Need a little help figuring out some of the terminology used in this guide? Here’s a handy glossary to help you decode your next steps.
Applicants who have not previously studied at university will enrol in an undergraduate degree. For most students, this is a bachelor’s degree or diploma program, which will be dependent on your qualifications and results from previous study.
Admission to a bachelor’s degree is based on Year 12 academic results (ATAR, IB or equivalent) or on the completion of a recognised pathway program. In 2020, the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) replaced the Overall Position (OP) as the primary tertiary admissions factor for Queensland Year 12 students.
A bachelor’s degree is an undergraduate award of 24 subjects which is commonly the entry qualification required for many professions or further study. Most subjects have a value of 10 credit points (cps). Some subjects may only be worth 5cps, where others may be worth 20cps if they involve a major industry project or thesis.
Ultimately, the value of successfully completed subjects will need to total 240cps for a standard bachelor’s degree. Exceptions include the Bachelor of Laws and the Medical Program^.
Some Bond University programs require students to have completed specific subjects, known as prerequisites, to be eligible for entry. These may have been completed in high school or through a pathway program such as a diploma. Please refer to individual program listings for more information.
Bond’s accelerated schedule inspires many students to undertake a combined degree.
Bachelor of Laws combinations are particularly popular, with the Bachelor of Business / Bachelor of Laws taking just 3 years and 8 months (11 semesters) to complete.
This is just another reason why Bond graduates stand out from the crowd - you could graduate with two degrees in the same time it takes others to complete one.
If your ATAR does not meet the entry requirements for your chosen program, or you choose not to receive an ATAR, there are alternative ways to open the door to university study, including preparation programs and higher education diplomas offered by Bond University College. These programs can help you satisfy the academic requirements you need to then progress into a related bachelor’s degree. Successful completion of a Bond University higher education diploma program guarantees entry into the third semester of a related bachelor’s degree. Please refer to page 74 for more information.
Diplomas are non-degree offerings in practical and occupational fields of study. A diploma can also be completed as a pathway for students who do not meet the academic requirements for direct entry into their chosen bachelor’s degree.
All of our higher education diplomas, as well as the Diploma Preparation Program, are delivered by Bond University College. Located at our main campus and fully integrated with the rest of the University, Bond College provides a supportive learning environment where students are afforded extra tutorial time and academic assistance to prepare them for a full degree.
To be accredited to practise in some professions, you may need to complete both an undergraduate and postgraduate program. These careers include architecture, psychology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and nutrition and dietetic practice. Bond’s accelerated programs enable you to complete both degrees and get accredited much sooner than at other universities.
A major is a cluster of six subjects selected from one area of specialisation, a minor is four subjects, and a double major is 12 subjects. Depending on your program, a major, minor, or double major can provide an opportunity to pursue a complementary interest area.
Each degree will comprise a specified number of compulsory foundation subjects, and a certain number of electives. In many cases, electives can be chosen from any faculty, which allows you to design your degree to suit your individual career ambitions or personal interests.

The demand for data science skills has continued to increase broadly across all sectors as organisations realise the benefits they can gain from analysing big data, particularly in applications of data mining and machine learning. This program provides Part I (Foundation Program) accreditation by the Actuaries Institute. Bond is one of seven universities in Australia, and the only university in Queensland, to be accredited by the Actuaries Institute.

