There is now no doubt that it is not financially sustainable for our local councils to carry on as they are. All councils in Dorset are facing unprecedented financial pressures and increasing demand for services, especially in social care. Now is the time to embrace change, get rid of existing complicated structures and drive out inefficiencies in the current set up. We therefore believe that two unitary councils for Dorset is the best way forward. With input from residents and businesses we can reshape the set up of Dorset’s local government to ensure our local communities continue to thrive.

the town Cliff monitoring continues following landslip Many of you will be aware that in late April, there was a significant landslip at East Cliff. It demolished the East Cliff toilets and undermined the supporting structure for the East Cliff lift.
We have worked with specialist technical engineers to undertake a detailed assessment of the cliff area and reviewed and examined historical information. A clean-up of the site was then able to take place in May. This involved: an abseiling team descending from the clifftop to secure the damaged lifts to the running rails before their removal took place

New café opens at town’s busiest roundabout
A quirky new café built from a renovated shipping freight container, recently opened in the central pedestrian area of a major commuter roundabout in Lansdowne. The roundabout at Holdenhurst Road near the station is being revamped to make the area safer and more attractive. As part of wider improvements, local artist Rick Walker, has designed brightly coloured panels which direct people to key landmarks across the town. Further works this summer will see new lighting installed.

Councillor Mike Greene, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “Through these works we have turned a neglected area into a more welcoming place for the millions of visitors and commuters who travel through this part of town.
“Together with the Council's environmental improvements, I am sure the new cafe will make pedestrians' journey to the station more enjoyable and encourage them to use this convenient route."
Built from an old shipping freight container, the new café is open seven days a week and offers a wide range of food and drink to pick up when you’re on the go.

BU Festival of Learning returns
The Festival of Learning 2016 will run from Saturday 25 June to Wednesday 29 June, with a host of free events and activities on offer.
These range from family activities and sporting sessions to professional development and business-focused workshops. Saturday The Festival kicks off with a Family Day on campus, which is open to all - young and old. Come along and be inspired with a range of fun workshops. Two talks by award-winning adventurer Alastair Humphreys will also feature. He will share stories from his expeditions, including cycling around the world, and discuss his concept of micro-adventures - short and cheap adventures close to home. Sunday We take our research out to the community: a day of activities off-campus for everyone to enjoy.
Monday to Wednesday Activities return to campus with an emphasis on events for schools, professional development and networking opportunities.

Rituals and Revelry at the Russell-Cotes
Puppets have always had a mystery and a magic. The Rituals and Revelry exhibition at the Russell-Cotes captures that magic and makes it accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. The exhibition runs until 8 October. Also at the Russell-Cotes this summer, from 21 June to 14 August, an exhibition of the work of Brian Froud, fantasy illustrator. And from 16 August to 16 October you can see The Art of Flight, a groundbreaking collection of modern aviation art by David Bent. The Russell-Cotes house, East Cliff Hall, was the home of Merton and Russell-Cotes Annie Russell-Cotes. Over the next few months we will be looking to recruit six office based apprentices in different council departments.
An apprenticeship is a nationally recognised training programme, which combines learning and on the job training. An apprentice can study towards a vocational qualification at the same time as gaining real skills and valuable experience. Apprentices get paid a wage and have paid holidays. We already have a number of apprentices working for us in different roles including trades such as plumbing, carpentry and horticulture as well as office based jobs in customer service and business administration. Look out for signs of forced marriage
Schools will soon wind down for the summer, and everyone is looking forward to the holidays. But for some children the six-week break is a time of fear and dread as an estimated 350 children in the UK will become the victim of a forced marriage.
Signs suggesting a child may be vulnerable to forced marriage include:
Councillor Nicola Greene, Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services, said: “We want to raise awareness of this issue so that people are alert to the problem of forced marriages, particularly over the school holidays. This is because many cases affect children aged under 16.”
• Running away, truanting, prolonged or persistent absence from school.
Forced marriage is illegal in the UK. It is where one or both people do not, or cannot, consent to marriage. Pressure in the form of threats and abuse is used.

