CUSTOMER EXPERIENCES

Isuzus provide a solid foundation for Budget Concrete Pumping Budget Concrete pumping commenced operations with one Isuzu truck in 1987 and since then their Isuzu fleet has grown to eight in line with the company’s expansion. Their latest model, an NPR 400 was delivered earlier this year. The company specialises in pumping concrete for the domestic market for a multitude of applications including house slabs, concrete stumps, driveways, paving and swimming pools. The company covers the entire Melbourne metropolitan market and all but one of the trucks is fitted with Isuzu’s popular Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) which has proven very popular with drivers.

Owner Steve McDermott finds the NPRs ideally suited to his requirements. “Their ability to carry specialised pumping equipment coupled with their compact dimensions makes this model a winner. Its size allows me easy access to confined areas which would prove difficult for a larger truck,” Steve said. “I’m very happy with every aspect of our Isuzus” Steve added. “The way they drive and the reliability is just fantastic – they just keep going and going and going. Over the years I’ve recommended them to a lot of people.” Steve has been a long term Patterson Cheney customer and currently deals with sales

consultant Debra Hollingsworth and Service Manager Wayne Murphy. “All the Patterson Cheney staff are great – they know how to look after people. I’m very impressed with the service we get and it’s why we keep coming back, year after year.”

Steve has a policy of only servicing his trucks at Patterson Cheney, and takes advantage of the 24 hour service facility during the week. “I can drop a truck off at night and pick it up in the morning which really suits my business,” Steve added.

Powercor’s new MANs feature latest Nifty-Lift platforms

New MAN TGX 26.540 Euro 5 model released

Powercor is one of the state’s key electricity providers and looks after the entire Western half of Victoria – in a nutshell everything west of the Hume Highway right up to the border. They are also responsible for servicing almost a third of the Melbourne CBD. Powercor recently took delivery of 4 new MAN TGM 18.280 models fitted with a new type of lifting platform manufactured by Nifty-Lift. Important factors in Powercor’s decision to select this particular model are the MAN’s 4x4 drivetrain, their robust construction and not having to modify the wheelbase. Shane Myers, Fleet Manager at Powercor commented that the positive experience from both a reliability and driver appeal perspective with two other MAN’s purchased by Powercor about 18 months ago was also a deciding factor. Powercor selected the Nifty Lift platform for fitment to the MANs primarily due to the fact that these new platforms offer features unique to Nifty Lift and unavailable on other models at this point in time. The unit is extremely versatile with a strong emphasis on safety. The bucket can be rotated a full 270 degrees while the safe working load in the bucket is a substantial 360 kilograms. The fly boom also rotates 180 degrees for even more versatility. The trucks and platforms are used to reach high voltage lines – both during the construction process stage and for routine maintenance and repair. Once Powercor had placed the order for the MANs, Patterson Cheney Truck Centre and Nifty-Lift worked closely together to get the units completed, which happened over a period of time from August ’09 until delivery in April this year. Part of the delivery process was an operator group training session for both the trucks and the lifting mechanism in each of the four locations where the trucks are based; Ardeer, Ballarat, Horsham and Mildura.

We are pleased to announce that a new model has been added to the MAN range. The new Euro 5 compliant TGX 26.540 model pumps out an impressive 540 hp (402kW) and 1850 lb/ft (2500 Nm) of torque from the MAN D26 common-rail six cylinder engine – making this model the most powerful MAN available in Australia. MAN’s renowned fully automated ZF 12 speed overdrive transmission comes standard. For more information about this new model please talk to your nearest MAN Dealer.

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCES

Westar’s service levels a key factor in selection of Western Star Cahill Transport is a family owned and operated company that has been in the transport business now for an impressive fifty six years. Originally started by Joe Cahill with one truck, the company today is run by sons Dan and Michael Cahill who purchased the business from their father in 1989. Since then the company has enjoyed considerable success and steadily expanded – doubling in size in the last decade alone. The company now runs a fleet of around a hundred trucks carting general freight across the whole of Australia using a combination of rigids, semis and B-Doubles. They also specialise in the automotive sector carting ‘just in time’ automotive components for a leading automotive manufacturer through a subsidiary company, Cahill Automotive Logistics. Dan Cahill’s first association with Westar Trucks and Western Star occurred around 4 years ago and they now operate 7 Stars with another on the way. Driver reaction has been positive in all areas with one of the most common reports being how good the Stratosphere cabin space is. “When you’re driving all day (as I used to), to be able to stand up and stretch out after a long drive, that is a major, major plus,” Dan said. Whilst Cahills do a large amount of servicing in-house, they often need to send the trucks to Westar Footscray.

