The First Omen
In 1971, American novitiate Margaret Daino (Free) arrives in Rome at the Vizzardeli Orphanage as part of her training prior to taking her vows. There, she is introduced to the senior members of the church, including Cardinal Lawrence (Nighy), Father Gabriel (Barhom) and the Abbess, Sister Silva (Braga). Shortly after her arrival, Margaret attends a disco with her
roommate and fellow novitiate Luz (Caballero), where she encounters a mysterious man and blacks out. As she begins to experience increasingly disturbing sights and violent encounters, Margaret is warned by Father Brennan (Ineson) about a conspiracy within the church to restore faith by bringing about the birth of the Antichrist.

In 1936, Joe Rantz (Turner) is an engineering student struggling to afford his tuition fees at the University of Washington. Unemployed, he lives in his car, barely able to scrape together enough money for the bare necessities. After hearing from fellow struggling student Roger Morris (Strike) that the rowing team comes with a job and boarding, the two boys try out
and, despite not being rowers, make the junior varsity team. The team’s coach, Al Ulbrickson (Edgerton), is under pressure to beat their University of California, Berkeley, rival and make it to the 1936 Olympics. After Coach Ulbrickson takes a chance on the experienced but wilful Bobby Moch (Slattery), recruiting him as the team’s coxswain, UW’s eights rowing team proves themself a force to be reckoned with.

Former president Trump was found guilty last week [May 26 to June 1] on 34 counts of falsifying business records and faces up to four years in jail and a $5,000 fine. And I think I speak for all of us when I say, “You can waive the fine.”

“A Family Affair” (2024)
Exploring the ways in which we never truly stop “coming of age,” the multi-generational family comedy film “A Family Affair” premieres Friday, June 28, on Netflix. Zara Ford (Joey King, “We Were the Lucky Ones”) is the harried assistant to Chris Cole (Zac Efron, “The Iron Claw,” 2023), a conceited movie star and nightmare boss. When Zara’s mother, Brooke (Nicole Kidman, “Big Little Lies”), falls into a relationship with Chris, it puts Zara in a horribly awkward position. As the trio move through their lives, “they face the complications of love, sex and identity” (per Netflix). Directed by Richard LaGravenese (“The Divide”), “A Family Affair” is Carrie Solomon’s (“The Good Fight”) screenwriting debut. Kathy Bates (“The Great Lillian Hall,” 2024), Liza Koshy (“Players,” 2024), Sherry Cola (“Good Trouble”), Gissette Valentin (“The Walking Dead: World Beyond”) and Olivia Macklin (“The Young Pope”) round out the cast.
“That ‘90s Show” - Part 2
Back in Wisconsin for another summer in Point Place, “That ’90s Show” kicks off its second installment Thursday, June 27, on Netflix. Now set in 1996, this spinoff of “That ‘70s Show” finds Leia Forman (Callie Haverda, “Shut Eye”) back with her grandparents, Red (Kurtwood Smith, “RoboCop,” 1987) and Kitty (“The Ranch”). While Leia and Jay Kelso (Mace Coronel, “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn”) are excited to be back together after nine long months apart, tensions rise as secrets between Leia and Nate (Maxwell Acee Donovan, “Gabby Duran & The Unsittables”) threaten to tear the group apart. Will the summer of fun end before it can even get started?
“Owning Manhattan” - Season 1
After years on Bravo starring in both “Million Dollar Listing New York” and “Sell It Like Serhant,” real estate mogul Ryan Serhant makes his way to Netflix for the all-new reality series “Owning Manhattan,” which debuts Friday, June 28, on the streamer. Serhant and his real estate firm take center stage in this gripping reality show that explores the high-stakes world of New York City real estate. Over the course of eight episodes, Serhant and his team — made up of powerhouse real estate agents like Chloe, Genesis, Jeffrey and Jonathan — try to secure NYC’s most exclusive luxury listings from their competition. To motivate his team to greater success, Serhant adds some incentives to the proceedings, such as giving $10 million to the first agent to sell the most expensive apartment in the world.

“Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge” (2024)
Taking a deep dive into the non-stop life of cultural icon Diane von Furstenberg, the new feature-length documentary “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge” premieres Tuesday, June 25, on Hulu. Approaching the eve of her retrospective exhibition, which marks an incredible and distinguished 50-year career, the Belgian fashion designer looks back on her career, reflecting on “her pioneering path in a male-dominated realm,” in which she challenged the status quo “as an early visionary and influencer … with the bold inquiry, ‘Why can’t a woman do what a man does?’” (per Hulu).
“With resolute determination, [von Furstenberg] faced various challenges — she was a single woman balancing a career, raising two children and bravely confronting cancer. These hurdles didn’t stop her; instead, she embraced them and they fueled her mission to inspire women everywhere to pursue their lives with equal passion and purpose and design their own lives. DVF was born to be a woman in charge. And she was born to inspire other women to take charge of their lives” (Hulu). Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms. Marvel”) and Trish Dalton (“Student Athlete,” 2018), “Woman in Charge” is produced by Obaid-Chinoy, Fabiola Beracasa (“The First Monday in May,” 2016), Tracy Aftergood (“Helen Believe,” 2023) and Sean M. Stuart (“The Blue Angels,” 2024).
“The Invitation” (2022)
Inspired by Bram Stoker’s classic novel, “Dracula,” the Jessica M. Thompson (“The Light of the Moon,” 2017) directed film, “The Invitation” (2022), arrives on Hulu this Monday, June 24. Starring Nathalie Emmanuel (“Furious 7,” 2015) as struggling artist Evie, the film begins immediately following the tragic death of Evie’s mother, leaving the young woman struggling in both her career and her personal life, and desperate for answers. On a whim, Evie takes a DNA test to uncover more of her family’s history, and soon discovers a distant cousin living in England, Oliver Alexander (Hugh Skinner, “The Wipers Times,” 2013). Oliver invites Evie to come and meet her extended family, but the seemingly innocent trip turns dark when Evie begins to uncover the family’s dark and gothic secrets. Written by Blair Butler (“Polaroid,” 2019), “The Invitation” also stars Thomas Doherty (“Gossip Girl”), Sean Pertwee (“Equilibrium,” 2002), Carol Ann Crawford (“The Water Horse,” 2007), Alana Boden (“I Am Elizabeth Smart,” 2017), Stephanie Corneliussen (“Mr. Robot”), Courtney Taylor (“Abbott Elementary”) and Scott Alexander Young (“Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”).
“ZOMBIES: The Re-Animated Series”Season 1
First introduced in the Disney Channel Original Movie series, the “Zombies” crew makes their animated debut in “ZOMBIES: The Re-Animated Series,” coming to Disney+ this Saturday, June 29. “Every day is a surprise at Seabrook High—whether you’re a cheerleader, a zombie, a werewolf or even a vampire!,” says Disney. With Milo Manheim (“School Spirits”) and Meg Donnelly (“Legion of SuperHeroes,” 2023) returning as the voices of Zed and Addison, respectively, the new series will also see the return of many familiar faces, including Willa (Chandler Kinney, “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin”), Bucky (Trevor Tordjman, “Bunk’d”), Eliza (Kylee Russell, “Crushed,” 2022), Bree (Carla Jeffery, “Southland”) and A-Spen (Terry Hu, “The Girls on the Bus”), and will welcome newcomer Kahyun Kim (“Freaky Friday,” 2018) as the voice of the awkward and upbeat Dae, who is both a witch and an alchemist. Produced by Aliki Theofilopoulos (“Phineas And Ferb”) and Jack Ferraiolo (“Amphibia”), Season 1 of “ZOMBIES: The Re-Animated Series” will also feature brand-new songs in each and every episode, with the series’ soundtrack releasing a day before the show’s premiere, on Friday, June 28.

“My Lady Jane” - Season 1
Within the annals of history lies the story of Lady Jane Grey, who was crowned Queen of England for nine days in 1553 before being removed from the throne in favor of “Bloody Mary” Tudor, accused of treason and later beheaded. But now, series creator Gemma Burgess, author of the Brooklyn Girls trilogy, is turning history on its head and telling the story the way it should have happened in the new comedy “My Lady Jane,” making its debut on Prime Video Thursday, June 27. Set in an alternate fantasy Tudor universe, the series, based on the bestselling book by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows, is a radical retelling of English royal history. In this world, King Henry VIII’s son Edward (Jordan Peters, “Everything I Know About Love”) doesn’t die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey (portrayed by Emily Bader, “Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin,” 2021) is not beheaded and neither is her husband, Lord Guildford Dudley (Edward Bluemel, “Killing Eve”). But, the brilliant and headstrong Jane still finds herself crowned queen — and the target of a number of nefarious characters who are after both her crown and her head. But, this time, the damsel in distress is saving herself. Also starring in the series are Dominic Cooper (“Preacher”) as Lord Seymour; Anna Chancellor (“The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” 2005) as Jane’s mother, Lady Frances Grey; Rob Brydon (“The Trip”) as Lord Dudley, Guildford’s father; Jim Broadbent (“Iris,” 2001) as the Duke of Leicester, Jane’s uncle; Henry Ashton (“Outlander”) as Guildford’s brother, Stan; Isabella Brownson (“Napoleon,” 2023) and Robyn Betteridge (“The Wheel of Time”) as Jane’s sisters Katherine and Margaret; and Kate O’Flynn (“Bridget Jones’s Baby,” 2016) and Abbie Hern (“Enola Holmes 2,” 2022) portray the King’s sisters, Princess Mary and Princess Bess, respectively.
