GABRIELA BARBIERI

“If you … know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11 (NIV)

God is the source of everything. He made everything you see in the world—and everything you can’t see in the world and in the universe.

As you depend on God as your source for everything, there are four truths you need to remember.

First, everything is a gift from God.

Nothing you have has really been earned. It’s all a gift of God’s grace.

Leadership. There are many perspectives on what a conventional leader looks like, but years of experience have taught me that if we are serious about living out our faith in today’s marketplace, what is required is unconventional leadership. Here are some examples:

1) Unconventional priorities. A boss once asked me to sign off on certain legal documents that were illegally modified so our company could collect more money from a customer. For a moment, out of fear of losing my job, I begrudgingly accepted my boss’ demand. But then, God’s Spirit reminded me that He sees everything, and my loyalty should be to God first.

Even at the risk of losing my job, I told my boss I would not honor his request. He was not happy but respected my stand and never asked me to do anything unethical again.

An Unconventional Leader learns and believes that loyalty to God first, can result in God’s favor and wisdom. Proverbs

FAITH

God Is Waiting for You to Askt

If God didn’t want to give it, then you wouldn’t have it.

James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above” (NIV). That’s why the Lord’s Prayer says, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Why? Because everything God gives you is a gift. You can’t earn it—thank God for that, because none of us could work hard enough to deserve his good gifts.

Second, there’s nothing you need that God can’t provide. You don’t know what you’re going to need the rest of this year. But God knows, and he has the power to supply whatever it is.

The Bible says in Philippians 4:19, “My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (NIV). This means God gives gifts as only someone with unlimited resources could do. It won’t always look like you expected or wanted, but his gifts are always just what you need and for your good.

Third, God wants to give you everything you need.

Matthew 7:11 says, “If you … know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (NIV). God is not obligated to be generous to us. He does

A Personal Story Of Transformation

21:21 teaches, “One who pursues righteousness and loyalty finds life, righteousness, and honor.”

2) Unconventional respect. In the workplace conflict is inevitable. I have worked in places where leaders raged in anger at others to handle conflict, while others became passive aggressive, never sharing their feelings truthfully. But I have also experienced leaders who have handled conflict well. It usually begins with their mindset and humble heart.

These talented leaders begin with the desire to value, appreciate, and respect the other parties involved, first. Then, these leaders determine what truths need to be shared. Finally, they consider how to deliver that truth clearly, but in love.

An Unconventional Leader believes appreciating and respecting others in truth and love delivers a greater impact. In Ephesians 4:15, the apostle Paul wrote, “Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.”

3) Unconventional purpose. When you ask entrepreneurs why they started their businesses, most will say it was to make money. That’s not why Ryan Fee started Camel Culture. While volunteering at a refugee settlement, he and his wife learned what Somali refugees miss the most about their homeland are their camels and their camel’s milk. Out of compassion for these refugees, the Fees started a business of selling camel’s milk to them. The Fees were surprised by the great demand for their product.

An Unconventional Leader believes that approaching business with a higher purpose in mind results in far more than just profits. Jesus Christ taught, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).

There are other examples I could cite, including people who have endured great opposition due to their spiritual convictions. These Unconventional Leaders believe resolve, courage, and a high view of

it all out of his love. And he doesn’t hold back!

And here’s the fourth thing: God is waiting on you.

If you have needs in your life that are not being met, it’s not God’s fault. You’re not waiting on God. He’s waiting on you. James 4:2 says, “You do not have because you do not ask God” (NIV).

You don’t have to wait to clean yourself up or get things together before you ask God for something. He’s ready and waiting for you to ask him. When you do, you’ll discover just how good and generous a Father he is.

ethics are required to stand against a corrupt and immoral world. They understand what Proverbs 10:9 teaches: “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked with be found out.”

Selecting the Right Microwave for Your Kitchen

(StatePoint) As one of the most useful appliances in any kitchen, it’s no surprise that microwave ovens can be found in at least 90% of U.S. households, according to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics. That’s why choosing the right one is so important.

“While most Americans have a microwave, few are considering how its features and design elements can transform their entire kitchen’s look and functionality,” says Peter Weedfald, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Sharp Home Electronics Company of America.

According to Weedfald, one trend that’s here to stay is the drawer style mi-

crowave oven. “Sharp, the inventor of the drawer style microwave, revolutionized kitchen design by integrating functionality and aesthetics,” he explains. “While these may require professional installation and wiring, drawer style microwave ovens have a range of functional benefits that, for many homeowners, could make them well worth the effort,” he says.

