owever, MLB teams play 162 games per season, and each game takes more than a couple of hours (at least). To the uninitiated, such an amount of time can seem unreasonable. However, there are other ways to make baseball enjoyable.

RADIO, ANYONE? Before the game of baseball was televised, fans listened to broadcasts on the radio. This medium takes one of baseball’s challenges – its length – and turns it into a special experience. Listening to a game on the radio also means that the listener can attend to other things while listening. For some, this can be a much better alternative than sitting to watch hundreds of games for hours on end.

T H E C AT C H E R ’ S M I T T Another challenge of following baseball is that the action is spread out over the whole field. It’s impossible to know what the right fielder is doing unless the camera focuses on them, at which point something else could be happening with the pitcher. However, one aspect is always on the screen, and that’s the catcher’s mitt. It’s the focal point of the game and studying how the catcher reacts to pitches can reveal a lot about the game’s strategy.