In Dan’s own words the service levels at Westar Footscray are ‘bloody fantastic!’ “Service means a lot to us – probably more than anything. Westar’s service times are good, parts availability is good. I really can’t speak highly enough of their service – it is really, really good,” Dan went onto say. “Let’s face it, time is money – if you’re off the road for any length of time it costs you a lot of money. Westar really understand this fact and deliver accordingly – others may say they understand this but in reality they don’t,” Dan added. Business is going well for Cahills and now that Caterpillar engines are no longer available in the market Dan believes he will be looking even more closely at Western Stars given the extensive range of Cummins and Detroit engines that are available.

ISUZU D-MAX

news

Running upgrades for D-Max A number of upgrades have been applied across the D-Max range including an automatic transmission option for the D-MAX SX mid-spec 4x4 and 4x2 crew utes, standard cruise control for all SX variants and a freshen up to the top selling LS crew utes. The D-MAX high-series LS-U 4x4 and LS 4x2 crew utes are the most changed in appearance with a new design chrome grille featuring a prominent central cross bar and sabre-tooth details plus new doublespoke alloy wheels. Inside all LS variants, the dash centre stack fascia and side air vent registers and surround panels all change to satin black with chrome trim rings from the prior silver finish. Cabin headlining adopts a cosy black, different from the continuing dark grey in other models. D-MAX’s stylish space cab upgrades to four seats from two with almost all of its considerable cabin storage space behind the front seats

preserved. Twin rear jump seats with multiple folding modes are added to the variant which continues as an SX 4x4 cab/chassis manual. Instrument and control lighting changes in all models to orange from blue while the silver bands around the main three dial faces change to a more up-market gunmetal. Speedometer graphics in all models change to 2km/h graduations from the previous 5km/h with more legible numerals, in a nod to increased speed limit enforcement. Similar improved graphics apply to the tachometer and odometers. In addition to the automatic transmission option for the SX mid spec 4x2 and 4x4 models and standard cruise control, all SX variants also gain five-speed intermittent wiper mode while silver hubcaps for the 16” drilled steel wheels replace black, for a smarter look. The availability of automatic in both 4x4 and 4x2 SX crew utes will fit the needs of many state and local governments as well as business and rental fleets. These updates will ensure that Isuzu D-Max retains its position as the best vale and best equipped ute on the market.

GROUP GROUP Our truck customers are familiar with the Isuzu, Western Star and MAN brands. But what many people don’t realise is just how many other leading automotive brands fall under the Patterson Cheney umbrella. In addition to the aforementioned truck brands, today you can look to Patterson Cheney for Honda, Holden, Toyota cars and recreational vehicles, Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars and Vans, Isuzu D-MAX, Honda motorcycles, as well as

Honda lawn, garden and power equipment products. And there are a couple of very good reasons why it’s worth talking to us if you’re in the market for any of the above brands. Firstly, because our buying power is so big, we can pass the savings on to you as well as offering you a great range of competitive finance packages. Secondly, you’ll experience the same great service that you’ve come to expect from any of our ‘other’ Dealerships – we didn’t get

this big without looking after our customers, no matter if they’re buying new, used, parts, service or finance. All our staff have an absolute commitment to customer satisfaction – they know what they’re talking about, so you can rely on their advice. So if you’re in the market for one of the brands above, your first stop should be to talk to your existing truck sales consultant who will point you in the right direction.

STOP PRESS New sales consultants We are pleased to welcome Scott Adams to Patterson Cheney Isuzu, Dandenong. Scott has held various roles in the truck industry including technical product support and cataloguing. His most recent role was selling truck spare parts which equipped him well for the move into sales earlier this year.

Also, a belated welcome to ‘Drew’ Halloran who we unfortunately forgot to mention when he joined Westar Trucks Campbellfield around two years ago. During the ensuing period Drew has cemented his position as the ‘MAN’ when it comes to knowing everything there is to know about the MAN truck range. Drew Halloran
