The Impact

The demand from tournament organizers and local residents for athletic facilities in Branson continues to grow. Currently the Branson RecPlex cannot accommodate new requests to host & ACTIONS STRATEGIES tournaments due to a lack of facilities. Action 1.2.1 Expand and adapt the parks

and indoor/outdoor recreational offerings to continue to serve the local and regional community as well as to meet projected demand.

Continue to promote and expand recreational amenities to maintain outdoor recreation as a key destination driver for all ages.

Continue to recognize the Park Boardʼs role and recommendations.

Continue partnerships with local public agencies and private entities in the area to assure all opportunities are being capitalized upon.

Expand and adapt the parks and indoor/outdoor recreational offerings to continue to serve the local and regional community as well as to meet projected demand.

Explore public-private partnership opportunities for additional ball fields and indoor basketball courts at the Branson RecPlex.

▫ Action 1.2.3

Continue to review and implement non-resident service fees for out-of-town RecPlex users to sustain the Cityʼs Parks and Recreation Departmentʼs ability to provide such amenities for the region.

POS Strategy 1.3 Provide sufficient park land within the City to continue to meet existing and future resident needs. ▫ Action 1.3.1

Develop a Master Plan to evaluate existing parks and facilities, and to identify future needs. The inventory will specifically evaluate each parkʼs type, location and amenities provided. Additionally, the plan will provide recommendations for funding and maintenance needs.

Key Finding ▫ Action 1.3.2

Update regulations that require a minimum percentage of land be dedicated to usable open space in each new residential and non-residential development. Clearly define the term usable in the amended strategy.

▫ Action 1.3.3

Implement minimum park requirements, a factor of the number of new residences added, for new residential developments or require a cash-inlieu payment.

▫ Action 1.3.4

Increase the number of neighborhood parks in residential areas that are currently underserved (i.e. southwest portion of the City).

Facilities / Venues Branson RecPlex Direct visitor spending to the community from RecPlex tournaments has more than tripled from $5.1 million in 2008 to $15.3 million in 2016. The Branson Parks & Recreation Department strives to serve both local and visitor population as related to athletic opportunities and events.

Branson Convention Center Branson Convention Center hosts a number of different sporting events that return with new athletes, families and friends each year including, but not limited to, Futsal (indoor soccer), cheer and dance, gymnastics, basketball, and MMA Fights. New for 2017: March 24-26, Missouri National Archery in Schools Program Tournament Estimated archers = 2,000+ Family & Friends (average 2.3 per party). Estimated Direct Visitor Spending = $462,000+

Ballparks of America Ballparks of America’s multi-million dollar youth baseball tournament complex, with five replica fields and team suites completed in 2016, allows for new visitors to the Branson area to attend 10U-13U youth baseball weeklong tournaments. New for 2017: Dixie Youth Baseball joins YBN National Championship. August 15-19, the Youth Baseball Network will be conducting its 3rd YBN National Championship in Branson. This prestigious, invitational ‘Tournament of Champions’ features the 12U World Series Champions from 7 major youth baseball organizations throughout the United States, plus a host team from Missouri. August 3-10, Babe Ruth Leagues’ Cal Ripken Major/70 World Series 16 teams from throughout the entire United States, plus international teams. To date, Japan and New Zealand are committed! Golf Area golf courses are consistently recognized among the best courses by Golfweek, 417, Golf Digest, Golf Advisor, and USA Today.

Lakes Table Rock State Park and State Park Marina hosted the Costa FLW Series Championship including anglers from the U.S. FLW Series divisions, plus Canada, China, Mexico and South Korea. Visitors were in town for an average of 6.6 nights. Estimated Direct Visitor Spending = $425,000+

Sports tourism provides more than direct visitor spending from travelers and event organizers. Dollars spent here are reinvested in the community and benefit area businesses and residents. These events also result in marketing and public relations efforts that showcase our city’s support for our community heroes, those serving our country and around the world!

UPCOMING EVENTS: Benefit The Badge, Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge Regional competition, with our eyes on hosting the World Championship in 2020.
