Becci Tannenbaum LAW ALUMNA. MOOTER. ASPIRING LEADER IN MEDIA LAW.

The Core Curriculum helped me to... Think beyond what was expected in senior school and apply a more mature focus to my academic work. The Core subjects were also a perfect way to get to know students across the wider University, as I was able to learn alongside people from all faculties.

As part of Beyond Bond I had the opportunity to... Complete work experience at a law firm in Sydney. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and found it a very valuable talking point when applying for graduate positions. Beyond Bond inspired me to take on this opportunity and provided me with the support to complete work experience interstate.

I believe Bond graduates stand out because... Of the close connections Bondies make with academics, fellow classmates and industry, not just on campus, but globally. This provides us with the confidence to strive for big opportunities. Bondies are very much encouraged to think uniquely and practically, rather than solely relying on theory. Bond’s small class sizes and the personal relationships you form create an environment where students can be closely linked to industry and undertake work experience very early in their degree.

As a recent Bond graduate I am... Now working as a law graduate at Herbert Smith Freehills. Having undertaken a clerkship at the firm in my penultimate year at Bond, I developed an affinity for the values of the organisation and made strong connections with my colleagues. Longer term, I have aspirations to become a leader within the media and communications law sector.

Your degree decoded Applicants who have not previously studied at university will normally enrol in an undergraduate bachelor’s degree or diploma.

Entry requirements

Foundation subjects and electives

Admission to a bachelor’s degree is based on Year 12 academic results (ATAR, IB or equivalent) or on the completion of a recognised pathway program.

Each degree will comprise a specified number of compulsory foundation subjects, and a certain number of electives.

In 2020, the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) replaced the Overall Position (OP) as the primary tertiary admissions factor for Queensland Year 12 students.

In many cases, electives can be chosen from any faculty, which enables you to design your degree to suit your individual career ambitions or personal interests.

Bachelor’s degree

Diploma

A bachelor’s degree is an undergraduate award of 24 subjects which is commonly the entry qualification required for many professions or further study. Most subjects have a value of 10 credit points (cps). Some subjects may only be worth 5cps, where others may be worth 20cps if they involve a major industry project or thesis.

Diplomas are non-degree offerings offered in practical and occupational fields of study.

Ultimately, the value of successfully completed subjects will need to total 240cps for a standard bachelor’s degree. Exceptions include the Bachelor of Laws and the Medical Program^. Prerequisites Some Bond University programs require students to have completed specific subjects, known as prerequisites, to be eligible for entry. These may have been completed in high school or a pathway program such as a diploma. Please refer to individual program listings for more information.

Combined degrees Bond’s accelerated schedule inspires many students to undertake a combined degree. Bachelor of Laws combinations are particularly popular, with the Bachelor of Business / Bachelor of Laws taking just 3 years and 8 months (11 semesters). This is just another reason why Bond graduates stand out from the crowd - you could graduate with two degrees in the same time it takes others to complete one.

A diploma can also be completed as a pathway for students who do not meet the academic requirements for direct entry into their chosen bachelor’s degree.

Academic pathways If your ATAR does not meet the entry requirements for your chosen program, or you choose not to get an ATAR, there are alternative ways to open the door to university study, including preparation programs and higher education diplomas offered by Bond University College. These programs can help you satisfy the academic requirements you need to then progress into a related bachelor’s degree – you may even be eligible for credit. Please refer to page 58 for more information.

Consecutive degrees To be accredited to practise in some professions, you may need to complete both an undergraduate and postgraduate program. These careers include architecture, psychology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and nutrition and dietetic practice. Bond’s accelerated programs enable you to complete both degrees and get accredited much sooner than at other universities.

Majors, minors and double majors A major is a cluster of six subjects selected from one area of specialisation, a minor is four subjects, and a double major is 12 subjects. Depending on your program, a major, minor or double major can provide an opportunity to pursue a complementary interest area.

^ The Medical Program is comprised of two sequential degrees - the Bachelor of Medical Studies and the Doctor of Medicine. Applications for the Medical Program must be lodged through QTAC.

Take the fast lane Bond’s accelerated, three-semester-per-year timetable means you’ll finish your degree sooner and be earning an income up to a year ahead of graduates from other universities. Our accelerated degree structure has opened the doors to exceptional career opportunities for many of our high-flying alumni - enabling them to enter the workforce sooner and fast-track their first promotion. In fact, many of our alumni have achieved director, CEO, private practice and partnership status within 10 years of graduating from Bond.

Callum Roberts MATHEMATICIAN. SURFER. FUTURE ACTUARY.