The amount of data available to corporations is expanding rapidly and requires trained professionals to conduct analysis and provide business insights. The Bachelor of Actuarial Science (Honours) will develop your ‘data crunching’ skills and equip you to create practical solutions for real-world problems.
In this honours program, you will complete all the Part II (Actuary Program) subjects necessary to get accredited as an actuary by the Actuaries Institute. Part II accreditation requires the completion of two subjects delivered by the Actuaries Institute online. To become an accredited actuary, you must complete the honours program rather than just the Bachelor of Actuarial Science. An integral part of this degree is the development of research skills and actuarial judgement through the Actuarial Control Cycle subjects and the Actuarial Research Thesis subjects.
Technological change is happening at faster than ever before, transforming business model norms. Experts who can gather information, crunch numbers, and use data-driven insights to improve business decision making are highly sought-after.
The Bachelor of Business Data Analytics is focused on understanding how data analytics techniques can be used to inform business operations, and make and refine business decisions. It is a quantitative program, combining elements of statistics, computing, big data, and machine learning.
In this program, we teach students to understand the importance of data to modern businesses. The Medical Program is designed to equip graduates with the foundational knowledge, skills, and attributes required to safely and effectively practise medicine in today’s complex healthcare environment. Throughout the Medical Program, you will be immersed in small group learning, simulation activities, community and clinical placements, and a cultural immersion experience.
The Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMedSt) is the first of two sequential degrees at Bond University and is an undergraduate program, sitting at Level 7 of the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Because of Bond’s small class sizes, students learn in a highly personalised environment with state-of-the-art equipment. Students will learn mainly in small group sessions which will comprise of interactive cases, clinical skills and laboratory sessions. This contemporary approach to medical education ensures that learning relates directly to patient care and prepares graduates to assume a high level of responsibility.
The Bachelor of Medical Studies comprises eight semesters delivered over two years and eight months, and is followed by the Doctor of Medicine, comprised of six semesters delivered over two years. The two sequential degrees take 14 semesters in total and are equivalent to seven standard academic years in duration. However, with Bond University’s three-semester-per-year timetable and intensive clinical training periods, these two programs are completed in just four years and eight months making it the fastest pathway to becoming a doctor in Australia and New Zealand. Graduates are then eligible to apply for hospital internships.
Students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Medical Studies proceed directly into the Doctor of Medicine program.
The Doctor of Medicine (MD) component is an extended master’s level program where you will spend two years rotating through clinical placements in hospital and community healthcare settings. You will commence your MD research or professional project, or a capstone experience, and prepare a portfolio of your work. This experience is enhanced by face-to-face teaching.
The Bachelor of Medical Studies and Doctor of Medicine degrees are accredited by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) ensuring that they meet or exceed the agreed national guidelines for medical education. Upon successful completion of both of the degrees, graduates are eligible for registration as a medical practitioner in any state or territory in Australia or New Zealand.
Graduates of the sequential degrees (BMedSt and MD) will have the appropriate knowledge, attitudes and skills to work effectively as interns in Australian and New Zealand hospitals and will be ideally positioned to undergo further training in any of the Australasian specialty colleges.

The Bachelor of Psychological Science will provide you with a scientific understanding of normal psychological processes such as perception, memory, learning, motivation, psychobiology, personality, emotion, developmental psychology, and social relationships, as well as training in abnormal psychology. A basic understanding of these topics is acquired across the two introductory subjects before a greater depth of coverage is undertaken within the advanced second and third-level subjects.
You will also participate in laboratory work and be introduced to the Australian Psychological Society Code of Ethics. To underpin the scientific nature of the discipline, you will receive training in a range of data analytics techniques and research methods used by psychologists. This program is designed to equip you with the basic scientific grounding and theoretical understanding required for advanced level studies.

Alternative pathway
The Graduate Diploma in Psychology (Bridging) allows students to fast-track a qualification equivalent to a three-year undergraduate sequence in the discipline of psychology. It is designed for students who have completed an undergraduate program in a discipline other than psychology and are looking to transition to the pathway required for registration, or for students who have completed an undergraduate psychology qualification but have not met the entry threshold to progress to fourth-year studies. This program is not available to international students who intend to apply for a student visa to undertake this program.
The Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) is designed to provide students with an integrated, comprehensive, and complete education in the discipline of psychology. Students undertake advanced training in a range of methodological (research methods, psychometrics, statistics) and applied areas, and develop competence in conducting research. All applied material is based on the scientist-practitioner model, and evidence-based approaches to psychological intervention are emphasised.

