Participants of the Paarl Elderly Service Centre are here doing their march at the opening ceremony of the Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Golden Games which took place on Wednesday at Boland Stadium’s track in Worcester. About 1 400 elderly people from right across the Boland region participated in this sporting event. The fun-day saw them take part in walking and running events, soccer ball dribbling and contests in throwing rugby balls through hoops.

Wellington grondeise vergadering ’n Inligtingsvergadering rakende die tweede fase grondeise sal op Saterdag 26 Julie gehou word om 14:00 in die Iott-saal in Voorstraat, Wellington.

Die doel van die vergadering is om die nuwe prosedure rakende bestaande en nuwe eise te verduidelik.

Nuwe eise is weer oopgestel vanaf 1 Julie en sal vir ’n tydperk van vyf jaar geldig wees.

Skadunette is onlangs by die taxi-staanplek in die Bergrivier Boulevard opgerig om beskerming te bied, veral teen die son. Die uitvoerende burgemeester van Drakenstein, Gesie van Deventer, het al verskeie kere met die taxi-eienaars ontmoet in ’n poging om openbare vervoer in Drakenstein te bevorder. Van Deventer het gesê sy is baie tevrede met die positiewe gesindheid van die taxi-eienaars en wil graag die fasiliteite vir die pendelaars verbeter. As gevolg daarvan het sy verlede jaar die provinsiale regering genader en hulp gevra met befondsing. Die resultaat daarvan was dat die munisipaliteit ’n subsidie van sowat R208 000 ontvang het vir opgraderings aan die bestaande taxi-staanplekke in die Boulevard en die Franschhoek-staanplek. Boomplant- en mooimaak-aksies word ook beplan. ’n Oorhoofse meesterplan vir die Geïntegreerde Openbare Vervoerplan word beplan vir die 2014/2015 finansiële jaar en verdere projekte sal dan daarvolgens geïmplementeer word. Urgent call for bone marrow donors What would you do if your child got leukaemia?

Take a moment to put yourself in the position of a mother, or father, whose child has been diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia. What do you do, who do you turn to, and can it be treated adequately in South Africa?

James Read, a 22-month-old boy, is one of many young children in South Africa with leukaemia who can be cured, but requires a bone marrow stem cell transplant.

James was diagnosed with Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukaemia, which is incredibly rare and can only be cured with a transplant.

You could be a match and hold in you, a cure thatcouldgivehimachancetogrowupalongside

his family and friends.

James’s parents, along with the Sunflower Fund, are appealing to all individuals to undergo a quick and easy test to see if they are an eligible donor.

While a bone marrow stem cell transplant may sound like a painful procedure, it is a simple case of donating some of your blood. Blood is taken from your arm, the bone marrow stem cells are separated and collected from the donated blood, and the filtered blood is then returned into your body through the other arm.

To see if you can help give James Read a lifesaving bone marrow stem cell transplant, register with the Sunflower Fund at www.sunflowerfund.org.za or call them on 0800 12 10 82. The necessary registration steps are on the website.

The HJ Legolie AME Church in Wellington did their 67 minutes on Mandela Day by distributing 67 loaves of bread and clothing to three farms in the Wellington area. The bread was kindly donated

by Blue Ribbon.

Once you have registered, you can take part in James’s donor drive, which will take place at Grayston Preparatory in Sandton from 09:00 to 12:00 on Saturday, 26 July 2014. Please note that registration must be completed by 23 July 2014 to ensure you can take part in the first donor drive for James.

The drive will not stop there, though, with further testing days taking place at Heronbridge Church on 3 August 2014, and at Gracepoint Church on 10 August 2014. If you are not in Johannesburg, but would like to see if you are a match, the Sunflower Fund will be able to direct you to your nearest testing centre if you call 0800 121 082. Getting tested to be a match is as simple as donating a small amount of blood.

Currently, there are only 65 000 bone marrow

stem cell donors in SA, and the country is in desperate need of more, not only for James, but for the many potential recipients who cannot find a match. For those of you who cannot donate blood, the Sunflower Fund gladly accepts cash donations to fund testing procedures. The corporate services division of the Drakenstein Municipality volunteered at the Help and Health Feeding Project in Mbekweni on Mandela Day. They donated all the food for the day and municipal employees also donated warm clothes and blankets. The Help and Health Feeding Project was started by Violet Kota in the 1990s.

With the help of volunteers, she makes sure that those in need, especially children, receive a warm meal at least once a day.

Van tyd tot tyd is dit belangrik dat ’n mens bietjie die wêreld in oënskou neem om te bepaal of jou besigheid nog tred hou met veranderinge en vooruitgang wat jou besigheid kan beïnvloed.

Behalweviraldietegnologieseveranderinge, is daar heelwat faktore waarvan enige besigheidspersoon kennis moet neem in sy of haar beplanning vir die afsienbare toekoms.

Eerstens is daar die geweldige arbeidsonrus en al staak die werkers by jou onderneming nie, het ’n staking gewoonlik ’n kettingreaksie wat veroorsaak dat die staking by ander ondernemings van wie jy onderdele of dienste moet verkry, jou besigheid ook benadeel. Het jy planne hoe om die skade van sulke vertragings tot die minimum te beperk?

Verder vra baie werknemerorganisasies deesdae dat daar weggedoen moet word met arbeidsmakelaars. Indien jy wel arbeid gebruik wat via sulke makelaars voorsien word, het jy ’n plan hoe jy te werk sal gaan as dit ’n werklikheid sou word? Watter mense sal jy permanent behou en watter nie? Dit is baie beter om so iets lank vooruit te beplan as om skielik so ’n besluit te moet neem die dag as dit ’n werklikheid word.

Dan is daar die huidige opwaartse neiging van rentekoerse. Het jy al gekyk en beplan vir die effek daarvan op jou inkomste en uitgawes? Verwag jy laer verkope as gevolg daarvan? Is daar die moontlikheid dat jy mense sal moet aflê of is daar dalk nuwe markte wat jy kan ontgin?

Afhangende van die tipe besigheid wat jy bedryf, is daar ander faktore soos die brandstofprys, wisselkoerse, nuwe wetgewing t.o.v. reis en werk in die buiteland, ens. wat ’n invloed kan hê. Laas-

tens is dit belangrik dat ’n mens nie moet dink jy hoef nie aan te pas by nuwe tegnologie nie.

Rekenaars en die internet is lankal nie meer net nuttige tegnologie wat jou werk kan vergemaklik nie. Dit het so ’n integrale deel van enige besigheid geword dat jy beswaarlik daarsonder kan klaarkom.

Selfs skole begin al handboeke vervang met tablet-rekenaars. ward will be discussed. Also in August the CSA umpiring course will be presented by Karl Hurter and Murray Brown at Boland Park. The respective dates for this course are 9/10 and 16/17 August. It is compulsory for all current umpires to attend this refresher course. Anyone interested in becoming an umpire is very welcome. Snacks and lunch will be served on these dates. More information will follow. To get warmed up for the new season we want to host a Picnic Dance in September at Boland Park. These funds will be used to invest in our current, new and upcoming umpires. More details of this function will follow shortly.
