CHAMBER VIEW
Chamber View Operations Manager, Mark Hannigan brings you right up to date with the Chamber and its plans, hopes and expectations for the next few months.
Having completed the first quarter of the year, it appears to have been a very productive and positive period for both ourselves and our members. You will see in this edition we welcome two new Patrons, Steelphalt (Harsco) and the Sheffield Eagles. Thank you to Martin Gray from Steelphalt (Harsco) for his continued support and we wish Mark Aston and his team all the best for the rest of this season. It would be remiss of me not to mention another Patron at this point. Congratulations to Ben Mansford and all at Barnsley FC on reaching the Johnstones Paint Trophy Final at Wembley, by the time you read this article I hope we have a piece of silverware back in South Yorkshire. As you will no doubt have seen, we have now launched the 2016 Barnsley and Rotherham Business Awards. This year we will be returning to Rotherham with the ceremony taking place at Magna Science Adventure Centre on Friday 14th October and we are delighted that the RNN Group will be headline sponsor of this event. Award entries will be
open from the 6th June until late August and for the first time these will be open to any business with an ‘S’ postcode. These awards will again celebrate the best in business from our region and one company will take over the mantle of ‘Business of the Year’ from the current holders, Palmer Construction. Positive news spreads and I would encourage all businesses to have a look and enter, there is something for everyone. We have put a lot of thought into repackaging our membership offers for 2016 and these are being very well received. We have taken on board the comments from our members and have now got some unique offerings and opportunities which are only available to our members. If you would like any more information on these please feel free to contact me directly. From the recent membership survey we have received a number of comments about how
C H A M B E R
we communicate with members, specifically around the policy and representation work we undertake continuously on behalf of our members. We will be utilising the technology we have available to us and our members to send out more regular electronic newsletters to keep you regularly updated on member news, the work we undertake and the results. As always we appreciate the support of all our members and looking forward to working with you during the remainder of the year and beyond.

Rotherham United support ‘Visit Rotherham’ initiative Last year Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber launched Visit Rotherham as the official tourism brand for Rotherham, with its www.visitrotherham.com website. Due to the strength of this project, Rotherham United have kindly donated over 180ft in pitch board space to Visit Rotherham and have put their weight behind the project. The cost of the production of these boards has been covered by Chamber subsidiary, Rotherham Enterprise Agency. The boards are situated facing the visitor’s stand at the AESSEAL New York Stadium and were official unveiled by Commissioner Julie Kenny, Cllr. Denise Lelliott, Richard Staton, Chair of Rotherham Enterprise Agency, Mark Hannigan, Chamber Operations Manager and Rotherham United’s Paul Warne and Steve Coakley.
The clear message is to carry the Visit Rotherham brand and a number of facts and interesting points about the town. Wentworth Woodhouse, the Advanced Manufacturing Park, Guest & Chrimes history and some famous Rotherham characters all appear. The boards will be in place for the remainder of this season and all of next. Steve Coakley, Commercial Director at Rotherham United said; “It is important for us as a club to support this project. We attract numerous visitors to our town through away followings and we want them not only to visit
the AESSEAL New York Stadium, but stay and enjoy the great things Rotherham has to offer visitors” Mark Hannigan, Chamber Operations Manager commented; “To have the support of Rotherham United for Visit Rotherham is huge and the opportunity to get the brand exposure to the many people who follow their team is something only this unique opportunity can provide”

How the Internet has changed the Recruitment process Since its conception, the Internet has changed a lot of things over the past decade or two including how we search for jobs. Of course the basics tend to stay the same: Find the opportunity and apply. But it is fact that the internet has altered the recruitment process permanently. With the majority of people now looking online for their next job, businesses need to be where candidates are in order to engage them in the recruitment process and source the required talent. It is not just a case of putting a vacancy advert on your website and hoping that the right person will find it and apply. In today’s climate it is about online Job Boards and Job Sites. These are now purpose built marketplaces where job seekers can search for the perfect career opportunities. When people want to buy something, they go to a shop or a website where the item they want can be found for sale. They will specifically visit places where they have a higher probability of finding what they are looking for. Some of the larger and well know jobsites have up to 10 million active candidates currently searching their job listings and in the case one of in particular, over 800,000 of those are in Yorkshire and Humberside. But to advertise on these you are likely to pay a hefty premium, especially if you want a branded advert. It does, however, makes sense that if you are a company operating in South Yorkshire and you want to attract local applicants, that you have a fully branded advert on a job board aimed at reaching local people. The internet is making a huge impact on how people search for jobs, how businesses recruit and companies need to embrace this change if they want to engage and attract the right people for their business. With the demand for access to vacancies through mobile technology and the advent of Social Recruiting we are feeling the pressure on our often limited recruitment resources. Chamber Recruitment is a Job Board that has been specifically designed for companies in the South Yorkshire region to find staff based in South Yorkshire, Local Jobs for Local People.
Backed by our strong candidate attraction strategy worked in conjunction with our media partners, mobile platform and social media integration you’ll receive applications direct to your inbox giving you exclusive access to each candidate. You will also not pay a premium for this service!

EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
Businesses voice concerns to local MPs Once again the Chamber held its annual Rotherham MPs Breakfast Forum on 5th February with local businesses, following on from the Barnsley MPs Forum we held in the summer last year. Sir Kevin Barron MP, John Healey MP and European MP Linda McAvan joined us to discuss many topical business related issues. One of the key areas of discussion was around the EU Referendum now confirmed to be held on 23rd June. Clearly businesses of all shapes and sizes will all have a different experience and relationship with the European market, both from a skills and labour perspective and trade and regulation. There were just as many proponents of a UK within the European Union as there were those businesses who felt it wouldn’t impact at all their business if the UK was to leave the EU. Having Linda McAvan MEP present was very important and helped the meeting have an informed debate about these issues. Other issues which were discussed were around skills, transport infrastructure and regional devolution. The event was attended by over 40 businesses from Rotherham and was held at Hellaby Hall Hotel. We will again hold our Annual Barnsley MPs Forum sometime this summer.
EU referendum decision is about economy, not politics, says Chamber Businesses should think about maximising long term regional economic growth when making decisions about the EU Referendum, according to the leader of the Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce. Andrew Denniff, Chief Executive at the Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber, has spoken out following the launch of the Quarterly Economic Survey (QES), which focuses heavily on the EU Referendum and its impact on businesses.
The Quarterly Economic Survey Breakfast will feature economic arguments for and against Europe, relating these arguments to the local economy to give businesses a greater understanding of the decision as to which way they will vote.
His comments come as the Chambers announce they will hold a flagship event on 12 April with the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Sheffield University Management School to share the QES results and discuss the up and coming EU Referendum vote in June.
Mr Denniff said: “We have not taken a position on Europe. We will facilitate debate and have plans in place to start that process after Easter.
18
Bulletin
“It’s for members to decide, after all they are the ones who will be voting in June. This is
a major decision for the whole nation and should not be influenced by individuals who hold positions of responsibility in representative organisations like ours”. “Staying in or leaving the EU is a complex question that is often confused. For business there needs to be a clear economic assessment. What is becoming very apparent is that many businesses are seeking clarity because at the moment they just don’t know what to believe.”
EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
Launch of Buy Local Initiative to support Rotherham Businesses The Rotherham Business Growth Board has launched the Rotherham Buy Local Initiative – an exciting opportunity to improve the success of local business in winning new business opportunities. This task force brings together representative from both the private and public sector, including, The NHS Foundation Trust, RMBC and the Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce. The first phase of the Rotherham Buy Local Initiative is focusing in on the public sector spend in the Rotherham area to see how much business already goes to local business and to come up with an action plan to increase this. Rotherham Council, The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, Rotherham College and Dearne Valley College in total spend some £150 million per annum with suppliers and are all on board to see how they can benefit from local suppliers, increase the share going to local business and help the Rotherham economy. The second phase will then move on to work with major private sector organisations in the area to see how their local business spend can be increased. The task force is keen to hear the views of local business on what support, assistance and information would help them understand the business opportunities and to prepare themselves to put in winning quotes and bids. The team are working with Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber to put out a survey in the next few weeks to canvass views and ideas from local business. In the meantime the Buy Local team are moving quickly and have already put in place some ‘quick wins’ for business. Public sector bodies already publish extensive and valuable information to potential suppliers such as their supplier spend, contracts in place and business opportunities but it appears that many local businesses are not aware of this. To
help signpost this information to local business the Chamber has put in place a Buy Local web page (www.brchamber. co.uk/buy-local) which will direct suppliers to the relevant information/web pages, starting with Rotherham Council and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. This includes highlighting some of the excellent support already in place such as the Rotherham Council’s business opportunities electronic alert service and the commitment to give all unsuccessful suppliers full feedback to help them in the future.
The Buy Local team already has lots of great ideas to help local business but the key is to hear from local business on what will help them and this will direct and prioritise the work of the Buy Local team.
If you like to give your views please email either mark.hannigan@brchamber.co.uk or rachel.blake@rotherham.gov.uk