New to You Shop – open to Bournemouth residents
New to You is a service giving everyday items a new home at affordable prices, it supports local people and reduces the cost of waste disposal by re-using items that would otherwise be thrown away. The New to You Shop, located in Poole, now receives weekly deliveries from Millhams Community Recycling Centre so it is well stocked with a variety of products. These include furniture, crockery and glassware, toys, sporting goods, DIY goods and lots more.
Millhams Community Recycling Centre is now run by Borough of Poole on our behalf and the reuse shop has been removed from the site. Reusable items are instead sold at their New to You shop, which is also open to Bournemouth residents.
You can find the shop at Cabot Lane Depot, Albany Business Park, Cabot Lane, BH17 7BX (behind the IMO Car Wash and next to Dolphin Indoor Bowls Club). Open every Saturday between 10am and 2pm. Love your loo: wet wipes belong in the bin
A blocked drain must be high on the list of worst nightmares in the home, particularly if the problem can be traced back to your own bathroom.
Around 400 blockages are reported in Bournemouth every year. Wessex Water say that many of these could be prevented if so called ‘flushable’ wet wipes were removed from the drains and sewers.
Luke Beattie, from Wessex Water, has seen the damage wet wipes can cause when flushed down the lavatory. He said: “They are marketed as flushable but that just means they will go round the u-bend, but often we find they don’t break down and cause blockages.”
Four skips per week are sent from the Holdenhurst Treatment Works to landfill sites, and Wessex Water is urging residents to tell neighbours and relatives not to flush wet wipes.
Try your hand at Mini-Golf on Boscombe Pier
Britain’s first pier mini golf that feeds the fish too We’ve recently launched a new mini golf facility at the end of Boscombe Pier, with golf balls that feed the fish.
The 18 hole course uses an ecological and biodegradable golf ball that contains fish food in its core. When the player gets to the last hole the ball goes into the sea and feeds the fish. Councillor Lawrence Williams, Cabinet Member for Tourism, Leisure and the Arts, said: “We’re constantly looking to improve the seafront offer for our visitors and this is something that they can have fun with whilst also helping to improve the marine environment here at Boscombe Beach. I can’t wait to try it.” The Mini Golf is open on Boscombe Pier from 10am to 6pm daily and the prices are: £4 adults, £3 under 16s and £12 for families (up to two adults, three children).

With more cranes still rising up in the town centre landscape, Bournemouth’s rejuvenation continues to take shape. In fact, there’s around £50 million of public and private sector investment work currently underway. Recently finished projects have helped provide housing for firsttime buyers, student accommodation, new hotels and public parking spaces. These include the Hilton developments, The Citrus Building, Madeira Road multi-storey car park, and buildings for the Arts University Bournemouth.
A private developer is due to finish its new leisure scheme at Exeter Road this autumn. It will feature cinemas, shops and restaurants. Meanwhile, the Town Centre Vision work takes another step forward with a number of developments being delivered through The Bournemouth Development Company (BDC), which is our 50/50 partnership with Morgan Sindall Investments.

Here’s a round-up of some of our new projects underway:
Berry Court – quality homes and public car parking Councillors have given the go ahead to enter into an agreement with a private rented sector operator to offer high quality accommodation at Berry Court. It is planned to develop 113 flats and a multi-storey public car park at the site. This means that the new homes will be put into the private rental market to improve the quality of rented flats in Bournemouth. The development at Berry Court will include fully replacing the 155 space public car park, meaning no car parking spaces will be lost.
As part of the agreement Bournemouth Development Company will build the new homes and car park funded by the private rental sector operator who will own the flats and return the car park to council-ownership.
Durley Road
Plans to develop new homes at Durley Road car park are currently underway. The scheme involves a block of 40 apartments for sale plus residents’ parking. A planning application for the development will be submitted in July.
Pavilion Gardens Bournemouth’s cultural quarter
We’re currently exploring plans to create a cultural quarter at one of Bournemouth’s most prominent town centre locations. Bath Road North car park is one of the most important sites within the Town Centre Vision sitting prominently alongside the Pavilion, with dramatic views of the seafront and Purbeck Hills. Planning for the site is in the early stages and we are looking at the development potential of the area of land to the side of the Pavilion Theatre. Any development will create the opportunity to redefine this key destination.
Councillor John Beesley, Leader of the Council, said: “The Council’s approach to the development at Bath Road North car park will be thorough and considered. We are in the early stages of planning and any development will need to be of high architectural quality, respecting the views of the Purbeck Hills, enhancing the neighbouring Pavilion and creating a strong and positive visual identity for Bournemouth.”