Here are six ways drawer style microwaves can make your life simply better in the kitchen:

1. Their space-saving design frees up valuable countertop real estate, so you have more room for chopping, mixing and stirring.

2. Easy access from above makes it convenient to stir or add ingredients to your cooking vessel.

3. No turntable allows for larger and oddly-shaped dishes.

4. Their design works well for both right-handed and left-handed users, and are also accessible for individuals with disabilities depending on the appliance placement and the disability.

5. Access from above makes it easy to reach in and clean up accidental spills and splatter.

6. They elevate spaces with a sleek, seamless look.

If you do opt for a drawer style microwave, here are five major factors to consider:

1. Hands-free technology: When you’re busy in the kitchen, hands-free technology can save you tons of hassle. Select drawer style microwaves like the Sharp SMD2489ES, SMD2479JS, and SMD2499FS models that glide open by simply waving up and down near the motion sensor.

2. Finishes: Drawer style microwave ovens can be seamlessly built into kitchen cabinetry or set on a pedestal in a standard dishwasher cutout. Look for models that match your existing appliances. Common finishes include stainless steel, black stainless steel, or a combination of stainless steel and black glass.

3. Angled and hidden control panel: For a sleek design and to reduce the chances of unwanted operation, opt for

a control panel that can be hidden when not in use. Sharp offers microwave drawer ovens with a concealed control panel that open to an easy-to-read and operate 45-degree angle.

4. Convection cooking: Convection cooking transforms your microwave into a culinary powerhouse, allowing you to bake, roast and crisp foods to perfection all in one appliance. Elevate your cooking experience and streamline your kitchen with a model offering this versatile feature.

5. Smart connectivity: Enjoy smart cooking with Alexa Voice Commands with the Amazon Alexa App or your Echo Device (Amazon Echo device not included). The SMD2489ES, SMD2479JS, and SMD2499FS models from Sharp are all equipped with smart connectivity, enabling you to control and monitor your microwave from your smartphone or voice assistant.

“Ultimately, when choosing a microwave, factoring in your layout, cooking needs and budget can help ensure you find the perfect fit for your dream kitchen,” says Weedfald.

Tips for Older Americans to Protect Themselves Against Scams

(StatePoint) Scammers are getting better at what they do all the time. According to the Data Book, Americans reported losing $10 billion to scams in 2023, a full $1 billion more than in 2022. While anyone can be a victim, elderly people are often targeted, as they are presumed to have more savings.

According to CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professionals, you can help safeguard your financial future with these tips:

From romance scams to debt and IRS scams, many scammers use emotional appeals to scare or charm their victims into giving up personal information or their money. Before acting, take a deep breath and speak to a trusted friend or relative who may be able to help you spot a potential scam. Remember that the IRS initiates contact only through the U.S. mail, not via email, text or social media.

You can also do a bit of investigative work yourself. For example, if you receive an email claiming to be your bank or another institution asking you to click on a link, first make sure the request is legitimate. Do the return address and URL look right? Are there spelling errors? If you’re contacted by text or with a phone call, look up the number of the bank or company and call them back directly, not with the number provided.

Be Choosy

As you age, it’s common to enlist friends and family to help you make financial decisions and with everyday administrative tasks, like paying your taxes or your bills. Select who has access to your sensitive documents and online accounts carefully.

Also, never leave bills, statements and other identifying information lying around. You may want to invest in a paper shredder or a file cabinet with a lock so you can dispose of and store documents carefully. You should also ensure all your online accounts have strong passwords that are known only to you.

Finally, consider setting up automatic bill payments. This not only has the benefit of keeping you up-to-date on payments and helping you avoid late fees, it will also reduce the amount of sensitive paperwork you have in your home and receive by mail.

Seek Assistance

If you are the victim of identity theft or another scam, a CFP® professional can help you recover with a smart financial plan. They can also help you avoid becoming a victim in the first place by helping you monitor your accounts and by setting up notifications from your financial institutions when suspicious activity is detected. As a fiduciary, they have an ethical obligation to work in your best interests at all times and can be a valuable member of your money team. To find a CFP® professional near you, visit letsmakeaplan.org.

It’s easy to think identity fraud and other financial abuse is something that happens only to other people. But scam tactics are becoming more sophisticated, and anyone can be targeted. The best defense is staying abreast of the latest tactics and arming yourself with the assistance of trusted advocates.

