A Letter from the Executive Director Greetings Friends! I hope you are all doing well during these unprecedented times. We continue to be grateful for the doctors, nurses, police, fire, Village of Bolingbrook, and of course our own Bolingbrook Park District employees who have all been on the front lines during this COVID-19 period. Our Board of Commissioners and staff want to extend our gratitude and appreciation to you as well. We have heard positive feedback regarding programs and services we could offer during the quarantine. We appreciate your patience as continue to navigate through the State of Illinois Restore Illinois Plan. There is no greater joy than to hear laughter in our facilities, on our playgrounds, and people golfing, fishing, and swimming. Bolingbrook Park District has kept to our mission of providing worldclass parks and recreation services in a fiscally responsible manner to enhance the community’s quality of life throughout this challenging time. One example of this is our commitment to fiscal responsibility through the nearly $2 million reduction in operational and capital in 2020. At the same time, we are progressing forward with our referendum projects at the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex, lazy river island at Pelican Harbor, the pathway connection, and playgrounds. Our team is committed to this mission and the excellence it represents. These times have resulted in some new and creative programming throughout the spring and summer. This will continue into the fall. We invite you to visit our website to experience our new Digital Fall Program Guide. We will continue to evolve and meet your programming needs in this everchanging environment. Whatever your interests are, our team is prepared to continue to provide you with the world-class services you have come to know and enjoy. This has been an interesting 50th Anniversary for Bolingbrook Park District and the fun will continue as we head toward the holiday season. Happy Autumn everyone and thank you for your amazing support of our staff, our programs, and our services. Sincerely,
Ron Oestreich, Executive Director

participant safety HOW BOLINGBROOK PARK DISTRICT IS KEEPING YOU SAFE DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
We are so excited to welcome our community back to participate in programs. We want to see you safe, healthy and having fun! Therefore, we are taking the following steps to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19 among our participants and staff:
FACE COVERINGS REQUIRED
• • •
Everyone, 2 years and up must wear a face covering while in the facility. Children must be able to independently put on and remove face covering, as needed. Participants will be allowed to remove face coverings when their entire class has reported to their designated programs space and participants are spaced 6-feet or more apart.
MUST PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING
• •
• • •
Customers and personnel are required to wear a face covering and maintain a 6-foot distance from others. Fitness equipment at the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex will be placed with a minimum of 6-feet between equipment when a barrier cannot be used. Equipment where a barrier can be placed will have a minimum of 3-feet between equipment. Programs when needed will have one designated entrance and exit. Pelican Harbor Indoor Aquatic Park will have limited seating to accommodate swimmers only. The majority of lobby and facility seating has been removed from common areas.
ENHANCED CLEANING AND SAFETY PROCEDURES
• • • • • • •
Public restrooms: sinks, toilets, countertops, vanity mirrors and faucets in each facility will be cleaned and disinfected every 90 minutes. The Lifestyles Fitness Center equipment will be disinfected continuously. Programs will have a minimum of 15 minutes between classes to provide time to clean and disinfect. Please be sure to take home everything you bring. Water fountains will only be available via water bottle filler. Please come prepared with bottle filled before class begins. Hand sanitizer dispensers have been added throughout our buildings.
PERSONNEL & CUSTOMERS COMPLETING DAILY WELLNESS CHECKS
• • • •
Personnel and participants are expected to evaluate their health before coming to work or class. Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms will be asked to stay home and communicate absence. Personnel and participants must complete a wellness check questionnaire to ensure they are not experiencing COVID-like symptoms before starting class or using one of our facilities. Parents please escort your child to their classroom to complete and verify accurate daily wellness checks.
LIMIT GATHERING TIME IN COMMON AREAS
• • • • •
Participants are asked to come dressed and prepped for class. Please use the bathroom and wash your hands before leaving for home and entering class. Bring personal hand sanitizer with you to apply during class if needed. Please wait patiently for instructors to call your class into program spaces. All youth classes need parents or guardians to enter facility with participating child for drop off. Please remember, no curbside drop-off unless instructed by program personnel. 5

Open Spaces
Bolingbrook Park District maintains 50 park properties with a total of 1,106 acres. In addition, there are 183,224 square feet of facility and concession stand space district-wide.
Our team planted a total of 100 trees, 99 shrubs, 363 perennials, 4,966 native plants and plugs, and 7,653 annual plants. The plantings were possible due to the memorial tree program and replacement tree plan, the conversion of annual beds to perennial beds and being awarded grants from both Illinois American Water and ComEd Green Region. The team also treated close to 600 trees to reduce or eliminate Emerald Ash Borer.
Our Team
The business/finance department processed the following: 4,979 vendor invoices, 1,047 refunds, 3,764 daily cash receipts, 18,590 ACH billings, 13,057 payroll checks and direct deposits, and 861 W2 forms. Our customer care representatives answered a total of 73,533 incoming telephone calls and processed more than $2,700,000 in transactions. Bolingbrook Park District’s website had 204,617 unique visitors of which 20.85% were returning users. Financial sustainability is a strategic initiative the district has been focused on to protect the assets of the community. A key component of that is alternative revenue sources. The district saw an increase of $598,000 in grants and donations from 2018 to 2019. One of our most successful partnerships was renewed in 2019 with AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center Bolingbrook. This long-standing partnership has resulted in countless free programs and services for our community over the past 18 years. The partnership has brought Bolingbrook Park District nearly $360,000 since 2001.
2,050

Another key component of our financial sustainability initiative is to carefully monitor expenses. Both corporate expenses and programs/services expenses were held to only a 1% increase. This was accomplished without sacrificing quality for our residents. 11
