OZARK MOUNTAIN

Christmas

As Ozark Mountain Christmas approaches, Branson turns into a winter wonderland with events, festivals and a blanket of holiday decor. Cheer and goodwill are in the air as the town becomes America’s Christmas Tree City. The miles of lights extending out of the heart of Branson act as a warm beacon to travelers across the nation. Once here, visitors will find decorations glowing from nearly every shop door while enjoying friendly smiles on every street. Branson is truly a magical place to be during the Christmas season. Not to brag, but Branson has received a few accolades. Named one of the best Christmas destinations in America by

NBC’s Today Show (Best Holiday Travel Deal); USA Today, A&E Network, Travel Channel and The Wall Street Journal. SHOWS It’s time for an Ozark Mountain Christmas, and Branson’s star performers are ready to share the holidays with you and your family in November and December. With dazzling, star-filled Christmas shows, many of Branson’s entertaining families celebrate the reason for the season in a variety of song and dance: The Baldknobbers to the Presleys, Osmonds, Lennons, Duttons, Haygoods, Bretts, Clay Cooper, Doug Gabriel, The Petersens, SIX and the Hughes. The Hughes Family Christmas show stars not only the four guys, but their entire family of close to 50 people. When you get them all on the stage, USA Today says they are “the world’s largest performing family.” And there’s so much more – Branson showcases the holiday’s finest talent. DRIVE-THROUGH LIGHT DISPLAYS LIGHTS OF JOY Branson’s Gift of Lights will be shining super LED bright this Christmas season

at the drive-through display. Hundreds of scenes will be featured at the Expressway Lane location, just off of Shepherd of the Hills Expressway near Sight & Sound. Open Nov. 1 - Jan. 1. LET THERE BE LIGHTS AT PROMISED LAND ZOO The zoo changes in November and December to become a sparkling winter wonderland by night! Come and enjoy the added holiday hours of 5-11 PM and explore Santa’s Safari Village as you drive your own car through the 2-mile drive-through lights display. With VIP admission you may also enjoy a magical Santa’s Safari tour through the Christmas lights from the comfort of a climate-controlled tour bus to meet and feed animals on the Safari. Promised Land Zoo has the largest drive-through lights display in the Ozarks and a Living Nativity with real live animals to pet and feed. SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS NORTH POLE ADVENTURE Celebrate the season of Christmas at Shepherd’s North Pole Adventure. This magical family walk-through experience takes you on a journey through thousands of twinkling lights, hot chocolate stands and artisan crafts. Visit Santa’s Workshop,

see the lights below from Inspiration Tower, Doc’s Toy Box and much more. Make it a new family tradition this Christmas season at the North Pole Adventure, only at Shepherd of the Hills. ADORATION PARADE The 72nd Annual Celebration will take place on the first Sunday in December at dusk. It is our chance to stop and reflect on the beauty of the Christmas story that still inspires people today. Branson celebrates keeping Christ in Christmas on this special night. No one is in the limelight and no particular organization is promoted, only an overwhelming outpouring of love from our community and celebration as we come together to honor the story of Jesus’ birth. AMERICA’S CHRISTMAS TREE CITY Many cities around the country have one impressive Christmas tree that is the center of their holiday celebrations. Branson, however, “America’s Christmas Tree City” has more than two dozen trees 25’ or taller. The Branson Christmas Coalition, working year-round to inspire, encourage and facilitate Christmas tree

displays throughout the area, put a special emphasis on “landmark trees” and the community responded like never before. The Track Family Fun Parks have constructed a tree made from 500 upcycled go-kart tires that is 25 feet tall. Branson has its first floating Christmas tree at the Paddlewheel restaurant on Lake Taneycomo at Branson Landing. Hiltons of Branson have added to their spectacular “Vintage” trees, made from repurposed wine bottles that debuted at their Convention Center property. And the new creative Christmas tree at Ripley’s Odditorium simply “must be seen” to be believed – it is covered with eyeballs!