Employees ‘isolated and lost’ when it comes to talking about mental health A third of UK employees feel unsure about who to talk to or where to find help or support regarding metal health issues. In addition, nearly 40 per cent find it hard to talk to or open up to anyone about their mental health, according to new research released in February by health insurer, Westfield Health. The results from the ‘Mental Resilience’ survey also revealed that 32% of employees feel they were treated differently by their line manager after returning to work following absence related to mental ill health, and 20 per cent also felt their fellow colleagues’ attitudes towards them had changed. When asked how they were treated differently, responses included: “I felt that people were walking on egg shells around me which made me feel low and not want to speak to anyone” and “Due to the nature of my ill health colleagues were not sure how to approach me or what to say”.
Westfield Health’s Chamber Primary Health Plan is available to all members of Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce. It includes a full Employee Assistance Programme providing access to a confidential 24 hour counselling and advice line, as well as face to face counselling sessions or cognitive behavioural therapy, if recommended by the telephone counsellors. and a further 40-50 in the waste wood fuel supply chain. The final elements of the planning consents were granted in late 2014 and the £160m required to build the project was approved by the investors, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, a Danish infrastructure fund, in March 2015, allowing the project to get started. To build the plant Templeborough Biomass has contracted a consortium of Birmingham-based Interserve Construction Ltd. and Babcock & Wilcox
Vølund from Denmark. Once operational, the site will employ around 30 people and consume around 260,000 tonnes of waste wood per year, material that would otherwise be sent to landfill, decomposing to produce methane, a gas around 10 times more harmful to the atmosphere than CO2. The wood fuel will be sourced locally by Stobart Biomass Ltd., a subsidiary of the Stobart Group who part own the famous Eddie Stobart logistics company. Whilst a new addition to the area,

So, although the Templeborough team are hard at work designing and constructing the power plant, at the same time they are taking time to share knowledge, skills and enthusiasm in the local community. Tim Forrest, General Manager of the project says “Before we broke ground at the site we knew it was vital to engage with the local businesses neighbours and the community we would be working alongside. It feels only right that we do what we can to ensure our project puts something back into the local area, the Interserve team have been working with Rotherham College, raising awareness of the fulfilling careers that can be developed in the construction industry. Now the construction is well underway we are starting to welcome work experience placements on site and taking classes on tours. We have also contributed to a careers day at a local secondary school and ran an Insight Zone at the TeenTech event at Doncaster Racecourse in March, an event designed to inspire 300 students aged 12-13 from local secondary schools that a career in science, engineering and technology could be for them. Plasterboard recycling – life after waste More than ever, we are aware of the impact we are having on our environment; landfill sites are filling up fast, natural resources are depleting whilst air pollution is on the rise. However, in the case of waste plasterboard, there is another consideration that most people aren’t even aware of. Plasterboard is considered a high sulphate bearing waste. This means that when it is mixed with biodegradable waste, it gives off a toxic gas – Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S). Most people recognise this as a “Rotten egg” smell, however in higher concentration this gas is odourless – this is when it is at its most dangerous concentration levels and inhalation can be fatal. With this is mind, the landfilling of waste plasterboard has been prohibited since July 2005. For companies and individuals looking to dispose of waste plasterboard from this date, this leaves two options; Monocell landfill or a Recycling route. Monocell’s segregate difficult waste streams into individual cells, therefore removing the risk of the production of H2S gas, however they are a very expensive and unsustainable solution. Roy Hatfield Ltd was established in 1971 and predominately deals with recovery of “difficult” waste streams and the supply of bulk commodities into heavy industry. In direct response to the new enforcement on plasterboard disposal, Roy Hatfield Ltd