See the bigger picture Reshaping your council: have your say This summer, all councils in Dorset will be asking residents across the county for their views on proposals to change local government structures. Here’s your essential guide to why change is necessary, the options being considered and how you can have your say. Why change?
The government is providing opportunities for more power to be devolved to local areas. It wants to see reforms that enable councils to carry on delivering good quality services whilst also promoting local economic growth. To be given more control over local decision-making and better access to funds to follow-through on these decisions, the government requires councils to modernise.
Added to this, it is not financially sustainable for councils to carry on as they are. All councils in Dorset are facing unprecedented financial pressures. Across the nine Dorset councils we will lose £100million in government grant funding by 2020, while demand for services is rising. Before long, nearly all local government money will be spent on social care, meaning very little available for anything other than basic statutory services.
So what are the proposals?
Across Dorset, there are town and parish councils, district and borough councils, unitary councils (including Bournemouth) and a county council. These structures are expensive and inefficient and do not meet the needs of a modern, thriving county.

reform in Dorset. This could include replacing the nine different councils that exist now with fewer unitary councils, most likely two. We think this offers the opportunity to get rid of existing complicated structures and to reduce costs by cutting out duplication and becoming even more efficient.
What are the options?
At the time of going to print, all nine Dorset councils were in the process of agreeing the options, ready for public consultation. This public consultation starts in summer, and is being conducted by an independent research company. You can find out more about the options on our website at: bournemouth.gov.uk/ReshapingYourCouncil At this stage, our preferred approach is for one new ‘South East Dorset’ urban unitary council delivering all local government services in Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and the area currently covered by East Dorset District Council, along with a second new unitary council delivering all local government services across the rural part of Dorset. We think that delivering services and planning for the needs of the whole of the conurbation makes the most sense and will bring the greatest benefits to all the people living in that area. We also believe that the knock-on effects of a thriving, joined-up council, will benefit the wider county, which has very different needs to the rural communities living there.

How people live and work isn’t defined by council boundaries. Our thriving county includes a residential hub and economy made up of the Port of Poole, Bournemouth International Airport, two universities and many thriving industrial companies and business parks as well as rural businesses and homes.
Just two unitary councils focusing on the needs of residents and businesses will remove artificial boundaries that existing council structures create. Having fewer councils that respond better to the area’s characteristics will not only save money and deliver better value, but will also create opportunities to maintain and improve services for local people. Councillor John Beesley, Leader of the Council, said: “Whilst Bournemouth has a preferred option no decisions have yet been made. We want to hear what our residents like and don’t like and fully understand any concerns. Once these views are known all councils will work together on a final proposal.”

How can I have my say?
All Dorset councils are working together to seek the views of residents, businesses and others. This will help us better understand your views, draw out any concerns and know more about the potential effects on local people. Public engagement will start this summer.
Planning housing for the area
You may be randomly selected by an independent research company to have a say by completing a survey. This will ask you what you think about the area, what is important to you about local government and its services, and what the impacts – good or bad – might be for each of the options. If you are not selected, you can still take part. The survey will also be available online, with copies available in local libraries for those who want to have their say.

Developing a world-class seafront

From the traditional ‘bungalow’ to brightly coloured huts and funky pods. Bournemouth’s iconic beach huts are loved by both locals and visitors alike. And from this autumn, work to build the town’s first ever overnight stay huts at Manor Steps (Boscombe) will begin. Overnight stay huts coming to Manor Steps
The 15 new overnight stay huts will offer high quality selfcatering accommodation for up to six people, over two floors. Complete with French doors opening onto a private decking area, these huts will feature an internal shower, a toilet and a kitchen unit with an electric hob, fridge and microwave. Huts will also have wifi. Facilities in the wider Manor Steps area will also be improved. We will build a new catering kiosk, introduce lighting to the zigzag and provide a small, seasonally staffed Beach Office. We have already refurbished the nearby public toilets.
Super huts arrive in Southbourne
Meanwhile, over in Southbourne 21 new ‘super huts’ have been built. At 4.3m x 2.3m, the super huts are larger than traditional huts and are similar in style to the popular super huts at Alum Chine.

