Die jaarlikse groot derby-stryd tussen Paulus Joubert Sekondêr en Hoërskool Noorder-Paarl het Saterdag op Faurestraat voor duisende toeskouers plaasgevind. Hierdie jaar was dit Paulus se beurt om as wenners van die veld te stap met hul span wat 27-23 geseëvier het. Hier is van die toeskouers by die o. 19A-rugbywedstryd. Die laaste derby’s vind hierdie naweek plaas met Hoër Landbouskool Boland, Hoërskool Labori en Hoërskool Hugenote wat hul onderskeie teenstanders aanpak.

Another woman raped in Mbekweni A 19-year-old woman from Mbekweni was raped after having supper with her alleged rapist.

According to Mbekweni Police spokesperson, sergeant Ncebe Vanqa, the victim was busy hanging up washing in her backyard at about 16:00 on Saturday afternoon when the suspect came and asked her to go with him to buy meat at a nearby shop in Mbekweni.

Vier verdagtes wat in die besit van die vermoedelik gesteelde goedere gevind is, het op Woensdag 13 Augustus in die Paarl-landdroshof verskyn. ’n Man van Kanariestraat, Paarl-Oos, het ook vrywillig hierdie geel fiets, wat een van die talle is wat verlede jaar aan skoolkinders by verskeie skole oorhandig is, aan die polisie terug besorg omdat hy onwettig op die fiets gery het. Die polisie is dringend opsoek na die eienaars van die gesteelde goedere.

“When they finished eating the suspect grabbed her and forced himself on her. She tried to cry (for help) but the suspect beat her and continued to rape her,” he said.

A charge of rape was opened at Mbekweni Police.

The suspect has not yet been arrested.

The FCS Unit is investigating the matter.

Men arrested for illegally selling alcohol Two people have been arrested and will appear in court soon, after allegedly dealing in alcohol illegally.

During an operation in Mbekweni on Saturday, a 34-year-old man was arrested at a house in Nederpark informal settlement after being found in possession of almost 43 F of alcohol.

In another operation later that after-

noon, a 41-year-old man was arrested at a premises in White City, Mbekweni, after police executed a search warrant and the owner failed to produce a liquor license for the approximately 45 F of alcohol found on the premises. The alcohol was confiscated.

Both men were later released on a warning to appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on 26 September.

Motoris tref seuntjie van nege Die Paarl-Oos-polisie ondersoek ’n klag van roekelose en nalatige bestuur, nadat ’n negejarige seuntjie kopbeserings opgedoen het toe hy deur ’n motor getref is.

Die ongeluk het hom verlede Vrydag (15 Augustus) in Van der Stelstraat, PaarlOos, afgespeel.

Na bewering het die seuntjie oor die straat geloop toe hy deur die aankomende motor getref is.

Volgens Paarl-Oos-polisiewoordvoerder, lt. Diana Linee, het die polisiebeampte, wat op patrolliediens was, gesien hoe mense by ’n voetoorgang saamdrom.

“Dit is toe dat die beampte verder ondersoek instel en sien hoe die seuntjie, wat deur ’n Toyota getref is, op die grond lê,” vertel Linee. Enigiemand met inligting kan die polisiekantoor by 021 877 5900 bel.

Boewe ná inbraak vasgetrek Twee booswigte is die naweek in hul spore gestuit ná hulle by ’n sakeperseel tussen Paarl en Mbekweni ingebreek het.

Hulle het ’n skootrekenaar en twee vuurwapens tydens die inbraak gebuit, maar is kort daarna deur lede van die polisie se honde-eenheid en sekuriteitswagte van AC Rottweiler vasgetrek.

Die gesteelde goedere is teruggevind.

Die Paarl-Oos-polisie het die afgelope week verskeie operasies uitgevoer om die misdaadsyfers te laat daal.

Altesaam 90 inhegtenisnemings is deur die polisie gedoen. Verskeie verdagtes is vir of dronkbestuur, dwelms, moord, gesinsgeweld, asook vir die besit van gesteelde eiendom in hegtenis geneem Verdagtes het reeds in die Paarl-landdroshof verskyn. Volgens lt. Diana Linee, polisiewoordvoerder, ontvang die polisie ook verskeie klagtes van kinders wat dwelms voor hul skool toe gaan gebruik. “Ouers moet dringend vir Kindersorg SA Paarl, Badisa kontak vir hulp,” sê Linee. Agri Het Talent-projek se wenners beloon Tydens ’n spoggeleentheid het die finaliste in die Agri Het Talent-kompetisie voor ’n uitgesoekte beoordelingspaneel, om die finale wenner te bepaal, opgetree by Kronenberg tussen Paarl en Wellington.