trees 25’ and taller list, is the entire collection at Silver Dollar City, which is a Christmas tree category all its own. Silver Dollar City has five more lighted trees that are 40’ or taller. No surprise the theme park was voted the nation’s top holiday celebration by the readers of USA Today four years in a row. These amazing trees, and many, many more are aglow throughout Ozark Mountain Country this Christmas season. SILVER DOLLAR CITY

One of the tallest trees in Branson is located in front of Sight & Sound Theatre, on Shepherd of the Hills Expressway, and it’s both massive and spectacular. The 46’ tree has a 6’ star on top, more than 4,300 LED lights and 1,260 ornaments. It’s a definite selfie spot each season.

AN OLD TIME CHRISTMAS (November 2–December 30) One of the nation’s most acclaimed holiday festivals, An Old Time Christmas features the Christmas in Midtown Light Spectacular, Rudolph’s Holly Jolly™ Christmas Light Parade, a towering special effects Christmas tree, two Broadwaystyle Christmas productions and 6.5 million lights.

The area’s largest tree is the 80’ Christmas tree located in the park at Silver Dollar City with special effects that light up the City’s entire square in time with holiday music. In addition to those counted for the

With dozens of star-filled Christmas music shows, an Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City and a glittering array of drivethrough light displays, there’s more “yule” enjoy in Branson.

10 HELPFUL

Tips

T H E D U T TO N S

The Branson Convention & Visitors Bureau is your ticket to planning a successful reunion in Branson. These 10 tips have been developed to help in your planning process. Planning your reunion well in advance will give enough time to take care of all of the details. An activities timeline can be a helpful tool, ensuring your plans are in place. 1. DETERMINE THE PURPOSE If the reunion is to bring together people who have not seen each other for many years, the activities you plan may be quite different than those for a family whose members see each other more often.

PROMISED LAND ZOO

[48] Branson Convention & Visitors Bureau | ExploreBranson.com

2. DETERMINE ATTENDANCE AND SET THE DATE Dates for the reunion should be confirmed at least a year in advance to allow members to plan for vacation time and save money for the trip. Send out “Save The Date notifications. If people are traveling a considerable distance to attend, it is a good idea to take several days for the reunion, or at least a long

weekend. And remember, no date is going to be perfect for everyone, so develop a consensus. 3. DETERMINE BUDGET Determine costs incurred by the group (i.e., catering or group meals, facilities rental, postage, etc.) and divide among the participants. Some reunions charge a “registration fee” to cover incidentals. Make sure that you specify exactly what is and what isn’t included in the fee when you send out the invitations. You will want to set a due date in advance (a couple of months at least), for a percentage of the fee to be sent to you. This will also help solidify the guest list. Keep good records, keep in touch and stay within the set budget. 4. REUNION DESK: CALL THE CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU DESK 417-243-2117 The Leisure Group Sales staff offers a wealth of services to make your planning easy. One of the most valuable complimentary services is the opportunity for you to gain bids for lodging, dining, ticketing and planning services and more for your reunion. The CVB will help you prepare an RFP (Request For Proposal) and will send it to all properties that can handle your particular type of reunion. All you need to do is provide the information, then sit back and wait for the bids to come to you. Many other services and helpful hints are available at www.ExploreBranson. com (RFP form is located on page 47 in this planner). 5. SELECT LODGING AFTER RECEIVING RFP RESPONSES Branson has many great lodging and camping facilities available from valuepriced motels to lakefront resorts and luxury hotels. Many of the properties are open year-round, so you may be able to save money if traveling off-season. When booking your lodging, ask the reservationist if your group size qualifies for a group discount. Consider whether your reunion would like a hospitality room, banquet room, catered meals on-site and/ or a restaurant on-site or within walking distance. Upon making reservations, request a confirmation letter from the lodging property spelling out all the details to