The investment is part of our Seafront Strategy, a long term plan to develop a world-class seafront that will enhance the natural assets of the coastline and create public spaces and facilities to inspire new generations of visitors.
Councillor Lawrence Williams, Cabinet Member for Tourism, Leisure and the Arts, said: “I am delighted that we are able to progress with this exciting new development on Bournemouth’s seafront. The new overnight stay beach huts will be the first of its kind in Bournemouth and will be perfect for those who are eager to stay at a stunning seafront location.”
Work to create the new huts and the wider improvements are planned to start in September and are expected to finish in spring 2017. We will continue to work closely with beach hut tenants in the area to minimise any disruption.
The overnight stay huts will be designed and built by a local company and will be available for visitors to hire on a short term rental basis all year round.

Bournemouth built the UK’s first municipal beach huts, or bungalows as they were then called, in 1909. A blue plaque commemorates the site of the first hut. In 2011 we introduced accessible beach huts at Boscombe. Today, over two hundred and fifty beach huts are available for weekly, daily and period hire along Bournemouth’s seven mile stretch of beach.

Keeping our town and seafront litter free
Be a hero and help keep our town clean Beach cleaning stations now located at the seafront
With summer on the way we’re all likely to spend more time out and about. There’s nothing worse than seeing litter in our public spaces, ruining the environment and posing a hazard to animals and wildlife. Hundreds of litter bins are provided all across the borough and emptied on a regular basis. In the summer we rake the beaches by tractor every morning and manually litter pick the beach twice a day. Yet litter still has a nasty habit of lingering about. Local people are helping to fight back and a new beach initiative is helping visitors to do their bit too.
Join Bournemouth Litter Squad
We want to make litter picking in the community simple and fun for people of all ages. As part of our Green Goals project with AFC Bournemouth, we have launched the Bournemouth Litter Squad and have litter pick starter kits to hand out.
Kits are designed for anyone who lives or works in Bournemouth and can be used to pick up litter in your area as often as you like. Each kit includes gloves, a high-visibility vest, a litter picker and black bags. So far we have over 170 community volunteers from 17 organisations litter picking across the borough.

Four new beach cleaning stations have been unveiled along Bournemouth beach to encourage beachgoers to help keep our coast litter free. The idea is that you can borrow a litter picker and bag from the station, spend a couple of minutes collecting litter, then share your efforts on Twitter or Instagram using #2minutebeachclean #Dorset.
Stations are available on the promenade every day and are kept stocked up by our Seafront team. #2minutebeachclean participants are encouraged to dispose of their collected litter in the existing public litter bins on or near the beach.

The Power of flowers Many of us spend endless hours nurturing our plants, tending our gardens, patios or hanging baskets. Horticulture has the power to help make our lives greener, healthier and happier. Even if you don’t have your own garden, just take a look at your local green spaces and other recreational areas to enjoy. Shrubs, trees and flowers add visual interest and bring benefits to our health and wellbeing.
RHS Britain in Bloom is a nationwide community gardening campaign to transform areas and it helps people to improve their local environment. Local groups participate in the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ campaign each year, focusing on community action to transform spaces.
Bournemouth in Bloom has been running for over 30 years and has achieved great success in local, regional and national competitions. Individual residents, businesses and ‘In Bloom’ local areas participate with their creations. Plus, there’s South and South East (SSE) in Bloom judged in July. We won gold in the coastal town category last year and have been selected to take part in this year’s RHS Britain in Bloom national competition.
Bournemouth’s environment is important to all of us and huge efforts from individuals, groups and communities are helping to maintain and transform even the smallest of verges to the largest of natural open spaces.

King’s Park Nursery – open for the summer season
Calling all keen gardeners, don’t forget to come and browse the great range of plants and shrubs at King’s Park Nursery. There’s even a new loyalty card scheme to give customers some great savings. The nursery is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm and is located in King’s Park – access via Christchurch Road entrance.

Have you signed up for the Garden Waste Scheme?
Did you know that we’ve had 18,500 registrations for paid garden waste collections so far? As a result, we’ve collected over 1,160 tonnes of garden waste from February to May. If you haven’t signed up yet, there’s still plenty of time to make the most of the scheme. Collections run until 16 December and the fee is £35 (or a £50 collection fee for two bins).

This year’s military nominated charities are the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and the Jon Egging Trust. FOUR DAYS OF THE RED ARROWS
The awesome Red Arrows have displayed 26 times since 2008 and this year the team will be flying on all four days. Squadron Leader David Montenegro, Red 1, said: “There’s always a phenomenal response from everyone at the Air Festival. We’re really looking forward to seeing another packed seafront and displaying to hundreds of thousands of people, see you all in August!”