Andriette Norman het die vermaak verskaf en ook ’n voorbeeld gestel van hoe so ’n geleentheid benut kan word as mens jou talente gebruik.

Hortgro, ’n bedryfsorganisasie wat verantwoordelik is vir ’n reeks bedryfsfunksies, spits hom ook daarop toe om geleenthede te skep om die lewensomstandighede van werkers te verbeter. Daar is dus besluit om die talente van werkers op plase te ontwikkel en ’n geleentheid te skep waar hulle kan optree, hul talente kan deel met ander en moontlik nog hierdeur ook ’n loopbaan opbou.

Met die Agri Isipho- en Agri Het Talent-pro-

jek wil Hortgro ’n platform skep vir landbou, waar talentvolle persone hulle talente kan bekendstel en vertoon.

Die Agri het Talent-projek is ’n sosiaalmaatskaplike ontwikkelingsprojek, wat hierdie jaar, in sy eerste fase, gefokus is op sangtalent en terselfdertyd die selfvertroue en menswaardigheid van sy deelnemers wil ontwikkel.

Hortgro wil met hierdie projek landbouwerkers aanmoedig om hul talente verder te ontwikkel en te verfyn om na afloop van die kompetisies hulle in staat te stel om ’n groter bydrae in hul gesinne en gemeenskappe te maak, omdat hulle self bemagtig is met selfwaarde en kennis. Die Agri Het Talent-kompetisie wil in die jare wat kom deure oopmaak vir mense in die landboubedryf en hierdie ’n jaarlikse geleentheid maak waarna landbouwerkers sal uitsien en met oorgawe sal aangryp.

Wees paraat met jou verkeersboetes Vir die finansiële boekjaar 2013/2014 beloop uitstaande verkeersboetes vir die Drakenstein-gebied meer as R3 miljoen. In hierdie tydperk is altesame 9 595 kennisgewings aan verkeersoortreders uitgeskryf. En die hoogste eenmalige boete wat uitgereik is beloop R2 000.

Die publiek word gewaarsku dat in die geval dat hul hierdie boetes ignoreer en ’n lasbrief word aan hulle uitgereik, staar hulle die werklike gevaar in die gesig dat hulle voertuiglisensies nie hernu sal word nie.

Wanneer ’n verkeersoortreding gepleeg word, word ’n dagvaardiging deur ’n verkeersbeampte uitgereik. Die dagvaardiging bevat die naam en besonderhede van die oortreder, die tipe oortreding asook die tyd en plek wat ’n oortreding plaasgevind het. Die dagvaardiging bevat ook ’n boete en die datum waarteen die boete betaal moet word en ’n hofdatum.

Die betaaldatum en die hofdatum is ongeveer twee weke uitmekaar uit.

Die oortreder het die keuse om die boete te betaal of op die aangeduide datum in die hof te verskyn om sy of haar saak te stel.

Indien die oortreder nie die boete betaal nie moet hy in die hof verskyn. Indien die oortreder nie in die hof verskyn nie, maak hy of sy

hulself skuldig aan minagting van die hof en word ’n lasbrief uitgereik en gemagtig deur ’n Landdros. ’n Addisionele boete van R300 word gehef vir minagting van die hof.

Wanneer ’n lasbrief gemagtig is, word dit dan op die NAVIS-stelsel geplaas, wat ’n oortreder sal verhoed om sy lisensie te hernu indien die boetes nie betaal word nie.

“Binnekort gaan daar ook ’n nota gemaak word op die eNatis-stelsel van boetes waaraan ’n lasbrief gekoppel is,” het burgemeester Gesie van Deventer gesê.

“Dit sal beteken dat mense nie hulle voertuiglisensie sal kan hernu indien hul boetes nie betaal word nie.”

Hierdie lasbrief is geldig vir 24 maande en kan op enige tyd uitgevoer word deur middel van ’n inhegtenisneming. Indien ’n dagvaardiging oorgaan in ’n lasbrief, maak die oortreder hom/haar skuldig aan ’n kriminele oortreding. “Die meeste van die verkeersoortredingstelsels is aan mekaar verbind. Dit beteken dat wanneer oortreders waaraan ’n uitstaande lasbrief gekoppel is, afgetrek word by ’n padblokkade, in hegtenis geneem kan word.

Padverbruikers moet kennis neem dat op 1 Augustus 2014, verkeersboetes in die WesKaap verhoog is,” het Van Deventer gesê.

Inwoners van Wellington het verlede Saterdag hul stemme laat hoor teen wat hulle noem “die onstuitbare handel en misbruik van dwelms in dié gebied, veral die van tik”. Onder leiding van Shafiek Mouton, het die optog by Shah’s Corner begin waar sowat 200 bekommerde inwoners saamgedrom het. Jy die entrepreneur: Wees betrokke DAVID MALHERBE Om ’n suksesvolle onderneming te hê, moet jy fisiek daarby betrokke wees.

