The founder of Boca’s answer to Hollywood’s Walk of Fame received her own salute, hugs and flowers along with this year’s inductees.
Marta Batmasian, who founded Boca Raton Historical Society’s Walk of Recognition, was recognized with her
husband Jim and their family foundation at the recent 28th ceremony at The Addison. The walk, with embedded names and stars, sits under the statue of Boca’s founding architect Addison Mizner overlooking Federal Highway.
“This will be your legacy…bringing our community together,” said Joyce DeVita, a past society president who’s on the event committee with Marta and the new society president Denise Alman.
The other inductees this year were Cynthia Ann Krebsbach and Lisa N. Mulhall, both Junior Leaguers and involved in a host of nonprofits including Impact 100 Palm Beach County they co-founded. Karen Sweetapple introduced Krebsbach, calling her “a dear friend… who leads by example.” Alman stressed Mulhall’s “hands on volunteerism.”
The hospital’s foundation president Mark Larkin introduced Toby and Leon Cooperman, whose name is on the new Medical Arts Pavilion at Boca Raton Regional Hospital/Baptist Health. “Their support has been transformational,” he said, adding their generosity has had a “ripple effect” in health care, education and the arts. “We’d rather be in the audience,” Cooperman said in a serious thank you with humor. “My philosophy on philanthropy is recycle it back in society to make it a better place.”
Skeets Friedkin, well known for supporting people with disabilities after her late son Shawn founded a nonprofit despite being paralyzed, was honored posthumously on the Wall of Honor. Skeets was also on the board of the Americans with Disabilities’ Boating
and Beach Bash. Her family and daughter-in-law Lisa Friedkin said later that she will be sorely missed. “She agreed with Mr. Cooperman and fought vigorously to leave the place better than when she arrived,” she said.
Among the packed reception were former Walk of Recognition inductees including Rita Thrasher, Dick Reed, Terry Fedele and Holli Rockwell Trubinsky.
“This is my favorite event of the whole year,” the society’s executive director Mary Csar said to open the festivities.
ABC 25WPBF News weekend anchor and reporter Jade Jarvis reprised her role as emcee.

Call it a double header. Boca Raton Bowl college football matchup executive director Doug Mosley and Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer each brought their A games to the monthly Federation of Boca Raton Homeowners Associations gathering.
Setting the Coach Howard Schnellenberger Championship Trophy with the Boca Raton Bowl logo on the front table, Mosley predicted a possibly earlier than usual timing to announce the two teams for the 11th annual game Dec. 18 using FAU Stadium and its Schnellenberger field as the venue. Once the teams are announced, no later than Sunday Mosley added later, tickets for the game will go on sale right away at https://bocaratonbowl.com/ The public’s invited to all the pre-game festivities, starting with the teams arrival on Dec. 14 at hotels in Boca and West Palm Beach, and especially the beach party at Lake Worth Beach Pier, he noted.
“I’m glad to be the opening act for our esteemed mayor,” he said, turning the program over to Singer for a comprehensive update.
Singer called the Boca Raton Bowl, an ESPN Events college bowl game televised on ESPN, “a moment for our city to shine.”
“Boca retains its small town charm,” despite growing to more than 100,00 residents, Singer said. Narrating a PowerPoint, the mayor talked about future plans for more transit-oriented development, citing the new free or low-cost BocaConnect circuit shuttle downtown. The city is now using AI in a pilot program on traffic lights timing, he said. Focusing on walk and bike-ability, Boca just received a $4 million grant to finish the Complete Streets redesign downtown by 2026. https://myboca. us/2435/Complete-Streets
Plans to celebrate Boca’s Centennial next year include concerts and other major events, including a 100th anniversary of the city’s charter on May 26. A headliner hasn’t been announced yet, he noted. Citing ramped up plans for a new government campus, “we have two offers for a public-private partnership. This could be Mizner Park 2.0. We want to hear your ideas,” he said.
