Note: Dear parents and teachers, we would request you to go through our children’s magazines and encourage your children to read it as it is full of interesting things! We urge you to guide your children while reading the magazine as there are terms they might not recognize. We have used relatively strong words in some of the essays as it will help children develop a great vocabulary. There shouldn’t be any difficulty going through the pages as we have curated the edition keeping the children’s age group in mind. The magazine comes with a ‘word finder’ for terms that are not yet in children’s memory. We have also incorporated a ‘Did you know?’ section, for children to take interest in the topics! I hope you find the magazine interesting! Keep reading.

LIFE STORY Born on July 25, 192O, Rosalind Franklin was a pioneer in understanding the molecular structures of the RNA, coal and graphite. Even though some of her discoveries on RNA, coal and graphite were appreciated while she was alive, many of her contributions remain vastly unrecognized. Hence, she was dubbed as the ‘wronged heroine’ or ‘the dark lady of DNA’.
After earning her doctoral degree from the University of Cambridge, she became a much accomplished crystallographer in the coming years. It was only after she joined Kings College in London as a research associate; she took keen interest in the structure of the DNA.
at an event in Brussels, Belgium. Her team member Aaron Klug also went on to win a Nobel Prize in 1982 in chemistry. Apart from being a prodigious student which earned her various scholarships since the very beginning, it is believed that her experience in Kings College, London and in the world of science exposed her to the rampant sexism and misogyny that was prevalent in workspaces during her time. She was a great feminist of her time.
She passed away at the age of 37, in 1958, a day before she was about to unveil the structure of the tobacco mosaic virus
RNA stands for Ribonucleic Acid, and it is similar to DNA.

COVER STORY
The largest known star is called UY Scuti which is five billion times larger than our Sun! July 22
6
Don’t we all love stars and how they twinkle at night? But have you ever
wondered why stars twinkle and shine? Well, here is the answer! Stars exist millions and billions of kilometers away from our planet, also counted in light-years! Hence the light coming from them is very dim. That is probably the reason why we only see those massive gigantic stars as only small dots in the sky. As these stars exist in far away galaxies, we are not able to see them in their true sizes. However, just like our Sun, which is the closest star to us, other stars in the galaxies are equally big and bright. The stars are so bright that despite existing light-years away from us, we can still see them with our naked eyes! The nuclear reaction going on inside the stars makes this possible! During this nuclear reaction, hydrogen is converted to helium and x-rays are emitted from the stars all the time! These stars are basically huge balls of gases which constantly emit light! As the light from these stars travel through several layers of the atmosphere, the light gets refracted and we see them twinkling in the night sky!

This fuzzy animal, sometimes called the “common
raccoon,” to distinguish it from other species, is an animal that is native to North America. Raccoons eat both vegetables and meat. In fact, this naughty animal is known for its skillful attempts at stealing food from any place, from regular kitchens in houses to parks in the cities! Although raccoons love eating almost anything, some of their favorite food items are berries, fish, eggs, fruits, nuts and vegetables. Raccoons are also nocturnal which means they are active during the night because that is when they set out to get food, and they sleep during the day, getting cozy in dense forests with lush green trees. The most interesting thing about the raccoon is that it can run at a speed of 15 miles per hour! Moreover, raccoons are excellent swimmers, and they can also climb up trees effortlessly.

In this touching film, we see a little girl who visits a home for children holding a yellow umbrella, and meets a little boy, Joseph, whose greatest desire is to own a yellow umbrella. She finds out about Joseph’s heartbreaking past and doesn’t hesitate to give him the umbrella she owns.
Through Joseph’s story, we learn that he does not dwell in his past. Instead, goes on to set up his own umbrella shop and becomes the source of happiness for other kids. Kids who are less fortunate and needy. The little girl teaches us to be compassionate and empathetic towards others. The story asks us to be kind because we do not know about other people’s tough times. The language of kindness is the best language indeed!

Trutty searched for his friend everywhere but she couldn’t find him. The weather was becoming windy and all animals were running to save their lives, when Trutty saw her nest falling down from the tree. Devastated, Trutty perched herself on a low lying branch and started weeping when he saw Guffy returning with a lot of branches and twigs. Ellie started crying. All the animals heard his calls and gathered to help him. While Fleety the bird and Ruby the rabbit picked out the insects from his body, Tiggy the Tiger and Lory the Lion fought the crocodiles with utmost bravery! They finally got Ellie out of the swamp and saved his life. Ellie realized size didn’t define everything. Everybody was powerful in their own way and he immediately apologized.

WHY DO MOST TIGERS HAVE ORANGE COATS BUT SOME TIGERS HAVE WHITE COATS? Sighting a tiger in a forest is considered an achievement.
Their gigantic sizes and unique temper is enthralling. But do you know, what is even rarer? Sighting a White Tiger! Yes you heard me right! There are some tigers in the world that don’t come in their usual orange and black stripes, but come in a pristine white colour. Even though it’s hard to find a white tiger in the wild, you can find one in your local zoo. The
white Bengal tigers are majestic creatures which grow much larger and heavier than their orange counterparts! They even grow up faster! So why do some tigers have orange fur while a few have white fur? The white colour of the fur is caused due to the lack of the pigment ‘Pheomelanin’ also called the ‘Chinchilla Mutation’, which occurs once in about 1O,OOO births! For a White tiger to be born, both parents must carry this particular gene for their offspring to be white in colur! Their unique colouration, large size and their magnetic personalities have made white tigers a rare phenomenon! Wouldn’t it be great if we could all see the White Tiger?
The tiger population in the world is decreasing mainly due to poaching. Widespread action is being taken by governments across the world to preserve these beautiful animals.

Designing devices that can travel to space is challenging, but a rewarding task, and one such device that has proved to be extremely rewarding for mankind is a space shuttle called MUSTARD. The British ‘MUSTARD’, short for Multi-Unit Space Transport and Recovery Device, was a space shuttle first presented in 1962. This shuttle featured three piloted vehicles- one orbiter and two boosters. During the take off ascent, the two boosters would detach from the orbiter and glide back to Earth.
What’s breathtaking, though, is that this one-of-a-kind shuttle was capable of reaching air speeds five times the speed of sound! MUSTARD was designed as a fully reusable space transportation system which made it extraordinarily unique for its time and extremely valuable to mankind.
Ascent: Rising up or moving up through the air Breathtaking: Extremely exciting or beautiful, so as to take one’s breath away
Sound travels at the speed of 1225 kilometers per hour.

of Goldsville, was obsessed with her jewellery. She would often say, “I Princess Hera, am the Queen of all the Queens, I’ve got riches, nobody can ever imagine!” She also had two beautiful dogs who loved her dearly. spent nights and days looking for it but nobody could find it. Finally, one day, a great wizard told her that in order to get her necklace back; she would have to sacrifice two things! The princess instantaneously knew what she would sacrifice. She said, “Here are my two dogs, Athena and Hercules that I would like to sacrifice”! The wizard was surprised but he didn’t say anything. Next morning, she got her necklace back and she was happy. Gradually, she started feeling ill and there was nobody who could magically make her fit. She realized that, her dogs were her life, and sacrificing them for the necklace was the biggest mistake of her life. She learnt her lesson and spent her life feeding animals generously.