Bond’s Aquatic Centre includes a 50m Olympic-size heated swimming pool and a FINA-ratified 10-lane, 25m pool. A recent addition to Bond’s high-performance sports facilities is the state-of-the-art Esports Hub. The Bond Institute of Health & Sport is a world-class teaching and training centre which regularly hosts international athletes and professional teams. Bond University is a fully independent, not-for-profit institution that invests 100 per cent of your tuition fees into providing a five-star educational experience, state-of-the-art facilities, and a truly personalised student framework. While our tuition fees are not subsidised by the Australian Government, they can be financed through a number of options including government assistance packages.
FEE-HELP
FEE-HELP is an interest-free student loan program funded by the Australian Government for all Australian citizens and others who meet the eligibility requirements. Similar to HECS-HELP, FEE-HELP allows eligible students to defer their tuition fees until after they graduate when they can then be paid off in regular instalments.
From 1 January, 2020, a combined HELP loan limit replaced the FEE-HELP limit and includes FEE-HELP, VET Student Loans, VET FEE-HELP, and HECS-HELP. Only HECS-HELP borrowing from 1 January, 2020 onwards counts towards a person’s HELP limit. Any existing FEE-HELP, VET FEE-HELP or VET Student Loans that counted towards your FEE-HELP limit will count towards the combined HELP limit.
In 2023, the combined HELP loan limit is $113,028 for most students. The limit for students in the Medical Program is $162,336. Repayments are made through the taxation system at a minimum rate of 1 per cent per annum when your annual income reaches $48,361. The rate of repayment increases as annual income increases. You can apply for FEE-HELP online once you have received an offer from Bond University with your Student Identification Number. studyassist.gov.au
Bond offers a number of loyalty discounts to students who have a direct family member attending an eligible program at Bond or who have already completed an eligible program here. These loyalty programs may provide a reduction of up to 10 per cent on tuition fees.
Most Australian students who receive some form of government income support are on either Youth Allowance or AUSTUDY / ABSTUDY. Contact Centrelink for more information on eligibility.

With support from Bond, I was fortunate to be a recipient of the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan Scholarship, and so far, it has been one of the most incredible and valuable experiences of my life.
After hearing stories of South Korea from my mum, who lived there while completing her PhD, I became interested in East Asia and its respective cultures. So, in May of 2022, I departed for Seoul. I have only lived in Europe and Australia, so Asia was both intimidating and exciting.
So far, I have completed language training, an internship with Herbert Smith Freehills, and a semester of study of international relations at Yonsei University. Between that, I have attended weddings of Korean friends and their family members, travelled to Taiwan and Japan with exchange friends, and visited almost every major city in South Korea. What was meant to be a 7-month trip is turning into a 12-month trip (and continues to grow!).
Getting to know the Korean culture has opened my eyes to the cultural similarities and differences Australia has with other countries in our geopolitical neighbourhood. I have been stunned by the hospitality of Koreans, as well as the sheer differences in perspectives our cultures have. I have also been privileged to make close friends with people from all over the world.
The pure variety of my time overseas has been both exhausting (in a good way!) and my favourite aspect of the experience. I cannot speak highly enough of Bond’s exchange programs. I strongly encourage Bondies to get out of their comfort zone and make incredible memories overseas.

If you don’t meet the entry requirements for your chosen degree, Bond offers a range of pathways through Bond University College to help you achieve the academic requirements you need.
Our pathway programs are delivered on campus by Bond University College where you will benefit from extra hours of face-to-face teaching in a small-class, mentored environment. The College provides a personalised service via a strengths-based model of educational support. Located in the heart of the Bond campus, you will have access to all of the University’s resources and facilities, and will be welcomed as a member of the Bond community from the day you arrive. Successful completion of a Bond University College program gives you the opportunity to gain entry to a Bond University undergraduate degree with varying credit. The time to completion from a diploma program to a bachelor’s program is essentially the same. Once you successfully complete your diploma, you enter your bachelor’s program in Semester 3*, enabling you to still graduate ahead of your peers at standard universities. We know that every journey to university is different, so if you haven’t received an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR), don’t worry – there are other pathways that may permit you to gain entry to Bond University.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) study
Bond University accepts VET qualifications, including Certificate IVs, diplomas, and advanced diplomas, for entry, with the following assigned ranks. Please note that these are provided as a guide only. You must still meet any prerequisites and additional requirements for your chosen program to qualify for entry.
** All applicants using VET qualifications for entry must be 18 years old or older at the time of admission, or must have completed a Year 12 certificate of education (Queensland Certificate of Education or equivalent). Students under the age of 18 may be admitted if more than two years have passed from the completion of Year 10, or one year from the completion of Year 11.

