Nelson Mandela International Day

There was once a boy named Nanouk, who lived in the northern highlands which was mostly covered with snow. Nanouk toiled very hard during the summer so that, come winter, he and his family could live cozily inside their tiny hut, and save themselves from the biting cold. He would collect berries, nuts, fish and even hunted meat of the wild animals in time. In the summer of 195O, he had a new neighbor called Philip. Philip played all day round and was very happy! Nanouk being experienced, warned Philip about the winters being deadly. Philip didn’t take Nanouk seriously. He played with his cattle, roamed around and went swimming in the rivers of the valley. When the winters approached, the nights became longer and the days shorter. The prices in the market got inflated and he couldn’t find anything to eat. The waters in the froze and he couldn’t even go fishing. Philip and his mother survived the winters with whatever little food they got from begging! Most of the times they were hungry and sick! It was the worst winter for Philip’s mom and him.

THE LAND OF BEAUTIFUL HORSES

Cappadocia, located in Turkey, literally translates to ‘the place with beautiful horses.’ As the name might suggest, people can take horseback rides to explore the dramatic landscape and can also set up tents in the high ridges. Cappadocia was declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO for its beauty. To enjoy a horse-ride, get a horse from a horse farm in Göreme, early in the morning. Horse rides enable travelers to enjoy the fantasy-like essence of the place. There are several journeys that can be undertaken from Göreme. Hills made out of volcanic eruptions of Mount Güllüdağ and Mount Hasan make for most of the landscape in the valley. Tourists set up their tents along these chimneys and enjoy the beautiful sunset. The tour can be made more memorable by sipping on teas brewed on wood fire. Tourists from across the globe flock to this place to relish the tea and other local delicacies. On clear nights, a bonfire is set up and tourists go stargazing. Musicians play harmonious melodies later in the evening, making the evening extremely memorable.

Cappadocia is one of the few places on Earth which has a series of underground cities.