The inaugural March to End Homelessness is part of The Lord’s Place’s effort to spread community and national awareness and raise the much needed funds to provide the resources, programs, and services needed to break the cycle of homelessness.

The significance of the event is to educate participants and change the lives of those who are homeless. By marching through West Palm Beach,

The Lord’s Place wants to raise awareness of the estimated 3,000 men, women, and children without a home on any given night in Palm Beach County. In the United States, many Americans are forced to choose between basic necessities like purchasing food, paying rent, or going to the doctor. The facts are: 650,000 Americans are homeless on a typical night.

Since 1979, The Lord’s Place has been finding solutions and providing services to take more people off the streets and into homes. All are invited to join this profound movement advocating for those who are homeless and raising crucial funds to support them.

COMMUNITY SPONSORS:

Sponsorships are essential to helping The Lord’s Place offset the cost to run the event and continue the programs and services they are providing to the community to break the cycle of homelessness. Sponsorship levels range from $1,500 to $25,000. For a full list of sponsorship opportunities, visit thelordsplace.org/march or call 561-5784928.

Their involvement with Florida Atlantic University and Jon’s involvement at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine Dean’s Advisory Board inspired them to create the White Coats-4-Care initiative to help “dress and equip” the very first class of Medical students.

Bonnie and Jon reached out to me, at the time a City Council member along with Mayor Susan Whelchel. We loved the idea, and embraced it as an exciting opportunity by which to in-

troduce the College of Medicine to the greater Boca Raton community and get the entire City, its businesses and residents behind this transformational addition to the University.

WCFC shone a bright light on the College as it debuted as the first and only medical school in Palm Beach County, a new valued City and community asset, as well as welcoming with open arms the students of the first class.

WC4C was and continues to be a “warm and welcoming” opportunity for all those involved as we embrace the students and show them how much they mean to our community and our future of healthcare.

We wanted the students to feel appreciated, and a part of something great. WC4C beamed a bright light on the University, the Doctors on staff, the depth of appreciation of generosity to the legacy of the Schmidt family for their vision to strengthen the threelegged stool of Boca Raton: FAU, Boca Raton Regional Hospital and The Boca Raton Resort & Club.

The energy, the excitement and desire to grow this event was so evident that I not only wanted to buy one coat, but also to become a true partner with these young future doctors by investing in their future. The scholarship initiative has become a hallowed tradition in this community for 14 years, critical to the future of medicine as well as a cel-

ebration of students, their families, faculty, the city and beyond. It has become a part of me and what I want my life to always be about. Education, embracing the future and transforming lives.

The impact the committee has had on the WCFC grows, expands and creates a resonating sense of true love, and unified dedication and commitment to the success of the event. Out of the meetings have grown friendships with one another, involvement with students as they move through each year of their studies. Each year, the committee shares new ideas and opportunities to make each year better and more successful than the previous one.

The committee collaborates on ways in which to raise the bar for donor engagement and contributions through various levels of donation levels with related benefits and recognition. A few years ago the idea of the White Coat Society was an outcome of the committee and I committed along with my husband Tom, immediately signed up. This is just one example of how engaged the committee is in the evolution of WCFC event and expanding the financial success.

I see my life as a Legacy. Through my faith and belief from childhood, believing in Jesus Christ, my commitment to honoring my parents before me that taught me my faith, beliefs, my actions and my journey all shape my legacy. By setting up my endowment, I have a

chance to impact so much more than I can do with one life. It will drive great generational impact because these students are the first recipients of the investment and all the lives they touch, the knowledge and legacy they will leave means so much to me. I know that I will have made a difference. I hope that others, friends, family, members of the community, alumni and anyone that is touched by my decision to give to the Endowment fund for the benefit of scholarships for the Schmidt College of Medicine students will inspire them to contribute as well.

The White Coat ceremony is a very emotional forever memory, for the students, their families, and the greater community. It’s a day the students will forever draw upon throughout their career. It’s the foundation and commitment as they move forward to change their lives with a powerful future devoted to saving lives for decades to come. It’s an incredible journey as the students embark on their own Legacy.

I cry at every ceremony, praying they have faith to know they are so blessed to have chosen this as their dream, reality and legacy. I am so blessed to have this as a part of my journey. I thank my Lord and Savior everyday for my gift of life to witness all he has given me. His love for me has chosen this as a part of my legacy.

