connected to SCN’s national opera-

tions, providing direct access to SCN’s National Jewish Security Operations Command Center and Duty Desk, as well as best practice security resources and support related to policies, procedures, physical security, facility assessments, training, and incident response.

The Secure Community Network (SCN), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is the offi cial safety and security organization of the Jewish community in North America. Founded in 2004 under the auspices of The Jewish Federations of North America and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, SCN serves as the central organization dedicated exclusively to the safety and security of the American Jewish community, working across 146 federations, 50 partner organizations, over 300 independent communities, and other partners in the public, private, nonprofi t, and academic sectors. Sixty-nine Florida Locals Pedal Toward Record-Breaking $75 Million Fundraising Goal in the 2024 Pan-Mass Challenge

Boca Raton, FL – On Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4, 6,500 riders, including 69 residents from Florida, will participate in the milestone 45th PanMass Challenge (PMC) with the goal of raising a record $75 million for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Dana-Farber). This year, the PMC, which is Dana-Farber’s largest single contributor, will cross $1 billion in lifetime fundraising for the Institute.

“Thanks to the fierce determination of PMC riders, volunteers, donors and sponsors, I’m confident that this will be our biggest fundraising year yet,” said Billy Starr, founder and executive director of the PMC. “We’re well positioned to cross $1 billion in total donations for cancer research and treatment since I founded the PMC in 1980 – I am looking forward to cycling alongside everyone on the road in August as we hit this momentous achievement together.”

As the #3 top-grossing peer-to-peer fundraising organization in the country, the PMC donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to Dana-Farber to support cancer research and patient care, accounting for 62 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue. For more than four decades, PMC funds have allowed Dana-Farber to achieve lifesaving clinical breakthroughs and advancements. In the last five years alone, Dana-Farber doctors and researchers have played a substantial role in developing more than half of all cancer drugs approved by the FDA.

Cyclists come together from all corners of the world to ride between 25 and 211 miles—6 countries and 44 states, territories, and districts—with one mission: to raise as much money as possible for Dana-Farber. Most participate in honor of a family member or friend fighting cancer, and nearly 1,000 riders and volunteers are cancer survivors or current patients, considered Living Proof® of the PMC mission. There are also 160 Dana-Farber employees committed to the cause as riders and volunteers, in some cases to fund their own cancer research.

There is still time to be #OneInABillion by participating in this year’s ride – registration for PMC 2024 is open through July 1. Join riders from your community in the fight against cancer by registering for one of the following routes still available:

25 & 50-Mile Routes (1-Day, 25 or 50 Miles; Sunday, August 4):

Starting and finishing in either Wellesley or Foxboro at Patriot Place, these Sunday routes are perfect single day options. Wellesley Century Ride (1-Day, 100 Miles; Sunday, August 4):

The scenic Wellesley Century route is

for riders looking to challenge their endurance in a single day format while making an impact in the fight against cancer.

The PMC is co-presented by the Red Sox Foundation® and M&T Bank. To make a financial contribution to a rider from your town or to register as a rider, visit www.pmc.org, or call (800) WE-CYCLE. Connect with #PMC2024 on Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn.

The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is a bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event’s executive director, an annual cyclist and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $972 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause, generating 62 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue as Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. The PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors and individual contributors, all of which are essential to the PMC’s goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC’s hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber’s doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers. Her multifaceted career spans music, fashion, and literature, making her a dynamic addition to the board. Radmila first captured the

music world’s attention in 2016 with her debut album, “IV Stories at the Standard Hotel Op. 6,” performed with the electro-acoustic string quartet Scorchio during an exclusive gala concert at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall.

She continued to impress with her second album, “Wonderland,” which she co-produced and co-wrote, launching it in 2018 with a self-produced night of Opera & Couture at Carnegie Hall. This event not only showcased her musical prowess but also her talent in fashion design. Radmila’s music blends classical and contemporary elements, highlighted by her classically trained, sultry voice.

In 2019, Radmila’s duet “U R Moving Me” climbed to Number 21 on the Billboard Dance Chart, with her follow-up single “Tonight” also gaining traction before being paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her recent work includes the 2021 single “MAGIC,” an ode to Miami, which she followed with a successful remix in collaboration with DJ Mike Tee, reaching the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 Indicator Chart.

Beyond music, Radmila is a prolific fashion designer. Her creations have graced many celebrities, such as Gayle King, Natti Natasha, and Bebe Rexha, on both the red carpet and in major magazine editorials like Vogue and

Harper’s Bazaar. Notably, her Miami Heat jersey gown, worn during the NBA playoffs, earned her the title of “The Most Fashionable Courtside Seat Holder in the NBA” in 2023.

Radmila is also an emerging author, set to release her debut book “Life Is a Bridge” in 2024, with plans for a 5D show and TV series adaptation. She is deeply committed to philanthropy, holding board positions with Florida Grand Opera and Leap for Ladies. She is also on the Chair of the Green Room Society, and an Advisory board member at Shalala Music Reach.

FGO is enthusiastic about the fresh energy and vision Radmila brings. “Art is limitless – any art form can be combined. We live in 2024; we don’t know if Mozart and Puccini would have lived today what kind of music they would have created. I believe in art that moves people; it’s not about perfection – perfection doesn’t exist, but emotions that follow the melody are the power of music,” Radmila shared.

Tina Duart Vidal, Board Chair of FGO, expressed her excitement about Radmila’s appointment: “We are delighted to welcome Radmila Lolly to our Board of Directors. Her unique blend of artistic talents and her innovative and entrepreneurial spirit align perfectly with our vision for the future of Florida Grand Opera. We are con-

fident that Radmila will bring a fresh perspective and dynamic energy to our organization.”

Maria Todaro, FGO’s General Director, also welcomed Radmila, highlighting the broad impact of her work: “Radmila’s accomplishments in fashion and sports will help us reach new audiences and bring a contemporary flair to our historic institution. Her creative vision and diverse experiences are exactly what we need to engage with the next generation of opera lovers.”

Florida Grand Opera produces classic grand opera, contemporary works, and new commissions in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Founded in 1941 as the Opera Guild of Greater Miami by Arturo Di Filippi, it merged with the Opera Guild of Fort Lauderdale in 1994, and is now under the direction of Maria Todaro. Florida Grand Opera was the first producing arts organization in the state of Florida and is the seventh oldest opera company in the United States. The Florida Grand Opera Studio Artists program trains opera stars of tomorrow on the skills necessary to develop a successful opera career learning from world-class artists staring on the FGO stages.
