Note: Dear parents and teachers, we would request you to go through our children’s magazines and encourage your children to read it as it is full of interesting things! We urge you to guide your children while reading the magazine as there are terms they might not recognize. We have used relatively strong words in some of the essays as it will help children develop a great vocabulary. There shouldn’t be any difficulty going through the pages as we have curated the edition keeping the children’s age group in mind. The magazine comes with a ‘word finder’ for terms that are not yet in children’s memory. We have also incorporated a ‘Did you know?’ section, for children to take interest in the topics! We hope you find the magazine interesting! Keep reading.

ANIMALS OUR FRIENDS! Guffy and Tuffy went to play

POEM

They were making castles of clay

“Our lives matter as you men But you kill us often

When Guffy heard the sound of a car And to him it was quite bizarre

Without any remorse, just out of greed Or when you find an exotic breed

A man came out with a raging gun An immediately the animals were on a run

We animals have feelings too, I guess you humans never knew

They ran about here and there, And to the animals it was quite unfair

We have kids and families and friends Let’s all make amends

Why the animals couldn’t save themselves Despite them being as cute as elves

To help and save each other from any danger, Let’s stay away from any stranger!”

Why would somebody want to murder them? And put them up on a wooden frame. Bizarre: Unusual Raging: Charging, aggressive Remorse: Sadness

POEM

WHERE DO WE BELONG?

Tony the turtle wanted to win the race, But he made a sad face,

He was swimming faster than all of them! All the creatures in the ocean he could name

Because he knew he was too slow And the world was going to know

He wasn’t slow at all this time And he realized it was a crime

Ellie the elf came up with a magic trick Which would make his friend too quick!

To not realize what he was made off He was a turtle, not a giraffe!

He pushed tony out of his nest And set him on a new quest

He wasn’t supposed to run, no doubt He was supposed to swim about!

To catch the prettiest fish in the sea And make him realize what he’s meant to be!

And swim to places far beyond his dream The thought of which made him gleam

As soon as Tony made the dive He saw his world come alive

But Tony thanked Ellie for his magic trick Because he was the world’s best maverick!

Every person requires an unique environment to thrive in.

PICTURE

STORY A Tourist visited Ladakh for a trip. This is a conversation between the tourist and his local driver named Jigmet.

Tourist: What do you plan on doing after the tourist season has ended? How will you earn money? Jigmet: I plan on going to Siachen. There I will join the army as a loader.

Tourist: You mean you’ll join the army as a Jawan? Jigmet: No. This is a contract job. I cannot join the army as I’m already past the age limit.

Tourist: How will you go there? Jigmet: First, I will travel 265kms to Siachen Base camp, where my medical check-up will be done to see if I am fit enough. Then if I pass, the army will issue uniforms, shoes, warm clothing, helmet, etc. After that, we’ll climb mountains for 15 days to reach Siachen as there is no motorable road. We’ll work there for 3 months. August 22

12

Tourist: What work will you do? Jigmet: I’ll work as a loader. I’ll carry the supplies airdropped in Siachen for the soldiers, from one chowki to another, on my back.

Tourist: Why doesn’t the army use any animals or vehicles for transporting? Jigmet: Siachen is a glacier, so usual vehicles will not work there and ice scooters make a lot of noise which attracts enemy attention and that can be dangerous. Animals cannot survive the cold as we are at an altitude of 18875 ft with -5O degrees C in winter. We go out quietly at night around 2 am and pick up loads and bring them back to the barracks. Tourist: Aren’t you scared of getting hurt? Jigmet: We get paid 18OOO rupees per month. Since all expenses are taken care of, we can save upto 5OOO rupees in these three months. I need the money for my family, especially my daughter’s education.

Jigmet: Many of my friends have died by falling into the vast crevasses, or due to frostbite. Some have even been shot down by enemy bullets. But it is all worth it because I get to serve the army and my country, which is the best reward of all. It makes me feel proud to be an Indian. 13

Kitty the cat was learning how to draw.

was afraid that Madame Whiskers would scold her for getting the feet wrong and everybody in the class would laugh at her. At last, she was forced to show her drawing. To her surprise, Madame Whiskers didn’t scold her. She smiled and told her that it was okay to make mistakes. She then taught her how to draw the frog’s feet correctly. Everyone in class admired Kitty’s drawing and nobody laughed.

Kitty’s teacher, Madame Whiskers asked Kitty to draw a frog and show it to the class. Kitty was initially excited as she loved to draw. But alas! Try as she might, she couldn’t draw the feet correctly. She was very disheartened and she began to cry. POEM

Taqwa Fatima

The tiny ant looked in the mirror one day,

And thought: “Why did I have to be this way?” “Why am I so meager, so small? Why couldn’t I be an elephant, big, mighty and tall?”

We are all unique in our own ways!

I carry rice, sugar and grains to eat… While the elephant plucks fruits standing on his mighty big feet! As she was complaining and crying about her misery, A big blue elephant listened to her story. “You know, little ant,” said the big blue elephant, “Behind every creation of God, a purpose is meant!” “I don’t have to carry around grains its true, But there are so many things I can’t pursue! An ant can carry 5O times its own body weight, And this is something written in their fate! “I didn’t think about it” said the teensy little ant, Let’s not focus on what we can’t!”

Misery: Discomfort and pain Teensy: Tiny