The city is about to announce kayak rentals, after completing a major upgrade and renovation to James A. Rutherford Park, one of 49 parks in the city. He praised the view from the new Jacob’s Outlook observation tower at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, and plans for the all-inclusive playground in Patch Reef Park. “We can get a lot of things done,” he said.

Palm Beach, FL – The November 8th, Clinics Can Help Cribs for Kids Luncheon was a rousing success, helping the organization to raise just under $100,000 to provide safe sleeping environments for Palm Beach County’s most precious residents. The event, which took place at The Sailfish Club in Palm Beach, was dedicated to promoting equality and access for all while raising vital funding to prevent the occurrence of S.I.D.S.
“When we hear the staggering number of 2,000 deaths each year due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) we know, at our core, that this is unacceptable,” shares Clinics Can Help CEO Owen O’Neill. “A safe sleeping environment is the very simple answer to reducing this number and we’ve made it a part of our mission to step in to help those in need.”
The event not only featured a magical luncheon but an exclusive shopping experience prior to sitting for attendees to shop one-of-a-kind goods, exotic offerings and an incredible silent auction.
Once seated, emcee Jay Cashmere welcomed guests before welcoming US Representative Lois Frankel who shared a bit about the work she is doing to create access. The remarkable Nancy Brinker served as keynote speaker, who ignited and inspired the room through talk of her work, the impact and movement she created, and how her work aligns with the mission and work of
Clinics Can Help in bringing equality in healthcare to all regardless of their situation. Brinker encouraged guests to do their part and to do what they can to enact change for the betterment of friends and neighbors in need.
The hundreds of thousands of dollars raised through the event will stay local and help the organization not
only provide cribs but support the organization’s work. To date, Clinics Can Help has aided more than 26,000 children and adults with an astonishing $14,000,000 worth of medical equipment and life-saving supplies. The organization works to increase access to health equity leading to bright futures.

A vital resource in Palm Beach County and throughout Southeast Florida for families in search of medical equipment such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, nebulizers, and more, CCH provides access to critical equipment for thousands of children and adults who cannot afford it. The only organization of its kind in Florida and one of only four in the U.S. that provides a vast and diverse array of equipment, CCH makes a difference through a simple process of organized recycling. “We have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations. We have refused to listen to your servants the prophets, who spoke on your authority to our kings and princes and ancestors and to all the people of the land.”Daniel 9:5-6 (NLT)
In the last few devotionals, we’ve looked at how to pray during a crisis. Daniel shows us six key principles during his prayer in Daniel 9. The first five of these principles are:
Let God speak to us before we speak to him.
Focus our attention on God and seek him.
Express our desires with passion. Demonstrate our seriousness through fasting.
Thank God for his love and promises.
Finally, we need to humbly confess our sin.
God won’t listen to prideful complaining, but he will listen to humble confession. God responds to humility. He already knows every foolish thing you’ve ever done in your life, but he still wants you to confess your sin.
How does God respond when you humbly admit you blew it? He responds with forgiveness, mercy, and grace.
Confessing simply means agreeing with God about your sin. You tell God he is right—what you did was sin. You don’t make excuses. You don’t call it a mistake. You admit that you were wrong.
Get specific with your confession like Daniel did in Daniel 9:5-6:“We have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations. We have refused to listen to your servants the prophets, who spoke on your authority to our kings and princes and ancestors and to all the people of the land” (NLT).
Daniel didn’t end there, either. His confession went on for another 10 verses as he painstakingly described his sin.
He agreed with God that the Israelites had brought disgrace and shame on themselves, been unfaithful to God, paid no attention to what the Lord had told them, and been oblivious to God’s warnings.
That’s pretty specific.
Daniel’s prayer helps us understand how our unconfessed sin creates distance between God and us—and it’s a powerful reminder of how God answers our prayers as we agree with him about our sin. He is always faithful to forgive us when we come to him with a humble heart.
Why do we often struggle to be honest with God about our sin, even when he already knows everything we’ve ever done?
How have you seen others undermine their faith by refusing to admit their sin? Has this happened in your own life?
If you haven’t already done this today, take time now to talk to God and confess your sins to him.
