VOK-03

MAN front axles are supplied from high-volume commercial-vehicle series production and satisfy the most demanding standards. They are supplied as dropped-centre cranked axles for low-floor vehicles. Straight axle beams are also available, together with independently sprung axles for a high standard of bus and coach ride quality. The axle beams of double-T pattern for up to 9.2 t axle loads are forged from high-strength heat-treated steel. The beams of VOK-06-B, VOK-0... low-floor axles are cast, with a hollow centre profile. The wheel elements are attached by kingpin pivots, with a lower needle roller bearing and an upper plain bearing. The kingpins on axles with independent suspension have an upper needle roller bearing as well. An anti-friction thrust bearing is fitted. To withstand radial forces, high-quality tin-bronze plain bearings are used; axial loads are absorbed by hardened sliding blocks with an anti-friction bearing.

VO, VOK and VOS axles have maintenance-free wheel bearings (hub units). On these axles, brake discs can be changed without separating the bearings. VOK-06-B and VOK-07-B axles have been specially developed for low-floor buses and have a lowered axle beam. VOK-07-F and VOK-08-F axles are fort the American market and are 102“ wide; the VOK-07/08-F can be supplied with either drum or disc brakes. All brake linings are asbestos-free. The axles can be equipped with an anti-lock brake system (ABS). Only wheels and tyres approved by MAN are to be fitted. The delivery specification includes the brake cylinders. The brakes are air-operated.

Most of these axles are equipped with disc brakes (see table), automatic pad wear compensation and an electrical wear indicator.