became the first company in the UK to develop a recycling process that turns this problematic waste into a raw material that replaces natural, mined Gypsum. However, turning a waste into a product means strict criteria must first be met. This is governed by a Quality Protocol known as PAS109. Any QP compliant plasterboard recycling process must be capable of not only effectively removing 99% of the paper backing, but also all of the inevitable contamination present, such as wall fixings, screws and tiles. Once the finished product is chemically tested to ensure it meets the standard set out in the QP, it can be considered a “product” suitable for supply into a number of industries, such as cement manufacture, absorbents and the plasterboard manufacturers themselves. The recycling plant was developed inhouse over 10 years ago. The main issues that had to be overcome were the levels of contamination present in waste plasterboard, the moisture content which made recycling difficult and the sheer volume that had to be processed in order to make the process
economically viable. The process itself starts with an automated feed hopper that keeps the input material consistent. From there it passes through three specially modified crushers, through a ferrous and nonferrous metal removal process and on onto a cyclone system that separates particles based on their density. The final process is more intricate and enables the last few remaining pieces of paper and contaminates to be removed to ensure product status is achieved. The facility is expensive to operate and runs 24/7, despite this there is still a significant saving that can be realised through this recycling route vs disposal. To date this process has removed nearly 500,000 tonnes of plasterboard waste from monocell landfill and replaced its naturally mined equivalents. However, there is still a huge amount of work to be done to develop a clearer understanding of this waste stream with the producers themselves. Proper segregation at source and an effort to further reduce contamination will help provide an even more cost effective recycling solution.

Don’t let your waste business go up in flames Waste storage presents a high fire risk and so waste operators are now required by the regulator to put in place strict fire prevention plans that are designed to protect their sites and the surrounding community. In recent years there have been a number of high profile waste fires, where combustible wastes have been poorly managed and allowed to accumulate to unacceptable levels. Unfortunately, the trend appears to be worsening as number of serious pollution incidents caused by waste fires has almost doubled between 2012 and 2014. The waste industry, fire authorities and government departments have been working to identify the root causes of waste fires which, last year, culminated in the Environment Agency (EA) issuing the guidance document ‘Fire Prevention Plans’, aimed at minimising risk to the public and the environment. The upshot is that the EA is sending a strong
message to waste operators of the high and sometimes onerous standards expected during the permitting process, and that fire prevention techniques must be incorporated into the early design of a facility. The issue of some permits has been delayed as a result, with reports of fully constructed waste facilities unable to operate pending signoff of the site’s Fire Prevention Plan (FPP). Significantly, there are potentially 8,000 existing waste sites across the UK; all of whom are also expected to meet the measures stipulated in this document. One year on, the FPP guidance document is under review and the potential impact to waste sites is that there will be tightened controls
on, for example, the maximum size of waste piles, separation of wastes, management controls and fire detection and suppression equipment. Importantly, the revised draft document places a new emphasis on using technically qualified individuals to design these protection measures, aimed creating even greater safeguards. Whilst the expectation is that there should be a reduction in waste fires, the regulatory permitting requirement has become even tougher. Waste operators will now need the services of environmental consultancies more than ever to help reduce this burden and to ensure they are able to operate safely and within the legal requirements.

Fire safety can sometimes be a matter of life or death. Is your business prepared for the unexpected? At a time of continued economic challenge, it is more important than ever to ensure your business is in the best possible shape - and that includes preparing for an unexpected, catastrophic event like a fire. Recognition for businesses
In response to this Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce are doing what they do best; lending support to local public services, businesses and organisations which all play an important part in the Sheffield City Region. The Chamber has developed the Business Fire Safety South Yorkshire project to raise fire safety awareness amongst local businesses to reinforce the many positive activities that are happening at South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue’ explains Adrian Platts, Coordinator for the project. It is a free initiative delivered in partnership with South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, and funded through the Stronger Safer Communities Reserve by South Yorkshire Fire Authority. Our mantra is “Don’t risk a life or your business” and we mean every word. We support businesses to develop a fire safety culture that is responsive, measured and above all supports employee welfare and business continuity. The project was launched in September 2015 and has to date supported a range of businesses in South Yorkshire with fire safety guidance, tools and support.
How it supports businesses The project engages with businesses of any size and type, and promotes the fire safety message across the area. As part of the toolkit, businesses receive a free fire safety folder with all the relevant templates to manage fire safety. It even comes with a free emergency torch too.
S O U T H
Y O R K S H I R E
Businesses can get direct support through either a site visit or attending a masterclass to gear up with the knowledge needed to effectively manage fire safety at their premises. All of the information directly supports the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which is a legal requirement for businesses to meet in regards to fire safety at a place of business.
Expanding awareness with the fire safety app As part of the initiative, technology has also been used to engage workplaces by providing a Business Fire Safety app that serves not only the management teams, but front line staff also. The idea behind the concept is to continually maintain staff awareness through a weekly notification system that reminds them of basic fire safety considerations. It’s all about staff being made aware of fire safety more often and alleviates some of the pressure for managers to remember fire safety issues all of the time.
For those businesses that have their fire safety management systems organised and in place already, they can also benefit as part of the project. An accreditation scheme is provided that recognises those businesses who are up to speed with fire safety, and more importantly it is acknowledged by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. Providing business meet some straightforward criteria, they can achieve accreditation in a relatively simple process.
Who is eligible? All businesses that pay their rates to either Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham or Sheffield local authorities are eligible for support so if you’d like to find out a bit more about the project, please give us a call or visit our web page. Did we already mention that support is provided for free? We did. And it helps you stay on the right side of the law. The real question is… What has your business got to lose?

