It’s all changed at the top for BPMA
In April of this year, having been with the British Pump Manufacturers Association for 25 years, Steve Schofield decided to retire as the Association’s CEO.

After 23 years in the industry, Steve joined the BPMA as its Technical Director, working alongside the then-CEO, Brian Huxley. Becoming actively involved in the creation of various international guides in areas such as variable speed pumps and system efficiency in Rotodynamic pumps. Over the years, he has worked closely with UK Government departments such as DEFRA, DECC and BEIS, on numerous initiatives, including the development and introduction of the Certified Pump Systems Auditor Scheme (CPSA).
His knowledge and expertise, particularly concerning pump system efficiency, have made him a highly sought-after participant in meetings and conferences the World over, during which he has tirelessly represented the interests of the pump manufacturing sector at national and international levels. In 2013, he was the natural choice for the role of CEO at the BPMA, and throughout his tenure has continued to engage both directly and indirectly with other trade bodies and organisations and has maintained a strong and influential involvement with Europump.
Following the retirement of Steve Schofield Wayne Rose has officially become the new Director and CEO of BPMA) Having previously spent 24 years in various management roles with Manchester-based Armstrong Fluid Technology. Wayne brings with him a wealth of pump industry experience and knowledge that will undoubtedly serve him well, as he helps to guide the BPMA and ensure the association continues to serve the interests and needs of its members.
Commenting on Wayne’s appointment, current BPMA President, and Managing Director at KSB, Dale Croker, said: “The BPMA Board and Council, are delighted to have secured the engagement of Wayne. Of course, we are enormously grateful to Steve Schofield for all that he achieved on our behalf, and we wish him a long and happy retirement. But we are equally happy to have Wayne on board, and we wish him every success as he helps to guide the BPMA through its next phase of development.”
On taking up his new role, Wayne Rose said: “Assuming the post of CEO of the BPMA is a real privilege. My entire career has been spent working with pumps, or their related systems, and throughout I have engaged heavily with the BPMA. I have seen first-hand what influence it has across the international arena and how that influence has served the commercial interests of its members whatever their specific pump type or related discipline. As such, I look forward to building on the great work carried out by my predecessor, and to further developing the support structure it provides to this most important of industry sectors.”
BPMA introduces New variable speed drive (VSD) training courses.
The British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA) –the organisation which represents the business interests of UK and Irish suppliers of liquid pumps and pump related equipment – has added 2 new courses to its training programme.
Addressing the increasingly important area of variable speed drives in pump systems, and to better meet the requirements of its members, the course was developed under the guidance of Gary Wilde, BPMA’s Technical Services Officer, with the help of a dedicated Working Group, comprising of WEG & Xylem UK. Pump systems are often operated inefficiently. The reasons will vary from process to process and application to application, but the constant outcome is the cost to industry through wasted energy, which runs into millions of pounds per year, and the cost to the environment through the generation of this wasted energy. A pump installation is often sized to cope with a maximum predicted flow, which, may never happen. This principle of over sizing is frequently used in Industry, which subsequently leads to wasted energy and damage to parts of the pump installation.
There are two one day courses:
Part 1: will cover an introduction of a VSD.
Part 2: will cover the advances features.
The first delivery of the course is scheduled for 19th of September 2023.
