BLDG 61 is a free community workshop dedicated to hands-on learning through making.

The makerspace is equipped with a broad selection of tools and materials to fulfill the needs of both creative and industrial projects. Laser Cutters, Sewing Machines, CNC Machines, 3D Printers, Looms, Screen Printing Equipment, Vinyl Cutters, Electronics, Woodworking Tools, and more are available at BLDG 61.

*SEWING REVOLUTION

First Sunday of the month, 1:30–4:30 p.m. at Main in the BLDG 61 Makerspace

A community-style sewing workshop. Materials and equipment will be provided for a beginner level project of the month. Patrons are also welcome to bring articles of clothing in need of mending, tailoring, or upcycling to the program.

Open Studio

Tuesdays & Wednesdays, 2:30–6:45 p.m. at Main in the BLDG 61 Makerspace

Visit during Open Studio hours to see the makerspace in action, learn about equipment, or get hands-on with a project of your own. Staff is available for guidance with tools and materials. All experience levels and ages welcome. *Appointments for select tools can be made at bldg61.org.

*U-FIX-IT CLINIC HANDS-ON REPAIR: MUSIC EDITION

Sunday, Aug. 20, 1–4:30 p.m. at Main in the BLDG 61 Makerspace

Take part in a special Boulder U-Fix-It Clinic. Bring any musical instrument you want to learn how to fix with the help of U-Fix-It Clinic coaches – FX pedals, guitars, speakers, you name it! We’ll have a toolbox and supplies for each workstation, but you are encouraged to bring any parts or tools that might be helpful for the repair. After fixing our equipment we will have a jam session in the Canyon Theater!

COLLAGE POETRY WITH BEYOND ACADEMIA FREE SKOOL

Saturday, Sept. 9, 2–4:30 p.m. at Main in the BLDG 61 Makerspace

Drop-in and create your own mixed media poem and have a chance to be included in the “Poems

Beyond the Page” exhibition featured on the Arapahoe ramp! This makerspace collage party is presented by Beyond Academia Free Skool, a community centered organization dedicated to serving Boulder and beyond through offering free arts education. All ages welcome.

READING BUDDIES: Kids grade 1-3, apply to be part of our Reading Buddies program! Little Buddies are matched up with an adult/CU student (Big Buddies) and meet weekly at Main 4:30–6 p.m. for reading fun.

*SOLAR ECLIPSE ART AND EXPLORATION

Prepare for the solar eclipse on October 14th. We’ll use art to learn about eclipses with Shawn Bowman from Two Bee Industries.

SOLAR ECLIPSE VIEWING PARTY

Saturday, Oct. 14, 10 a.m–noon at Meadows

Watch the solar eclipse together! View a live feed of the eclipse indoors and use solar-viewing glasses to safely watch the celestial event outside. Conduct fun experiments with Mad Science of Colorado, enjoy solar-themed crafts and eat tasty treats.

GO CLUB

Sundays, 1:30–4:45 p.m. at Main in the Children’s Story Space – Ages 5+

Learn to play the board game Go. The rules are simple enough to learn in a few minutes–but it can take a lifetime to master the game. Go boards are provided and take-home sets made of cardboard are available for free.

POKÉMON CLUB

First and Third Sundays of the month, 2–3 p.m. at Reynolds

All levels of Pokémon Trainer are welcome!

CHESS CLUB

Second and Fourth Mondays of the month, 5:30–7 p.m. at Main in the Mt. Sanitas Room –Ages 8-18

Learn and play at our drop-in chess club. Players of all abilities are welcome. Children younger than 8 are welcome with an adult helper.

1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN LIBRARY CAMPOUT

Friday, Aug. 4, 2:30–4:30 p.m. at Meadows – Ages 0-5

Celebrate your 1000 Books Before Kindergarten journey at this indoor camping extravaganza! Make outdoorsy crafts, participate in adventure-filled activities, and read s’more books! Bring your own blankets and pillows to construct reading forts.

Get building in this exciting “offline” video game experience where we give the controllers a rest and bring your favorite characters from the virtual world to the real world. Design and build as never before and explore your craziest ideas. Registration required for children attendees only.

3:30–4:30 p.m. at Main in the Boulder Creek Room Boulder Public Library welcomes all families who are raising their children in a bilingual household. Socialize and meet others speaking multiple languages at home, whether it be French, German, Italian, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, etc. Light refreshments will be provided.

*MINECRAFT ENGINEERING: LEGO BUILD-ALONG WITH PLAY-WELL TEKNOLOGIES

Saturday, Aug. 19, 2–3:30 p.m. at Meadows – Ages 6-11 Venture into the world of Minecraft in this unique LEGO experience! Build your base, craft tools, use a Minecart to harvest raw resources, and stop the Ender Dragon from ending the world.

Are your neighborhood fairies ready for hibernation? Decorate some fairy doors with us and help the fairies find their way back home for winter! Enjoy an afternoon with a storytime about fairies, magical crafts, and dancing. We encourage the attendees to dress up for this event!

PUZZLE AND GAME EXCHANGE

Sunday, Aug. 27, 12:30–2:30 p.m. at Reynolds

Throughout the month of August, drop off your complete, gently-used jigsaw puzzles or board games at the Reynolds Library. Then, join us at the Puzzle and Game Exchange to choose new-to-you puzzles and games! All unclaimed items will be donated.
