Designing devices that can travel to space is challenging, but a rewarding task, and one such device that has proved to be extremely rewarding for mankind is a space shuttle called MUSTARD. The British ‘MUSTARD’, short for Multi-Unit Space Transport and Recovery Device, was a space shuttle first presented in 1962. This shuttle featured three piloted vehicles- one orbiter and two boosters. During the take off ascent, the two boosters would detach from the orbiter and glide back to Earth.

What’s breathtaking, though, is that this one-of-a-kind shuttle was capable of reaching air speeds five times the speed of sound! MUSTARD was designed as a fully reusable space transportation system which made it extraordinarily unique for its time and extremely valuable to mankind. Ascent: Rising up or moving up through the air Breathtaking: Extremely exciting or beautiful, so as to take one’s breath away

Sound travels at the speed of 1225 kilometers per hour.