College merger will benefit businesses Rotherham College (of Arts and Technology, known in the past as ‘RCAT’) and North Notts College, based in Worksop, completed a merger on 1st February 2016 to create a new organisation called the RNN Group (Rotherham and North Notts Group), which will have a turnover in excess of £45m in 2015/16. It will retain its existing campuses at Rotherham Town Centre, Dinnington and Worksop, and their current brands. The Group say a major focus for the merger is to create an organisation with the scale to increase its responsiveness and offer to employers. This need has been heightened by the upcoming apprenticeship levy on employers, and the recognised need to fill skills gaps and increase higher level skills training. RNN Group Chief Executive, John Connolly, said: “Business success and economic growth are vital to our region. RNN Group will play a key role supporting employers through providing apprenticeships, higher-level skills and training solutions, enabling local people and our regional workforce to develop into the roles organisations need to succeed.” Already one of the largest providers of apprenticeships in the area, one of the first steps the organisation has taken is to pool the employer-facing sales and liaison staff from both colleges into a central team operating under the banner of ‘RNN Training’. RNN Deputy Principal, Phil Sayles said: “RNN Training has been created as a clear point of contact for employers who need bespoke or accredited training in their business, or who want to create apprenticeships. We want to be the first name employers in our area think of for these services. A major benefit we can offer is that we have up to 5,000 students in our two colleges. Most of these students want to move into careers and will have already benefited from our excellent practical training in our realistic work environments, and exposure to the disciplines and

expectations of work, by the time we carefully match them with employers’ vacancies.” The RNN Group will also help employers through providing additional higher skill and higher education courses, adding to the thousand-plus enrolments at level 4 or above the organisation already has. The Group is also at the point of investing in a new higher education and skills centre on Doncaster Gate in Rotherham, a move supported by over 200 businesses, the local council and other bodies. The RNN Group also comprises a number of separate limited companies:
Create Skills operates from a base in Manvers, Rotherham, offering apprenticeships, bespoke and accredited training in the education, business support, health and safety and management sectors. The National Fluid Power Centre (NFPC) delivers high-end training in the fields of pneumatics, hydraulics and controls to over 300 companies in the UK and abroad. Charnwood Training has its head office in Mansfield and delivers apprenticeships and bespoke training in the hospitality and licensed sectors across the UK. Chief Executive, John Connolly, concludes: “Our merged organisation will give us greater resilience, greater scope to invest and provide the training and courses employers and individuals need, taught by our experts in industry-level facilities in our colleges or on employers’ premises. We hope we can have greater influence for the benefit of our local areas and businesses.”

Rotherham entrepreneur to launch fraud prevention system A ground-breaking fraud prevention system developed by Rotherham entrepreneur, Jason Mace, is set to launch this year, with primary trials planned for South Yorkshire. The Secure Order Transfer System (SOTpay) was designed to eliminate fraudulent transactions after Gala Tent Ltd fell victim to one of 48.7 million annual cases of fraud in the UK. SOTpay is a fully PCI DSS compliant system which allows businesses to safely and securely take card payments over the telephone, without the risk of incurring fines of up to £50,000 for non-compliance. The revolutionary system is now ready for business use, with trials running throughout South Yorkshire. Business owners from around the region have been invited to take part in a free trial, with a full national roll out expected to follow soon thereafter.
By connecting customers who are trying to make a telephone payment with a secure online transaction platform, the SOTpay system has eliminated 100% of Gala Tent’s fraudulent telephone transactions. This level of fraud prevention is the result of rigorous card and customer detail checks, which aren’t currently possible with normal telephone payments. Richard Jownally, Fraud Investigator at HSBC said, “In essence, if you want delivery to an alternative address when undertaking a MOTO query, it forces the customer and thereby deters the fraudster, to go online to undertake a 3D Secure transaction where the merchant will obtain liability shift. I wish it were my idea!”