• Bachelor of Biomedical Science
• Bachelor of Business Law
• Bachelor of Jurisprudence
• Bachelor of Laws
• Any combined program that includes a program mentioned above
• Medical Program^
^ The Medical Program is comprised of two sequential degrees – the Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMedSt) and the Doctor of Medicine (MD). All students selected for entry into the Medical Program will have to complete both the BMedSt and MD to be eligible for registration as a medical practitioner in any state or territory in Australia or New Zealand. Both degrees are awarded at the completion of Year 5.
If you complete a VET qualification in school and then go on to successfully complete Year 12 (with or without an ATAR), Bond will assess your VET qualification for admission. You will be assessed based on your highest completed in-school VET qualification, and must have also successfully completed Year 12. If you have also obtained an ATAR, then Bond University will consider the higher ranked of the two qualifications (ATAR or VET) for admission.
Bond University considers non-ATAR high school leavers for admissions into the Diploma of Arts, Diploma of Built Environment, Diploma of Business, and Diploma of Creative Design. To be eligible for non-ATAR entry, you must have completed Year 12 and obtained a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or equivalent, and received a pass mark or higher in a minimum of three General or Applied subjects with a grade of C or better in Units 3 and 4.
To have prior higher education recognised for admission into Bond University, you must have completed at least one semester of full-time undergraduate study (Australian Qualifications Framework Level 7 or above) at a recognised university. Your GPA will be assessed and you will be assigned a selection rank to support your application to study at Bond. If you are a current Australian Year 12 applicant, or you successfully completed your Australian Year 12 studies no more than two years ago and have not commenced any university studies, you may be eligible for adjustments to help you get into your intended program at Bond University.
You will only be considered for adjustments if you do not meet the minimum ATAR / IB or selection rank required for the program. The adjustments will be applied if you meet the criteria for the relevant adjustment factor/s, and will increase your selection rank to help you get an offer for your intended program. You must still meet all necessary prerequisites for your program.

Applying to study at Bond is easy! Applications for most Bond programs can be lodged online at any time directly to us. Just make sure you check the entry requirements for your chosen program. You are not required to go through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC)*, and there are no fees to apply. bond.edu.au/apply
* Applications for the Medical Program are only open to domestic students and must be lodged through QTAC at qtac.edu.au
If you are a current Year 12 student commencing university studies in 2023, Bond will assess your application based on your high school results. You may then receive an early offer** before you receive your ATAR results. Any Bond applications submitted once ATAR results are released will be assessed under the program’s standard entry requirements. If you are not currently a Year 12 student, your application will be assessed as per Bond’s usual application process.
** Excluding Bond’s Medical Program.
Make sure that you complete all fields in your application form including uploading required documentation. This documentation may consist of academic transcripts, including your Year 11 and Year 12 results at time of submission, photo identification, and any other documents required for specific programs, such as certificates or awards.

Agree to the application declaration and click ‘submit’. You’ll receive an email from Bond University to confirm your application was successfully submitted.
The application review process will normally take two weeks, provided all supporting documentation has been submitted. Our Future Students team will be in touch with you if they require any further information, so keep an eye on your email inbox. You can also track your online application on our online application service with the same login details.

As a successful applicant, you will receive an email from us inviting you to officially become a Bond student. This email includes a formal Letter of Offer from Bond University and information about fee payment options and accommodation.
You are two steps away from confirming your place at Bond! To accept your offer, all you need to do is log in to our online application service and follow the instructions, complete the FEE-HELP form online, or pay the required fees as listed on your offer. If you are a current Year 12 student, once you receive your ATAR results, take a photo of your results and SMS them to your Domestic Regional Manager. Visit bond.edu.au/regional-managers for your Regional Manager’s contact details.
Your first introduction to university life! Orientation is the perfect time to make new friends, find your way around campus, and complete your enrolment at Bond. The Orientation experience features an exciting program of social activities where you can relax and meet people, and there are lots of information hubs to help you get ready for university life. Orientation information will be sent to you in the lead-up to your first semester.
