COMMON RAIL ACCUMULATOR INJECTION SYSTEM The CR Injection system consists of a rate-regulated highpressure pump that can apply very high fuel pressure (max.1600 bar) to an accumulator “rail�. The rail supplies this pressure to the injector for finely atomised injection. The major feature of the CR system is the provision of pressure generation and injection from the rail. This time-controlled injection system overcomes the typical limitation of conventional cam-controlled systems. The increased injection pressure and the injection instant are largely independent of the engine operating point. The rate-regulated high-pressure pump CP3.4, fed from a flanged on backing plate, conveys diesel fuel into the rail until the required pressure is reached. This pressure accumulator is connected by hydraulic lines to the solenoid-controlled injectors, which inject a defined amount of the fuel into the combustion chambers of the engine. The time and duration of injections are determined via electronically triggered solenoid valves by the EDC control unit. This system allows multiple injections with, Pre, Main and Post injections. Up to five (5) injections per power stroke is possible resulting in cleaner combustion, more torque and less fuel consumption. This is the basis for a combustion process that achieves optimum figures in terms of exhaust emissions and acoustics.
EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) D2876 LF 12/13 Euro 3 engines are fitted with externally regulated exhaust gas recirculation for operating economies, high-energy utilization and low fuel consumption. In EGR, part of the burnt gases is recirculated to the cylinder filling (approximately 13%). This produces lower combustion temperatures and fewer Nox emissions. Fuel consumption can be reduced by appropriate matching of the commencement of injection. In the EGR cooler the exhaust gas is cooled by water from approximately 700oC down to less than 200oC.