Public Art Boca’s New Interactive Map and Community Survey Results

Boca Raton, FL – The City of Boca Raton is excited to announce the launch of Public Art Boca’s new interactive map, showcasing the City’s varied public art installations. This innovative and easy to use tool, designed by the City’s GIS Specialist, allows residents and visitors to tour all the City’s public art in-person or online, and learn more about the artists behind each work. The map’s debut comes as results from a recent Public Art Boca community survey show overwhelming support for more public art in the City.

The City’s current public art installations include murals at Red Reef West, Spanish River Park’s beach tunnels, the Mizner Park Amphitheater stage doors; art sculptures at Wildflower and Silver Palm Parks; and rotating exhibits at the Boca Raton Libraries and Community Centers.

“The new interactive map is a fantastic way for everyone to experience the public art that enriches our City,” said Veronica Hatch, the City’s Public Art Coordinator. “We invite residents

and visitors to discover our current roster of art installations that contribute to the cultural landscape and sense of place in Boca Raton. We look forward to adding many more.”

The establishment of a permanent Public Art Boca program was prioritized by the City Council in 2023 following the installation of several successful and

popular art and mural projects throughout the City. An integral initiative of the new program was a survey conducted earlier this year to gather community feedback on public art in the City, which will help develop a masterplan and policies.

Highlights from the survey include:

82% of respondents believe public art is an important part of the quality of life in Boca Raton

89% consider the purpose of public art is to beautify streets and public spaces

67% consider the purpose of public art is to create welcoming spaces

78% would like to see Landscape Art in the City (paths, planners, fountains

68% would like to see Functional Art in the City (seats, shade, lights, railings)

The City remains committed to ongoing community engagement and participation in development of the Public Art Boca program.

A Brazilian Singer is a Success, Daniela Soledade

Boca Raton, FL – Hello, hello, Florida! Daniela Soledade is an artist from Rio de Janeiro who has earned the respect of critics and audiences in the United States and Europe. With two albums released, “A Moment of You” (2019) and “Pretty World” (2021), and the support of bossa nova masters such as Roberto Menescal and Antonio Adolfo, she has brought the delicacy of Brazilian singing to some of the most important concert venues in the world — Blue Note in New York, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London, Sunset Sunside Paris, Blue Note in Milan, among others.

Praised in publications such as “Downbeat” and “Jazz Times”, Daniela is in a recent cover story of “JAZZIZ” magazine entitled “Rio Rhythm: the heartbeat of Brazilian Music”, alongside names such as Ivan Lins, Bebel Gilberto and Ed Motta. Having lived in Florida since her late teens, Danie-

la Soledade takes her country’s music around the world with special pride and affection. “It’s a mission of the heart to spread our Brazilian music around the world. I have a lot of love for my musical roots and I’m immensely proud to be Brazilian. I feel privileged to be able to represent our music, which is truly unique,” she says reverently.

She has no lack of legitimacy and even ancestry for this mission. Daniela is the granddaughter of Paulo Soledade (1919-1999), a friend and partner of Tom Jobim, author of carnival classics such as the march-rancho “Estão Voltando as Flores” and the march “Zum-Zum”. Her father, Paulinho Soledade, is a respected musician, composer, producer and arranger, with work with Tim Maia, Erasmo Carlos and a long resume on TV Globo’s music programs.

Accustomed to performing in theaters and intimate venues in the US, with a repertoire focused on bossa nova — in a duo with guitarist Nate Najar or in smaller groups —, Daniela has prepared a new format of show with a band, more relaxed and with vibrant dynamics. From the name, “Brazilian Dream” directly targets a specific desire that Brazilians living abroad feel: The desire to dance, sing along and relive the longing for Brazilian music.

The show’s repertoire includes MPB, bossa and samba, including classics that are part of the emotional memory of several generations, such as “Flor de Lis” (Djavan), “Águas de Março” (Jobim), “Palpite” (Vanessa Rangel), and “País Tropical” (Jorge Ben) — songs that encourage the au-

dience to sing along, at the top of their lungs.

Daniela Soledade will debut “Brazilian Dream” on Friday, September 6th, at a venue called Boca Black Box, in Boca Raton, FL.

It will be an incredible opportunity for Americans and Brazilians living in the area to meet up and relive

their longing for Brazilian MPB and, of course, it will also offer attractions for anyone who wants to enjoy Brazilian know-how and have fun at shows.

Friday, September 6th | 8 pm | Tickets: $48