No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been . . .
. . . you’ve got a place in God’s forever family ready and waiting for you. The invitation is wide open. Just believe and receive.
Trust in God’s character and the grace he extends. Confess your sins and ask God to forgive you. Claim the promise of Jesus, that salvation is free and open to anyone who turns from
DOUGLAS HEIZER
their sins and agrees to follow him as their Lord and Savior. Humbly ask God to accept you into his forever family.
Are you ready? Then start your journey by praying this simple prayer: “Dear God, I know when I die, I’m going to give an account of my life to you. I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins and toward you.
“Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so that I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place.
“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I humbly ask you to save me. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
If you just prayed to accept Jesus, please email me at Rick@PastorRick. com and let me know. I’d like to send you some free materials to help you start your journey with Jesus.

Boca Raton, FL – The Boca Raton Airport Authority has issued a community notice regarding anticipated increases in air traffic at the Boca Raton Airport (BCT) due to presidential visits to the Palm Beach area. During these visits, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) enforces Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) centered around Mar-a-Lago, which impacts air operations at Palm Beach International Airport (PBI). As a result, flights may be diverted to nearby airports, including BCT.
The expected impacts of these diversions include:
Temporary increases in flight activity at Boca Raton Airport.
Intermittent noise level changes in
surrounding areas.
Flight activity and noise levels that coincide with presidential visits.
The airport authority anticipates these changes will persist for the next four years, depending on the frequency of visits. While these adjustments may affect neighboring communities, the authority remains committed to minimizing disruptions and maintaining communication.
For questions or further information, residents are encouraged to contact the Boca Raton Airport Authority at (561) 391-2202 or via email at airportauthority@bocaairport.com. Additional details about noise abatement efforts can be found at bocaairport.com/ noise-abatement.

Want to brighten the holiday season for the students in your life? Consider gifts that will ease the transition into the spring semester. Here are few to consider:
1. Support a musical journey: With 44 mini keys, the SA-81 from Casio is a great keyboard for both first-time players just embarking on their musical education and accomplished instrumentalists. A built-in metronome makes practice sessions a breeze, and features such as scale tuning, octave shift and transpose help introduce musical concepts. One-hundred high-quality built-in tones covering a range of instruments, including piano, wind, percussion and acoustic instruments, along with 50 rhythm patterns in a variety of genres like pop, ballad, dance, and more, offer budding musicians a chance to experiment and express themselves creatively right away. All housed in a compact frame, it’s a great choice for young students, students on-the-go, and dorm dwellers.
2. Lighten their load: If you remember lugging around heavy textbooks
during your own student days, consider lightening the load of your gift recipient with a high-quality e-reader. Look for a model with note-taking features, adjustable lighting to protect eyes and portability. A color screen is also a good idea, as it will make diagrams and charts easier to examine if your student will be reading textbooks on the device.
3. Bring the world of STEM within
reach: With the advanced features of a next-generation graphing calculator, the fx-CG50 PRIZM can support students through middle school, high school and into college. With Natural Textbook Display and an intuitive icon menu, students will find the calculator incredibly easy to use. Its 3D graphing and improved catalog functions allow for greater engagement and real-life application in the mathematics classroom, and a host of
compatible resources available at casioeducation.com can set them up for success. Because the model is approved for the SAT, PSAT, ACT and AP tests, your gift will be helping them prepare for a bright future.
4. Help them keep time: Is your student an athlete? Whether they run track, do swim team or tackle contact sports head-on, a durable, water-resistant sports watch can help them track their speed and progress throughout the season.
5. Expand their world: While many people today get their news by rapidly scanning headlines on apps, a deeper dive can improve literacy, expand knowledge and foster an understanding of the world. Consider gifting your student a subscription to a high-quality newspaper or news magazine.
This holiday season, give students thoughtful gifts that will ease their life and make their schoolwork and extracurriculars more enjoyable.
Boca Raton, FL – During the holiday season many of us feel a mix of excitement and stress. The holidays can be a wonderful time for connection and celebration, but they can also bring unique pressures that impact our emotional and mental well-being. From financial strain to family expectations, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all that comes with this time of year.