We’re offering a fantastic free activity at Bournemouth Libraries for children aged five to 12 during the summer holidays.
This year’s Summer Reading Challenge The Big Friendly Read - celebrates 100 years of Roald Dahl’s popular stories. Every child who signs up will be given an awesome collector folder. As they take part in the challenge to read six library books, they will receive collector cards to complete their folder.
There will be other rewards to collect and a medal for all who finish the challenge. Bournemouth Libraries also need young people aged 13 to 24 to volunteer to help us run The Big Friendly Read. Could you or someone you know help?

Cashless parking - are you registered?
‘Getting About’ smartcard now available A new Getting About card has been introduced and it’s the smarter way for bus users to travel around Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch.
The Getting About smartcard costs just £5 for adults and £3 for children and provides a handy way to buy your one-day unlimited travel on local buses.
You can use the card as often as you need for one day’s travel on Yellow Buses, More Bus and First buses within the valid area of the three towns. You will need to get a smartcard before you travel which is available from: The travel information office at Bournemouth Station (underneath Asda) Yellow Buses enquiry office, Avenue Road
More Bus enquiry office – Poole Bus station.
Once you have your card with at least one day’s travel added, you can then start using it and can top it up on the bus for further trips. Old style Getting About paper tickets are still available to buy from bus drivers at a cost of £5.80 (adults) and £3.60 (children).

Changes to cashless parking
Residents, shoppers and visitors parking in Bournemouth are reminded to register with the town’s new cashless parking provider, PayByPhone (not to be confused with the old provider ‘phoneandpay’). The cashless parking service, PayByPhone is easy to use and can be accessed online, via mobile app and by phone.
A key benefit of PayByPhone is that it lets you top up your parking session remotely. You can also choose to receive an alert on your phone when your parking session time is running low. You can then decide if you want to return to your car or top up quickly using the app or automated phone service. Last year, PayByPhone was one of the first apps to be available for the Apple Watch meaning PayByPhone users can check time remaining, and top up, with just a few taps to the wrist.

Cycle training to boost your confidence
Cycling is the perfect way to enjoy the local area whilst getting fit and boosting your wellbeing. We want to help you stay safe when you are travelling on your bike regardless of your age or experience. We offer free ‘Bikeability’ cycle training for ten to 15 year olds as well as separate sessions for adults (over 16s).
Bikeability is the modern day cycling proficiency. Sessions are currently free and take place at King’s Park Cycle Centre on most Saturdays and during most school holidays, from March to October. Each course takes two mornings or two afternoons to complete. There’s a range of sports available in your local park
Keeping healthy and active is good for our bodies and minds and it’s never too late to try a new sport. There are all kinds of activities happening across our parks and gardens throughout the year. For instance you can learn orienteering at Queen’s Park, cycle in the Velodrome or even play ping pong in the Lower Gardens as part of our new Ping! project with Table Tennis England. Our sports pitches, bowling greens, tennis courts and athletics centre are all available for hire by clubs, teams or individuals and there are many marked trails and pathways across our parks to discover. So, grab your kit and we’ll see you outside.
Cycling at Slades Farm
Did you know we have our own Velodrome, with access for all? Bournemouth Cycling Centre is an Olympic-sized 250m banked tarmac track at Slades Farm.
The centre is available for booking by all clubs, organisations and individuals. You do need to have a coach on site with you at all times, so booking is essential – whatever your level or ability. Give orienteering a go We’ve teamed up with Wessex Orienteering Club to encourage people to try this fun sport that’s suitable for all ages. You can walk, jog or run around a course with no set route. The aim being to navigate between fixed control points, marked on a unique orienteering map, in the quickest time by deciding the best route for you.
Local sessions start at 1:30pm and finish by 4pm, taking place at: • Queen’s Park on 17 July - meet at the play area next to the golf shop • Slades Farm on 27 August - meet at the fenced play area with the zip wire • Bournemouth Uni Urban on 17 September meet outside the Sport BU reception.
The cost is £6 adults and £3 for children including a map and electronic timing chip. Qualified coaches will be on hand to give help and advice before you start. You will need to wear suitable active clothing and footwear. For more information visit: wessex-oc.org