Jy moet elke dag saam met jou werkers daar wees, het Eleanor Swart, eienaar van Alona Fresh Produce in Botrivier, gesê nadat sy as die beste vroue-entrepreneur in die kleinboer-kategorie aangewys is, berig Samantha van den Berg in Die Burger.

Verlede week het ek ’n strategiese beplanningsessie vir ’n familiebesigheid in die Noord-Kaap aangebied.

Tydens ’n koffie-breek gesels ek met die eienaar se seun wat na my mening, moontlik eendag sy Pa se besigheid kan oorneem. Hy reken toe ’n paar goeie bestuurders behoort hom in

staat te stel om net so af en toe sy gesig by die besigheid te wys sodat hy dan meer tyd op die gholfbaan sou kon deurbring.

My reaksie was dat dit nie ’n goeie idee is nie. Geen werknemer of bestuurder het dieselfde belang by die besigheid as die eienaar self nie.

Twee weke gelede vertel ’n ander konsultant my dat hy vir ’n ekstra inkomste ook ’n motorwasbesigheid het wat deur ’n bestuurder bedryf word. Hy noem toe dat hy op ’n dag begin agterdogtig raak het oor die aantal motors wat daagliks gewas word en toe kameras laat installeer het.

Nadat hy ’n klompie dae se videomateriaal deurgewerk het, wys dit toe dat daar gemiddeld 6 tot 8 motors per dag meer gedoen word as wat die bestuurder aanteken. Die spreek-

woord, “Ver van jou goed, naby jou skade” is inderdaad waar.

Dit is ongelukkig so dat daar altyd mense is wat dink hulle kan ’n klomp geld uit ’n besigheid maak, sonder om self veel te doen. Mense wat so dink, leef in ’n droomwêreld en weet beslis nie watter harde werk dit verg om ’n suksesvolle entrepreneur te wees nie. ’n Bestuurder hou ’n besigheid se stelsels in stand en sien toe dat alles reg verloop. Die rol van die eienaar of entrepreneur is leierskap.

Dit is sy/haar plig om nuwe projekte aan te pak en die besigheid te laat groei.

Daar is sekere verantwoordelikhede wat ’n besigheidseienaar nie kan delegeer nie. Attorneys to draft wills for free It has become tradition over the past few years that members of the public will be able to have a basic will drafted by an attorney free of charge as part of National Wills Week form 15 to 19 September.

Law firms throughout the country are participating in the National Wills Week project.

“By ensuring that you have a valid will, you as the testator, can protect the interests of your loved ones and ensure that there is no delay in settling your estate after your death,” Law Society of South Africa (LSSA) co-chairpersons, Ettienne Barnard and Max Boqwana, said in a statement.

“It also ensures that your executor will act according to your wishes as set out in your will.”

A valid will allows to state who should inherit assets and property, to appoint an executor of choice and also a guardian for minor children.

Persons who have been recently divorced or widowed, or those who are cohabitating with their partners, should consider having a will drafted. If you have been cohabitating with your partner, it is advisable to have a will to ensure that there are not competing claims on your estate.

Similarly, unmarried persons, particular-

ly those who may have a number of people that depend on them financially should ensure they have a will in place, as several people could make a claim on their estates.

During Wills Week, attorneys participating in the initiative will display posters with their contact details so the public can make appointments with attorneys in their area.

A practising attorney has the necessary knowledge and expertise to ensure that a will is valid by complying with all the legal requirements in the Wills Act and also that it complies with your wishes.

An attorney can also give advice regarding any problem which may arise with a will and assist your executor.

Often a will is not valid because the person who drafts it does not have the necessary legal knowledge to ensure that the all the legal requirements of the Wills Act are met.

These include the fact that the will must be in writing, it must be signed by the testator in the presence of at least two competent witnesses, and also signed by the witnesses.

Dying without leaving a valid will, the assets will be distributed according to the provisions of the Intestate Succession Act. These provisions are generally fair and ensure that the possessions are transferred to the spouse and children, siblings, parents and if required to the extended family in terms of degrees of relationships.

Problems may arise if one dies without leaving a will such as assets may not be left to the person of choice or there could be extra and unnecessary costs to name a few.

Labori Hoërskool (voormalige Paarl Handelskool) het onlangs hul 25ste bestaansjaar gevier. Op stigtingsdag was onderwysers van die skool uitgevat in 1920’s kleredrag.

