I used to work for LinkedIn, and I believed in that platform; it does a lot of good. However, it is primarily focused on big business. I therefore created Glimpse Social, a free app for businesses and users, to safely connect our communities and help get feet in the door of minority-owned, underserved, and independent businesses, of which Queens celebrates many. Queens, one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the US, is one of my favorite areas in New York City; I love the close-knit neighborhoods boasting multiculturalism and inclusivity. It’s heart-breaking to see the over 1000 restaurants that were not able to keep their doors open due to the COVID pandemic. Glimpse Social can help Queens recuperate by bridging the gap between independent businesses, residents, and people passing through hoping to discover a cool new hotspot. Whether you’re looking for somewhere new to try out for dinner or the best deal on a haircut, you do not have to follow the crowds and visit the same big-name corporation, you can flip on Glimpse Social to explore the neighborhood, find something new, and support those businesses currently struggling to gain visibility. You can even follow your favorites so you never miss out on what’s going on. Each business gets a pin on the interactive Glimpse Social map, color-coded depending on category. Users download the app, browse, and click on the surrounding pins, from restaurants, cafes, beauty salons, gyms or even grocery stores to view exclusive content posted by the businesses. This content could be a simple advert, a photo of what’s going on that day or even a short video introducing the team, promoting an event, or offering special deals.