avoid surprises. The letter should include dates, number of people, price per person, cancellation terms and any other pertinent details. Review it thoroughly before signing and discuss any questions right away. Feel free to contact the Branson Convention & Visitors Bureau if you have any questions. 6. SELECT COMMITTEES TO SHARE THE WORK Not only does this help spread the responsibilities, it also allows people to feel part of the effort. Some suggestions are: • Accommodations • Meals • Activities • One main event • Publicity within the group and invitations • Specialty items such as group T-shirts, memory books, a photographer, or other items 7. PLAN ITINERARY Plan activities members can enjoy together, while also allowing some “free time” for visiting and enjoying Branson’s surroundings. Branson offers many venues which are group friendly with activities such as lake cruises, theaters, dinner shows and outdoor adventures. Consult the listings in this planner and you’re sure to find something for everyone. You may want to plan an opening ceremony or do a casual meet-and-greet; it’s up to you. You’re sure to find the ideal location in Branson. 8. PLAN MEALS For your banquet, welcome reception, farewell brunch, or any group meal function, find out in advance about any special dietary requirements for anyone in your group. Branson offers a wide range of dining choices from fast food to fine dining. Buffets can be a great way to accommodate a variety of tastes. Determine how many meals you will eat together - which meals are “on your own” and which group meals can be included in the “registration fee.” Decide if the meals will be banquet, buffet, or reception style; a mixture of these options is usually a good idea. When making reservations at a restaurant for a large group, request a letter of confirmation that spells out the details and budget for gratuities. Be sure to have your guests notify you if they have

special dietary needs. You could include space for this in your registration form. Ask your chosen restaurant how they are able to meet these dietary requests. 9. NOTIFY ATTENDEES Once you have decided on an itinerary, it’s time to send out more detailed invitations. Do this well in advance (six months to a year) and also send a reminder several weeks before the occasion. Include dates, accommodations, a preliminary itinerary, contact person with phone number, all costs, payment procedure, directions and what clothing and equipment are appropriate. This internet link will take you to our website page with information about our year-round climate: www. ExploreBranson.com/about/weather 10. ENLIST ASSISTANCE Retain the committees throughout the event so that one person does not have to take care of all the details. Delegate tasks before the event: set-up, cooking, clean-up, picture taking and other tasks. Depending on the complexity of your reunion, you may want to meet with the committees each morning to be sure all arrangements have been completed. As the event approaches, remember to always be prepared. Have a contingency plan for inclement weather; provide extra sunscreen, simple first aid materials, snacks and other needs. Most importantly, reunions are for everyone to enjoy, and the Branson Convention & Visitors Bureau can help you do just that.

REUNION PLANNING CHECKLIST o Survey Guests – 1-2 years in advance o Pick a Date – 1 year in advance o Create a Budget – 1 year in advance o Make Reservations – 1 year in advance o Set Itinerary – 1 year in advance o Send Invitations – 1 year in advance o Assign Tasks – 6 months in advance o Deposits Due – 3 months in advance o Send Itinerary – 3 weeks in advance o Send Thank Yous – 1 week after

Pack up and plan a getaway any season of the year in one of Branson’s familyoriented RV Parks and Campgrounds. Enjoy the convenience of Wi-Fi and Internet access at most facilities to help you keep up with emails to family and friends. Most facilities are very petfriendly. Several are Good Sam awardwinners and are often featured in Trailer Life magazine. Branson is the place to spend quality time together with the comforts of a full-service 20/30/50-amp RV site or to unplug and reconnect with your family near one of our beautiful lakes. Branson has three pristine lakes with hundreds of miles of natural shoreline and more than 100,000 acres of city, state, federal and privately-owned forest,

conservation, wildlife and wilderness and park areas available to visitors. Most of the area’s RV parks and campground sites are located on, or just minutes away, from Lake Taneycomo and Table Rock Lake and are close to nearby Branson shows, restaurants and attractions. For a complete list of RV Parks and Campgrounds, visit ExploreBranson. com or call the Branson CVB at 417243-2105. On our website you will also find information on water sports, fishing, golfing, mountain biking, hiking and backpacking, camping, resorts, scenic drives, public and private parks and wilderness areas, sporting events, shooting facilities and maps.