The Children’s Healing Institute, a Palm Beach County organization that focuses on strengthening families dealing with crises, offers these simple tips to help parents and children manage holiday stress so everyone can focus on enjoying a peaceful, meaningful season together.
The holidays don’t have to be perfect! Focus on what really matters and give yourself permission to let go of perfection. When it comes to gift requests from children, give definitive responses. A “maybe” is still considered a “yes” for our little ones, so talk to them with clear, direct answers to expectations with gift-giving this holiday season. Depending on the type of gift requested, set realistic expectations for yourself on your ability to afford the gift for the child. Consider creative gift-giving ideas, such as DIY presents or experiences, to alleviate financial strain. Buying one gift for the entire family to enjoy can also be a helpful alternative to gifts that are out of budget. You can also set up a gift fund
for 2025. This can be organized a year in advance so that there is enough time to save up for that special gift.
Children see holiday movies, social media posts, and hear friends’ stories, which can lead to comparing and feeling disappointed if their experience doesn’t seem “perfect.” A reminder that every family’s holiday looks different can help manage these expectations. Encourage children to express their emotions on their disappointment through describing how they are feeling. They can draw, sing, or verbally tell you. Feelings of disappointment is connected to unmet expectations and parents can set realistic expectations early on to avoid let downs.
Sometimes the holidays bring together family members who may not always get along, which can create a tense environment. Communicate openly with loved ones. Clear conversations about plans, roles, and boundaries can really help reduce misunderstandings and tension. Encourage open conversations about prioritizing commitments and respectfully declining additional obligations that could overwhelm the family. Reinforce that saying “no” can sometimes be a positive choice. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, so try to keep up with routines that help you stay grounded—like exercise, meditation, or simply getting enough sleep. Encouraging breaks for relaxation and self-care activities benefits everyone’s mental well-being during this busy period.
For some, the holidays can stir up difficult feelings. Reach out to a therapist or a supportive friend if you need help working through these emotions. For children dealing with a recent loss or parents who are separated, the holidays can magnify feelings of grief and separation anxiety. Be sensitive to their emotions and let them know it’s okay to feel a mix of things during this season. This is a great time to honor old traditions or start new ones. Doing something meaningful, even if it’s simple, can create lasting memories and deepen family bonds.

A ribbon-cutting a week in advance signaled the official opening for patients at 7 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 10 at Baptist Health’s free-standing emergency care in West Boca.
Locals have been watching the 16,800-square-foot facility with 18 exam rooms, a triage area, lab, ultrasound, radiology and a medicine dispenser go up on the northwest corner of the Mission Bay complex at Glades Road and U.S. 441. Now it’s officially here. “We’re hoping we’re busy,” said the new ER’s director Allison Vandever.
The 24-hour ER was built to address the medical needs in the western communities and will operate as a department of Boca Raton Regional Hospital in east Boca. “It’s really important to extend access to care. Many emergencies are time sensitive and the better treatment, the better the outcome,” Vandever said.
Patients who call 911 may have a choice to go to the new ER or the hospital, said Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Emergency Medical Services Chief Phillip Olavarria, who attended the Dec. 4 ribbon cutting. Callers with basic life support issues will have that option, and “higher levels will go straight to the
hospital,” he said. Walk-ins at the new ER could include women who don’t realize chest pains could mean a more serious heart attack or stroke, Vandever said in an interview.
Having a pharmacy on-site means prescriptions can be filled without going to another pharmacy first, Nancy Batista-Rodriguez, CEO of Baptist Outpatient Services, said at the ribbon cutting. The medicine dispenser will include both prescription and over-thecounter medicines from $5 to $20, Vandever added. “We want to make this as hassle-free as possible.” Baptist Health has an urgent care facility at Lyons and Glades roads for medical issues that are “lower acuity,” she said.
The ribbon-cutting attracted a large crowd of Baptist Health and Boca Raton Regional Hospital doctors, administrators and board members.
