BUILDING TOMORROW’S BUSINESS LEADERS, ONE BY ONE

HOW BOND BUSINESS RATES

Over the past decade, Bond Business School has set the benchmark for integrating big data and analytics into the broader spectrum of business, commerce and finance education. The School is home to the world-renowned Centre for Actuarial and Financial Big Data Analytics. It is the first and only university in Queensland to offer degrees in Actuarial Science. We also offer a major in Big Data as part of all our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Our focus on this crucial discipline is driven by the fact that the gathering and analysis of data represents the future of the corporate environment and, consequently, the corporate career marketplace. Over the next two years, 76 per cent of Australian companies are planning to increase their investment in data analytics and the number of data science professionals is expected to grow by 2.4 per cent every year between now and 2022. But, as many businesses have found, it is not enough to gather information and crunch numbers. The true advantage lies in knowing how to apply that data to real-life scenarios in a way that will impact behaviour and improve business decision-making. This ‘evidence-based’ decision making is a key pillar of Bond Business School’s programs, including our new Bachelor of Business Data Analytics. This is designed to prepare students for a future where big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence will be fully integrated into the business environment. It also underpins our MBA program which has been redesigned so students can tailor it to their individual career interests. Our MBA program can be completed full-time or on a part-time schedule, utilising intensive `bootcamps’ to accelerate learning, develop professional connections, and minimise time away from work and family. Above all, Bond Business School is differentiated by its dynamic study environment where small group classes are taught in boardrooms, meeting rooms and the FinTech Hub where you’ll have access to live-streamed financial market data via 40 Bloomberg Terminals.

THE BOND BUSINESS ADVANTAGE

3 4

1 OF 15 UNIVERSITIES IN AUSTRALIA

Our three-semester-per-year schedule means students graduate up to 12 months earlier than their peers at other universities. We have intakes in January, May and September so there’s no time wasted.

Bond Business School is among less than 7 per cent of the world’s 13,000 business programs to have earned accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. This represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide, granted only to those that offer the highest quality faculty, relevant and challenging curricula and superior career opportunities.

SMALL CLASSES AND PERSONAL MENTORING At most universities, business degrees are a numbers game, with class sizes averaging 300 to 1,000 students. At Bond Business School, students often learn in groups of around 20 to 30, delivering more interaction, more support and more opportunities for students. You’ll also have access to our formal mentoring program where you’ll be supported by academic staff, senior students and successful alumni.

REAL DIVERSITY Every Bond Business School student has the opportunity to enhance their learning experience with international study tours, work experience and study abroad opportunities, facilitated through our close connections with several of the world’s leading universities and corporations. However, the most powerful means of global exposure is our internationally diverse student environment.

1 OF 9 UNIVERSITIES IN AUSTRALIA Managed by the European Foundation for Management Development, EQUIS accreditation recognises the essential balance between high academic quality and the professional relevance provided by close interaction with the corporate world on a global scale. It also acknowledges innovation in all aspects of school activities. Bond Business School is proudly EQUIS accredited, placing Bond in the top 2 per cent of business schools in the world.

1 OF 4 UNIVERSITIES IN AUSTRALIA Bond Business School is a member of the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), a tangible statement of the significant contribution our programs make to graduate management education.

WE’RE WITH YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY... The Bond Business Mentoring Program teams you with academic staff, senior students and alumni who will mentor you in small groups to help you meet new friends, transition into the Bond community and tap into our extensive resources. We also offer academic support programs, intercultural skills workshops and public speaking workshops.

MAJORS AND SPECIALISATIONS Bond Business School’s flexible programs allow you to tailor your degree with majors and specialisations in your choice of: ACCOUNTING

HEALTH MANAGEMENT

As the critical element of all business decisions, accounting qualifications lead to careers in a wide range of business environments – from professional accounting practices and large corporations through to not-for-profit organisations and the public sector. Bond’s established networks with international accounting firms such as KPMG, PwC, EY and Deloitte, offer exceptional internship and mentoring opportunities.

The Health Management specialisation incorporates the most current industry-relevant research with applications in health analytics, systems and management. This specialisation is designed to assist and inform healthcare professionals and other healthcare providers transitioning to senior management roles. As a crossfaculty specialisation, Business students will engage with a range of healthcare professionals and researchers within the Healthcare Innovations program and the Faculty of Health Sciences & Medicine.

