The Bozeman Daily Chronicle is back again with this year’s edition of the summer activity guide to help you get a head start on planning your kiddo’s summer moments. With yet another summer affected by the pandemic, many if not all of these camps are implementing COVID prevention protocols to keep campers safe this year. Many of these camps are also providing scholarships to keep costs down and kids actively engaged.

Getting outside is the easy part, but staying entertained? Not so much. The good news is that many of these camps allow participants to stay busy, anywhere from a couple of hours, to the whole day, or even weeks at a time thanks to the overnight camps being offered this year. If you’re eager to keep your kids busy and having fun this summer, this is the guide for you. There’s room for your children to attend science exploration camps or outdoor adventures. This year’s camps have something for everyone. Get your kids active with the many sports and dance camps offered, or showcase their artistic and creative talents with art, acting, and music camps! This guide will help you to navigate the best fi t for your little ones.

With children spending more and more time on their mobile devices and tablets, it is important now more than ever to spend more time outdoors.

According to Forbes magazine, a study conducted by the University of Columbia demonstrated that children who spend more time outdoors are more likely to “cherish and protect” nature when they become young adults. On average, kids spend about seven hours a day in front of a screen. Whether that’s a phone, tablet or computer it is time that could be better spent outdoors. The benefi ts of children spending more time outdoors are vast, from its

obvious health benefits to social skill building, it is imperative for children to spend more time outdoors to set them up for a successful future.

According to Harvard Health Publishing, exposure to sun and vitamin D are important for children to aid in bone development and give their immune system a boost. They also say that spending more time outdoors can be a great help to a child’s social and critical thinking skills. Utilizing those critical thinking skills can be accomplished at camp. Children will communicate and problem-solve with each other, unknowingly teaching themselves valuable life lessons they’ll utilize time and time again. In these interactions your child will be able to try new things and build a sense of confidence. Going to camp and attempting to make friends is a risk within itself for kids, without taking these small risks they’ll never be able to prove to themselves that they in fact can do it.

So, what better way to give your child a life lesson than allowing them time to be creative and socialize with other children at camp this summer? It’s important to let kids be kids. With our 2022 Summer Activity Guide we can help you to find the right fit for your little one to do exactly that, to let them be themselves and be a kid. Giving your child the gift of a summer camp experience will give them memories, stories, and valuable lessons they’ll keep forever.
