TATA motors launches the cheapest car in the world “TATA Nano� tagged at Rs.1 lakh without taxes. The car was unveiled at Pragati maidan in New Delhi in mid of much funfare.

Virgin Galactic has released the final design of the launch system that will take farepaying passengers into space. It is based on the X-Prize-winning SpaceShipOne concept - a rocket ship that is lifted initially by a carrier plane before blasting skywards. 17 FEB ::On 17th February Kosovo declared it's independence from Serbia. Kosovo's parliament unanimously endorsed the declaration of independence from Serbia. Germany was the first country to recognize Kosovo asa separate nation and till 5th Dec 52 nations have recognized kosovo's independence.

A Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 becomes the first commercial aircraft to make a flight powered by biofuel flying between Heathrow and Amsterdam. The biofuel used was a 20 percent biofuel mix of coconut and babassu oil.

HP Labs announces the creation of the memristor, at times described as the fourth basic electronic element. The memristor was first predicted in 1971 by Leon Chua. The discovery may have a tremendous impact on computing and electronics, joining the other basic electronic elements the resistor, capacitor, and inductor. Memristor theory was formulated and named by Leon Chua in a 1971 paper. Chua strongly believed that a fourth device existed to provide conceptual symmetry with the resistor, inductor, and capacitor.

The government spent $441 billion dollars on relief and reconstruction efforts.