ACTUARIAL SCIENCE

Big Data provides a strong survey into the concepts and applications of modern machine learning and data analytics. Data analytics technologies and techniques are widely used in commercial industries to enable organisations to make more informed business decisions. In today’s marketplace, it is not enough to gather information and crunch numbers; you must know how to apply that data to real-life scenarios in a way that will impact behaviour.

ECONOMICS The study of economics looks at the big questions of how people, industries and countries can maximise their productivity, create wealth and maintain financial stability. While microeconomics looks into individual preferences, macroeconomics suggests ways to improve overall standards of living. It provides a fascinating framework for analysing how humans and organisations behave and interact which can be applied to careers as economists, financial analysts, management analysts and statisticians.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION Entrepreneurship is fully integrated into our core Bachelor of Business program, where every student is given the opportunity to conceive, develop and launch their own start-up. Other options include the 13-week Bond Business Accelerator, international study tours, high level internships and the new Transformer program.

FINANCE Finance is concerned with how individuals, firms, financial institutions and governments allocate their resources. While this primarily relates to the development, exchange and pricing of securities and commodities, it also encompasses investor psychology, computational finances and the impact of regulations on investor decision making.

Globalisation has changed the face of business education. Graduates are now expected to have a clear understanding of how business works in the international marketplace, and how companies can identify and leverage opportunities to become competitive on the world stage. In addition to undertaking international study tours and internships, Bond students are mentored by corporate headliners and successful alumni who share their global experience and contacts.

MANAGEMENT Management involves setting and accomplishing individual, group and organisational business objectives through planning, leading, organising and controlling resources. You’ll learn how to think strategically, understand financial realities and industry-specific factors, and become adept at negotiation and leadership. Most importantly, you’ll develop the skills to develop, motivate and guide others to achieve at their highest level.

MARKETING Marketing qualifications can be applied to a range of exciting careers in areas such as advertising, brand management, market research, promotion, public relations, research and strategy. With the focus on creating value for the customer through product or service offerings, you’ll gain insight into how customers think, analysing their behaviour and developing logical, yet creative solutions that will meet their needs.

TOURISM MANAGEMENT There is no better place in the world to study hotel and tourism management than Australia’s Gold Coast, where over 10 million visitors a year support a growing network of hotels, resorts, theme parks and attractions. Studying in this ‘living laboratory’, you’ll benefit from Bond Business School’s partnerships with global tourism brands such as Accor, Hilton, Marriott, InterContinental and more, who ensure our curriculum is relevant, current and informed by real-world application. Students will undertake an Industry Experience Placement or an Employment Activity as part of the Beyond Bond program.

STEVEN STERN Professor of Data Science Custodian of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) system I don’t teach facts, I teach ideas. I’m not interested in my students regurgitating facts and theories about stats; I want them to understand the real reasons behind data analysis methods and understand how and when analytic techniques should, and more importantly shouldn’t, be used. Data analysis is the skill of the future. If you know how to understand and analyse data, there is no industry or career in the world you can’t be involved in somehow.

Bond Business School

I chose Bond University because I really wanted to study Actuarial Science and Bond offers the program, with the business connections other universities lack. I recently completed an internship at a firm, using data analytics to find evidence used in large-scale lawsuits. In future I’m hoping to explore more sectors like investment banking and actuarial work to see what I love the most. My advice to those considering Bond is to take advantage of the tight knit community here because it is so unique.

The MBA program at Bond provided me one-on-one access to knowledgeable and experienced professors. I undertook work experience at a management consulting firm in Brisbane which was organised by the team in the Career Development Centre. This experience helped prepare me for my current role as Senior Consultant at Deloitte. In my MBA studies, I focused on innovation and entrepreneurship and this still fascinates me today. I’m currently developing an app with friends and hope to have my own start-up in the future.

The Business Commons is a modern, comfortable space that accommodates 120 students in a range of self-study areas, collaborative spaces and informal teaching areas.

Bond Business School

My Bond experience began as a huge unknown but it’s safe to say I finished my degree knowing exactly what I wanted to do and landed a job exactly where I wanted to be. I owe this to everything I learnt throughout my degree as well as the opportunities I was given and the professors who constantly pushed me to be my best.

RYAN CARROLL Bond Business School

I decided to study the Bachelor of Business majoring in Marketing because I needed to learn key areas like advertising, social media marketing and product development to allow me to successfully run my own business, Ideal Breakfast Shake, outside of university. What I enjoy most about the program is the application of the material to real-world business. The content is relevant to today’s society and something I actually take interest in. The lecturers are also really engaging and take the time to get to know you. It is this personalised and committed assistance that I enjoy most at Bond.