It’s a ping thing
Ping! is a free street table tennis project that takes place in towns and cities all over England. Bournemouth was selected as this year’s venue for the national launch of Ping!, which took place on 10 June.
Throughout the summer watch out for tables popping up all over our parks and gardens, giving you the opportunity to play ping pong for free. There’s no catch, just grab bats and a ball (at the side of tables) and play away. Some tables will eventually find permanent homes after the Ping! event. Bringing history to life Hengistbury Head is well-loved by locals as a place of leisure - to walk, take in the views and get close to nature. But did you know that Hengistbury Head is a Scheduled Ancient Monument? It’s also a great place to learn about how humans have used and shaped this exceptional landscape. Archaeological excavations have helped unlock the secrets of the past. The human occupation of Hengistbury Head started with nomadic hunters setting up temporary camps around 12,000 years ago. Following this a community of people settled there. And during the late Iron Age, it became an international trading centre and port with links to the continent. You too can discover more about our fascinating history by visiting the Archaeology Gallery at the Visitor Centre. We also bring history to life with events for all the family, run by volunteers. Meyrick Park hosts major event
We’re delighted to be working with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to bring back the much-loved weekend of outdoor concerts at Meyrick Park this August.
The weekend opens with a Classical Extravaganza on Friday 5 August featuring popular classical music including Ride of the Valkyries, Carmen, Star Wars and many more.
Saturday 6 August sees the return of the famous ABBA Symphonic Spectacular, with a quartet of singers conducted by Pete Harrison and backed by the BSO performing the endless number of evergreens by the pop superstars.
The Family Funday Sunday from midday on 7 August is filled with fun musical events including a Family Orchestra, a Big Sing, Inspiration Choir Southampton, and more. The day finishes with a show of lasers, lights and fireworks choreographed to a specially created soundtrack.

Helping those in need Our Housing team provides support and information
Being homeless or under threat of becoming homeless can be one of the most difficult and isolating experiences a person can go through. We recognise this as an issue in Bournemouth, as it is in most towns and cities across the UK, and have support services in place ready to help those in need. Homelessness comes in a number of different forms and there are a number of reasons why people find themselves in this situation. It could be that someone is staying with friends or family on an ad hoc basis, squatting or in other insecure accommodation. But the most severe and visible form of homelessness is rough sleeping.
What we are doing to prevent homelessness?
Each month we receive up to 1,000 queries from people who are homeless or threatened with becoming homeless. We encourage people to seek help early, so they can access the wide range of services we have available. We want to help people who are facing these difficulties and prevent their situation from deteriorating.
Councillor Robert Lawton, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: ”Nobody likes to think of someone sleeping rough and we actively encourage people in this situation to talk to us and access support. We fund a rough sleeper outreach team and provide around 200 hostel bed spaces. Meet Dave
Dave fell on hard times and was struggling to cope with his alcoholism. Dave joined the army at 17 and fell into a drinking culture, which also continued after he left and was working in other jobs. His marriage ended and subsequent relationships broke down. Dave’s drinking escalated and alcohol began to take over his life. He stopped working, lost his home and was in and out of hostels and sleeping rough. We reached out to him and arranged for a bed in a detox unit. He was there for two years, learning new skills and is now volunteering at the night shelter.
Dave said: “I am two years clean and this is because I have structure to my day. I don’t know what I would have done without the encouragement of the outreach team, who made me feel I could keep trying. They never seemed to get fed up of my failures.”
How can you help?
We don’t encourage you to provide food, money or bedding to people sleeping rough. This is because it can sustain someone in a harmful situation. Instead, why not donate money to established charities? If you know someone who’s at risk of being homeless encourage them to seek our help. Spotlight on democracy
A new Mayor for Bournemouth East Southbourne and Tuckton councillor, Eddie Coope, has become Bournemouth’s 104th Mayor. During his year in office he will be supporting and fundraising for a number of local charities. Eddie was born and bred locally and attended St Peter’s School in Southbourne. Before establishing his own landscaping business, he worked as a land surveyor and served in the Royal Artillery. He has long been involved with local issues and was elected as a councillor in 2007.
Councillor Coope said: “Representing the town is not only a great opportunity but also a privilege. I look forward to giving Bournemouth and my chosen charities 100 percent in what I expect to be a very challenging but enjoyable year.” The Mayor also acts as the chairperson at Full Council meetings and attends several hundred civic engagements each year, acting as an ambassador for the town.
