OUR LOCATION

Bond University is located on Australia’s beautiful Gold Coast, which is one of the best places in the world to live and one of the best places in the world to study.
MASTER OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT WHAT IS PROJECT MANAGEMENT?
WHY BOND?
The creation and implementation of new ideas can be defined as ‘projects’ and need to be managed to ensure project stakeholders receive maximum benefit. New ideas may take the form of products, services, policy or other deliverables and may be standalone projects, programs (aligned sets of projects) or portfolios (collections of projects and / or programs). Most importantly, projects can apply to any industry sector or field of endeavour, including but not limited to; building and engineering infrastructure, software development, innovative business models, government-led social change, mining, space exploration, new technological inventions, and natural disaster recovery efforts.
Bond University has many project management courses and pathways. The Master of Project Management (MPM) and Master of Project Management (Professional) degrees are accredited by the Project Management Institute Global Accreditation Center (PMI-GAC), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM).
A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITY Project managers can find work as team leaders within client organisations (public or private sector), within external consultancies, or alternatively they can run their own business. Their job may entail responsibility for specific projects, programs or portfolios, being an expert witness in contract disputes, mentoring and training of others, or solving unique problems that arise in the course of client-led business activities. They can apply their skills on local, national or global projects, as part of co-located or virtual project teams. The Project Management Institute (pmi.org), just one of many industry bodies that govern our discipline, has certified over 750,000 professional project managers worldwide. Project Management is a truly global career.
AIPM also accredit our Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma in Project Management. Courses are largely delivered as intensive subjects requiring attendance on-campus over two blocks of three days, equivalent to about 40 hours of face-to-face instruction for a typical 10 credit point (cp) subject. Domestic students can undertake part-time study while working full-time. Core MPM subjects explore the 10 knowledge areas set out in the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide, Sixth Edition) as well as the five foundational process groups of project initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. MPM also comprises 30 cp of research training, three general elective choices, and no-fee extracurricular (pop-up) activities spread throughout the year. The Master of Project Management can also be completed in one calendar year subject to approval.

MODNPODS Motivated by the desire to provide affordable housing, Bond University alumnus John Christie is transforming the Gold Coast housing market with the introduction of affordable, modular dwellings. ModnPods was established in 2016, and has been providing buildings to customers in New Zealand, Fiji and across Australia. All units are certified to meet Australian standards, come fully assembled, and once council-approved are able to be placed on land as a secondary dwelling. Transformer helped John access marketing support, legal and contracting advice.
Project Management
HIRI Transformer students Igo Gari and Debora Kocak founded Hiri, a company that recycles plastics and other waste items to build ‘coral frames’ to help replant coral areas affected by unsustainable fishing and other environmental damage. Currently, the project’s main focus is restoring damaged reefs in Papua New Guinea, with hope of eventually expanding the initiative globally. The team has received one of three Coral Restoration Learning Exchange Awards from the Coral Restoration Consortium following a presentation that Igo made at the Reef Futures 2018 conference in Florida, USA. Igo and Debora hope to partner with a range of different organisations, including government and corporations to empower locals and create more coral ambassador villages.

STUDENT PROJECTS
MASTER OF PROJECT INNOVATION / MASTER OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT THE FUTURE OF WORK IN THE GIG ECONOMY
WORK EXPERIENCE
The world of project management is changing. Projects and programs are increasingly creative in nature, embedding innovative thinking, and dealing with complex business environments. Disruption and change management are becoming normal. A ‘management by projects’ (or projectised) approach, based on interdisciplinary team collaboration is well suited to complex and / or innovative endeavours and is redefining hierarchical structures of corporate governance in the new gig economy.
New synergies with the Bond Business School (BBS) and The Transformer are used to create a distinctive program with a unique and rewarding learning experience. All full-time MPI / MPM students are encouraged to engage with The Transformer in trimesters 3 to 5 of their program in a volunteer (unpaid) capacity to help other students develop plans for business idea realisation, and in so doing strengthen their CV by attaining up to one year of work experience on-campus. Volunteers are issued with a Certificate of Appreciation and an employment reference upon completion.
WHAT IS PROJECT INNOVATION? Innovation in project management, including adaptable (agile) practices that can respond quickly to opportunities and explore alternative solutions with the freedom to experiment, requires a new approach that is not constrained by conventional ideologies and the fear of failure. The parallel processes of innovation management and project management need to interact, new ways of working need to be applied where time is of the essence, and benefits of design thinking within a diverse team environment must be realised. Our new project innovation courses, including our flagship combined degree with project management, explores this unique conceptual approach, and leads to six career specialisations (see opposite) evidenced by digital badges that can be shared on social media platforms such as LinkedIn®.

