Sie bildet, nach eigener Aussage des Künstlers, seinen Weg zurück zu einer direkten, physischen Verbindung zum Produktionsprozess ab, den er in den Tonskulpturen gefunden hat.2 Die Arbeiten Erwin Wurms nehmen in der zeitgenössischen Kunst eine besondere Stellung ein. Sie sind scheinbar leicht zugänglich und werfen zugleich existenzielle Fragen auf. Bereits seit Ende der 1980er Jahre lotet Wurm die Grenzen zwischen Skulptur, Objekt und Performance aus. Handlungen können in seinen Arbeiten ebenso zur Skulptur werden wie Gedanken oder Empfindungen. Besucher*innen sind dabei häufig selbst Teil des Kunstwerks. Zentraler Bezugspunkt der Werke ist der menschliche Körper. Wurm macht ihn zum künstlerischen Mate-
Dissolution is the title Erwin Wurm has given to a workgroup he started on in 2018. According to the artist, it represents his journey back to a direct, physical bonding with the production process that he has discovered in clay sculpture.2 Erwin Wurm’s works occupy a special place in contemporary art. They appear to be easily accessible, while they pose existential questions. Wurm was already exploring the boundaries between sculpture, object, and performance at the end of the eighties. In his works, deeds can become sculpture just as much as can thoughts or feelings—and museum visitors frequently find themselves a part of the artwork. His works’ central point of reference is the human body; Wurm turns 1
