Here in Saumur, at Bouvet Ladubay, the “Indian Summer” doesn’t have the same connotations as for our English speaking cousins. For us, the Indian Summer is not a reference to climate, it’s something completely different, it’s the HARMONY developed over seven years with our Indian owner, United Spirits. The culture of Freedom, maintained by Dr Mallya and his group, is based on confidence and, of course, on the results that follow. So at the end of this first 7 year cycle we have managed to obtain what we were dreaming of. In this plan for the future there were objectives of not only quality but also quantity, the creation of a new winery to achieve these objectives, and the ability to self-finance. I have always thought that the greatest chefs don’t cook in a building’s cellar. It’s the same concept regarding wine: extremely modern and dynamic equipment and a little bit of talent are needed to make high-quality wines. After releasing to the press what we wished to do, from an external point of view, the plan looked dubious and for many people (professionals) unrealistic. But now, 5 years after opening
our new winery « Full Metal », our annual production has increased by 85%. With regards to quality, I can refer to the medals and awards received over the past 5 years: 150 of them can be added to 390 others already obtained since 1970, giving us a total of 540 medals and awards over the last 43 years. For me, that’s the INDIAN SUMMER, and it’s also a little bit of this radiant and peaceful atmosphere that every Bouvet Ladubay’s admirer finds when sharing a happy moment with friends by drinking a glass of Bouvet Brut.