WOMEN: Monte Christo Miqlat hosted their MCM Women’s Day with the help of various sponsors on Friday 15 August. They invited underprivileged, abused, hurt and women who have lost faith in life in an attempt to bring back their smiles and make them feel special.

Rules for electrical safety To play it safe around your home, just remember the rules for using electricity the right way.

1. Don’t plug a bunch of stuff into one outlet or extension cord. It could damage the electrical system in your house or even cause a fire.

2. Make sure all electric cords are tucked away, neat and tidy. Pets might chew on electrical cords, and people might trip and fall.

3. Don’t ever climb the fence around an electrical substation. If a ball or pet gets inside the fence, ask a grown-up to call an electrical company – they’ll come and get it out for you.

4. Don’t yank an electrical cord from the wall.

Pulling on a cord can damage the appliance, the plug or the outlet.

5. Fly your kite far away from power lines

In a study conducted three years ago by the University of KwaZulu-Natal, the average cost of each domestic violence incident was R4 864,64 compared with an average monthly income of R3 393,28 resulting in a household deficit of R1 471,36.

Aside from the massive strain, caused by absenteeism from work, Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD), depression or dissociation, on an industry’s workforce, the reliance on subsidised public health systems and services becomes even greater.

“Business can no longer sit back and do nothing about an issue that not only affects civil society, but our economy as well. We have to do more,” says George Grieve, managing director of Vital Health Foods, the company that has leveraged its brand to focus on issues related to women and child abuse.

Celebrating their first birthday this week, the Vital Foundation has achieved a target of raising in excess of R3,9 million, largely because of the overwhelming support they have received from the public following the initial R1 makes a difference campaign in August last year. It is funded entirely by consumers of Vital supplements; for every Vital supplement pack sold, R1 is donated to the Vital Founda-

tion.

“The World Health Organisation (WHO) classifies health as a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, so the imperative is on us as a business, and again business as a whole, to do what we can for people on a mental and social level too,” comments Grieve.

With the rate of domestic violence in South Africa being among the highest in the world, resulting in a workforce shaken by chronic fatigue; PTSD, depression, sexually transmitted infections, loss of confidence as well as anxiety and stress aside from soaring medical costs and a drain on our public health system the Vital Foundation opens for funding biannually and pays out on a monthly basis to registered organisations focusing on issues related to protection, prosecution and prevention of women and child abuse.

Various organisations have already benefited from the first cycle of funding.

“Our policy is such that after organisations are invited to apply for funding, during two funding application cycles a year, these applications are then presented to the board of trustees for funding allocation,” comments Andrea du Plessis, spokesperson of the Vital Foundation.

The New Orleans Secondary school drummies competed in the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association on Saturday 16 August at Wellington Senior Secondary school, where they won the following categories; High school non-prop, high school flag group, high school small drill leader and sub-leader overall group.

Bursaries for film and video students

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) invites prospective students to apply for its bursary scheme. The deadline for applications is 29 August at 12:00.

The NFVF provides funding to students in financial need to pursue film and television related studies at all accredited tertiary institutions in South Africa.

Criteria for application for the student: The student must: ) Have already been selected at an institution that offers formal qualifications such as a diploma

or degree. ) Be able to demonstrate financial need. ) Possess a good academic record. ) Motivate in detail why they qualify to receive a bursary. ) Submit a correctly completed application form and attach all required documents as per the application form. ) Be a South African citizen, or have permanent residency or have refugee status.

Met ’n seisoen wat wipplank gery het vir die Tiere kon hulle Saterdag daarin slaag om ’n bonuspunt te kry teen Collegians, wat hulle tans in 13de plek plaas.

Dit was ’n moeilike seisoen met beserings en die spanne sal hard moet werk om te verseker dat hulle Saterdag op Faure teen Brackenfell met ’n bonuspunt wen om veilig te wees.

Met die ervaring van Barry (Skip) Williams, Francois (Faf) Julies, Luantion (Bantam) Abelse – om net ’n paar te noem – is Young Peoples ’n goeie span wat hou van hardlooprugby en sal hulle definitief Saterdag hulle stoomrollers soos Cedric (Delight) Williams, John (Bies) Jantjies en Carlo Jacobs moet aanskakel en sorg dat die bal wyd oor die veld gedra word om te voorkom dat Brackenfell al die bal-besit wen. Boland Shore Angling Association hosts golf day The Boland Shore Angling Association will be hosting a golf day on 29 August at the Kuilsriver Golf Club. The event will be held in aid of raising money for their teams to participate in the interprovincial shore angling competition in 2015.

For those who will not be entering a golf team, donations of either four identical prizes or of cash can be made, or the supplying of refreshments on the course or to advertise on the course for a nominal fee will be allowed.