I’m from... The Gold Coast.

Technological change is happening at a faster rate than ever before, transforming business model norms. Experts who can gather information, crunch numbers, and use data-driven insights to improve business decision making are highly sought-after. The Bachelor of Business Data Analytics is focused on understanding how data analytics techniques can be used to inform business operations, and make and refine business decisions. It is a quantitative program, combining elements of statistics, computing, big data, and machine learning. In this program, we teach students to understand the importance of data to modern businesses. The challenges of data analytics centre on the need for multiple disciplines to produce employable graduates who understand data analysis, capture, curation, search, sharing, storage, transfer, visualisation, and privacy.

Students must select one minor from the following: • • • • • • •

Accounting Economics Entrepreneurship and Innovation Finance Management Marketing Tourism Management

The growing, unmet demand for graduates equipped to analyse and interpret increasingly complex and vast amounts of data is at a critical phase in Australia, and indeed, in other parts of the world. With a qualification in business data analytics, there are endless opportunities.

The second of Bond’s two-part Medical Program - the Doctor of Medicine (MD) - must be completed for students to be eligible for registration as a medical practitioner in any state or territory in Australia or New Zealand. The MD is distinguished by its comprehensive focus on evidence-based medicine and integrated clinical practice.

Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMedSt) The Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMedSt) is the first of two sequential degrees at Bond University and is an undergraduate program, sitting at Level 7 of the Australian Qualifications Framework. Because of Bond’s small class sizes, students learn in a highly personalised environment with state-of-the-art equipment. Students benefit from a variety of teaching and learning systems, including small group learning, practical classes, clinical skills and laboratory training, self-directed learning, web-based and e-learning, interactive seminars and lectures. This contemporary approach to medical education ensures that learning relates directly to patient care and prepares graduates to assume a high level of responsibility. The Bachelor of Medical Studies comprises eight semesters delivered over two years and eight months, and is followed by the Doctor of Medicine, comprised of six semesters delivered over two years. The two sequential degrees take 14 semesters in total and are equivalent to seven standard academic years in duration. However, with Bond University’s three-semester-per-year timetable and intensive clinical

training periods, these two programs are completed in just four years and eight months making it the fastest pathway to becoming a doctor in Australia and New Zealand. Graduates are then eligible to apply for hospital internships.

Dr Christian Moro NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL AWARD WINNER. SCIENCE AND SCHOLAR THEME LEAD. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR. “A medical degree places graduates as ambassadors, teachers, advocates, leaders and promoters of health. Having a great doctor can contribute a lot to a patient’s healing journey, however, this all starts from a solid learning and experiential foundation. The Bond Medical Program produces well-regarded, capable graduates and equips them to take on each of these roles, and much more, in their future healthcare careers.” Australian Teaching Excellence Award (AAUT & Universities Australia) winner Recipient of a Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning (Australian Government’s AOLT) AFR Higher Education & ASCILITE Innovation Award winner

^ The Medical Program comprises two sequential degrees – the Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMedSt) and the Doctor of Medicine (MD). Applications for Medical Program must be lodged through QTAC. All students selected for entry into the Medical Program will have to complete both the BMedSt and MD to be eligible for registration as a medical practitioner in any state or territory in Australia or New Zealand. Samuel Savage PSYCHOLOGY STUDENT. COMPETITIVE SPORTSPERSON. MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCATE.

I grew up in... Brisbane, and have Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander origin from the Erub people of Darney Island and Wanyi people of Normanton.

I was inspired to study psychology because... Many people close to me were going through difficult times with their mental health, and I wanted to be able to do more than just listen, so that ignited a passion to be able to help.

I chose to study at Bond because… I was told about the amazing student support, facilities, people, and professors, and so I decided that it was where I wanted to be.

At Bond I have had the opportunity to…

Jessica Borten STUDENT JOURNALIST. CAT LOVER. SKY NEWS INTERN.

I grew up... On the Gold Coast.

In my first year at Bond I have… Been involved in so many different opportunities already. I have been a student reporter at the Bond University Newsroom, a Project Consultant for the A21 Campaign, and the Head of Writing for the Bound student magazine. Through the Career Development Centre at Bond, I managed to score employment as a Guest Liaison at the Sky News Gold Coast office in Southport. My role includes setting up guests for remote interviews and attending press conferences.

In five years I will be… On my way to achieving an executive producer or editor-in-chief role.

My advice to new students is… Take part in as much as you can – you’ll get out what you put in – and make sure to utilise the Career Development Centre when possible. University is definitely the time to explore opportunities outside your comfort zone so keep an eye out for things you wouldn’t normally consider, and then do it.