Exciting developments in Better Barnsley scheme Things are moving on apace with the exciting Better Barnsley plans. Kendray Street bridge and the iconic Central Offices have been demolished, changing the skyline of the town centre. The main contractor has been appointed to deliver the ambitious project and construction of May Day Green Market, (which will open this summer to rehouse the semi open market traders) began in March. Concept design work has also begun on the public realm. This will include designing a new landscaped public square where the main routes into town meet. It will be large enough for market stalls and public events, with a new entrance to the refurbished indoor market.
Public Square
Cinema & Boulevard
Work on the demolition of the existing multi-storey car park that sits above the semi-covered market will begin in the summer. This requires the relocation of the market while the demolition works and subsequent construction and refurbishment works are completed. The May Day Green market will be made from lightweight metal frame that provides a large open interior that will allow for a variety of stall types and sizes. It will also house a cafĂŠ and public toilets. The primary entrance will be on May Day Green, with another prominent entrance on Kendray Street. The stalls are fully allocated to traders and we even have a waiting list. Detailed design reports on the library and Metropolitan Centre were submitted from IBI Group to the council in March, followed by reserved matters planning applications for the library and Metropolitan Centre. The reserved matters applications will include all the detailed aspects of the individual building designs which were not included in the original outline planning application. Later in the year, works will start on the asbestos removal and soft strip for some of the retail units required for demolition and refurbishment will take place on the May Day Green block and the Poundland store at the side of the Metropolitan Centre.

Barnsley manufacturer moves into larger premises and expands A specialist Barnsley manufacturer is moving in to larger premises to ramp up production and extend its product range. Adomast, which supplies chemical products to the UK construction industry, has moved into a 24,000 sw ft building on Carlton Industrial Estate, Barnsley. Its new home is more than twice the size of its previous building in nearby Shafton.
Adomast’s expansion will enable the company to increase production, extend the range of products it offers existing customers; and launch a new line of products aimed at new buyers in the trade and DIY market.
A £100,000 investment in new equipment, including an additional 50 litre storage tank, specialist mixing tanks and a semiautomated filling and dispensing line, has accompanied the move.
The move follows a year of growth for Adomast which saw sales increase by 45 per cent to £1.25 million in 2015. Managing director Denise Wolstenholme, who took up her post in 2012, said: “Now
is the perfect time to invest in growth at Adomast. The company has an established reputation as a supplier to the construction industry and we made a huge effort to develop our relationships with UK customers and distributors in order to achieve our increase in sales last year. “We were delighted with this fantastic growth in our core business, but didn’t want to stop there, hence our decision to explore a whole new market for our products in 2016.”

The Year of Video Marketing Content marketing is becoming increasingly visual, this lead to 2015 being a busy year in video marketing. In July, YouTube announced that 400 hours of video were being uploaded to the site every minute. right into their story. By doing this, they will be engaging with their audience on a more personal level, leaving a lasting impression and gaining mass attention. Video marketing is no longer synonymous with just YouTube. More and more companies are starting to see and take advantage of the many benefits that come with integrating short length videos into their social media marketing. The growing success of Vine and Snapchat, as well as the success Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have leveraged over the past year, prove video marketing, and especially social video, is key to gaining consumer attention in 2016.
In November, Facebook announced that they are generating 8 billion video views a day. This may be last year’s news, but it opened the doors for video to dominate marketing strategies throughout 2016. Some 96% of B2B marketers are now using video, and for good reason. Video is now key for engaging audiences and capturing their attention in a crowded market. It enriches the customer’s buying experience at all stages and is more effective than any other content at converting viewers into buyers. Throughout this year, marketers will use the skills they learned in 2015 and utilize them to expand to new applications, creating improved content experiences and telling more impactful stories. The play button has become the most compelling call to action on the web. Marketers are now finding that video is a
great tool to help convert sales. With 74% of businesses reporting that video content outperformed other content types and 4 times as many consumers choosing to watch a video rather than read about a topic, video marketing is a tactic you shouldn’t be ignoring. Video is more than something we can sit back and watch. Marketers are beginning to and will continue to leverage interactivity, new 360 videos and choose-your-ownadventure-style videos boost engagement and conversion with buyers.