OVERSEAS STUDY TOUR The subject International Project Management is delivered in the form of a 10-day overseas study tour. The cost of airfares and accommodation is included within the subject tuition fee. Students are able to see examples of project innovation and better appreciate other cultures and project management practices via this core subject. Past study tours have visited the United Arab Emirates, Japan and Singapore.
CAREER SPECIALISATION Future ‘ideators’ will come to Bond to learn how to manage innovative products and services from concept through to practical implementation. Responsive, disruptive, nimble and customerfocused processes like Agile are expected to become increasingly necessary to meet modern business objectives. The six core MPI subjects prepare students for a range of ‘next generation’ career opportunities beyond the conventional project management competencies that underpin current practice. These career opportunities are identified as:

BE AN AGENT FOR CHANGE
WHY BOND?
Projects are vehicles for change. Organisations are increasingly becoming project-orientated and are seeking creative ‘can-do’ graduates with skills in communication, leadership, team management, change management, and process improvement. Our Bachelor of Project Management provides graduates who can find work in any industry sector, and for the first time in Queensland, provides a direct career path from school to professional certification as a project manager.
While most project management degrees worldwide are offered at the postgraduate level, there is now evidence that undergraduate study options are viable and provide a direct career path to the discipline for school leavers. In today’s competitive environment, organisations are increasingly becoming result-oriented and are improving their working environment and culture. They encourage employees to learn from their experiences and share them through a corporate knowledge base so that others can benefit from their lessons learned. These are the characteristics of a projectised organisation, which means there is a strong tendency to manage via projects rather than functional departments. Our Bachelor of Project Management produces graduates who can find work in any industry sector, and for the first time in Queensland, provides a direct career path from school to professional certification as a project manager. Graduates can articulate to our new Master of Project Innovation and complete these advanced studies part-time whilst working full-time. The Bachelor of Project Management has been approved for a 12-month provisional endorsement with Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) and will be recommended for full endorsement.
15
Project management is a global profession. More than ever project managers are necessary in almost every sector of business. From construction, property and information technology to government, healthcare and mining sectors to name a few. Upon completion of the Bachelor of Project Management you will have the skills required to keep up with trends, lead a team and problem solve in today’s digital era. Popular start-up roles for Bond graduates are; junior / assistant project manager, trainee program manager, project coordinator, and project administrator. Graduates can go onto progress their careers as; a project manager, project innovator, program manager, business analyst, design thinker, change-agent, entrepreneur, agile coach, and product manager.

SUNNY ANDALEBI Master of International Relations / Master of Project Management
Project Management
This is something that all managers and leaders need to understand no matter what industry they are in. What makes it an even better program is that the professors have had industry experience and so they are able to integrate their experiences into the assignments for the class.
17
Project Management is the perfect complementary degree because the program has excellent theoretical knowledge and practical skills, teaching you to plan and deliver projects on time, within budget and to scope.
POSTGRADUATE COMBINED DEGREES BE MULTI-TALENTED In addition to the new Master of Project Innovation / Master of Project Management, there are eight other combined programs that provide graduates with two qualifications. The Master of Project Management carries with it accreditation by PMI-GAC, RICS and AIPM, while the second degree may have its own accreditation as well. For example, the Master of Construction Practice is separately recognised by The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS), and the Queensland Building and Construction Council (QBCC). While project management is a broad discipline, graduates may choose to specialise in a particular field (like sport management). A second qualification can be attractive to prospective employers or clients. Multidisciplinary skills enable greater empathy and communication with project team members from diverse backgrounds. Combined programs typically reduce the overall duration of study (and corresponding tuition cost) by 25%. All our combined degrees can be completed in two calendar years full-time.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AS AN ENABLING DEGREE Combined degrees open up new and diverse job opportunities. For example, the Master of Architecture / Master of Project Management provides a gateway to meet the emerging need for better management of the design process.
Design increasingly comprises an array of players from different disciplines, often collaborating together for the first time, and the use of digital knowledge-sharing tools like BIM. The vast majority of students undertaking project management at Bond are enrolled in combined degrees. A degree in Project Management is akin to other enabling degrees – like an MBA – capable of unlocking wider career opportunity both now and well into the future. It recognises work is frequently undertaken in a projectised environment and requires core knowledge to ensure that any new initiative can be implemented efficiently and successfully.
INTERACTIVE CLASSES AND AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT Project management subjects have been designed to be engaging for participants through the use of blended learning – the harmonious integration of various student-centred learning experiences to enrich traditional face-to-face teaching – in order to provide more on-campus opportunity for discussion and problem-solving. Subjects employ job-relevant assessment tasks that supplement an authentic and formative personalised educational environment, state-of-the-art facilities and highly experienced instructors.