Bond offers a number of loyalty discounts to students who have a direct family member attending an eligible program at Bond or who have completed an eligible program here. These loyalty programs may provide a reduction of up to 10 per cent on tuition fees.

In 2022 the combined HELP loan limit will be $109,206 for most students. The limit for students in the Medical Program will be $156,847. A Bondy abroad With the support of Bond, I received the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan Scholarship and it was one of the most amazing, eye-opening and challenging experiences I’ve had in my life. Between studying international law in Hong Kong, to interning with an NGO in Nepal, it’s safe to say I’ve made memories that will last me a lifetime. After travelling to Hong Kong in 2018 to represent Bond at an international mooting competition, I became extremely passionate about international legal practice, particularly in east Asia. In late August 2019, I jumped on my flight with my one-way ticket to begin my study component at the University of Hong Kong.

Something that initially struck me about Hong Kong was how much of a hub for internationalism it truly was. I lived, studied and travelled with students from all walks of life – India, South Korea, Spain, Germany, North America, and of course, a fair few Australians. I learned from some absolutely amazing lecturers, one of whom was a barrister; the others had studied at Yale, Oxford, Columbia and Georgetown. And when I wasn’t in class I was travelling around Hong Kong in one of its neighbouring countries, catching up with fellow Bondies in Taiwan, Malaysia, China, Philippines and Thailand. I’ll never forget those experiences. Jacob Cookson, Bachelor of Biomedical Science / Bachelor of Laws alumnus Graduate, Norton Rose Fulbright

Admission pathways What are adjustment factors?

What is the maximum adjustment?

If you are a current Australian Year 12 applicant, or you successfully completed your Australian Year 12 studies no more than two years ago and have not commenced any university studies, you may be eligible for adjustments to help you get into your intended program at Bond University.

The maximum adjustment applied to each applicant is five (5) ranks from one or more adjustment factors. Each adjustment factor has a maximum adjustment rank.

How do adjustment factors work? You will only be considered for adjustments if you do not meet the minimum ATAR / IB or selection rank required for the program. The adjustments will be applied if you meet the criteria for the relevant adjustment factor/s.

Adjustment factors cannot be used for entry into the Bond Medical Program, the Bachelor of Laws program and undergraduate programs with additional requirements such as auditions, interviews, portfolios or questionnaires. For more info, please visit: bond.edu.au/adjustment-factors

If you meet the eligible criteria, Bond University will grant you adjustment points to increase your selection rank. Adjustment can increase your selection rank, and this may get you an offer for your intended program. You must still meet any prerequisites specified for entry into your intended program.

VET qualifications Can I use a VET qualification for entry? For 2023 admission, Bond University will continue to accept VET Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualifications for entry with the following assigned ranks. Please note that the assigned selection rank is provided as a guide only. You must still meet prerequisites and any additional requirements for the program.

VET qualification*

Assigned selection rank

Completed ungraded AQF Certificate IV

74

Completed ungraded AQF Diploma

78

Completed ungraded AQF Advanced Diploma

91

* Graded VET qualifications will be assigned a rank based on the grades attained. For admission to Bond University from 2021 onwards, ungraded VET qualifications will no longer be accepted for direct entry into some of our programs. For more information please speak with your Domestic Regional Manager about our Bond University College diploma pathways.

Have you completed an in-school VET qualification? If you complete a VET qualification in school and successfully complete Year 12 (with or without an ATAR), Bond will consider your VET qualification for admission. You may be required to demonstrate English language proficiency by passing the English subject with a grade of C or better, or by undertaking an English proficiency test and achieving the required scores for entry. If you have also attained an ATAR, then Bond University will consider the higher ranked of the two qualifications (ATAR or VET) for admission. Advanced standing (credit) may be provided in a similar undergraduate degree.

For admission to Bond University from 2021 onwards, ungraded VET qualifications will no longer be accepted for direct entry into the following programs: • Any combined program that includes a program mentioned below • Bachelor of Actuarial Science • Bachelor of Business Data Analytics • Bachelor of Biomedical Science • Bachelor of Business Law • Bachelor of Jurisprudence • Bachelor of Laws • Bond Medical Program^

^ The Medical Program is comprised of two sequential degrees – the Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMedSt) and the Doctor of Medicine (MD). All students selected for entry into the Medical Program will have to complete both the BMedSt and MD to be eligible for registration as a medical practitioner in any state or territory in Australia or New Zealand. Both degrees are awarded at the completion of Year 5.
